*alarm* wakelocks have been reeking having on two of the ROMs that I run. One ROM has a wakelock blocker and it's been suggested to disable *alarm* wakelock, but no one actually knows what it is. Blisspop and Terminus. Unfortunately, neither Google or XDA search recognizes * symbols, so I cannot find an answer at all, results about every kind of alarm imaginable. It's mainly Google Play Services, Android System, Calendar, cLock and occasionally Textra that do this. Any info would be appreciated as I am not really sure where to ask as no one in either ROM seems to know what is going on, no one else on Terminus has reported the issue but on BlissPop others have.
Are you referring to the wakelocks such as the ones in attachment? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57881548&postcount=22

I absolutely am. I am unsure what the difference between the first (partial wakelock *alarms) and second (alarms) even is, let alone why i am getting such huge wakelocks

Well in those attachments, it was caused by Light Flow. You can see the time is the same. Its for sure one of your apps causing your phone to have those wakelocks. Although light flow doesn't do it very often and it was the first time it ever appeared to cause such long wakelocks.

Yes it is usually all for the same time like that. I was using Lightflow but I uninstalled because I thought it was the cause of this. Do you happen to know what would happen if I blocked *alarm* in Terminus wakelock blocker?

I have no idea, you can try it and see what happens. I went over to SimpleAOSP because I was bored of staying on the same ROM
Noticed that Terminus didn't have longpress status bar to change brightness and ad blockers weren't really working for me.

How are the features on SImple? I'm so tired of setting up due to this alarm issue I don't even feel like exploring the moment lol. Did Lightflow uninstall fix your alarms entirely?

Features on SimpleAOSP has everything Terminus have with some things removed the things on top of my head are (Wakeblock Blocker, Ad Blocker) but has long press status bar to change.
The feature that I miss the most is Dark Material but its something I can live without. And yes it did, you can freeze Light flow and see what happens after a day's use.

Here's one from when I still had Light Flow installed on BlissPop a day or two ago, issue has not changed since.
Code:
======================================================
Wakelocks (requires root / system app on Android 4.4+)
======================================================
*alarm* (com.android.providers.calendar.Calendar Storage): 4 m Count:3 34.6%
*alarm* (com.android.vending.Google Play Store): 2 m 13 s Count:1 19.1%
*alarm* (Android System): 27 s Count:13 4.0%
StartingAlertService (com.android.calendar.Calendar): 6 s Count:3 0.9%
Thats only 4 minutes with 3 counts. Thats not bad at all, disable Calendar sync. Use the Calendar from Play Store and possibly new gapps. I use banks gapps and have no problems. Unfortunately my BBS wasn't started so I don't have a log to send back.

Yeah I took that log pretty quickly.. it gets to firing off for hours like what you had in your wakelocks posted. I'll have to let them fire for awhile and take another log later if no further information or fixes surface
One of your apps are triggering it or you have bad gapps.
Try a fresh scratch installation with banks gapps http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=banks&device=gapps
Install/restore only the apps you must need. Use it for a hour and see what happens.
You can also try and deny "Keep Awake" permission to Google Play Services.

Just a half hour or so on Terminus and alarms are firing away even after I switched to Google Calendar (was already unsynced) It says it's been in deep sleep 81% of the time which is good... it is also not mathematically possible with the alarm wakelock numbers as I understand them. I would greatly appreciate if you or anyone else can make any sense of this. If I need to let it run for X amount of hours uninterrupted let me know, I just noticed a lot of alarms firing within a half hour or so, thought this might help now that I fixed calendar issue and removed LightFlow.
Do you happen to have GPS on or Google Location Reporting or google now? I mean you can't get perfect 0 wakelocks, wakelocks are intended to happen and so are alarms. Its all apart of Android, but I don't think there is significant battery drain on your phone.

Yeah, it's all on. I'm something of a BBS watcher and my usage has not changed but I have noticed the wakelocks increasing. I do not really understand how these alarms work. Right now it says I have 1 h 8 m deep sleep, 13 m 35 sec awake, 11 m 3 s screen on and yet my *alarm* for play store is 15 m 55s, 14m Googlee Services, 12 m Google search, 12m Audioin, 12m latin Android keyboard? It does not add up to me.. maybe these alarms and their times are not quite what I think? I appreciate all the help, definitely could be helpful to realize if there even is a problem. What made you think those alarm wakelocks were problematic? It seems to me my times will be just as high if I leave it running a day and a half like you did...

Hi,
Im just curious how to track down the reason for reboots with stock ROM and stock kernel, not rooted. I had one random reboot yesterday (when watching trailers in the IMDB app) after almost a week I own N7. I know that one reboot in a week is nothing, but its my new toy and Id like to know how to track down the reason for that in case it happens again.
I found out some threads about this and generally it says I should use LogCat - but I dont know how to use it. So I please ask for help! For now, I started Stability Test (CPU+GPU) and wait ...
Happy New Year, Y'all !!!
EDIT: Ghardashyan a bit lower mentioned hes been having reboots when watching youtube videos. Anybody else having this kind of behavior? Also, I had my reboot when watching trailers in the IMDB app - its playing via youtube, right?
The ONLY reboot I have ever seen, is when the default lockscreen widget gets updated by the marketplace. It's guaranteed to reboot on 4.2. It does it every time on both my Nexus 4 and my Nexus 7.
You will only ever see it, if you remove the default android 4.2 lockscreen time widget and put something else there from the marketplace, and only when that widget gets a marketplace file update.
Perhaps you are seeing this? Do you have auto-update apps enabled???

Its to do with location based services, HD Widgets is a major culprit and stated they were talking to Google to try and resolve the issue, it is also as stated before mainly because of the new lockscreen widgets, which HD Widgets also provide, so the stock widget could also cause the same issue?
Mine have pretty much stopped with the last update of HD Widgets, but it does still occur.

Since you're on stock rom and kernel, I think the best way would be to reset your device and keep track of what applications are installed, one at a time.
My guess is that one of the installed apps are causing it..

I know that, but as it was one reboot only in less than a week, it could take months to track the app down ... Im about to restart the device myself and then use alogrec to continually record stuff.
EDIT: Alogrec is not recording a thing, so I rooted my phone. In case of restart, I believe it should be enough to save last_kmsg. Am I right?

Correlation does not equal causation and it seems some are eager to go barking up the wrong tree. As has been stated here, as well as confirmed by Google, it is a bug at the OS level. It has nothing to do, per say, with HD Widgets, YouTube, or any individual app. It affects all products running 4.2 and 4.2.1.
Until Google fixes the issue, there are only two guaranteed workarounds- disable location services or downgrade to 4.1.2.

Settings › Location. Bear in mind that the tradeoff is that, among other things, Google Now will no longer be functional.
For me, the reboots haven't been annoying enough to warrant disabling it on mine just yet.

Great, thanks. :good: I disabled that for now and will turn it on only when I need navigation. I dont use Google Now anyway.
BTW, when Google finds a solution for this, should I expect a full system upgrade?
Just experienced my first random reboot while streaming a flash video on Firefox Beta..
Random reboots are annoying me as well with my stock unrooted n7
Mostly though its during wifi/network activity not just in one app, have had reboots while in youtube, ebay, chrome etc. I have also seen it reboot while in standby
All started from 4.2
Would be interested to know if these reboots are reported back to google?

Welcome to the open discussion of BetterBatteryStats.
I would like everyone to give a big hug(and thanks) to aashay960 for finding this app:
BetterBatteryStats
What does it do?
Well it records the power usage of every single thing that drains battery from your phone.
And when I say everything I mean everything. Wakelocks, apps, alarms, you name it.
Why the fudge would I download it?
Spontaneously this great dude in the second post had the idea to tackle the not-so-great battery life on our device when it runs an overclocked kernel and/or in general.
You will be helping us find the heavy draining apps and stuff, which would lead to their fix.
And you will increase your own battery life if you provide us with good feedback.
Woah thats great, how can I help?
Check the second post for tips tricks and instructions on how to operate this app.
I hate this app, and I hate you.
*hugs* Have a great day :3
Don't forget to hit the thanks button in the original thread for buy it from the app store if you really enjoyed working with it. :3
Note:Since i got bored i will be updating the layout from my 10.1" screen laptop. Lets see how it goes.
Guys, if we want to pull this off we will need all of you to contribute to this thread. There are a lot of factors that can affect your battery stats and I will not be surprised if everyone gets different results. But that is exactly why we need as many results as possible.
Here's what you should do..
ONE-TIME STEPS
Go to the original thread. (Link in OP)
Have a good read
Download and install the app
Open the app
Have a look around then go to Menu>Settings>Advanced> select Root features
In the main screen of the app, press "other" and select "Alarm". It will ask for superuser permission, Grant it.
STEPS WHEN REPORTING
Charge your phone fully (so that we get more data)
After you unplug your charger, go to the app and make sure the second line says "unplugged"
Then, Forget about the app (well, not completely )
Use your phone like you normally would. The more you use it, the more data we will have. Leave it overnight if you can.
IMPORTANT - DO THE NEXT STEP BEFORE YOU PLUG IN YOUR CHARGER OTHERWISE ALL WILL BE WASTED
When it is time to charge you phone again, go to the app, Select Menu>More>Raw Stats
Click on "Other" and take screen shots of the following screens
Partial wakelock (very important)
Kernel Wakelock
Alarms
Process
Network
HOW TO REPORT
Name of Rom:
Name of Kernel:
Battery drain per hour: (it is mentioned on the main screen of the app below "current")
The screen shots:
Anything else you would like to mention
Optional - CPU Settings(max/min, governor etc)
POINTS TO REMEMBER
Your stats will depend on a LOT of factors and you will get somewhat different stats every time you charge.
Please do not post screenshots as soon as you install the app. It will be useless. The app needs time to collect data.
The more (number of hours) you use the phone, the better the stats will be.
Please visit the thread every 2 or 3 days and post your (new) results. It will hardly take time to take 5 screenshots
And dont worry, BetterbatteryStats itself will not cause any battery drain
All this might seem confusing but it is all really very simple. I have tried to make this post with extreme detail so that all the members can help.
Aww man.. I had been collecting data for almost 20 hours. Battery went from 100 to 27. Then i rebooted the phone for some other reason and now its all gone.WIll have to start again... Lesson learned
I found this guide on wakelocks that explains the most common ones. Really helpful.
OP Updated, hopefully people can get a better idea of what we are aiming for.
Also aashaay, i suggest that we elaborate on a proper etiquette and topic layout in your guide. It would be super usefull for people that are just getting started. PM me so we can find an enviorment that lets us do that.
Edit: OP maystill go under some changes, but the link will remain.

Thank you for posting. The 3 major battery suckers in your phone are wifi, facebook and google services. As I myself dont use wifi, I will not be able to comment on that.
As far as facebook and google services go , I would Suggest getting an app called Greenify. I have been using this app myself and so far it has proved to be really effective. And its really easy to use.
The downside is
Facebook - No more push notifications. You will have to open the app when you want to see your notifications and stuff..
Google services - You will not be able to install apps directly from your PC. You have to go to the Play Store in your phone. I dont think this should be a big problem though.
On the upside, you will see a much better battery life and maybe a increase in performance as these apps will not constantly run in the background. They will run as usual when you personally launch them. Give this a try. Hope this helps.
PS - I would personally suggest getting rid of the facebook app and using your browser to go to m.facebook.com. That will be even better. The facebook app has been known to cause a lot of wakelocks and unnecessary background processes. It is your choice though. Best of luck
Get rid of the Facebook app, it's balls lol. I've greenified play services and so I needed to do to install from PC is open play store on my phone. No big deal. If you really don't want to use m. Facebook. What I would suggest you going for either flipster or any other substitute. Just don't use the default one. Disable Wi-Fi when you are not using it and you should be good to go :3
P.S. May I suggest you put greenify in the instructions, aashay? Like " What to do after you collected data"
Thanks

I dont think Greenify will 'always' be the solution to the problem. I would say as people post their stats we could help them out with it (only once though, I'm not answering the facebook thing again lol). So after a while we will have a database of problems and solutions that others users can just go through and use the 'search' button. What do you say?

I think I can help you reduce the com.android.gsf wakelock (alarm)..
>Get the app called Autorun Manager
>Go to Menu - Settings - Enable system app disable (it should be checked)
>Press home and then go back to the app
>Look for 'Google Services Framework' in the list (NOT 'Google Services')
>Uncheck anything with 'gtalkservice' in it. (There should be about 5 or 6)
I think that might help you. i did that and I rarely get alarms from that anymore. And greenify facebook messenger if you want
Cyanogenmod 10
Prometheus Kernel (800max)
Per hour - 1.8% (which is amazing)
Run Time - 1 day 5 hours 48 mins 21 secs
Screenshots attached
Comments - The major suckers were whatsapp, Onavo count and E-mail (for some strange reason).
I cannot greenify or do anything else with whatsapp and onavo because they are way too important for me.
I do NOT use push notifications for Email .I have set it to sync every 30 mins (which is pretty conservative). Maybe its a one time thing and a reboot should fix it. If it happens again in the next run, I'll look into it.
Well after doing everything you suggested and greenify almost everything I am now on 42% after 20 hrs at 1.6 pH.
Amazing people, thank you.

You do know that greenify means no background processes right? That means no more push messages. Make sure you know what you are doing. Have a read about that app on the official thread on xda. It'll help you understand better.
Yes I did read up on it first. I left things like whatsapp, BBS, gmail and WiFi keep alive active.
I didn't realize just how bad fbook was.

There is a link in post #4 of this thread which explains the common wakelocks.
Yes, sorry!
I did search when I realised how lazy just asking for solutions rather than searching was!
The problem
Hi, I've been experiencing significant interface stuttering whenever an application has been granted accessibility permissions.
Video of the problem
Here is a video demonstrating the issue, read below for technical information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFVKCx5zVmQ
Facts about the problem
Ok so here's what I know so far:
It doesn't matter which service you grant access to, it will lag the same. I've tried LMT, Swipe Navigation, LastPass, TalkBack, and a few more I can't even remember at the moment.
It doesn't matter what ROM or Kernel you are on. I've tried Euphoria with LK and Hydra, rooted stock with stock kernel and LK, and Benzo with whatever the default Benzo kernel is. Doesn't make a single difference.
It does not only affect Relay for Reddit comment collapsing. It also affect Google Newsstand's mini/big card transition, news source transitions, Google Now transitions, basically anywhere there is an animation in the OS I can notice the stuttering.
Anyone else experience this? Any ideas? It is driving me crazy.
I'm not experiencing that
I've used custom roms/kernels almost all of them in the development forum lol
I wonder if maybe it's a particular accessibility itself? I feel like since its needing to be authorized in accessibility that it might be conflicting with something else, who knows?
People usually try booting the phone into safe mode and seeing if maybes its a third party app?
Thats my 2 cents! Hopefully it helps
It has nothing to do with a specific accesibility from what I can feel, stuttering occurs regardless of the app.
I have full wiped several times to test and can't find a solution.
Does anyone else experience this or have any ideas?
Can anybody duplicate this?
Should I RMA?

I've done this when using LK/Hydra, but I am not running stock kernel. None of the adjustments made any noticeable difference unfortunately
I really hate to bump this but the video only has 16 views and I'd love someone else to confirm or deny the same behavior when granting an app accessibility permissions.
If this is common behavior I won't RMA, but if no one else can recreate this I'm going to.
Oh, another thing I noticed: you don't have to test it in an app like Relay for Reddit, you can also do it in the Chrome browser on a site that has a lot of information. What I've noticed is that, when accessibility is granted to any app, visiting XDA forums becomes almost unusable. It takes FOREVER to scroll and when I can scroll it is extremely choppy. Disable the accessibility permission? Completely solves the problem.
You are NOT crazy. I have been searching, seeing if anyone else had this problem. I am using a completely stock Nexus 6 (not rooted), and because of the screen size I have been tinkering with apps to help with one handed use (like pie controls, handy soft keys, etc). They also require accessibility to be enabled. Whenever I install them, I notice (about once every 6-7 times) that when I open my app drawer on Nova launcher, it will half freeze, half stutter. Most of the time it's fine, but once every few times it happens. I haven't paid too much higher attention to whether jt causes stuttering in other apps, but it drives me nuts and so I uninstall the app and go back to stretching my thumb to use the stock nav keys. Wish this would get fixed. Kind of unacceptable for a Nexus - that kind of stuttering is why I don't like using Samsung devices.
Here is the Swipe Navigation developer saying it is definitely a thing in Lollipop with accessibility settings. (screenshot from Play Store comments on Swipe Navigation app). I wish someone could figure this out - I guess we have to wait for Google to do that?
I am using PieControl Pro and I do believe it makes the animations in the Play story stutter when I open a page and use the back button to go back to the app overview. The Play store was never completely smooth no matter what, but when I disable accessibility for PieControl Pro, it becomes a little better. So yeah, accessibility does seem to affect UI performance. I'm on stock Android 5.1 with Franco Kernel.

Thank you! I was losing my mind tryingbto figure this out so I opened a support ticket with Google play store and the person who handled my case was able to reproduce it and has made a note of it (whether this means there's an official bug report or not I don't know). He also said this issue cannot be used to RMA, since it wouldn't do anything anyway.
Unless someone can confirm that they DO NOT have this issue.
Im using swipe navigation and I'm noticing stutter as well. Wonder why this happens. Took me a while to figure it out.
Would you mind pointing me to the Google page where you reported this? I would like to star it as well, and follow their updates.
As a follow up, today I decided to tinker around and install pie again. Since the Nova app drawer animation is what I always notice stuttering first, I decided to just turn Nova animations off. Then, I went into Android settings, developer options, and reduced the three animation settings to 0.5x. I may just be seeing what I want to see, but the UI hasn't seemed to stutter with Pie enabled in accessibility (yet). Going to try this for a day or two.
I've gotten the same issues with Lastpass.
Lastpass even states on their site that it's a lollipop issue.

Sorry if this counts as bringing up an old thread, although it's not THAT old
Anyway, I've come here just to corroborate all your findings and confirm that I am also experiencing this ugly bug. A few days ago I installed Greenify which, among other things, asked to enable Accessibility features for it. Thinking nothing of it I did as requested. Next day I start noticing some UI lagginess and choppiness, which was especially noticeable to me in Relay for Reddit since I use it a lot (too much for my own good in fact) and I distinctly remember it had very smooth scrolling between comments just a few days ago. In the mean time, I completely forget I've granted Greenify accessibility control so I went on a mission trying to fix this inexplainable, sudden UI choppiness, by trying to flash a different kernel, trying different governors, dirty flashing my ROM, trying all the other tweaks, and finally doing a factory reset and flashing the stock ROM all over again (luckly I did make a nandroid). Nothing helped. I was at my wits end when I tried searching the app's subreddit for anyone experiencing the same issue and found a comments saying accessibility features were to blame. I felt stupid for not researching it before. However, this bug is very insidious as it just creeps up on you, with no reason. I also don't know how can accessibility features affect UI smoothness this way.
Yes, hopefully will be fixed in M maybe? I haven't checked around to see if those who have installed M preview have checked to see if the bug has been fixed there. Fingers crossed.....
Not fixed in M. Everyone should go star the issue so it gets fixed!

Still isnt fixed ) But my lag rather appears when tapping on any app icon, then it highlights, then go lag, then opening animation starts.
Post this over on reddit and see if you can bring a bit more attention to the issue.
Hi all. I have a problem with my oneplus 3t. Whatsapp facebook and instagran consume a lot of battery even more than screen and my battery life is really bad... What can i do? I have already wiped all. This happened to me since i update to 4.0.3

It is not problem related to your device.
Problem lies with the applications and their optimisation. All mentioned apps are battery hoggers. You can complain at app's Google play page. (But they'll not listen obvio)
I dont have facebook, i have instagram greenified so it only consumes battery when i use it, and with whatsapp i found that going to to settings, backup and resit and disabling backup helped so much. I noticed whatsapp was sending and receiving a huge amount of packets compared to my actual usage so figured it must constantly be syncing in the background. You can either set up tasker to turn backup back on once a day like i do or whatever frequency you choose or just do it manually yourself from time to time.
Edit: i have added some screenshots. Since these i have been playing around with custom kernels and have been getting even better battery life.

On your phone go to settings, go down to backup and reset, under backup my data tap it and select off. Recharge your battery and see if it makes a difference, it did for me.
Oh yeh and on the play store find whatsapp, scroll down and enter the beta programme.

Okay maybe if i do another reset things will be fine ?
Using the modded version of whatsapp with no hibernation despite of greenify installed. My battery time is more than a day despite of heavy gaming and Facebook... O yes, i dont use messenger n fb app, use folio instead, it would save you 450mb of additional space along with ram n battery ?...

Is it normal?
Hello
Since updating to LineageOS 19.1 I no longer receive notifications from the calendar app. The notification only appears after I open the calendar app. Does anyone know the problem and can help me solve it?
Many thanks
Found this thread, says apps such as cleaner master can cause such an issue.

I have the same problem. One thing to try is long press on the calendar app and tap the "i" to see the app info. Make sure that alarms are allowed (at the bottom) and also try changing Battery to "unrestricted".
I have the same problem in a Pixel 4a (sunfish). I was going to open an issue at Gitlab, but haven't been able to narrow the focus. Last week I got a notification (right on time), while I was on a phone call. However, I can't figure out when it works (almost never), or why.
As you said, sometimes I get old notifications (24+ hrs old) while working on the calendar app.
There's another issue with Calendar. It crashes when you try 'search'. I saw this on Gitlab. That can be fixed by installing the FDroid version of Etar 1.0.30. However, notifications aren't fixed by using that version. I tried.
I just changed Battery from 'Optimized' to 'Unrestricted'. I don't have much hope, though.
I'll post if that helps.

Changing battery to "Unrestricted" made the difference for me. I've not missed a calendar notification since the change. Thanks for this.
However, is this a bug? Should it work with battery 'Optimized'?
BTW, you might consider having this discussion within the official LOS19 thread.

Yes, this method seems to be working for me as well. May be good to mention it in the LOS19 thread. It is sort of a bug in design if anything. Since the calendar app may not be accessed much or have constant reminders, it might not be given high priority in the optimization.
Thank you for that information. Will try that with changing battery to "Unrestricted".
Thank you! Everything now works perfectly!
