For whatever reason when I enable ambient display the time won't update until I unlock the device. Has anyone had this issue? I'm stock and rooted with Franco kernel.

Try wiping dalvik and cache in recovery, maybe fix permissions as well. If it persists, try re-installing stock kernel, or maybe re-flash the rom as a last resort.
Do not do fix permissions, it'll cause your phone to boot loop on the nexus 6.
Kernel has nothing to do with the time and making it display incorrectly.

I have the same issue. Using stock rom with lean kernel (1.7).
I kind of hate ambient display anyways so I guess I'll just wait for an update to come out

I'm having this exact same problem. But I'm not even rooted, all I did was unlock the bootloader, running stock 5.0.1, stock kernel, stock everything.
I've tried having the Time be set automatically, and I've tried turning that auto-set off. The display still doesn't show the correct time until I go to unlock the screen. It seems like it freezes after a few minutes no matter what, kinda like the deep sleep bug. But turning off the Automatic Time setting used to fix that...
Anybody have any idea what causes this now?
actually... it doesn't FULLY freeze... it seems to update 1 time after a set interval. I can't tell what that interval is, and it seems to change randomly, but it'll never be more than, say, an hour behind.
I wonder if there's any way to change the interval? or at least find out why it seems random?

edit.. i just realized that this is an old thread.

On ultimate captivate rom with jk4 modem and gb's 11811 kernel. All of the sudden the phone froze. Did a 3 button hard reset to boot back up. Everything was fine except for a big problem. The auto rotation doesn't work anymore. Disabled/re enabled in settings. Rebooted. Help please!?

Sounds like a bad flash to me. If it were my device, I would flash stock, master clear, and install the ROM fresh and clean. If the problem recurs, I would re-download the ROM zip. And flash clean again as above.
I had to do all of that on my last flash due to a partially unhappy zip.
When you say that Auto-Rotation isn't working you talking about in any app/location? Or just the home screen?
On some of the Rom's the Home Screen doesn't rotate into landscape mode.
Just an FYI

It doesn't work in any app. Unchecking the box in settings and re checking it doesn't help either. Nothing workS. Maps, browser, youtube etc. It was working on this rom for a month and now it all of the sudden isn't. I'm going to flash to stock to see if its hardware related

Just a heads up: I had to flash over again due to a bad kernel flash. My home screen would not rotate. Through my own trial and error I found that when using Launcher Pro as my default launcher, my home screen rotates. I have been using Launcher Pro for so long I just assumed that it rotated with the stock launcher. This my be your case.
Do you use Screeble?
I've had the rotate problem on multiple roms. I have been using Screeble, and have become suspicious of it.
I am currently on Serindipity 3.5.2 ever since it cfame out. AT that time I stopped using Screeble. It has been good ever since.
I just installed Screeble. If it is Screeble causing my issues, I suspect it will return within a week.
The only way I've been able to fix it is with a fresh flash. That has fixed it every time.
I'll post back if I find it comes back. I'll watch here...interested if you use Screeble or not.

Well...tell you the truth...i have no clue what that is...so id have to say ....no...
Not sure what to tell you then.
I have already taken Screeble off my phone. It was acting up, and I didn't want to chance it making me need to reflash.
Of course, I'm not even sure that app is causing any problem with auto rotate.
If your continues to act up, it'll be interesting to see if it starts working after a fresh re-flash.
Sorry I don't have anything else to offer.
I am on CM7 nightly 31, but have been having a problem for weeks now. Every time my NC starts up, Wifi is disabled. I can manually start it, but I can't figure out what is causing this behavior. This problem has continued through multiple ROM updates. Any ideas?
This was happening to me until i did a clean install... never found the root cause.

By clean install do you mean restore to stock then cm7?
thats what i did when i had that problem. using froyo. just reflashed everything and it was back to normal.
I'm having the same issue with CM7. Did you manage to resolve the issue?

Also having the same issue. Not sure when it started, been flashing the nightlies since the first build most nights and I didn't always have the issue, but its been going on for awhile. Haven't really cared enough to do a full wipe and reinstall since its just a nuisance (sp?) just wanted to throw my hat in the ring as another person with the issue.
THere are other topics about this exact issue, from what i've read though it has to do with airplane mode defaulting to "on" when you start your nook. It's not set to on in the settings, but in the actual system files. There is a fix for it out there, but I don't have a link. I personally like it defaulting to off because I don't always turn my nook on to go online right away and it saves battery.

Yes. a clean install fixed this issues. I also am no longer having the issue with the wifi turning off during sleep mode.
Great thanks for the confirmation I guess I'll bite the bullet and do a clean install.

So I found a solution posted on the dev forums that does not require a full wipe. If you use a sqlite editor you can disable airplane mode in settings.db.
Hope that helps someone!

Its nothing to think about... reflash and my gutt feeling say that the reboots disapear.
If not, via odin make a flash to stock.
If that didnt help.. it may be a hardware issue..
No worrys i think.

Hi.
Yes.. if you dont wipe you could inheret the fault.
Factory wipe and then install rom.
Your other hang problem could be fixed to i think. Who knows in the end?

Maybe I just found another possible cause for this long lasting problem. Sorry for bothering this old thread again.
I reactivate old but gold Samsungs with 4G by flashing the most recent stable cfw available. So I did with some SGS3 LTE and I was wondering, why every phone had problems with it. One just curiously lost EFS wich led to continously booting (could be fixed by restore), one had a sudden problem with the powerbutton (could be fixed by soldering a new switch), one just didn't like the SoC-standby (setting kernel to min. 800MHz fixed that) and finally today I found the last one to have a problem with the screen. When the screen blacks out due to energysavings primarly the system loses the connection to the digitizer wich is not the main issue. But 30 seconds after the display shuts off, the standby comes in not so handy and the screen gets a short circuit wich leds to a reboot. So I tried to exchange with a shattered display with broken touch and, oh wonder, everything is working fine. I then connected the suspected display to another mainboard and guess what? Yes, it rebooted exactly 30 secs after the screen blacked out.
Is anyone here still on this device and can replicate my sightings? I'd love to use /e/ on all of these cute little thingies and maybe someone else could do this also by just replacing the display?
...a few facts to add: I tried "keep display active during charging" (development options) over night connected to a powerbank and it stayed on. Just locking the phone made it go nuts and reboot 30 secs after...
Hey,
Ever since the OTA update my phone reboots randomly about once every two days [I'm on Verizon].
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Screen just goes black, vibrates once quickly, then its back on that LG G2/Verizon screen and then boots. Then everything is fine.

Nope... Have you done a FDR yet? It is highly recommended to do one after taking this OTA if you have ANY kind of trouble at all.

Yes, FDR = Factory Data Reset, basically a factory default, not reflashing the original factory images.

It's a fairly common occurrence for people on custom builds. I've noticed it when trying to do too many things at once.
There also apparently appears to be a link between SwiftKey and this problem from what I've read, or maybe that's an entirely different problem.
Mine have stopped after I disabled Google Services Sound Search.

I just rooted my phone about a week ago, I'm still on the 4.4.2 KK ROM and have Swiftkey and Google Services enabled. I also am using the Complete Keyguard Disabler.
A few things I've noticed are:
1)Random reboots/Phone overheating
2)Sluggish/unresponsive phone performance coming out of 'sleep' using double tap
3)Speaker/headphone Viper4 mod not working properly
Is a factory reset something I should consider if I didn't root the device until after the 4.4.2 update or is there something else causing these issues? I'm sure there is some user error in #3 as I'm going through the learning curve, but the most concerning is by far the #1 and 2, as I rooted it for the main purpose of increasing performance speed.
Any insights?

I haven't looked at any logs or anything on a remotely technical level. I noticed the google sound search was eating battery so I disabled it. Reboots are gone.

First and foremost, I was not rooted or using anything customer. I never tried rooting this phone because I figured there would be updates in the near future (I was optimistic).
I am also receiving:
Random Reboots
Overheating
Random Apps Crash frequently (Kindle, Search, Home, etc)
I am also using swiftkey.

I'm also on Swiftkey and am experiencing very similar issues, using English as well.
On a side note, I also work in a building that has no cell service and continuously cycles through wifi connections because the 3 networks I have entered vary greatly in strength based on a 10 ft radius of where I walk.. could this be a cause as well and is there a way to stop it from happening?
I've tried removing all of the connections except 1 wifi signal but then I'm really only connected when I'm at my desk and if I standup to walk somewhere it's disconnected...

Hello and Happy Turkeyday to all. I have an issue with my wife's note. When she gets any notifications they turn the screen on and it doesn't turn off. I feel pretty knowledgeable about the android O.S. in a whole, I have my S5 rooted and running AICP. I just can't figure out why the notifications cause the screen to stay on. Has anyone else had this problem maybe you could help shed some light on my issue. Thanks in advance.

Same problem
I have the exact same problem on my Note 4 (N910F).
My phone is rooted and I have had the problem from the start.
I am also running a custom kernel now but the problem persists.
Any ideas on why this is happening anyone? I've got it to not turn the screen on for a notification but now it won't turn off when plugged in.
Turn off the lock screen notifications, or everything you can on the lock screen settings, most likely something is causing the screen to wake lock. My bet is the weather widget.

Can anyone else have other fix? I have new note 4 with rom stock and very few apps (5-8 apps)
the "Wakelock Detector-Save Battery" app requird root this not my phone so I can't root for now.
If you have very few apps installed, uninstall those apps one by one to see which one is potentially keeping the screen on. Otherwise, do a factory reset, clear cache; also ensure power button is sticky and is fully functional.
