OK Google mod suggestion - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Found this in N6 thread. Someone found way to make OK Google active at all time (eg screen off). Figured I'd drop here in case there are any interested devs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2963716

No offense but our phones have had this since day one. It's a standard feature.

Yeaaaa you kinda just have to open Google search settings under voice and enable "ok Google" detection. Yeeeaaa
ROLL THAT SHT, LIGHT THAT SHT. SMOKKKKE THAT SHT

On my phone (stock) OK Google "always on" is not is not an available option. And apparently it's not an standard feature for AOSP roms on N6 either.

Did you notice how the always on option is greyed out?
... what this mod does is allow ok Google to be used on ANY screen; that included the ok Google search screen, any app screen, screen off, etc

I believe if it is grey out you need to disable s voice first.

a backlight widget that works?

Morning, all!
Just a quick one. Has anyone found a back light widget that actually works on the Hero? Everyone I've tried get over ridden by the Os. (I've got auto-backlight off in settings, but still no joy. ) I could really do with one for when I'm using Copilot. I've got 'toggle settings' which is handy but no joy with the backlight.
Cheers
OP.
YES!!
look in the market for an app called "KEEPSCREEN"
works like a treat. i use it to stop the screen going off while in a call and while using co pilot.
Vis-a-vis Copilot, have you tried setting the backlight to "Always On" in the application itself? Works for me!
Regards,
Dave

Don't mean to be a Nazi, but I suppose you meant 'A propos'?
No, I meant vis-a-vis!
I use something called Screebl that keeps your backlight on, unless you lie your phone flat.
It can also save your battery if you set screen time out to a short time. Screen stays on while you hold the phone. Screen switches off quickly when phone is put down.
grr, double post.
Thanks for those suggestions. I've got and use keep screen and set the backlight in copilot to stay on. But I've just realised I didn't make myself clear, sorry. in the words of the spice girls, what I want, what I really really want is to toggle the screen brightness to full quickly via a widget before I go into copilot or google maps etc.
Thanks again!

[Q] Any alternate to LED notification??

I tried NoLED from the app market but I can't get it to work on the Fascinate. Does anyone have any ideas or know of any apps to get either recurring visual or audio notifications?

bln are built into all of our kernels these days
I've used NoLed since I purchased my phone in Sept with no problem. In fact, the wife and I both use it. Uninstall and reinstall and see if that works. Also, you should add the NoLed widget to your home screen and then tap it, colored dots should appear inside the box. At that point it's activated. If you reboot your phone I believe it does it for you.

NoLED was a great option prior to the popularity of "BackLight Notification" or BLN.
If you have a compatible kernel, I think it's a better way to go. It doesn't differentiate between different "kinds" of messages like NoLED does, but it's cleaner, and doesn't use the LED screen at all, potentially saving battery and protecting your screen from potential burnin/out.

I never could get that app to work right on the Fasc. It used to be the bees knees, till people started realizing that the lights never turn off until the message has been cleared. In other words, the 10 sec, 15, 30 second versions all stay on till the notification is cleared, despite supposedly having a timer. Newer versions of the BLN app have come and gone, yet I have heard nothing positive about them in the Fasc forum.

BLN does not have a timer unless it is set on blink mode, and there are no working kernels with BLN 2.3, which is required for blinking for the Fascinate. The "timer" you are likely referring to is probably for the timeout for the buttons when the screen is on. Since DJ05/DL09, the buttons stay lit as long as the screen is on.
To control the blinking rate, use "blinky" from market
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Blinky 2.3 (download zip from thread, flash in Clockwork) works on the Fascinate. Blinky 2.4 (Market version, no flashing) works to turn BLN on/off, but doesn't actualy blink stuff.
Try sms popup, works like the handcent pop up, but works for the stock messaging app which is what i use
so fresh and so superclean.

Really? Do you recall the release of BLN? Now it appears the developer has added internal settings. However, the releases in October-November could be downloaded via XDA and came in .zip format with an option in increments of 5-10 seconds up to 30 seconds. Despite the option, the light never turned off until the notification was cleared, even with a supportive kernel, resulting in rapid battery drain in my case. This was a turn off for me and I have not reviewed the product since. Now it appears that the lights blink instead of constantly glowing. I will have to check out the newer version.
didn't know of these apps til i read this thread. thanx everyone.

[Q] Gingerbread update-Trackball Notification Light not working on non-google apps

Anyone else having trouble with their trackball light not working on non-google apps?
non google apps? as in some 3rd party chat client or something?
if so then it depends on the app if it features the trackball light..
Sent from my Nexus One
i'm not getting the notification sound for emails, either?
edit: relating to the thread topic, trackball light for sms popup isn't going off like it was with froyo. unrooted stock here.
eric b
Well it would be like for chompSMS or SMS Popup, it just wouldn't work.
Same with me, i think Google disabled the trackball light in 2.3.
More likely that the app devs just need to update their apps to work better with GB.
Mine seems to have stopped working altogether.
ya.. now mine is gone too..
edit: I just reinstalled sms popup.. and now everything works just like it was..
idk what's happening.!

I agree, I think the developers of certains apps just haven't updated to gingerbread yet, including Blink.
I've also noticed the flashlight widgets/apps don't work now either
Edit: oh, I'm also stock. Will this finally be the thing that forces me to root? Nah, I'm too big of a wuss (and lazy
Found a solution. Look for "Light Flow" in the Market, works like a charm.
I d/l the free app and it covers a lot, the paid app ($1 ish) allows even more (social apps, etc.).

The "Torch" flashlight widget works fine for me.
Been using Light Flow app for a week for trackball alerts with no issues, but you want the latest market version for GB.

Same.
The LED would blink on boot so I knew it wasn't the LED.
I restored and now my notifications blink repeatedly only if the screen is off. Once I turn my screen on (doesn't matter is I unlock the phone or not, dismiss the notification or not- literally just turn the screen on) the notification LED stops blinking. If my phone screen was on when I get the notification, the LED doesn't blink at all...
Ideas? Solutions?

Edge Lighting with Android Messages App

Hello,
Has anyone figured out how to get Edge Lighting and the bubble notification at the top to work with the Android Messages app? It worked fine with the stock Samsung Messages app, but I cannot get it to work with the Android messages app. I changed the setting within Edge Lighting to be enabled and have the Android Messages notification set to urgent, but still no luck.
Appreciate any help!
Thanks
From my experience not all the apps are edge lighting compatible, including gmail, youtube and many other applications... I can not tell you why but I think it has to do with how each app send notifications.
Maybe smarter people can give you more technical explanations ?
Works fine for me, although I use textra as my messaging app. I have Google messages and occasionally switch back to it, but wanted to test it for you
I can't upload a photo now for some reason

Thanks for your reply. I just tried some tests and it seems that the edge lighting works when my screen is on and I receive a text. But it does not work when my "Always On Display" is on. Do you notice that as well?
I have the Verizon version and also use Textra as my SMS app. I just sent a text from the wife's Note 9 and with mine on the AOD, I saw the small popup at the top and she lighting lit up. I tried to grab a screenshot, but apparently doesn't work on AOD.

Thank you both for the feedback. I have the setting set to Always (aka both with Screen On or Off) but it does not work with the screen off (AOD).

I am having the same issue. Didn't work when screen is off. With or without AOD, it doesn't work at all. Only on screen on I see it no problem.

Camera app problem

Hey,
Every time when I open the camera app this screen appears.
In save mode this doesn't happen.
I can't found a app called talkback.
The message is:
"Turn on Voice control?
To enchance Talkback in Camera, Voice Control will be enabled.
Cancel Turn On"

In the camera settings under shooting methods is voice control on or off.
Voice control is off. When I turn it on the message don't appear. But I don't need voice control
I have the same problem. Every time I open the camera this notification appears to turn on voice control. It's frustrating
Have the same issue. Just updated my S10+ to Android 10 this morning. Met my friend and she also updated today and has the same issue on her phone.
Talked with Samsung support and they have no idea. After a bit of back and forth I convinced them to escalate.
This should be the Ref # for this specific escalation: 2222899743
Please contact their support to submit examples.
As for now I'm just going to use Tasker to dismiss that notice every time I open Camera.
Samsung said to me I have to hard reset my phone this is no option
Also have this issue, S10e. Don't use voice control for anything so it's all switched off. Only appeared with the Android 10 update as well.
Same problem here. Galaxy S10. Happend after upgrading from OneUI 1 to 2.
Same problem here as well, S10e. Just got the phone so don't know if it is caused by the upgrade or not. Fact is that I managed to disable most of the Bixby and other samsung apps - but this pop keeps coming up. I have tried Gcam, but that one crashes quite often.

Thanks for doing this! This is probably a really dumb question, but how do I even contact them to report the issue? I am also having the same problem and this forum is the only place I've seen anything about it.
Hello All,
I discovered the prompt to turn on TalkBack stopped after I disabled an app I was using called Holey Light. Holey Light needed extra permissions so it could give me a notification light around the front camera. Don't know why, but after turning it off via the Accessibility > Installed Services setting, the prompt stopped happening.

Interesting, I also have Holey Light. I disabled it and the pop-up in the camera disappeared, but I quite like Holey Light so that's a bit of a pain. HL also seemed to need to change the Text-to-Speech language from English (UK) to English (US), although I'm not sure that is necessarily relevant.
Anyway, looks like maybe you've found the cause, nice one :good: . Hopefully Chainfire might be able to work out if it's anything he can fix.

Good to know. I'll see if I can reach out to this Chainfire fella and let him know. I'm from the US, so my language was already set to English (US). Like you say, maybe not relevant but another similarity in our settings anyhow. :highfive:

Accessibility Service could be the Cause
Go to Settings -> Accessibility-> Installed Services, and turn off Installed services one at a time. Check if the prompt disappears. For me, it was the "Select to speak" service that caused it. Other folks found Holey Light to be the cause.

Great find, I was scratching my head trying to figure out what was causing this. I use Holey Light although it does not work all the time, its better than nothing having one. Guess ill have to concede to samsung listening
Try aodNotify.
I had this problem as well, was good to find these posts. It looks to be solved in the latest update of Holey Light
Yes, not sure if it was a HL update (don't recall one) or the February security update (more likely), but I was able to turn the Voice Activation off on my camera and the pop-up hasn't come back.
