[Q] Does anybody have 2 smartwatches using the same phone? - Samsung Galaxy Gear

I got impatient waiting for the Gear S to be delivered and brought the MOTO 360. Recently TMobile delivered the Gear S and I decided to keep both. The problem is that I can only have software for one watch installed at a time.
Has anybody figured out a way to switch between watches without removing and reinstalling each watches app on your phone?
Thanks in advance

Don't have two watches, but I would assume you could use TiBu to freeze one app and to be able to install the other. If they don't play nice together you can keep one froze while using the second. Not an elegant solution but better than uninstalling and reinstalling every time.

Galaxy Gear Touch Screen No Longer Working! HELP

Hi I am not sure what happened but I found someone locally selling a Galaxy Gear for $200.00. I thought that was a pretty good deal so I met up with the person today and got the watch. He showed me it working on his Note 3. He breezed through the screens with his finger. I called him...he took the call on the watch...I mean everything looked fine. Now I must mention I already bought a Galaxy Gear and love it. Been side loading apps and really having fun with it. I thought for this price I could play around with rooting and try some things that I did not want to on my existing gear because I am happy with the way it is working. Figured if I sold it on Ebay eventually I would still make possibly $50.00 when it was all said and done. So the first thing I did was charge up the new Gear ..it was at 87% already but thought it could not hurt. I was trying to figure out how to link TWO gears to my Note 3 and you pretty much just add a new gear and unpair or disconnect the other. So far so good...so I get the option to restore my data....I'm like sweet! Goes through the entire process including with even watch styler. I push a recently configured watch face to the gear. And that's as far as I got. I tried to swipe left and right with no luck. no up or down either. Ok, I figure maybe the buggy watch styler hung up the gear. Hold the power button down on the side and I get the reboot or shutdown...go to hit shutdown and the screen does not sense I am touching it. I tried it over and over and still nothing. Finally my only option was to hold the side power button in....says rebooting...actually comes up shows the time but I still cannot swipe in any direction. I even went as far as to go into the system menu by pushing the side button over and over after the reboot and I did a reset in there but still no touch response. Now If I had not actually seen it working I would have thought the dude pulled a fast one on me and who knows maybe he still did but it WAS working. Out of desperation I called Samsung and gave them my serial number and they told me it is eligible for warranty return...but watch them find it was previously wet or dropped somehow. I do not know if it has been but that would just suck. So much for my good deal. Do any of you extremely smart folks know what I can try or do you think it and I are hosed? I did try USB to see if that made a difference and if I go into the download mode I could launch ODIN and it shows it is detected. I am trying not to totally reset my other gear by uninstalling anything on the phone but I trust you guys so what do think I should do?

I thought about that but if I do that and it does not work would I not be able to mail it back for warranty repair? I have already called samsung and gave them the S/N and they sent me a pre paid label to print off and mail the watch back. If I re-flash I might be screwed for that option. I might already be not knowing what the previous owner did.
Thanks for the response though

Gear..gear 2..android wear

Hi all...I'm looking to get a smart watch. I have been reading up a lot but still have more to go. This is the way I see it so far.
Original gear...can root and run a custom ROM.
Gear 2/neo. Can root but not much else at moment. I do like this one and the original. I like the fact you can reply to text and answer calls. Not sure how much support this will get.
Android wear. Seems to me to take full advantage you need to use Google now and I don't. I find it really drains my battery.
I'm still reading up on android vs tizen.
Am I looking at these the correct way? So far I prefer gear/gear 2 over android wear. Anyone have any input or correct anything I may have said that is wrong?

My thoughts are. You can buy a gear for $99 which i did it has a camera and i can answer phone calls with it.. what do i use it for? Well firstly as a watch second to see my calendar, step counter, i use as a phone dialer for me its quicker to find a contract and dial then pickup the phone rather than pickup phone unlock dial etc. I can't see myself talking into my watch just seems odd. As for Google wear more apps / better apps but twice the cost and not sure i can read exchange email on it.

I tend to agree with phil999, I have owned the original Gear since it rolled out. Answering calls on my watch has come in handy on a weekly basis. I don't usually initiate calls, but I am constantly grabbing a call when my phone is stuck in my pocket or sitting on my desk in another room. I use voice activation to both initiate and reply to text. Full exchange email viewing is great at work. For $99 you can not go wrong.
I was excited by the Android Wear watches as they were announce and info started leaking. Now that they are out and have initial reviews I am holding off on picking one up. I like the always on (this is a must in my opinion for a smart watch and sorely missing from the Gear), plus the way it integrates with Google Now. I myself don't use Google Now anymore as I did not get much value out of it, I know others do. There will certainly be a lot of Apps that start becoming AW capable, so I think in the next several months the list of apps will quickly outpace the relative meager list of apps we have for the Gear.
I dont know why Samsung did not just take the Gear 2 or Neo and turn it into the Live. I think the hardware (Camera/IR/Speaker) would have been a big hit for the AW platform. The way Sammy is pumping out smart watches it may be advisable to wait for the Live 2 as it will address feedback they receive on the Live 1.
So my advice is get something. $99 for a Gear 1 is a great way to experience your first smart watch. If you use and like Google Now, then grab a Gear Live. It does that slickly on your wrist and there is surely a ton of apps that will soon be compatible with it.

This is exactly what I did. I got a Gear 1 on SlickDeals (Refurb) for $99 and it just arrived yesterday. I will be honest though, it was HELL trying to get Tizen to connect to my Note 2 running Nebula but I finally got it running today. I really like Tizen even though it has less apps than Android. But be honest with yourself, how many apps are you going to use on a 2 inch screen? With Tizen you can check ALL your notifications as well as answer calls...plus take a quick picture...I can't tell you how many times something was happening & I wanted a pic of it but by the time I got my phone out it was too late.
I think $300 is too much for a smartwatch. I know some drop more than that on a regular watch, but considering you can get a high end phone on contract for less than that (or a Google phone for just over that) I think they are over priced.
First, decide what you plan on using the watch for. I bought mine on a whim when I saw the deal on SlickDeals. But I can see where it will come in handy now that I have it.
Edit

I want to thank all of you for taking the time to answer and give me your opinions. I greatly appreciate it. After reading I think your all right. I'm gonna look into the gear. I don't really use Google now at all. Tried for a few days. Didn't care for it and drained my battery. The main things i would like to do is receive notifications, reply to text, i guess with svoice, and i think answering calls would come in handy. I see the gear can also be rooted if I wanted to which I guess is a plus. I'm assuming most are running with stock TW? That will be the toughest thing..running TW. Been running custom ROMs forever. But sounds like it will be worth it.

If you want notifications you're going to have to update to Tizen. Stock, the Gear only let's you read notifications from the stock Samsung apps. So if you use Gmail or Handsent it will only let you know you have a message but you can't read it on the Gear. Tizen lets you choose what apps will notify you & you can read the notification on the watch...

I ran the Null Roms for a long time. Still miss the ability to run any launcher and customize everything, but I gave Tizen a shot about a month ago. I am happy with Tizen, functional, smooth, longer battery life, and it does what I need. With Null I could use the watch as a small full android device. I have come to realize that I want my watch to be an extension of android for notifications and convenience.
To be honest I have been wearing a Qualcomm Toq, I picked up on ebay for $100 for the past 3 weeks. I can voice respond to text, but with no speaker I cant answer calls on the watch. I can select answer call, but it answers on the phone (this does give me time to stand up and dig it out of my pocket). The always on and 4-5 day battery life plus wireless charging help to offset the one missing feature.
When one of the manufacturers puts a low power color display (Mirasol) on a Gear 1 / Gear 2 type hardware platform it will be the type of smart watch I am looking for.

I have been reading about Null and it does sound very cool. But after reading your response I think your right. I just want the watch the be an extension. The only draw back i guess is your kind of stuck with certain Samsung phones. I was reading a thread about getting it to work with other devices but seemed to be hit and miss. Im gonna go check out the watches again. If I was able to get the watch to work with a custom ROM and still have the features I need it would be a huge plus. Maybe I'll grab one and try it out.

AT&T Note 4 - connecting to the VR does nothing...

I checked to see if I could uninstall the apps from my downloaded apps but that's not an option either. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?
Me too. Just bought one off eBay. Connected Gear vr and nothing happens. Factory reset my Note 4. Manually installed gear vr and still nothing. Thinking of rolling back to kitkat to see if it works.
Yeah I don't want to have to do all that. Seems silly that there would be any issues with this
Sent from my Note 4
Found out you won't be able to use Gear vr on Kitkat. It forces you to upgrade to lollipop in order to use the Oculus app.
Ah OK. I just spoke with at&t and they were of no help. Samsung's support page says call carrier if it isn't working. Bs. Can't find any info online about it either besides that people were having issues on Verizon last year and needed an update. I'm just going to return the thing this weekend if I can't figure it out
Sent from my Note 4
I may have to do the same thing if I can't figure anything out. And buy a decent pair of goggles that work with Google cardboard. At least I could use that pair with any handset.
Yeah that was my origjnal plan and then convinced myself to get this. It's a bummer really

This is going to sound silly but I got it working. Even though I thought the phone was fully connected it wasn't. Be sure to push it till you can't see the connector.

Woo. I think I got it. All I did was pushed it down firmly in and it worked.

Screen tearing issue inevitable?

I am currently wearing my 4th OG Pebble.
4th.
I have had the screen tearing issue come up on every one, and every one was faithfully replaced by Pebble, which is nice. My first three I wore in the shower and in the pool, per the various ads I saw where people showered and swam with it, and my wife was like dude, quit wearing it in the water. So my latest warranty replacement has never been wet. The last two days, I've had the screen thing again.
Again.
I can't afford a Pebble Time at the moment, or I would go that direction in the hopes that they figured it out.
I know that there is a solution involving taking the watch apart and placing a small plastic shim inside; has anyone done this successfully, did it work, how difficult is it REALLY, and what kind/size shim did you use?
Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
OMG! I hate this problem. Happens on mine all the time. I had a friend tell me it doesn't happen if you use the stock watchfaces. I've notice it actually does happen more on certain watchfaces for some reason. I've never tried the repair trick. Switching watchfaces HAS helped a bit though. Which makes me think, is it really a software issue?
I don't know about inevitable, but given that the reason is a hardware connector, that's probably likely. Water has nothing to do with it at all. All four of the Pebbles we own with the old style connector have been wet numerous times with no harm.
I can't speak for everyone's use but my wife and I have 1 OG Pebble and 3 Pebble Steels between us.
I only use the OG Pebble for working out and I turn it off between workouts. It has never had a screen tearing issue. It's the screwback later model of the OG.
My wife's Brushed Silver Pebble Steel, which was pre-ordered on announcement day, has never had a screen tearing issue.
My original Matte Black Pebble Steel, ordered on announcement day as well, did have the screen tearing issue and Pebble quickly RMA'd it and told me to keep it as well as the new one. The warranty replacement (I was actually a couple of months out of warranty) has never had the screen tearing issue.
Since it was already broken/spare I did attempt the business card shim fix on my original Matte Black and it has worked beautifully. Since my brother wanted to see if he would use a smartwatch, I lent the repaired one to him to wear during his paramedic clinicals and he hasn't seen any screen tearing at all while exposing it to God knows what. It was an extremely easy fix. I followed this youtube tutorial https://youtu.be/c-3pfh-bx_w and it was spot on.
If you have the screwback version of the OG Pebble then the fix is pretty straightforward. If you have the glued together version then you're probably better off buying another one if you want to keep using Pebble.
If any of our other three watches did start having screen tearing I feel 100% confident the shim fix would correct the issue entirely.
Worked like a charm! Thanks,

Glad that worked for you. Pebble has always been great at RMAing my messed up Pebbles. I too had the 4th one start to go so I emailed them. They said they'd replace it but I inquired about testing a beta with new hardware or seeing if there was something else they could do. I also asked for a phone number to speak to someone about it. They replied that they do not have a phone system and there are no betas of the OG Pebble but did offer me a Pebble Time. I took their offer even though I liked the OG Pebble firmware. Its worth a try if you are still having troubles down the road. Good luck.

I'll just re-iterate that they took back my used Pebble Steel (RMA) and sent me brand new one and it hasn't torn yet. So, great support and us early folk have that tearing a possibility at any time
Side note-I can't get it to pair with my vs985 any more (kinda makes it useless). It's likely something with the new CM13-based ROM AND my phone (same Rom - OctM pairs fine with my Nexus 7). I'm now seeing the LE radio and the standard from the Pebble and CM13 doesn't like to pair with the regular. I'm going to do some searching today to see if there's a fix.
Pebbles!
FWIW, my Kickstarter Edition Pebble is still holding up just fine after daily use for close to two years now (I got it used). That said, a Pebble Steel I was recently working on from 2015 did have the issue. Seems like they got it right at first and then forgot how.

Cyanogenmod Roms used to have issues with being finicky when it comes to Bluetooth, so that kind of behavior wouldn't necessarily surprise me.
I didn't think it was the Pebble. Thanks for noting it for others!

Possible to install new bought pebble?

Hi,
I'm still using my Pebble black (so the first version of the Pebbles) and I have big problems with the screen tearing issue. It is my 3rd Pebble (I go RMA'd the first two) and shortly before the company was bought from fitbit they said they would send me another RMA. Unforunately it never arrived so I'm still using the broken one and it is driving me crazy.
Because of that I'm considering to buy a used Pebble Time or something newer (which does not have the tearing problem). And there is my question:
Is it still possible to install a new pebble and pair it with my phone? I have the Pebble App still installed so it would only be about the pairing? Is this correct?
I don't want to buy a pebble and see afterwards that I can not pair and use it.
Does anyone has experience with that?
Thanks!
Yes Pebble is fully operational, I've bought 2 of them after the fitbit acquisition and all went well!

Using a new Pebble Time I bought from Amazon UK for £50 a week or so back and have no issues at all. The app works fine and the weather service etc. still works at this point.
I'm now considering selling my Gear S2 as the vibration intensity is rubbish so I'm still missing half the notifications which defeats the point of me having bought it in the first place. I don't have that problem with the Pebble, proper powerful vibrations.
Agreed. I just bought two new Pebble Time Steel watches for me and my wife, and they both installed, upgraded, and synced without issue. Just be aware that the current understanding is that FitBit will not support Pebble smartwatches after 2017. What this specifically means is unknown. Speculations range from continued, but limited support, to complete a server shutdown. I've been playing with GadgetBridge with varying levels of success, so I'm hoping that despite its takedown, further development will continue. Time will tell.
The latest update to the Pebble App reads:
We’ve updated our Android app to preserve the Pebble smartwatch experience and remove the dependence on cloud services.
The app lets Pebble devices keep working, even if online servers are not accessible for any reason. The login process can be skipped, apps can be side-loaded, and the latest watch firmware (including language packs) can be installed.

Hi, im thinking about buying a Pebble Time, but the thing is that i'm worried with all that noise from FitBit about shutting down the servers.
How does that affect me buying the watch now ? I'll be no longer able to use diferent watch faces than the ones available in the app ? or what specifically ?
I've been doing some research but i can't find anywhere nothing kind of certain about the effect of this. The price is awesome right now, so i'm very tempted. But living outside the US make's this kind of dificult to deside.
Thanks in advanced and regards!.

Yes, but is it know if after the servers are down, will we be able to check the weather, and other kind of stuff more than just notifications from the phone ? Does those things depend on the Pebble Server ?
Or it will only be just the phone notifications, the time, and nothing else ?.
Thanks!
