That's really not the concern.
The question is: Is the app, that you found somewhere on the web, safe?
Did the Dev include malware, spyware, adware, keylogger....
If the app is not open source, there is no guaranteed way to check.
The other questions is, does it root the device? That is fairly easy to check use Root checker

It rooted the phone. I used safestrap and install ICS. The app wasn't fully in English tho. Part of it was but mostly in something like Chinese or Japanese or something. I really don't know if it had a virus or anything but it did root the phone.

Since u r flashing the zip thru clockwork recovery, and u most likely rooted to get that far yes... however if u r one of few who managed to install a custom recovery but did not root then I suppose u would not have to have root.

just the apk will do u no good, because of a few reasons, first is that it needs to be a system app, which without root u can not install it to the system/app location , and even if u got it to install without root it still will not work because it requires the libs for it to work, the app itself can not decode hand writing to text without them.
And just fyi a zip that u flash yo install any kind of app contains the apk, all u need to do is open the zip and u will see the app

I did see the apk. I was just unsure on how to root my Xoom. Even though I've extensively on the subject, I still find it a little intimidating, I was hoping there was a "One Click Root" program.

Assuming you can fastboot back to ICS, here is how you get rooted on Jellybean if you are completely not rooted:
Fastboot (or RSD) the ICS Firmware for the Jellybean Leak to install on
Root normally with motofail2go by djrbliss
Install Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper. Backup su AND do a Temp. Unroot.
Install Jellybean Leak
Restore root with Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper
??????
Profit
Assuming you are rooted.. just start with the Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper step.
Yeah..I've been thinking on Vodoo. I guess it's the very first JB leak. Please post any bugs or issues here. Don't wanna mess much my AHD coz it's my daily phone.
So what's up with Kingo ROOT Method? Has anyone got info on it? I used it and now it is deleted and the thread is closed. I'm a little concerned about my Xperia Z and my laptop. Does it or does it not install something bad on either one of the devices?
Nobody knows either way for sure.
What is known-
- Their website is registered anonymously.
- It appears to be hosted in the US.
- There is no geographical address given on the company website. Strange, given they state they are a limited company.
- The person representing them on these forums says they are from Canada.
- Their representative will not say how the tool works or what it does.
- The tool contacts a server in China when you run it.
Given the above, I personally do not trust it, but that's not to say there IS anything bad happening.
When he closed the thread, gangsterjoop asked to be contacted with details on what the tool was doing when it contacts the server, so we will have to see what happens if they do.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
As far as I'm aware, the reason the thread was closed has more to do with the app using the work of others without permission and not being GPL and Apache license compliant, rather than it installing something sinister on your device.
Really? Interesting.
If that's the case, then it's even more reason to not trust them, although gangsterjoop specifically said he didn't trust the tool and asked to be contacted about why the tool was contacting China in his post in the thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46595305
He didn't mention open source licences at the time, so that's why I was unaware of that fact.
Edit: I see another thread regarding the tool also had the links removed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2473747
I'm guessing this was done because of the licencing issues mentioned.
All in all, this Kingo company/person seems to be highly untrustworthy to me, regardless of whether the tool is doing anything bad or not.

Yes, I agree. I think it's mainly because most people that used it are too lazy to have to use more than one process to root their phone.
Flashing the required kernels and rooting my phone with DooMLoRD's method took literally 5 minutes, but that's too much effort for some, unfortunately.

Not true, I find Doomlords method way too complicated. I may be the biggest noob on xda here. For the kind of people like me who don't know jack **** about this kind of stuff it's really helpful, I probably would never have rooted my phone without the one click solution because it's too damn complicated. I'm really wondering if Doomlord is that good why hasn't HE made something like that? It's not because i'm lazy that I chose the one click root, it's because I was too afraid of doing something wrong with the other method.
Complicated?
1. Use simple tool to flash a provided kernel.
2. Root by double clicking a batch file.
3. Use simple tool to flash original kernel.
Honestly, if you cannot follow simple step-by-step instructions then you shouldn't be rooting your phone in the first place.
As for questioning DooMLoRD's ability because he hasn't created a one-click solution; why should he spend his free time doing so? Firstly, the method he provided already works just fine and secondly, this is a development based site, not a place to hold people's hands.

I used kingo root tool for root my xperia z (4.1 & 4.2) and it's very very very easy way, let me say actually this tool is "the easiest". And nothing bad. Beside that i contact with them via facebook and they are very concerned about my problems.
Maybe they are look like suspicious. But i didn't see any bad things to not trust them.
p.s.: sorry for my "not enough" english
Sony Xperia Z & Tapatalk 2
I will be completely honest I am a complete retard when understanding how rooting works... But I have done the process a dozen of times and I havent had any major problems but for this root I cant figure it out! So here is my problem....
Verizon sent me an update to the newest system version (98.72.189.XT894.Verizon.en.US) so naturally I downloaded and installed the update and it UNROOTED my phone! I no longer have safestrap and superuser access and such. So I have tried different techniques and different programs on rooting this bad boy such as Motofail and Razrs_edge and I still cant get it to work... Both programs have the usual errors of "Permission Denied" or "Unable to". So all and all.... I NEED HELP!
Here is what I do know like im 99% sure about
-I have all the drivers and their is no yellow triangle and I have motorola device manager.
-I have Unknown Sources checked and USB debugging checked.
-I also forced stopped smart actions cuz I read on a post that I was causing problems while rooting.
Here is what I do NOT know
-Which USB mode do I need to be on? Mass Storage? MTP? idk!
-Do it matter that I am on 4.1.2?
Again I want to thank you for your time and I really would like some help with this darn thing! I am kinda desperate right now..
