If su is still there (/system/bin/su or /system/xbin/su), all you need is SuperSU, which you can install from the Play store. (Without an "su-ish" app, apps can't get root, even though su is installed.) If su isn't still there you'll have to root again.

No, if SuperSU is still there and you don't get root, the su binry is evidently missing. That mans that you have to root all over again. (You need to be rooted to install the su binary, which you aren't, so ... which is why rooting uses an exploit [a different one in each line of phones] to get temporary root so it can install su to get permanent root.)

i have tried with odin but it keeps failing should i use the kingo root insted ?
at this stage what would be the best way to re-root
thanks in advance
Are you following these instructions? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559715
Everyone else seems to report that this method for getting root works.
Kingo root works (though some people don't like Kingo)
Also - always freeze OTA update app after you root, otherwise you'll lose root with every OTA update.
If you're expecting an OTA update, you can unfreeze the app, then use SuperSU survival mode, then let it update, and then turn off survival mode to get root back. But ofc it's too late for that now in your case.

Kingo is fine. The Heimdall and Odin one is a pain in the but and risky. Mostly for restoring. I used kingo and its just fine. If you mess up then you can go to that other link and restore with or without root.

I have had my phone rooted for a while (Galaxy S5), but after the 4.4.2 update, i lost root access, like supersu tells me that i dont have root access. Other apps like the isis wallet are telling me that i have root and cannot get into it. I have tried factoring reseting and then i used the backup from the phone itself. i would rather not have root at all than be resticted without the root. Can anyone help me unroot my phone officially so i can use isis wallet or other apps.

There is also an Xposed module to hide root from designated apps, which lets you have your cake and eat it AND tell Samsung you didn't
Hi I'm randomly getting unauthorized att software found on this device take to nearest att store. I have to restore my phone. I have rooted using towel root. Is there a way to stop this? I was keeping the towel root app on my phone, but now I deleted it after I installed it. Thank you

That's probably from your phone trying to download the OTA update to 4.4.4...freeze AT&T Software Update with Titanium Backup and it'll go away.
Hey everyone. I am not new at rooting phones but this appears to be the one phone that is giving me issues.
My note 4 is telus, was n910w
installed this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/development/rom-vision-x-n4-intl-t2943448
working beautifully thus far but I cant seem to root....
I have tripped KNOX 5 times so far trying to do it, each time it appears my phone is not rooted as titanium cannot verify SU, and aswell I have a root checker which tells me it is not rooted.
I have tried several versions of ODIN, and cf auto root n910t, AND V.
Do I maybe have to reinstall my rom? Or is there something I am missing because this is frustrating me....
Is there something I am doing wrong? Superuser IS on my phone, but its not doing anything but being there.... Please any kind of help would be appreciated as I am stumped.
I'm not sure what rom you are running but I do know there were some issues with su and lollipop in the beginning that required you to go into superuser app setting 's and change from prompt for root to allow all requests. For some reason it wouldn't prompt for root for root apps. But if you changed it it would auto.atically allow root apps root access

This worked, I am a dummy lol
Thanks alot!
Glad I could help
Glad you got it worked out but note that you can only ever trip Knox once. Once it's tripped it's tripped, so don't worry about it.

I had lost root after flashing the PopRocks ROM. Couldn't figure it out and stumbled across this post. Now it works perfectly. Thanks! :good:
Hi Guys, I know a lot of people here on xda cannot go on their daily lives without root on their phone, but there are these pain in the bottom applications that refuse to run when root is detected. my only means of hiding root back then was using an xposed module, may I know if someone else have an idea on how to hide root from apps? thanks in advance!~
SuperSU Pro has the option that works for some apps. Not sure if it is in the standard version.
Best solution is to boycott HBO.
root cloak still works with 5.1.1. you can find it here in the forums. get the latest alpha version and it should work.
