Can owners of the Galaxy Tab wifi-only version (P1010) please install Quadrant and make a screen shot of the "System Information" (see attached file, example for Moto Xoom) showing the CPU and GPU?
There are rumors that the wifi-only version use a different chip (OMAP 3630) from the original GT (Samsung Hummingbird). In quadrant's "System Information", even if the CPU name is not listed, the GPU name should be listed - if it is the same as the original GT it should be PowerVR SGX540; if it is OMAP 3630 it will be SGX530.
Time to settle some rumors once and for all. Thank you for your contribution.

It's PowerVR SGX530!
Is this the OMAP 3630?
Even a total noob like me can guess that "Cores:1" can't be good.

It's not like the P1000 has two of them, you know. Plus, the tab plays full hd video while the Tegra 2 can't go above 720p.

I am getting one of these in the next week or so, but if I understand correctly then the wifi only version isnt quite as quick?

Thanks for the topic as I was also looking into getting the WiFi only tab...will now be looking at the GSM version, ATT or TMOBILE (that one is cheaper) or the 8.9"...when it comes out.

Don't know where you're hearing this from. I haven't noticed any lag at all. It seems perfectly responsive to me.

I have the original GTab (T-Mobile version) but not the wifi-only (P1010) version. However, I have an Archos 70 tablet that uses the OMAP3630 chip with the SGX530 gpu. It may be comparing orange with grapefruit but this is better than nothing.
The Archos plays downloaded HD video using their media player quite smoothly. However (1) the Archos screen is only 800 x 480 resolution, meaning it is less stressful for a weaker gpu (2) they probably have some form of hardware acceleration for their media player.
The problem comes when you try to watch online streaming video using Adobe Flash in the web browsers (NOTE: NOT through youtube app which compresses the video stream). It can play standard definition (SD, 360p) video but sometimes show stuttering (eg. just before the embedded ads show up). Anything higher (480p or +) causes major stutters and hangs. NOTE: the Archos has a low res. screen (800 x 480) and the SGX530 gpu is already struggling.
When I use my GTab, 360p SD Flash videos in the browser plays smoothly without any problem. It can manage many 480p Flash videos (youtube automatically bumps up the video resolution to 480p when you go full screen). NOTE: the GTab has a higher resolution (1024 x 600) screen, and the SGX540 gpu is able to keep up with it.
My main concern is the pairing of the weaker SGX530 gpu with the "higher" screen resolution of 1024 x 600 in the P1010 may not be a happy marriage!
Any higher res. Flash videos are not possible - and I don't think any single core ARM processors can manage true HD (720p or higher) Flash videos, because these processors were originally designed for smartphones with small low res. screens!
With the original GTab version, you will probably get a faster and smoother user experience eg. swiping through the screens, screen animation / transition, typing on the keyboard. This is because tablets use the touchscreen exclusively for user input, which involves the gpu all the time.
P.S. I rooted my GTab and applied the One Click Lag Fix immediately after unboxing, and it is truely flying! Quadrant about 2200.
Great input, I now see a TMO 3G TAB in my near future ;-)

I only have 720 Quadrant points with my euro p1010 wifi only rooted with Z4root, is that normal?
Ps: sorry for my bad english
Don't buy the wifi version if you expect it to play HD video.
YouTube HQ (480x360) plays smoothly.
Other features are much more responsive than Archos 70 (I have both Grab wifi and Archie 70).

Find "OCLF" (OneClickLagFix) in Android Market. I dunno if it will work on the P1010 but it is worth a try.
Run the app and press "install ext2 tools". If this button is red or it fails to install, you are out of luck.
After this, see which "OneClickLagFix" button (v1, v2, v2.2) is green and choose the NEWEST version. If one version fails, try another one (with green button). If all buttons are in red or if all available versions fail, you are out of luck.
P.S. Before I run Quadrant, I close all unnecessary apps in the background (eg. Weather, Twitter, antivirus). This make sure all possible processing power is used to run the benchmark. Before I used OCLF my Quadrant score (original GTab) was about 1100.

I also apply one click lag fix. Though the score jumps from 6xx to 16xx, I don't think we can trust Quadrant score test after OCLF. Reason: you can see the Database read/write test is so quick as if it did nothing. Before applying lagfix Database write test tooks around 20 seconds, but after lagfix, it looks like it did nothing on the database test.
I found original Grab wifi is already so much responsive even very low quadrant score. Archos 70 has double the gtab wifi quadrant score, but much less responsive.

Just to confirm OCLF works with p1010. The process was smooth; but I'm still doubt on performance gain. I can't discern the differences.

For those of you that already have your handsets, how has your experience been with the performance of 3D games and more intensive emulators? Have there been any games that have shown noticeable choppiness or sluggishness?
Edit: I read in another thread that Real Racing is giving Snapdragon owners problems. Also - I'm a bit curious as to how PPSSPP is treating people.
I have no issues running epsxe with open gl and all setting at maximum. Playing ff9 atm. Emulators shouldn't be an issue.
I just play Asphalt 8 on my Note 4 Exynos and it gets around 60fps at max settings.
I try few 3D games in my Exynos N910C include Real Racing 3 and Death Trigger 2. So far so great. No issue.

Could you post gamebench prints of the performance on some games?
Another gamebench video (exynos)
My device is finally here and it performs great (Exynos - C version)! But it gets warm (just warm no hot) fast and the throttle is very strong!! My Antutu after playing minion rush for 10 minutes was 35k and after a lot of gaming my GFX T-rex on-screen was 8 and off screen was 16. With the phone unused I got 25 and 37 fps for each of them. It is hot here (28C = 82F) but this throttle is too powerful! I'd rather have the phone getting hotter with better performance. Don't know if that would be possible.
The Galaxy Note 4 has a terrible 3d performance, i imagine it is because it is rendering at 1440, my HTC One M7 did far better at 1080. A few games that are jittery messes are anything GTA and also Gangstar, not impressed at all. Perhaps somebody will hack it so that it renders at a lower resolution, because really the snapdragon 805 is not up to intense 3d games at native resolution.
I have better gaming experience in Asphalt 8 with the Note 4 Exynos+1440p than with my Note 3 Qualcomm+1080p.

I'm using NOMone Resolution Changer to set display to 1080p to play games. When you change the resolution everything looks wrong (big icons and etc) but the games are actually perfect but less pixels to push so better performance. If you are rooted and mind gaming performance, this is a must have.
Just curious - since this is the one thing that might make me change my mind about not rooting my phone - Does NOMone Resolution Changer know to automatically change the resolution only when a game is specifically opened? Or do you need to change the resolution first - and then start the game?
For the guy saying that GTA is stuttery.. its nothing to do with the resolution. Its all to do with heat and the Samsung DVFS voltage and frequency control.
With DVFS enabled after a few mins of GTA it slows down a little bit and starts to get stuttery because it throttles too easy and underclocks the CPU and GPU by about half.
If your rooted and disable DVFS you get the full GPU and CPU speed in games like GTA vice city and its extremely fluid.

Second option unfortunately. If you find an application that does that, please tell me. I didn't look for it though as NOMone is working great and I'm a bit afraid of messing with the resolution too much.
Just got myself an exynos note 4. Very nice phone but aside from a little touchwiz stutter, games such as real racing 3 and clash of clans stutter. My nexus 4 ran them fine. Did a quick antutu benchmark to see whats up and this is what i got without flight mode on. What do you think? Benchmarks say my phone should handle them with ease but thats not the case. Anyone with a solution?

Probably some rogue app you got running. Reset like he said or restart. No stutter on this old games so no fix required. Emulators have been good tho getting over 30fps in a few n64 games mupen64 that have tried, dolphin still not the best speed. DraStic was made for the note line. Runs awesome with each game I have.
Has to be coc related. I read a few reviews on the play store from note 4 users who have seen this as well. Much more demanding games are running great so ill just wait on an update.

I tried s6 in store. There isnt much difference with note 4 lollipop. There is some small changes could be good for note 4 too. Like some buttons moved down tabs button on browser and all buttons in gallery etc.
In performance i saw no difference even s6 had stutters on animations. And they say camera launch very fast but it was pretty same with my exynos note 4.in night mode s6 is faster it was all.
And there is no multitasking button lag. Note 4 still has initial 0.5 sec delay if its your 1st press for while but later than if you keep spamming on both it was same speed app switches was faster on note 4.
And it was heating alot.(it wasnt on charge) dunno but it didnt feel very fast it was nearly identical with my exynos note 4.

I guess it all depends on what apps are running already in the background. I've found on my Note 4 that a number of apps auto restart in the background which slows down the CPU performance. Sadly the only way to control apps restarting or refreshing in the background is to root and if you've just bought your phone, you're unlikely to want to root your phone and void the warranty.
I'm just hoping for a smoother feel. The new s6 TouchWiz was tested on the snapdragon chip but Samsung used their own chip like you said. This is a little worrying in respect of all previous models with snapdragon chips. Just have to wait and see I guess.

Background apps there for s6 too you cant avoid it. I dont see any slowdowns on my exynos note 4 lollipop. Dont expect alot of difference if you dont like current lollipop on note 4. Cuz s6 and note 4 was very similar on my test.
The animations on the S6 are smoother and better looking overall I don't get how people can't see them lol...From my point of view it does look really fast and better than the current Lollipop build on our Note 4 devices.Let's hope we get the new UI it would really benefit the note 4.

Well they are not, even it has animation stutters. Better looking maybe but definetly not smoother tried on like 4 different phones all had stutters generally. It's not the fact that I don't like lollipop on the Note 4, clearly we have to wait for the final release of 5.0.1 or even 5.0.2. The current versions are test versions and are not final. When the full roll out comes for the Note 4, we'll get a better comparison. Also the two phones use different chips so if you've got an exynos Note 4 then you have a better comparison to the s6 in terms of being in a level playing field. The hope is that the release of 5.1 on the Note 4 in Q2/Q3 will fix or reduce the stutter when opening apps.
One particular one I find takes a while is YouTube. On the s6, it opens up a lot faster.
Watch this YouTube video. Granted it's comparison of s5 vs s6 but the Note 4 lollipop vs s6 lollipop will be up soon over the next few months once the s6 is released and the Note 4 has its lollipop release. The video shows the lag on the s5, which is almost certainly a snapdragon version, against the exynos s6.

youtube is broken by itself dont really say alot. but no doubt its faster than s5 there is a huge cpu difference. yes exynos note 4 is better rival for it. my note edge didnt get lollipop yet so i cant do a fair comparison but note 4 exynos on lollipop is very smooth no stutter etc.. and i think rollout for 910c started too its almost done.
snapdragon versions could need 5.1 update which fixed alot of performance problems for nexus 6 too. but we will see.

Hmm not sure, but I'm guessing it's due to the different SoC? Not sure if true or not, but I had read once that the Snapdragon was slightly better for 3d graphics while the exynos was slightly better for multitasking and battery life. That could potentially explain it, but it could also just be something coded wrong in the app itself (it's beta) that might get fixed in a future update. Speculation only of course
Its the same with PUBG mobile. Snapdragon variant can play HDR and Ultra Frame rate (40fps) while exynos only Hd and high. (30fps). I dont know why the do that to similar devices.

Probably because of the different SoC.
you can play pubg on 60fps there is an app called gfx tools in playstore. you can select hdr but it really heats up the phone and i couldnt really get a good fps with it. kernel keeps lowering cpu speed even though dvfs is disabled. but low graphics on 60fps is very nice.

It's disappointing that the Exynos variant currently is stuck on Medium while the Snapdragon one reaches Epic. I know there's a performance difference, but it's not supposed to be THAT big.
Hopefully, Epic will improve performance.
Hello
I have upgraded my Tab S7 to Tab S8. And I have expected new device be much faster and smoother, but what I found that games are really lagging! It was perfectly smooth on S7 but not on S8. Game mode does not help much. I do not play a log of games on this tablet as I used it mostly for developement, but I do play Harry Potter Puzzle and Spells and this game lags pretty bad on S8.
What can be done to fix it or should I wait for Samsung to release update? I do know about Samsung's throttling on S8 devices but I never expect it to be that bad.
And in addition (don't want to open another thread) it seems that S8 has more aggressive memory settings because it unloads apps from memory over time. Which never happened on S7. S8 has more memory and I think it should keep more opened apps, not reloading them. And yes, settings in developer section (do not keep activities) is not enabled

This has to do to android 12, s7 was only on android 11, but also is on 12 now. So then it automatically puts apps into deep sleep. You can remove that under battery settings area and remove apps from deep sleep mode.
About lagging it might be new game mode from samsung since apparently samsung did on purpose limit hardware but added a settings into app that let's you gain more performance in games. Should be in game engine or w.e name is and then settings and then Labs and enable experimental feature there that should boost performance and stop limit the hardware for game.
When I replaces S7 it was already on Android 12 but I never observed such behavior. Anyway, I have put game into never sleep list. As about lags, unfortunately I found no options for that

I was noticing this particular with emulation since I don't play many native android games. When playing Sonic Colors at native res on my Tab S7+, it would almost never go below 30fps in level, and almost never below 60fps in the hub and menus. However, when I tried doing the same on the S8+, I had a bunch of stuttering and performance issues no matter what version of dolphin I used. There was a workaround to this (at least for me). These issues only happened when I restored my data to my new S8+ with Smart Switch, but when I just put all my data and stuff on there manually, the issues seemingly stopped happening. The only game I throttle in is Fortnite, which didn't have the 90fps option even though the S7+ did. The game still didn't feel much different before and after the throttle, still pretty consistent framerates overall.
Edit: Just fixing typos.

Did you used cloud backup or restored through cable or it's the same thing? I have similar problem, but with benchmark results. My device can't get even average model score in 3DMark (about 2 to 8%). Geekbench scores are worse than snapdragon 865 devices. I don't know what's going on. I already tried to reflash stock rom with odin, but that didn't help. Hopefully not using cloud backup will help.

I initially restored with a cable, but once I started getting shawty performance, I made a backup on my sd card and restored it from there with Smart Switch. I never used cloud backup since that takes a lot of time for me. After getting suboptimal results with both, I just bit the bullet and slowly started adding everything and getting it to how it was on my old devices. Only then did I get getting substatiall better results. Now I can run a lot of Wii/GC/3DS/PS2 games at 1.5x, 2x, and sometimes even 3x without getting throttled. Not sure why using smart switch tanked my performance, but all I know is that it's not tanking now.
Thats interesting. Because I also moved data using cable. I do not know how good is cloud since I never did it before (only on Apple devices).
I might try to fully format tablet and test it again.
Will provide more information later

I tried formatting few days ago, and that didn't help. At least for me this problem is not related to Smart Switch. Do you also have bad benchmark scores? I understand that benchmarks are not very good indicator of performance (especially due to GOS), but I expect to have at least average SD8gen1 performance, not the level of SD855.
Did reset to factory settings. It is much better at least for now. Benchmark - tested only Geekbench 5. Result the same
Hi.. I'm experiencing the same problem here.. any updates regarding this problem? My geekbench score can't even surpass an exynos 2100.. it only achieve around 700ish on single core.. the first time I notice this is when I tried playing granturismo with aethersx2.. and it can't even handle the 1x reso.. hhhh.. really frustrated here.. please kindly share any clues regarding this topic thanks in advance.. sorry not a native English speaker
I had same problem, but, i solved using this:
ADB AppControl 1.7.5
(disable all game service (i'm not remember how many)). For me it's work great
--edit
i disabled bixdy and others apps too
First.. thank you for the answer! Might try it out later..
So it's like disabling the "GOS" right? Is it different from the "alternate game performance" option in game booster? They said it's the "official" way to disable the GOS.. but yeah I didn't find any difference after enabling that option though... Hmm..
Hmm...also.. What makes me wonder is.. I saw some reviewers review this device without any tweaking needed and they could achieve a 8gen1'ish results in benchmarks.. and also if you know ETA prime on YouTube.. he reviewed a tab s8 ultra and is able to run a granturismo 4 with aethersx2 (ps2 emulator) in 3x reso in default settings with no problems... I know it's a different device but it's supposed to have a same Chip right?
All of this things makes me frustrated because it was not what i expected from a 8gen1 device.. moreover I saw a sd870 device could run the granturismo 4 in the same settings with no problems.. it really broke my heart..
The issue mainly lies in the SOC.
Even though, SD8 Gen 1 has a much higher peak performance, especially in GPU, it can't sustain that performance due to excesive power consumption which results in thermal throttling.
GOS is another thing that affects the whole experience, it's limiting the performance of the device.

Yeah.. I think this is mainly what cause the problem.. The 8gen1 itself..
a quick update regarding this from me..
I've done some re-test in benchmark and real game perfomance but this time im doing it in a well conditioned (cooled) room..
previously I was doing the test and gaming and in a room without any Air Conditioner and I lived in a tropical country which is really hot and humid...
the benchmark results (3d wildlife) came out Nice in a well cooled room, It scores what most of Tab S8 would score and the real life perfomance (PS2 emulator) is also improved..
it manages to handle GranTurismo 4 in aethersx2 with 3x reso on safe setting quite well..
the CPU temperature is well managed in around 35'ish Celcius compared to 45'ish when not using any air conditioner...

CPU temperature 35 Celsius degrees? Are you talking about an ABSOLUTE idle? Because even if you would put a bag of ice on the TAB it wouldn't sit that low under usage. Even small loads will put the CPU around 50-60 Celsius degrees. Under heavy load up to 85-90 till the thermal throttle hits in.
Also, that ONE wildlife mark test doesn't do much. The idea is stability, better known as SUSTAINED performance, and that's where SD8 Gen 1 ****s itself. Try running a Wildlife standard stress test (20-minute loop) and post the screenshot, you'll see what I mean.

I only saw the perf-z indicator from samsung though.. so yeah.. i know i might just straight up wrong about this I just straight saying what I saw.. and honestly I'm not an expert in this.. just a mere consumer..
Yeah I got you.. it goes downhill even after the first one.. what I'm trying to say was that I never reach that score before in warm room so yeah it's mainly the CPU problem..
What mainly being my concern before was I'm scared that I got scammed with a fake/unoriginal/refurbished tab s8.....
Harry Potter plays fluently on Tab S8 Plus here.
I have sent my S8 to my mom and bought S8 plus. Did not restore, set it up from scratch. No lagging in games, including HP. So, it could be related to thermal soliton in S8 plus as it is bigger

Yes you have to run 4 adb Commands that also disables game booster and game launcher then GOS will stay disabled even after restart. I've done this and turn ram plus off. I also disabled or put into deep sleep all of the bs apps. I also went to advance features and turned off all of everything causes I don't use the s-pen so no need for air actions and stuff to be on. If you want the ADB commands let me know.
