Hey,
Ever since the OTA update my phone reboots randomly about once every two days [I'm on Verizon].
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Screen just goes black, vibrates once quickly, then its back on that LG G2/Verizon screen and then boots. Then everything is fine.

Nope... Have you done a FDR yet? It is highly recommended to do one after taking this OTA if you have ANY kind of trouble at all.

Yes, FDR = Factory Data Reset, basically a factory default, not reflashing the original factory images.

It's a fairly common occurrence for people on custom builds. I've noticed it when trying to do too many things at once.
There also apparently appears to be a link between SwiftKey and this problem from what I've read, or maybe that's an entirely different problem.
Mine have stopped after I disabled Google Services Sound Search.

I just rooted my phone about a week ago, I'm still on the 4.4.2 KK ROM and have Swiftkey and Google Services enabled. I also am using the Complete Keyguard Disabler.
A few things I've noticed are:
1)Random reboots/Phone overheating
2)Sluggish/unresponsive phone performance coming out of 'sleep' using double tap
3)Speaker/headphone Viper4 mod not working properly
Is a factory reset something I should consider if I didn't root the device until after the 4.4.2 update or is there something else causing these issues? I'm sure there is some user error in #3 as I'm going through the learning curve, but the most concerning is by far the #1 and 2, as I rooted it for the main purpose of increasing performance speed.
Any insights?

I haven't looked at any logs or anything on a remotely technical level. I noticed the google sound search was eating battery so I disabled it. Reboots are gone.

First and foremost, I was not rooted or using anything customer. I never tried rooting this phone because I figured there would be updates in the near future (I was optimistic).
I am also receiving:
Random Reboots
Overheating
Random Apps Crash frequently (Kindle, Search, Home, etc)
I am also using swiftkey.

I believe there are known issues with the G2 and Swiftkey on stock roms (rooted, custom, or otherwise).

I'm also on Swiftkey and am experiencing very similar issues, using English as well.
On a side note, I also work in a building that has no cell service and continuously cycles through wifi connections because the 3 networks I have entered vary greatly in strength based on a 10 ft radius of where I walk.. could this be a cause as well and is there a way to stop it from happening?
I've tried removing all of the connections except 1 wifi signal but then I'm really only connected when I'm at my desk and if I standup to walk somewhere it's disconnected...

My phone is completely stock. I am wondering if I should just flash a new ROM or something.

So to quickly sum up, the battery of my Moto X is good for precisely 3 days after I got it, and then started draining quickly in it's sleep. I performed a factory reset, installed the same applications, and the battery was once again good for 3 days, until it experienced the same symptoms. Anybody have any idea why this would happen? Thanks.
P.S. Battery stats reports that my Wi-Fi is always on even if I turn it off. The only way to "turn off" the wifi is to turn off the low-battery location tracking in the wifi menu, so this is kindof leading me to believe that the phone is pinging for location quite often, thus always keeping my wifi on. Just a thought.

Yep. I just ran my phone in safe mode for a bit and the battery is marginally better.
I troubleshoot for a living. You've already solved the mystery:

See you would be right, if it weren't for the fact that I install and completely set up all my apps within an hour of restoring the phone, and don't install any after that.
Ok so I've now taken the device out of safe mode, let it run on Wifi a bit, and then let it run on LTE. Even though the phone isn't registering it, the device is waking. I can determine this by the CPU run time vs the screen-on time vs the wake time. You can see in the screenshots.
You can see the dip as soon as I turn on LTE. The CPU total goes up so wakelocking is the problem on idle, even though it's not showing it.

Do you have a custom kernel or ROM installed? these kind of problems are usually caused by a 'bad flash'

So you're saying that out of ALL of your apps, it's impossible that one creates a rogue or persistent process? Lol. Well, you're wrong.

that's not what I'm saying, and that's not what you suggested either. You said to examine the last after I installed and see if it's waking my device. Then I told you that I installed all my applications immediately after factory reset on the device. It makes no sense that an app would not display rogue behavior until three days later. Plus, after running in safe mode, the battery life did not improve.

Would you be willing to root your phone and installing a custom recovery so you can wipe cache and dalvik cache? Or maybe manually install a ROM yourself. Its worth a try. You can just Unroot it back if you don't want root

yes but I do not want to lose root as soon as the 4.4.2 update is released on February 1st. I plan on rooting the phone after that. I'm worried that after I root though, I discover it is a hardware issue, its going to be a long process of unrooting the phone to send back to Motorola.
Get Gsam and see what is going on. Simple. The stock battery info is next to useless.
Then you can take screen shots that have better info.

If you suspect its a hardware issue then its best to have the phone replaced as soon as possible before messing with it too much you know?

I've been getting this more and more lately. The app I'm using will do a "minimize" animation to the top of the screen, then come back. Sometime it will be just once, other times it will happen several times in a row. This happens when in my hand or in my car holder, seemingly at any time.
Has anyone had this happen?

I posted a similar issue here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/unknown-app-flashing-toggling-wifi-t2672301
I believe it's related to wifi switching on and off, but have not found what app is causing the screen to flash.
I think it may be related to the OTA waiting to install, as it started happening around that time, but I'm not sure.
Yes! I had the minimizing problem also--it went away as soon as I disabled/froze the OTA app. It was horribly annoying! So glad that fixed it!

The "friendly" name is MotoOTA, not sure of the full name.
Yeah I have been delaying the updating app. That must be it. I'm waiting for my unlock code, should I just update to 4.2.2, or wait for unlock.
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
I can't say for sure that being on 4.4.2 fixed it, but I am on 4.4.2 now and it is not happening anymore.
I unlocked my bootloader and did the 4.4.2 SBF, unlocked and rooted. I installed probably 99% of the same apps (only ditched 1-2 that I never used anymore) and I am not having the flashing issue anymore.
Hard to tell for certain if the pending OTA was the cause, but it may have been.
For whatever reason when I enable ambient display the time won't update until I unlock the device. Has anyone had this issue? I'm stock and rooted with Franco kernel.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
Try wiping dalvik and cache in recovery, maybe fix permissions as well. If it persists, try re-installing stock kernel, or maybe re-flash the rom as a last resort.
Do not do fix permissions, it'll cause your phone to boot loop on the nexus 6.
Kernel has nothing to do with the time and making it display incorrectly.

I have the same issue. Using stock rom with lean kernel (1.7).
I kind of hate ambient display anyways so I guess I'll just wait for an update to come out
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm having this exact same problem. But I'm not even rooted, all I did was unlock the bootloader, running stock 5.0.1, stock kernel, stock everything.
I've tried having the Time be set automatically, and I've tried turning that auto-set off. The display still doesn't show the correct time until I go to unlock the screen. It seems like it freezes after a few minutes no matter what, kinda like the deep sleep bug. But turning off the Automatic Time setting used to fix that...
Anybody have any idea what causes this now?
actually... it doesn't FULLY freeze... it seems to update 1 time after a set interval. I can't tell what that interval is, and it seems to change randomly, but it'll never be more than, say, an hour behind.
I wonder if there's any way to change the interval? or at least find out why it seems random?

Yes it's under lockscreen. To be able to see the setting, 1st u must select a lock screen type, not the regular swype screen. Then go back to the lock screen setting and the option will be available. But lime I said, doing that doesn't fix this issue. Yesterday I turned my screen on and off 3 times just to get it to lock.

I haven't tried it, mostly because I actually like the look of the lock screen and its integration with the rest of the OS. I think it is more of a problem with the OS not recognizing that the screen has been turned off. Therefore, I think it is a problem that would affect all lock screens.
Could it be an issue with Smart Lock? I do have a smart device set up (the Sync system in my car), but the locking isn't being consistent in my car.
I am having an issue where the Samsung Keyboard crashes when used with some apps. Notably Facebook messenger. Anyone else notice this? Also, on occasion when opening the stock SMS app after unlocking the device, it automatically opens the bottom most conversation. I've cleared both data and caches for the apps. I am fresh install rooted lollipop the day it came out.

my lollipop problems
Stock s5 with lollipop AT&T. Since update and even after cache clearing, I am suffering from extremely slow charging, too fast battery drain. Occasional sluggishness, and occasionally notifications don't work until phone unlocked.
I used muniz_ri's flash fire method keeping root which installs fresh and lollipop works flawlessly with no bugs, nothing broken. After install, google reinstalls your apps which many rediscover their stored settings on the internal sd. Most lollipop issues seem to be related to the stock update method or manual tibu restore... muniz fresh install lollipop is solid.

This makes me wonder then, because I was a fresh install with the original method Muniz had up. I only TiBu restored a few apps (none affected by my keyboard issue) and let everything else stay fresh. I am going to try the new method for the reasons Muniz pointed out to my prior post that listed the issues I had.

Had mine since the 19th of September with no freezes or reboots. You can boot into safe mode and if it doesn't freeze it's definitely something you've installed. If it freezes in safe mode I'd see about getting it replaced.

Yes--Secure Folder has been freezing frequently on me. I am wondering if it is related to my Xfinity wifi or my NordVPN or strongSwan VPN. It seems to freeze less when I use 4G. Do you use those VPNs or wifi? Reply to [email protected]. Thank you
