Is there anyone playing Temple Run without lags on the Nexus one? If so, can you please tell me your ROM + kernel and specs. Thanks.
I'm running KANG CM7 Nightly, with Tiamat GB kernel...and i overclock it to 1228/460, with LAGFREE Governer... but i still experience lag. On the other hand, my HTC Desire Z is all stock, and it runs without any problems?
If anyone knows a solution, please post it here as it will help me and many others. Thank you
I think its due to the graphic card not enough powerfull

I experience lag in both GB and ICS. I think it's a GPU limitation. It just get worse as the game gather speed.
Lag spikes (a second or two) on hummingbird which supposedly has higher clocked CPU and a graphics chip that is 2 times more powerful than the icrap 4.
The game is just badly optimised for android, needs a bloody dual core to run lag free ... while my friend with iPod touch 2g w/412MHz CPU & super slow PowerVR MBX Lite doesn't experience that kind of lag.
Since i noticed lags in games i tried to figure out whats wrong with my phone, and finally found app named Quick System Info PRO (its free) and there is an option "live monitor" which shows cpu freq and usage per every core in on screen widget, which is staint over most content on screen including games. I've played some titles like GTA3, NFS most wanted, shadowgun etc. and every single game uses ony one core scaling usualy between 1000-1500 MHz with approx. 70-100% usage. I've tried same thing on my nexus 7 (android 4.2.2) and everything runs very fast and it uses 2-3 cores scaled around 600-1000 MHz with 20-40% usage.
There is no problem in chrome, antutu they're using more cores, this happens only in games (every title I've played have the same issue even THD titles)
so whats the matter? is it ICS fault? Do you have the same issue? is there any way to fix it or will JB updade fix it?
I'm using stock LG-P880-V10h-NOV-19-2012 firmware, phone is rooted.
I've noticed exactly the same thing as you, I've checked with the "hidden code" to check for core speeds
really strange i wish someone to fix this bug is really disappointed quad core 1gb ram tegra 3 and lag all games
+ tegra games.... lets think possitive...
Is there any way to fix it? hope JB will solve everything
Something I saw in the one x forum which I will try when I get home is limiting the max frequency to 1ghz, as it won't use all 4 cores any higher than this because of overheat. More likely the cause is bad optimization

Yes, what you say is somewhat true. When the core of the phone hits 40 degrees celsius, it clocks at a lower speed and that's when you see the "slow charging" even though you plug it in a wall socket.

What I read was 1500mhz: 1 core, 1100-1400: 2 to 3 cores and >1000mhz: 4 cores. I know of the temperature setting also. Tested this with NFS MW, I noticed no improvements but neither did it perform any worse which is interesting for a game that's not the smoothest

Just like normal computers, if a piece of software is not designed to use multi threading.. then it will only use one cpu.

Yep its mostly devs fault, however they should be using it anyway because they are compatible with galaxy s3? Could it be possible to hack it so it uses the s3 configuration and achieve multiple for usage, or is it impossible across different chipsets? I don't get it, I've seen that most games we complain about do not have these issues on the HTC one x
Sent from my LG-P880
You can modify build.prop to look like that of a galaxy s3 (edit model, manufacturer etc..), might trigger it, but that might create problems with other apps (including play store)
I think it's just bad programming since there are functions in android java that will allow you to get the number of cores, so then.. you can enable multi threading... not sure why they would use device detection or whatever.. I mean if a device got 4 cpus, it got 4 cpus! doesnt have to be a bloody s3
I think it's ICS 4.0.3 fault, like I said before everything runs smooth on Nexus 7 which have 4.2.2 and notice that one X already have 4.1.2.
Suprising fact I've found on polish wikipedia is improvements list of 4.1.2 and line that says:
"optymalizacja wydajności w grach dla procesorów NVidia Tegra 3 i kart graficznych NVidia GeForce ULP"
which means: "In-game performance optimalisation for NVidia Tegra 3 proccessors and NVidia GeForce ULP graphics cards"
Hope thats true

Well like you say they run fine on other hardware, HD games must have multi threading support for these and the galaxy s3, so the question is why aren't they using it for ours? Must be the software, even forcing all cores online does nothing to help.

If it uses handset detection, and detects HOX and it ticks it as supported, then its going to work because it will activate multithreading.. but probably it doesnt detect the lg 4x as supported... because IMO, it uses the wrong detection (device based) to determine mutithreading.

Its not exactly our phones fault that most games using 1 core, in-fact almost all apps runs using 1 core they are not yet optimized to use multi-core,in our case its little developers fault and little ICS fault.
Also I am still confused why you people complain about lags? This device is very smooth and I play HD games on my (50 inch full HD) TV with my PS3 bluetooth controller(specially bought for gaming on 4X) and it runs just fine. I play Shadow Gun deadzone online with no lags(even with tiny lag - single frame skip means I am dead)...etc NFS MW runs fine too rarely it runs little slow in first few seconds of race but later it becomes fine.
I had issues with heat and battery drain problem to overcome this I have underclock my device to 4cores 1.2ghz (Governor - onthedemand) and even after underclocking it runs all my games fine. I have read (never tested) for gaming governor - Performance is i deal but battery drains faster.
However similar complains were there in HTC OneX as well until it gets updated to JB.
So I assume this issue should get resolved with JB update.

The worst games are nova 3 and amazing spiderman, if you can figure how to make them run smooth I'll be happy, most others are playable on my phone

Update: If gaming is your top priority I recommend downgrading to v10d until.this jb update comes, I haven't checked of all cores were used but most wanted was much smoother, also phone got very hot! Tried amazing Spiderman which was unplayable, its still quite slow but is possible to play, going to test nova 3 next

Hello:
I would like to know if there is a way to overclock the nook hd to 1.5gigahertz. Nook HD and HD+ have the same TI OMAP 4470 processor. Is the Nook HD's processor possible to overclock. If so, can I install HD+ SDCard CM10 on HD or swap out the kernels or something
Thanks

I think if you have root, there are a few apps that can adjust the CPU frequency--currently no kernel support yet.
But heat could be a concern...
The Nook HD+ already gets quite warm when playing videos. More heat may lead to shortened life of the device.
Of course you lose warranty if you do the above..... Why do you want to overclock the Nook?
Is there an app running particularly slow? or web browsing is too slow?
If it's web browsing, putting CM10.1 on emmc should help. CM10.1 on SD card could make it slower depending on your SD card.

It may be the SD Card, but also i read that OMAP 4470 can be clocked to 1.8ghz. I have an old phone with a 1.0 ghz processor, i overclocked it to 1.7. I just need some speed on my nook, because it is capable of being overclocked
Thanks
I want overclock kernel too, but I can't find the cpufreq table under kernel source /arch/arm/mach-omap2 (stock rom)
I'm also curious as to why there's no overclock option yet. I know on my Touchpad, overclocking from 1.5GHz to 1.7GHz makes a huge difference in overall responsiveness. I'd be willing to give up a little battery life for the additional smoothness.
I tried CM11 nightlys recently and i was impressed with the performence, especially with PPSSPP running much better and with constantly high FPS and speed. Also in GTA San Andreas i was able to run it with much higher visuals while still playing smooth.
However what bothers me about CM is the terrible speaker quality, just exceptable battary life and over all i prefer Sense UI.
So yesterday i flashed the updated version of maximus HD (wich is the best stock rom in my opinion) and yeah, its awesome, i love the UI, normal UI performence and bettary life is great and also the speaker sounds much better. Gaming is not bad, for most games that are not that intensive performence is more then good enough but as soon as it comes to PPSSPP and San Andreas its just not as smooth. I tried to gain better gaming performence by flashing elementalX kernel and clocked the CPU to 1.8 ghz and the GPU to 450 mhz. (I never overclocked anythingh with CM)
And yeah the performence is a tiny bit better but nothing compared to CM.
Why is that the case and and is there any way to either bring gaming performence on stock to a CM level or bring at least improove the speaker quality on CM?
Also can anyone report how google edition 4.4 performs? I never tried is becouse i am still S-ON.
Please share your thoughts
Gaming on GE is way bttr than on sense atleast for me.i had never seen a lag in games like san andreas ,asphalt 8 even in high graphics.
P.s:- why dnt try viper4android for better sound in cm...

Ok so I've tried almost every rom there is for the Nook HD+ even some weird Pacman rom. But reciently I decided to try out the stock rom seeing I bought mine already rooted. Its crazy but it seems faster! I was locked in a crazy boot cycle the other day with a newer rom and just decided to install stock as I had it there on my external sd card. I updated it to version 2.2.0 even tho last time I tried it, it failed (Its ment to) and everything just seems smoother. Although its has now been unrooted
I guess the only trouble I will run into is that it doesn't have trim support? I can probably see it slowing down in about 3 weeks.. How is everyone elses experience with the stock rom been?
Maybe it is just your nook that run stock better. Mine two nook and lots of others are running CM like a charm.
At least for mine nook , CM 10.2 just blow stock rom out of water and back in and out again. Smoother , faster, more customisable, better battery life...
Many say also say CM 11 kick ass as well.
I think stock runs faster, too. At first, with a fresh install. After installing my 150 or so apps it gets as slow as anything else if not slower, plus there is no TRIM support. I prefer CM11; it's pretty impressive in both speed and performance, and it's hard for me to give up the many customizations available and built-in root access.

hmmmm i was just pondering , how much faster cm11 will be compared with stock rom , just bought a HD+ , browsing is a bit sluggish and choppy when zooming in and out , using a fairly low level browser called Boat browser , i use the same browser on my Samsung Note 3 and its spot on nice and fast........i was hoping CM11 when i install it tomorrow would make quite a lot of difference .....seems as if it might not be based on the messages above !!!

Which is your favourite version of kitkat for the nook hd+?
Antutu results are about 10% better with 10.1 or 10.2 vs stock on my HD. Didn't spend enough time with the stock ROM to tell if there was a noticeable performance difference.

Maybe OP 's nook is different then most of ours . Stock rom has its magic on his nook.
But for those who is really looking for a more responsive rom, I strongly recommend giving cm a try.
My nook is on cm 10.2. It usually last 1 week for me on a charge and I do quite some reading and watching movies.

I had the stock ROM with some the mods such as rooted and install unknown apps. I was happy with it but once I tried cm10.1 yellow kernel or the cm10.2 with the archdroid optimizations, I will never go back. I would recommend cm10.2 with the archdroid optimizations unless over clocking is important to you. If OC is important check out the yellow kernel ROM.

I used to use Boat, too, but now I use Javelin. I recommend you check it out. Also make sure you run trim after you get everything installed and set up; it could make a difference.
I think on the HD+ there's something wrong with the video driver. Because I agree as well that with CM11 (any version M or nightly) the OS seems more responsive but video transitions and anything involving the screen updates is a dog. Try playing games like PvZ or some others with specific types of video needs and it's just a wreck. I made a video to highlight my Nook HD+ vs Kindle Fire (first generation slow as dirt) with the KF boot screen making the HD+ cry. You can see when I page back left after paging right the HD+ stutters trying to load the mostly empty page too.

Nook HD+ has a 1920x1280 LCD. That's a lot of pixels to render and it is a bit too much for the TI OMAP 4470 to bear it seems. Most high performance computers don't even render that many pixels.

The Kindle Fire HD 8.9" uses the same CPU/GPU and it doesn't have issues doing the same tasks. As the OP stated too the stock rom handles the load better too. I really believe we have a driver or memory management issue.

Could be. Jon Lee of the Yellow Kernel thread has done some changes to the PowerVR and Vivante GPU drivers but it hasn't really changed much as far as I can tell.
He also suggested using the "Force GPU rendering" setting in developer options but that has some caveats. It forces apps that aren't configured to use GPU rendering to do so, but forcing things doesn't always work out as you'd like. Some apps use the GPU(s) already.
We have smart people working on the kernels here and if whatever causes the graphics lag was obvious/addressable it would probably be gone. I am positive that resolution is part of the problem. I've used lower end OMAP4 devices like Nook Tablet with 1024x600 and they were much smoother.

Games aren't a really good way of deciding what's happening.
They can have different quality settings that there's generally no menu for, so its automatic picking for quality. Historically at least, Real Racing 3 would pick it wrongly and thus the game would have bad framerate on the nook hd+ needing use of a 3rd party app to force the game to lower graphics quality.

I typically agree with this statement but if you view the video I posted in my other thread about this topic it's clearly apparent that an old as dirt, 1 GHz, 512mb, very first generation Android tablet running the exact same OS release smacked the crap out of the HD+. The Nook HD+ as is, is an embarrassing device running the non-default OS. The point of this is to ensure someone is aware of this and to see if anything can be done about it.
I haven't tried an emmc install of cm, only dual boot Jelly Bean and KitKat sd cards. But they break some of my regularly used apps, hence no emmc install.
But what I haave found is replacing the stock launcher with Holo launcher really speeds up stock. And Swapps task switcher lets you access recent apps. I'm not sure how it compares to an internal install of cm though, but I'm happy enough with performance.
In reading the commits for my Note II I noticed some new commits for the HD+ that haven't been closed yet. It looks like they're enabling a 128 MB swap partition for this device.
