[Q] GPE 5.0.1 back to Sense with RUU? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'd like convert my HTC One M7 5.0.1 back to Sense. Is this possible using an RUU file. What are the steps involved?

Done it a few times. Depends on your CID, I changed mine to supercid so that I can use most regions.
Change hboot to 1.44 (not 100% sure if is a must or not but I do!)
Flash Sense ruu with fastboot. You might need an old Jellybean release first.
Flash custom recovery
flash root (supersu or whatever)
Flash custom rom to upgrade to Kitkat or stock rom
Flash latest firmware to update radio etc.
That's pretty much it.

I just wanted to say thank you. I didn't realize it but I thought I could flash any RUU for any carrier so long as I had the correct CID. Turns out you can't do that as the firmware and etc are different for each carrier. I bought a TELUS carrier HTC ONE but it was unlocked and I use on Rogers. I needed the Stock ROM RUU for Telus. Worked like a charm.
Thanks again

[Q] Do I actually need to upgrade firmware/radio etc?

Hi All,
I have the M7 UL with a CID of HTC__001, it has hboot 1.44 s-off and I want to know if I really need to update the firmware/radio at all? I believe the current firmware is that of the 1.29.401.1 and since this was from the time of the Android 4.1.2 ROM and I am running a custom 4.3 ROM, I'm not sure what to do. I'm, not actually having any problems, so is it really necessary?
If so, do I need to upgrade hboot as well or can I get newer firmware/radio while keeping hboot 1.44 ?

At this point in time, you don't NEED to upgrade firmware, but there COULD be benefits such as the updated touchscreen drivers.
And since you're s-off, you can flash new firmware(s) including updated hboot, and still be able to downgrade anytime you choose.
Updating firmware or hboot will not change your s-off status, and therefore allow you to downgrade at your choice.

Ive got a quick question regarding this, is firmware ROM dependent - i.e does it matter if im on the 4.3 Sense ROM or the 4.3 Play ROM to flash the 4.3 Firmware?

Nope. Like I said, currently the ROMs are firmware independent. This could change in the future, but for now it doesn't matter.

Thanks again for the help, I have another question about firmware flashing. I want to flash the latest firmware.zip on my HTC one and I'm already S-OFF. Can I just do this in TWRP and can I do it anytime or do I need to do it before I flash a ROM?

Firmware needs to be flashed in fastboot.
"fastboot oem rebootRUU"
"fastboot flash zip firmware.zip"
"fastboot flash zip firmware.zip"
(Yes, twice)
Be sure to check an make sure everything was successful.
"fastboot reboot"

Thanks, but I read somewhere that you need to flash firmware and then flash a ROM? Is that true?
Also whats the worst thing that could happen if I messed something up, could I just restore a nandroid?

The worst thing that could happen is a brick-- but that's unlikely.
Nandroids don't backup/restore firmware.
I'd recommend NOT updating hboot.img, or sbl??.img when updating firmware.
Only include these in firmware.zip: android-info.txt, adsp.img, radio.img, rcdata.img, tp_SYN3302.img, rpm.img and tz.img.
These get you (in order) the DSP, radio, radio config data, touch pad driver, and some misc stuff (rpm and tz).

Stock Android 4.3 Rom update?

Hello! I flashed the stock google play edition 4.3 rom on my HTC One. My old rom was the stock htc sense 5.0 which I got with the phone. What I want to know is that will I receive updates automatically from my phone if 4.4 comes out on HTC One when it is released and that etc... Because I'm scared I'll need to do it via PC. Basically, if you still don't understand, on my HTC One when I first got it, I could perform a software update from the phone, can I do that with the stock Google play edition rom 4.3 if an update comes out from my phone or do I need to do it through my computer? Thanks in advance!

If you do not have stock recovery, you will not get OTA's. If your bootloader is unlocked, you won't get OTA's. If your CID and MID don't match that of the GPe device, you won't get OTA's while you're running a GPe build.
To get OTA's, your CID and MID must match with the version of software you're running (if you have an ATT CID, MID, and stock build, you have stock recovery and your bootloader is locked you will get ATT OTAs - OR you changed your CID and MID to that of the GPe device, and you're running a stock GPe build with stock recovery and locked bootloader and you will get GPe OTAs)

Pardon me for my lack of intellience and ignorance, but what the hell is that? I know OTA is over the air, but what is CID and MID and how do I know if they match? All I know is that I have a stock recovery but my bootloader is unlocked. Do I lock it and I just get OTAs or do I need to do something else? I'm super confused at this moment of time. Please feed me with more of your knowledge! How'd I find out the CID and MID?
EDIT: Also, how do I check my GPe to see if it the same as the CID or MID? Please, I don't want to go online and do it via a zip file etc.. I just want to update OTA!

Back to sense from 4.4

Hello guys, I tried the new GPE 4.4 rom flashing the RUU, and I am pretty disappointed on this update...so I decided to return back to sense...
1) A 4.3 sense 5.5 RUU zip would be great, I searched for it but I can't find nothing, anyone?
2) OR...what if I flash a sense rom on top of the 3.58 GPE firmware? is this correct to do? have I got to flash the radio?
3) OR, again...if there is no RUU and I can't flash a sense rom with radio on KK fw, I think I have to flash 3.62 fw with radio and a rom...no?
I like clean things, because of this I ask for a RUU, is better wipe everything and clean flash...all in one and ready to go...thanks in advance!
Cheers

The firmware and radio is mainly for stability issues and some optimizations. if your device is s-OFF you can flash new roms doesn't matter if they are sense 5.5 or aosp or gpe editions. If you want to return back to 3.64 fw hboot 1.55 you can find that in the RUU mega thread in the HTC One Android sticky section. when flashing the RUU make sure you have super CID or flash the correct versions or else it will not let you force flash it.
If you convert to Developer Edition (3.22.1540.1), you will have 4.3 and Sense 5, but 4.4 with Sense 5.5 will be released as an OTA update in a few days. I'm sure OP knows better than to use superCID. It will prevent you from receiving OTA updates. Always use the proper CID for the firmware you're using (unless it's a custom ROM or something that you wouldn't want to do an OTA on). If you convert to the International version (3.62.401.1), you will have 4.3 with Sense 5.5, but be waiting until January for the Android 4.4 update. There's no real difference between the two. They're both world-wide variants, but the Developer Edition gets updated well before any others.
For Dev Edition, change CID to BS_US001
For International, change CID to HTC__001
For Dev Edition, MID must be PN712000
For International, MID must be PN710000
To flash from GPE, you may need to downgrade your Bootloader first. It was a nightmare for me getting off of GPE until I figured that part out. I assume you're already S-Off. Sneakyghost provided 1.44 bootloader can be downloaded here http://d-h.st/qfc

[Q] GPE to Sense

I was originally on Sense 6 with Hboot 1.57, however I made a switch to GPE and flashed the ruu. Prior to this I changed my cid to supercid 1111111 so that I could do so. My Hboot has dropped to 1.54.
If I wish to return to Sense do I need to find my regional ruu, or as I have changed my cid I can pretty much wwe release? Also, do I need to change my Hboot to a lower version or leave as is?
While I'm on GPE, can I flash aosp roms such as cm, aokp etc?
Thank you.

1. The best way to get back your warranty (I think you want it) is to change CID to your stock CID and flash RUU for your CID.
2. Yoou don;t have to change Hboot coz RUU will do it for you so leave it as is.
3. Yes you can flash all Custom ROMS not only AOSP but it's good to have SuperCID.
No I'm not after keeping my warranty, just asking in case I wanted to switch back to Sense. I can flash a Sense rom over GPE? I wasn't aware that was possible. Figured I would need to go back to a Sense base via ruu.

Yes to go back to Sense you should flash a Sense RUU. And to be on the safe side you should use the earliest ruu you can downgrading to hboot 1.4.4. Then update the phone to the latest sense.
If you don't use an ruu to revert you risk running into problems later. And as your obviously s-off do not under any circumstance 're-lock your bootloader or go back to s-on. you will be stuck with a brick.
Ok, any tips to avoid accidently relocking the bootloader?
I was checking the GPE conversion thread, it simply states flashing the hboot 1.44 ruu, flash a stock ruu, pretty much it? Is there anything that could cause the bootloader to lock or for me to lose s-off? I paid sunshine for that, don't fancy losing it again!!
Assume, I'll have to root and flash custom recovery again? Yeah don't fancy going through the unlocking bootloader procedure again.
I simply want to go back to Sense, retain s-off and my unlocked bootloader so I can continue flashing custom roms and all that fun.
I have supercid 1111111 which means I can use a Euro ruu or any other? I was on Vodafone UK.
Thanks,

Well you'll be pleased to know that if you used Sunshine to s-off. Should you need it again you won't have to pay. You only pay once per device.
Locking the bootloader and switching s-on can only be done manually using specific fastboot commands. Or Very specific dd commands in recovery. It's not likely to happen accidentally.
I only warned you of it because some users made the mistake of thinking it was necessary. But if the phone ends up locked or s-on without a proper conversion they can become impossible to recover.
All done, quite painless really. Thanks for the help.

[Q] Lollipop ruu

Anyone know where I can find a stock Lollipop Sense ruu that I can flash to restore an M7 back to stock?
Previously I have been using a euro JB based ruu from htc1guru, but it's a pain starting out on Jellybean, and upgrading from there but that website only goes up to a Kitkat radio for a euro base ruu, and even then I ran into issue flashing kitkat ruu.
I am super CID and s-off of course. I always flash 1.44 hboot prior to doing the above.
I need the zip by the way, not an exe as I am running linux on my laptop.
Thanks.

HI bob, look at the sticky threads in the general section. Don't forget that you need at least hboot 1.57 and a 6.xx.xxx.x firmware (version-main) to flash a Lollipop RUU.
