As long as the ROM is based off of stock Sony firmware you are good. Look for the "LB" (lockedbootloader) tag withing the ROM title, and you should also see instructions if you have a LB.

I can't remember what t-mobile firmware I was on (6 months ago) when I rooted, but I know I used a @DooMLoRD method...I think this one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386405)
You can always use flashtool to install a generic .67 FTF, then root and install recovery. This is the safest way to go, but you will lose t-mobile specific functions like wifi calling, but also t-mobile bloat. If you are looking to install a custom stock ROM then you will be losing these functions anyways.
Just make sure you get the latest flashtool and drivers - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2635830.
EDIT: Actually I believe I used this method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327472) to root as I was on the .166 firmware. The method above is what you want as .67 is what you'll need if making the jump to 4.3.
I just rooted my Xperia Z (C6606) last night, and now this morning I notice my xperia is downloading a new update. I'm not new to the scene with rooting, I'm sure it will break my root, is there a root method for this new update?
It most likely break root if successful or fail to update.

I'm in the same boat... I noticed the new update this morning. I'm wondering if SuperSU Pro w/ survival mode enabled will preserve root. Haven't tried it yet...
I thought as much, guess I won't update then, unless there is a method to root the new update

I loaded the update and lost my root access. Trying to find an updated root process now that will work with the 10.4.C.0.814 version. Very frustrating that I can't simply post in the thread for the previous version of root to ask for an update.
TMo? An update? What android version?
If you want root you will have to go back to 4.2.2 and root it again then flash a pre rooted stock based ROM.
Usually an update kills root.

It's not an Android update. It's updates to some of the Sony applications and I think some UI tweaks. According to T-Mobile, Sony has not released an update to the phone beyond 4.2.2. Ha.
I researched it after the question. Its apparently 4.3 as said in other sources. TMo cant document did their life.

On the Sony website they say that the build number and the jellybean are updated to 4.3 instead of the 4.2.2.
Just look up the model number on sony mobile

Flash the ROM in the recovery console, such as TWRP then flash the kernel with FlashTool. Many of the threads in the dev section do a good job of quickly running through the steps.
I used NUT's 4.4.2 pre-rooted ROM.

Does anyone know if TMobile brand Sony Xperia Z able to flash the other ROMs. I know it's BL and will lose TMO Wifi call function. But TMO stop at 4.3, and I cant see any hope for 4.4, 5.0. Is possible to flash other ROMs? Thank you.
Yes, you can.

WIFI calling function will not work ofcourse but if you are not satisfied you can flash stock firmware anyday using XPERIA FLASH TOOL. You need to unlock the bootloader using official Sony Method. If you can unlock the BL which I was able to.
Then you can download and install Cyanogenmod 13,12,11,10. (C6603) - Yes, it has issues, so I switched to.
SlimKat 4.4.4 - YUGA (C6606) - NO BUGS AT ALL.
Also do remember to flash SGAPPS from their repository no the opengapp.org gapps.
Big difference I found is that Stock OS on new flash takes around 500-700MBs of RAM where SlimKAT takes only 350MB w/o GAPPS and 500MBs GAPPS.
Good luck! I will show you screenshots

The official tutorial is over here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWPYicb8_-Q
I guess that means there's still no way if your C6606 says "Bootloader unlock allowed: NO".
After enduring the crap that is lollipop & even trying as a beta tester, the new Marshmallow, I've come to the conclusion that Android KK 4.4 was the best of the lot, but how to get it back onto my unrooted no carrier, unlocked UK spec phone?

Grab my dual sim stock firmware version from the TWRP thread and flash it with newflasher v13.
It will wipe/factory reset your userdata.
But that is needed or you will receive a bootloop.
