[Q] Disable Bluetooth mic for Moto Voice - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In Google Now, there's an option to disable "Bluetooth Headset - Records audio through Bluetooth headset if available". Doing that allows me to trigger Google Now in the car (E92 BMW) where it does not support triggering Bluetooth mic/Call button press pass through. Wondering if there's a way to do that with Moto Voice.
Essentially now, once Bluetooth is paired, Moto Voice routes all audio and mic input to the Bluetooth system. I want it to work like Google Now - output goes to Bluetooth A2DP but input stays with the built in mic.

My buddy has had luck using Moto Hint software with his Nexus 6. Hope it works for you.

Which is Moto Hint? I can't find it on my phone. Only thing I have is "Moto" which controls Voice, Display, Assist and Actions.

The Moto Hint is a Bluetooth earbud.

Yeah, that's not going to be of any help. Car already have Bluetooth handsfree calling. I just need to make Moto Voice listen on phone's built in mic instead of Bluetooth device.

I apologize. The app he uses is hint2search that routes the search button in his console to trigger the OK google hotword. My apologies.

Strange. I don't have the same vehicle but the way mine works is the way you want it to work (i think).
My phone pairs, and all my voice commands work through the phone and outputs through the vehicle speakers over bluetooth. I have been looking for a way to make it work so that if i hit my bluetooth button, i can dictate a command over bluetooth. With the hint2search app i can do it, but it can be unreliable and the output is super quiet for some reason.
this probably doesn't help much but at least this will bump this thread.

Yeah, that's how it works when the car's system is capable of passing through bluetooth commands. Older first gen bluetooth systems don't have that capability

so my question is, why would you want to speak through he phones mic rather than over bluetooth? For the always listening stuff?

Music Thru Car BlueTooth

Is there a app that will allow music to play thru the Bluetooth in my car?
I have a stock radio that has bluetooth, I can make & receive calls in my car using the bluetooth. However I can NOT play music on my phone and hear it thru my car speakers.
Is there a app solution to this or something else to get this to work
TIA
I would love this...

I'm not understanding the question. Any music player on the G1 (with 1.5) can play music over AD2P through your car headunit. I do it all the time. I can also pause/play and track-forward/back using the headunit's controls.

Not all bluetooth devices support the a2dp profile, some just act as a headset, I've seen similar requests for people wanting audio streamed to a blue tooth headset that doesn't support a2dp either.
As long as your running 1.5 and the latest radio that goes with it, you should be able to get A2DP working without any other applications. Just pair up your car stereo with your phone and it should automatically detect the profile and start piping audio through.

Exactly, I believe my car stereo does NOT support A2DP. I have no problems playing/hearing music thru my Motorola HT820 or my PC.

Long press "Bluetooth Handsfree" and select options. Under profiles you should see a Media profile and it should be checked. If you do not see this, your stereo does not support A2DP.
edit: If your stereo has a line out jack, you can get something like this to make your system A2DP capable without buying a whole new stereo.

Thanks for the tip
I checked under options and it does not show a "Media" profile
My stereo does have a line out jack, but Im not sure I want to spend $100+ on a gadget.
Im hoping some bright app developer can make a app to some how trick my stereo into thinking its a call as my phone plays music
Wishful thinking? I think not, Im sure someone can make it work. I do remember when people said transfering files via Bluetooth was impossible! But now we can with Bluex.

Not possible. The way bluetooth works is that the both devices have to have the same profile in common to communicate with each other. Your phone supports it, your car stereo does not. With OBEX, other devices supported it but the phone did not. To get this working you would either need to hack your stereo to enable the A2DP profile, get a bluetooth gateway (like what I have) or get a new stereo receiver that supports A2DP out of the box.
From experience I can say that the gateway is the best option. I got mine on sale for under $50 at buy.com and it works beautifully. My phone automatically pairs with it when my car turns on and I can make/receive calls as well as listen to music no problem.

He already said other handsets support sending audio to BT devices that don't support A2DP, it's just a matter if the underlying Android OS supports sending audio streaming to non-A2DP devices, eg faking a phone call basically, or not. Or if it can easily be hacked in by someone.
I'm guessing this may require screwing about with the underlying OS code, an app alone may not be able to do it without OS support.
At least I understand the question better now You want an app developer to create something that allows the phone to make up for what's lacking in your headunit.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the "headset" profile mono by definition? Are you cool with giving up stereo and audio quality just to get your music over bluetooth to your headunit?
I won't say it's not possible. I've been wrong before on pronouncements like that. But app development is driven by need in the Android world (usually the developer's need first). I hope there's a big enough need that someone will help you out.

The same arguments are made about MP3 v lossless compression, and it turns out people do accept these sort of limitations after all
I don't know enough about the bluetooth standards to even know where to begin making such an app, and I don't plan to start reading up to find out
While not as cheap as a BT audio gateway option, but you can get an inline BT attachment to suit non-BT enabled car radios to support A2DP and for those of you still using phones to talk to others you can even use it as a hands free car kit which uses the car speaks...

I'm glad my unit already does this. But I never use it.
Its worse than just being mono... headset profile is actually a much lower quality... phone quality.
Bluetooth A2DP Audio Gateways
I've been trying to do the same thing as OP, except my stereo does NOT have bluetooth. It does have an aux in down by the cigarette lighter. I've been googling like a fool and researching available bluetooth gateways, thanks to the poster that pointed us towards that Kensington unit. I'm not willing to spend $100 US on this functionality. I have, however, found a nice little device I plan to pick up soon.

I know it's old, but in case anyone stumbles on this thread, try btmono (an app on Google play) It puts audio through a mono headset such as that described above. Cheers

[Q] using bluetooth headphones/ video

Hey all,
I have HD7 and listen to music when travelling, everything works fine. But just recently I attempted to watch a film and the sound will not play through the Bluetooth headphones, it transfers the sound to the speakers? Anyone know how to change this at all??

Hi, I noticed the same issue on mine and there seems no way to change it.
I will offer a thought on why i think is happening.
On my other Android phones only the Galaxy S actually did a good job of keeping the audio and video in sync when using Bluetooth A2DP. The protocol has buffering in it so for audio its no problem but video can be tricky.
I think they just set it to not use Bluetooth for video audio to save complaints.
shame.

Hello, do you have the possibility to call a contact with the voice ( voice dialing) by the headset like on the HD1 ( and not on the HD2) ?
Thanks

I don't know whether you can activate the voice dialing using purely the headset, but you can use voice dial through a bluetooth headset. Just connect the headset and then hold down the start button until it asks you to speak. It works no matter which app you're using.
It also works without the headset.
bluetooth headphones
Hi,
To Russ, i previously had a Touch Diamond 2 and used these same headphones and it worked perfectly. I actually believe it has something to do with Zune and the player that they use?, it cant recognise that a headset is attached and therefore reverts to the speakers.
With regards to activating the voice dialing, with my bluetooth headphones which are Sony ericsson ones, it has an answer button, which when pressed with no incoming call it activates the voice dialling just as usual saying the same "Call mum".

Thank you, goood news because the HD2's bluetooth stack wasn't able to hear the voice dialing by the blutooth headset , and it only works only by the HD2's microphone.
Thank you

I am not sure if you are still looking for this, but YES, the voice dialing can be activated using the BT Headset. I have a Voyager Pro Plus and it works just fine.
As per the original thread title, I am having the same problem playing video files audio not getting transmitted via my BT Headset, So I called HTC to ask them what was the problem. They confirmed it is a software issue.
He said, it was a WP7 limitation. May be the future updates might get that feature, but right now it SUX. I am not sure how MS managed to F#$% this up. I am really Pissed. I was waiting for ever for this Headset so that I can watch my movies during my commute with the convenience of a BT Headset, now the whole purpose is lost.

Voice Control and Car Bluetooth?

Is the MotoX smart enough to listen over its built in mic when in a moving car and paired with a Bluetooth for calls and media streaming? In my Hyundai with other phones voice controls do not work because the phone is listening over bluetooth but the car mic and head unit is not always listening. I must use steering wheel controls to initialize the listening feature of the head unit. This has always bothered me and I hope MotoX does it right.

In my very limited test using a 2013 Malibu it would not listen. The one way it would was when I activated voice search from "car home ultra" . Then it worked great.
Sent through mental telepathy... Or my moto x.
Thanks for your reply. Anyone else have any luck with this?
Bump. Anyone else?
The phone listens in my car, 2011 VW GTI. The touchless controls work great.
I don't have a Moto X, it's a Galaxy S2, but perhaps indicative of Android - on KitKat, I can dictate fine using Swiftkey (and Vlingo/Robin) but my auto bluetooth won't work with Google Now. All initiated from the phone. YMMV.

I have a fix in my link below.
Old thread of mine and happy to report that when paired to car Bluetooth it handles calls and media streaming properly while voice controls still work via the phone. I use it all the time to navigate while driving.

Driving mode/Voice Control conflicts with Sync in my F-150. Sometimes calls go through Sync sometimes they don't. Sometimes texts show up through Sync most times they don't. I find it inconsistent and annoying.
I second that it works great through BT in my car. I have an aftermarket head unit. I was especially glad when Google Play Music would recognize playing specific playlists and "I Feel Lucky" playlists. I also like that drunken passengers can't trick it since it won't recognize their voices.

[Q] Read Text Message Over Bluetooth

I am trying to get my Moto X to read text messages though my car's bluetooth stereo. When driving, I'll get the pop up saying "Say Listen to hear message", it accepts the command, says "Reading..." but then I don't hear anything. Is there any option I need to enable to hear it though the car stereo?
I assume you're using MotoAssist. I don't use that but ReadItToMe Pro works well for me. It sends my text messages to any Bluetooth device or wired headset and senses when a device is connected. I thinks there is a free version too.

It should work just like you said. I used mine yesterday to receive and send text messages. Have you tried a hard re-boot of the phone? Edit: Can you hear it say "Say listen to hear messages"?
If your stereo is connected as A2DP it should work with anything that comes over the "Media" channel. I use a small bluetooth dongle in my car that converts the wireless signal into a 3.5mm aux in. It saves me from having to plug in when I enter the car, and the bluetooth connection initiates several Tasker profiles.
Any sound that my phone makes that would come through the speaker as media such as Pandora, games, etc. goes through the bluetooth connection.

I tried ReadItToMe.
If my car stereo in on BT channel everything ok.
But if I'm listening to FM radio, I can't configure it to switch to BT, read the message and then go back to FM, as when a call arrives.
It looks working, but I can't hear anything.

Is it your car or the phone which is doing the popup? I have a UConnect system in my Ram, and when I get a text I get a prompt from the truck to listen to the message if I'm moving, or listen or read if I am not. The UConnect, not the phone will read the message. This is nice, because it doesn't matter whether I'm streaming from the phone, listening to SirusXM or whatever... If you're relying on the phone you have to either be streaming via BT or in actual phone mode with the system I have.
If it's like this, try unpairing the phone on both sides (vehicle and phone) Then re-pair, and make sure you wait for the prompts that your vehicle is requesting access to whatever, and accept them.
It might help to mention the make and model of the audio system you have, so people who also have it can chime in. Each of these systems is slightly different, and many have different capabilities.

If you have not already, perhaps try all the options under the How section in the ReadItToMe settings. I use the music stream option but I never listen to FM in my car. It's either audio from the phone or an iPod.

but... today, for the first time, it worked, using bt mono option.
maybe it's because of the new rom I flashed.
only one problem, voice starts after few seconds, so part of the message is not read.

I have this issue too and I am using an aftermarket Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS head unit. However if I'm listening to Bluetooth audio, the audio will go quiet for a second as if a notification came in, but no notification will go through the speaker system and the phone won't make noise either. It's quite annoying cause then I have to look the phone to see what it was. I also have the same issue when using Motorola assist where it will understand the command but I can't hear the response.
Is it possible to set something up in Tasker to be able to play the sound through the phone speaker while still retaining Bluetooth connectivity for music?
I have also tried tinkering with the Bluetooth settings in the new assist that gets upgraded and 4.4.2, but to no avail.

Anyone use Moto-X on a motorbike

I upgraded to the Moto-X for the touchless controls as I commute to work and back on my motorbike and I was really unsatisfied with alternatives floating around to simulate touchless control.
Now when I am in my car and using my bluetooth headset the voice control works just fine, I can navigate, call and send quick messages no problem
But on my bike I use a Viper RSv-131 helmet which has bluetooth built in and I listen to local radio or music whilst I'm riding but my Moto-X does not respond when I cay Ok Google now or when I press the button on my helmet either I can answer incoming calls fine but thats it.
Does anyone else use a Moto-X on a motorcycle/motorbike or even a regular bicycle with bluetooth and do you have similar problems?

Thanks Etcetra, I have bluetooth headset option turned on and it works using my BT headset in the car.
My gut reaction is my car headset is a regular over the ear BT headset but my helmet is like BT stereo headphones with a microphone and so I think it's a different kind of BT but I'm not an expert.
Any advice would be welcome
Check to see which profiles are connected on each device by going into Bluetooth settings and tapping the little settings icon next to the connection.

That's unfortunate as it suggests an incompatibility issue between the two. It should certainly work using the phone profile.
Check with the helmet maker... maybe they have a firmware update available.
