[Q] Wifi draining battery - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, How are you?
I have a Moto X 2014 (Model XT1097) with Android 5.0 (Build LXE22,46017), and I am experiencing issues with Wi-fi draining to much battery.
I mean, My Wi-fi drain around 20% to 30% of battery, even with Wi-fi disable all the time.
Is this Wi-fi's battery consumption expected?
Thanks in advance,
Roger

[Q] High battery drain: any suggestions?

Greetings everyone!
I have a M7 with an Android HD Revolution 51.0 with LTE always on (of course switched to wi-fi when possible) and bluetooth (due to the Pebble).
I have a really huge battery drain issue: of course, I'm not willing the phone to last forever, not even 15 hrs with LTE and Bluetooth almost everytime on, but my M7 can't even last for 5 or 6 hrs.
I've also thought to return to stock but could that change the battery's life?
Thanks in advance for your help!

get BetterBatteryStats from HERE
and check for wakelocks and get GSAM Battery Monitor from PlayStore to see what is causing battery drain

Thanks! So, essentialy GSAM Battery Monitor says that there a 34% usage by the display (it usually is at these percentages) and a 70% used by "Kernel(Android OS)"

[Q] Battery Problems

Hello
My device is a Samsung Galaxy S5 (Bell Canada). I am having huge issues with the battery. As a result, I rooted my device and got Xposed for the reason of DS Battery Saver.
My question is, how come my battery usage is being plagued by Cell Standby, which in 3 hours drained my battery 8% while I slept. Another is, what is the difference between DS Battery Saver and DS Battery Saver Pro? Does the free version still kill background apps when the screen is turned off and does it turn off 3g/LTE/wifi as well?
Thank you
Josh

As far as I know cell standby draining too much battery is a consequence of bad signal, you can try changing to 2G only and see it helps. I don't know the difference between DS Battery Saver Free / Pro, but Greenify can hibernate background apps when the screen is off.

[Q] Unusually High Battery Drain While Idle?

Hey guys,
I just got my Moto X 2014 last Monday and have noticed the battery life kinda sucks, so I've been monitoring it and my cellular radio and WiFi are using quite a bit of battery and I'm also getting some wakelocks that i cant find the source of (as being on lollipop and not being rooted).
I am almost always around WiFi and have excellent signal (3+bars) all the time and have all the same apps I've had installed on my galaxy nexus (witch the battery graph would actually flat line and have no wake locks) so I cant see any one of my apps being a problem for the battery drain of 10-15% over night with Moto Display turned off (as not to wakelock me haha).
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this phone but i expected a bit better idle time than this.
Anyone out there have any idea what could be causing this?
Thanks,
McDuff

I've been on lollipop on my PE for a while now and had horrible standby time. Google play services was always shown as the highest consumer of battery. I finally decided to clear cache from recovery and now my standby times have improved dramatically, about 1% drop per hour or so. Not sure what the problem was as I did factory reset after updating to lollipop via ota.
Considering the phone is always listening, 1% per hour is ok. I get around this with a good signal. I just think that battery drain while the phone is being used is very high. It drains 1% each 3,6 minutes while playing a video from the internal memory with sound on 50% and brightness on 25%.

Welcome to lollipop. Enough said. Lollipop has severe battery issues and at the moment there is no fix as far as i can see or have tried.
I found that disabling moto voice reduced my overnight drain from 1% to 0.5% per hour which is very reasonable considering I have moto display enabled and it gets activated a lot during the night (I have a springy bed lol). Since moto voice on lollipop is not that good anyway I don't miss it too much. This also proves that moto display has negligible impact on battery life.

You can also make it so your moto display won't come online during sleep time, just saying.

Battery drain - Android system mediaserver, kernel and Android system :(

Hey guys, getting terrible battery since my note 5 updated last weekend with system (mediaserver), Android system and kernel (android os) being the main offenders according to gsam. Anyone else having this issue? Any ideas for a fix? Check out my battery stats here.
Any input much appreciated!
I remember you from the reddit thread lol. I still have the same drain and after some testing it seems to be the wlan_rx_wake wakelock. The drain is worse on some large networks. After hours of googling the only working solution for me is to turn off the wifi. Have you tried turning off the wifi and checking the drain?

My wifi is off whenever I'm not home, but those three processes are still the biggest drains on my battery
Just wondering if you found a solution to this. My Note 5 has the same issue with mediaserver draining my battery

Are you using the version that came with your phone, or are you using something custom (i.e. CyanogenMod or Resurrection Remix)? Did you see what "supposedly" is the highest percent drainer under Settings->Battery?

Based on that, the only thing that I can think of is to turn down your display brightness (even try setting to auto if you haven't already) and if your cell service is often weak/non existent, then put it in airplane mode temporarily to turn off your cell radio (which will also kill calling and texting though). It also depends on just how fast your battery is draining. How much time are you getting with it on? How quickly is it draining (percentage wise per hour for example)?

It sounds like some of that is just the software then as well. Before I unlocked the bootloader and installed CyanogenMod on mine, I used to see it drain quite a bit faster (especially during standby when the screen was off). A big part of that was being able to change the CPU clock speeds (which I lowered on mine) and adjusting it to where many apps couldn't wake up the phone anymore. When doing heavy gaming though, it's pretty much always guaranteed to drain quickly.

I'm not saying the version you are using, but the actual stock software in general. It's definitely not optimized as well for battery life as it can be in a custom ROM and the bloatware doesn't help either. Using the phone for gaming will also take a hefty toll, regardless of what you are running.

Do you mean 10% per hour of screen on time or screen off time? If you lose only 10% for an hour of screen on, you probably get 8-10 hours of screen on time per charge. I only get less than 5.

p.s. idle 22% standby 22%...no gps, no bluetooth, no notification, just a few applications...I tried, after charging to 100%, leaving the phone for some days without doing anything (no wifi, no connection, no signal) and I was surprised to read such draining as in the screenshot.
Anyone can reply and help me? What's the difference between idle and standby? The phone has a stock firmware, never rooted
