The ambient display toggles on every 5 seconds rather I have a notification or not. So a lot of the time it is just coming on to show the clock and nothing else. And I think it must be doing the same thing in my pocket because I only had about 1.5 hours of screen on time today (light use) and the battery is depleted already.
Has anybody else had this issue or know how to figure out what app is making it come on for no reason? Driving me crazy.

Does anyone use Gentle alarm, and if so, do you use the night portion (basically makes it a giant clock) ?
I was just wondering, for such a large screen, if there could be screen or battery issues down the road, using it every night.

Personally I've never understood the need to use the phone (or a tablet) as a clock. I use Gentle Alarm on my Nexus One, but it's plugged in charging and the screen is off. I would imagine the screen being on every night for 8 hours would reduce the backlight life, and on phones with AMOLED for example, the screen life itself.
I have not tried Gentle Alarm on my NC..
After reading several other threads created to ask this specific question and trying most if not all of the offered solutions, I am resigned to the fact that a custom ROM may be the only way to disable the 100% battery charged notification.
Has anyone currently got a Note which does NOT vibrate/screen on when it reaches 100% charge? What was the solution? Custom ROM/app/decompiling systemui.apk?
Thanks.
PS. FYI 'Battery Charged Silencer' app does not currently work for Note, Tasker can only set 'silent' etc which does not affect it, and I do not want to buy a seperate alarm clock..
Mine Note never vibrate or sounds or give any notification when its fully charged.
I have to check it for myself, too see if it fully charged on the lockscreen.
Maybe theres a setting to enable/disable it then? Since mine never do that when its fully charged.
It does it. If you wait 30~ minutes after it reaches 100%, it will do it. There is no default setting to switch it off. I thought I had solved it last night by actually leaving the screen on absolute minimum, but it just takes longer to reach 'fully charged' state.
Any ideas or solutions would be great as it is driving me crazy.
It does. This vobrating crap wakes me every noght! Even if I dont charge it, it vibrates when battery is low. Very stupid that you cant turn it off.
Ive been looking for this functiok also. Badly!
Amazed there isn't any solution for this yet. For the time being I have reluctantly brought my W610i out of retirement to serve as an alarm clock.
Now I take two devices into the shower instead of just one.
I finally stumbled across the solution to this last night. You need to move the 'haptic feedback' slider all the way to the left in sound->vibration intensity. Having the other sliders down on their own isn't enough, but disabling haptic feedback stops the vibrate notification.
You can then use Tasker or other similar tool to suppress the 'screen on' notification.
i just got my Moto X updated last night (11/22/13 ) and so far i like it. I'm not sure if i plugged the phone back up overnight to charge it since i moved it from my normal spot on my night stand next to my bed to the kitchen counter when i started to download and update the phone. (wanted to be closer to the wifi for the download) so im not sure if the battery drain was from the new update or not plugging it in. I'm on At&t network btw. so far i haven't really noticed anything different except for the changes in the icons for locations service and settings button. the lock screen looks a bit "squattier" but i may have must not paid enough attention to it before. i normally use my phone as my music player at work and it has so far lasted me all day and not dropped to the 10% mark till way past time i should have been in bed having to be at work so early. so i will be interested to see if it makes better or worse battery life monday. when i noticed the battery was drained today i had been playing candy crush for about 45 mins and my normal usage for weekend and it was only down to 39%. oh and for the record i keep all the radios on except Bluetooth since i don't have any bt devices with auto brightness turned on as well. the notification bar icons are now all white. (formally they were blue with the signal bars and 4g icon turning white when it switched off Lte) lastley the "touch sounds" seem to be muted now to low to be noticeable if your not listening for them now. that's something i don't like as i dont have the greatest vision and the sounds actually helped me a lot. the update went smoothly and had actually forgotten about it until i got a call so i cant say for certain if the update took more than the 20 mins it said it would. how was your experience?
That's quite a wall of text there.
I'm also on ATT and just finished my first day with Kit Kat after the update last night.
I've not experienced any explicit problems.
After 17 hours my phone is at 31%, but I also had it on the charger for a short while this afternoon while i was exporting some photos. typically I'd be at about 30% by bed time with moderate use. I did use the GPS briefly and spent more time than usual away from wifi though. I also enabled android runtime. I'd give it a few days before I pass any judgement on battery life. Prior to the update I'd had a couple days which I had near 5 hours of screen time. That's impressive by it's self and I hope it continues, but those kind of days are rare for me.
Lol I typed it out on my computer originally. It didn't look like much but after seeing it on my phone...your right. Anyway I'm happy to report a full day of use and battery was only down to 19%.

My idle battery drain went way down on both my Nexus 7 and Moto X after the KitKat upgrade.
That's huge for me, because I often get busy at work and won't be able to touch/use my phone for long stretches, so it's nice to be able to carry my phone around for 6 hours but not have my battery life drop by 25% during that period.
Other than that, I'm happy. I wish they had kept the up/down arrows on the wifi signal. I do like the modifications to the haptic feedback, though - before, some of the vibrations were kind of rough and loud, many of them have been toned down.
Not liking kitkat, the dialer from jellybean that easily slid from logs to dialer to contatcs is gone. Im not likng the new dialer at all, the white theme it has drains more battery and is less easy on the eyes, google got it right with ics and jellybean theming most of the UI black, dialer also doesnt search for nearby places numbers like Nexus 5's dialer does, email app is good but again themed white, and a huge problem....setting the brightness all the way down isn't as low as jellybean was, this is a bug that needs to be fixed, the lowest brightness setting isnt low at all.
Hello! So, I installed Android 10 and now when i wireless charge my 10+ I always have always on display on the bottom of the screen (% and estimated waiting time to 100%). How do i turn it off? Even if the light is low, I really dont want it to be always displayed during charge (and maybe it could also cause burn in problems, altho i read always on display text isnt always using same pixels, so who knows).
Thanks!
I wouldn't worry about burn in. I use my phone a lot for youtube and waze and both caused serious burn in on my note 8 (max brightness usually), but on my s10 there is zero burn since release with the same usage.
You can however disable it. It's under Display and the option is called Show charging information
Hi everyone.
Just wanted the community's opinion on what your thoughts are about the AOD.
How many of you use it regularly? And those that do, what is your preferred setting - Always on (+/- scheduled) or Tap to Show for 10 seconds? What has been your experience with battery life and overall usability? Any tips or tricks? Any downsides?
Those who don't use AOD, could you please post your reasons, along with any experience with battery drain or screen burn in or other issues.
I'd like to use AOD (on the always on setting), but am not very sure what it costs in term of battery or screen life. The former is a non-issue for me personally but if it's going to affect screen life or quality, I may hesitate a little. I tried the tap to wake for 10 seconds thing but it seems to beat the purpose as I can just as easily go to the lockscreen with a double tap and neccessitating user-interaction negates any real benefit of an always-on feature.
My current settings are:
AOD Always on (scheduled from 7am to 10pm)
FIngerprint reader always on (so I can go directly from AOD to Homescreen without having to go through the lockscreen)
Fingerprint icon set to tap-to-show (just as a hint if i ever miss hitting the correct position when trying to unlock)
Your thoughts and suggestions are most welcome.
I only use AOD via AODNotify...that should have been an option in the poll.
I use a Tasker profile to turn AOD on (always) when a message arrives and revert back to tap to show when message is cleared.
I keep it on all the time, really helpful and doesn't seem to drain too much battery.
Btw does anyone know if it's possible to add weather info to the S21Us AOD?
One of the few things I still miss from my P4XL..
I don't use it drains a lot of battery
I use to always have it active on my 10+ but it got to be annoying. Tap on is fine.
I don't care to be informed every bloody second... that ain't no way to live.

Wasn't even aware something like that existed. Thanks for the heads-up, will check it out.
Poll updated with new option.
I like to keep the setting to always on with fingerprint always enabled showing thumbprint on screen always .
What i have noticed is the aod doesnt turn off when the phone is in pocket or lying upside down.
That would save so much battery.
AOD used to turn off automatically in my s9plus when the phone was in pocket .
May be this feature is disabled due to lack of active proximity sensor

The 10+ has a proximity sensor and AOD always remains on if set to. The face down off be nice.
Maybe it caused issues in the past. Samsung is sort of hit or miss though.
I have yet to use the fingerprint sensor, lol don't even know if it works.
Last thing I want is to get locked out of a device.
As soon as you set an access password this can happen and through no fault of your own. A hardware failure or glitch can trigger it. Had no password been set the setting wouldn't be enforced. I've gotten locked out of a PC bios like that, never again.

Does the fingerprint icon shift around like the clock or battery percentage (it has very little room to move around though)?
I hope it does, otherwise it'll land up causing screen burn if it's in the same position with the same pattern all the time. Have you noticed this?

Probably shifts it over a few pixels but in bright light over time it will cause uneven aging.

I set that sucker to always on all the time and at max brightness to boot. Cannot use a phone without the option.

According to your battery stats, how much drain is attributed to the AOD? Could you post a screenshot at the end of a day please?
I don't know how much drain is attributed to the AOD. As soon as I get the newest Samsung I turn it in and crank it up before I literally do anything else. I keep every setting on ALL the time (Bluetooth, wifi, nfc, etc). The battery gets me through a regular day. I'll try and post a screen shot. Today I took it off the charger 3 hours ago and I haven't stopped using the phone. I'm sitting at 85%.

You monster, you.
My smartwatch (Fit2, cheap) negates the need for AOD.

I have a serious addiction to smart phones, lol. I'm on mine about 12 hours a day. Mostly playing games or surfing the net. Today off my charger for 2.5 hours and I'm at 88% lol.

Cycle the battery between 35-65% if you can (and then raise both those numbers slowly over time) or else you will fry your battery fast.
If you're just going to buy a new phone in 2 years, then, don't bother with what I said.
