[Q] Moto G suddenly stopped playing music and sounds through earphones - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there. I own a rooted moto g 2nd Gen, which I bought 3 months ago. Today, while I was playing Sonic Dash and listening to music through my Nokia wh 208 headphones from Google music app running on background, suddenly, the music stopped. I opened the music app to restart the music, however I no longer listen to it through my headphones. I rebooted the phone, but no luck on returning the sound to my headphones. I downloaded sound about and if I force stream the media sound to earphones, then I listen to the sound again through them. I conn3cted the earphones to a nexus 5 and they work fine, no soundabout app needed. Please, tell me that it is NOT a hardware issue, although it seems like one. I played sonic and music on the background several times before and every time the music stopped, I pushed the play button and continued playing through my earphones.
UPDATE: I tried Nokia WH - 205 and Nokia WH - 101 . Both of them were not recognised by Moto G and music was playing through the speakers. However, I inserted a 3,5 mm Jack to RCA cable and connected it to my Stereo Receiver and the music started playing again through the stereo receiver and not from the phone's speakers...
UPDATE 2: I also tried a 3,5mm jack to 3,5mm jack to connect it to my car audio unit and I can hear the sound and music from the car speakers again. So, it seems to me as an incompatibility issue with Moto G and Nokia Headsets. Am I wrong??

Moto G(2nd Gen) earphone non-compatibility issues
I recently switched from a Lumia Device to Moto g 2nd gen(not rooted), well the first thing i tried was my WH-208....i didnt work...there was sound output from the speakers of the mob though....
If u visit Mototola's site theres a post about this....unfortunately i cant post the link here cos im a new user..
do chk it out
the compatibility issues has something to do with the earphones ,,,basically the "Earphone standards"
so it goes like this...Most nokia earphones are of OMTP Standards and Moto G 2nd gen supports only AHJ Standard ones...
so i guess u( or i) cant use the nokia earphones on the Moto G

Hmmm, funny thing, they used to work when I bought the phone and for 2 months from then, but now they don't. What earphones do you use now? I am thinking of buying the iLuv Neon Sound.. What do you suggest? And, please, do send me the link you mentioned above through a PM. Thanks in advance folk.

I bought today the orange iLuv Neon earphones. The sound is back on my earphones. It was a compatibility issue indeed and had nothing to do with the jack. Thanks folk.

@xenocyte
Im facing the exact same situation with my new sennheiser cx-215 earphones
its a crap situation tbh
Dammmmmn, looks like its time to fork out for a new earphones
On a side note, can you please elaborate what exactly does OMTP and AHJ standards mean ?

Well, long story short: you might have noticed that the 3,5 mm jacks consist of 3 black rings, separating the metal into four pieces. The lowest one receives the sound for the first earpiece. The one above the lowest receives the sound for the second earpiece. Now, the difference between ahj and omtp is that the ahj jacks use the third metal piece for the microphone and the fourth for ground, whereas an omtp jack uses the third and fourth metal piece the opposite way (third for ground and fourth for mic).

@Jimisballjohn
Thanks for the clarification mate
But the sennheiser 215 has only 2 black rings around it, separating it into 3 divisions. Would that still count as incompatible ?

No problem folk. I've just checked that your earpieces do have only 2 black rings, which means they don't have a microphone. Hmmm, strange. Did you use any other earpieces to check if the problem is still there?

Best earphones for TyTN II - MP3 Playback

Hi All,
I bought HTC Tytn II recently... It's rock.....
But i am very disappointed with the earphone quality of HTC... No Bass at all.... I am not saying mp3 playing quality is bad... I tried my motorola BT stereo headset and it gave me fantastic output with heavy bass..... So the quality of my HTC earphone is bad...
I found several earphones on HTC website.... can you please help me to find out an excellent HTC earphone which can give full Bassy effects.... or any other brand which haves mini usb port...... Dont want converters please.......
Thanks.

Why not? You are unlikely to find a decent pair of USB earphones IMHO.
I'd get a small adapter and buy some sure earphones for the best possible sound.
don't mean to hijack the thread but can anybody recommend a good bluetooth stereo headset? i want one that will be good with music and also allow me to make calls.
I am particularly looking for an in ear type earphone or a unit that allows me to use my own ear buds.
I've got the i-Tech Clip Radio (http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=145553). Works well with the kaiser, got play/pause, next/prev, volume, and call buttons, bulit in FM radio, and allows you to plug your own earphones in as it has a 3.5 jack.
How is this unit for bass?
Also it looks just like the htc S100, did HTC rebrand it?
I listen to alot of dance music, and with Sony's EX-71s it does me fine!
Yeh, the S100 is HTC's rebranded version of the non FM radio version!
I also have the iTech clip (excellent unit with medium audio quality) as it can handle calls and lets you use any 3.5mm jack units you have but you have loads of cables about (use my B&O earbuds on that).
For genaral use and if I want to anser a call I use the Promate PM-2006 BT stereo headset as it is a halfway sized headphone with good audio quality and in call holding.
But for sheer audio enjoyment, I use my Creative CB2530, absolute bliss and can put most Hi-Fi's to shame.
SOZ, probably not what the thread starter asked for but WHO is gonna produce a GOOD set of headphones terminated in a mini usb? You will need the converter or BT (no converter at all!)
Every BT unit I have works seamlessly, no clicks, no splutters, no bad audio with my 'out of the box' non-carrier HTC TyTnII.
Damn, its either the beer or I should have been a salesman! Smiles.
There aren't any "best" headphones without using an adapter. If you want the best you'll need to spend you're looking at the Shure SE530 or go custom which is around $1000. It all depends on your budget.
ive got the Shure e4c's connected through an adapter and i can say you can't get better sound.. its so crystal clear, it sounds better than live people in front of you talking
ok, I've something else to add.....well asK
Is there any bluetooth stereo heaphones (with very good sound quality but aren't humongous so as to make me look like a Martian ) that can pair with two devices at once?
For example, I have two phones which support A2DP and I use one as my music phone (Nokia N93i) but also use the TYTN 2 as my business phone. What I want is to be listening to my Nokia N93i through the earphones, and If my TYTN 2 rings, the music pauses so I can speak to the caller on the TYTN 2 then revert back to listening to music back on the N93i.....
.....is this even possible?

Well yes to the pairing to two sperate devices, and no to the 'very good sound quality but aren't humongous'. The Promate PM-2006 headset is a 'medium' sized' 'medium to good quality' folding headset with mike. Pair it to both units then disable the function you don't want it to do on whichever phone (under BT settings). It will halt audio and answer the call from the other unit. These headphones were primarily developed to use with a BT mp3 players with capability to connect to your mobile phone but WM phones do both!

Look at the Jabra BT8010. They're a little large, but have the advantage of using it in mono or stereo mode, as well as connecting to 2 devices simultaneously.
Incidentally, Seidio makes earphones that end in the proprietary htc mini-usb format. Haven't tested them out, but they're the only other ones i know of that don't need a converter.
Another vote for iTech Clip Radio. Works awesome with my Ultimate Ears Super fi 5 Extended Bass buds.
I bought Kyocera from here: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=204239053&loc=111&pageFormat=20&rs=1&#cReviews
The best headphones I ever bought and have the most functionality. The only problem that some people might have is the look and size of the headphones. I have not charged the headphones for a month now and still running on standby.

has anyone tried any Sony bluetooth stereo headset?

I think it might be possible using the Sony Erickson BT Earphone Stereo set. Check FleaBay... They got them cheaper than anywhere else. ( BT phone would have to be close to you, just disable the bluetooth on N93i, however The Sony Er unit has a 3.5 jack that can be plugged into the N93i, just marry the TytnII to the bluetooth)
If you marry to phones BT to the headset, and if you get a call from one while listening to music from the other, you will hear both the caller voice and the music at the same time. Jabra is one headset that I know of that can accept two devices, however when tried, I heard the device playing music however the music volume was very low while I talked on the phone. Not a great setup but might do the trick.

Reviews for Best Bluetooth for Touch

Just received my Sony Ericsson HBH-DS980 Stereo Bluetooth Headset. It's being charged up right now. I'll let everyone know hows the sound quality tonight.
Paid: 99.99 + 5.95 Shipping = 105.94
Edited: Here is what i have experienced with this unit.
Here are the Specs: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/accessories/overview/hbh-ds980?cc=&lc=
Sound: Great Clarity and rich Bass( Sounds like your in a car thats equipped with Sound System)
Range: Since it is Bluetooth Version 2.0 , it has better range than any other bluetooth headset Version 1.2. ( My previous Stereo Bluetooth by LG HBS-110 was V1.2. While listening to music, it got cut off when i went into another room, and came back on when it was in line of sight.) On the Sony Ericsson, it was cutting off a little bit but not completely off, and can go farther than like the LG)
so far thats with the Music portion. Still have to play around with it more to see whats great about it.
Mind me asking where you ordered your ds980 from?

I think Sony DR-BT Serie is better. Its more a Headset for Bluetooth MP3 Player. They have better DA-Converter inside. I use in the moment ... DR-BT50.

i've been using the Sony DR-BT10CX for the past few months and am very pleased with the sound quality i am receiving. i am having two major problems that i do not know how to fix:
1. every time i go to connect the headset to the phone, i have to go into the bluetooth settings, uncheck the boxes a) wireless stereo and b) headset, then save those changes. then i have to go back into the settings and re-check the boxes and save. - this is a nightmare of an issue, when the headset should simply connect automatically when turned on.
2. making calls is fine, but when a call is received it does not answer through the headset, but through the phone. pointless if you are driving for example...
if anyone knows how i can fix this, i'd love to hear a solution...
MBR-100 Sony/Ericson stereo receiver
I'm using the MBR-100 Sony/Ericson stereo receiver to stream music to me car stereo via 3.5mm input cable and to me earbuds when I am riding on my motorcycle. It connects quickly, sounds good and lasts about a week between charges. I only commute about an hour a day. I got it for $80 at Fry Electronics. I have seen a few of them ob ebay as well.
HT820 + Telus P3050 Touch
I have the Motorola HT820 on a Telus Touch P3050 Vogue and it is very good. I am pleased with my choice.
Sadly I must say stay away from the BlueAnt X5's...horrid sound quality. It seems that the sony's have good sound quality, at least as good as a wired buds that are included. The X5's are much worse. Less spatial seperation, more "muddy" sound, just not good.
Everything I've heard and read about the Jawbone BT headset says that it's a very high quality unit, with excellent noise reduction/cancellation properties. I'll be getting one when I save up some pennies. (10,000 pennies to go!)
i'm using the BlueAnt Z9 with the new 3.4 firmware update and, for me, it's loud and clear with the Vogue. i actually have to turn it down...i have not had any complaints from others when using the headset. when i purchased the Z9 it had the 3.0 firmware and the volume was very acceptable to me. also, the 3.0 firmware allowed you to control the volume with the phone. with the 3.4 firmware, all volume is controlled by the headset.
Jawbone
I have the black jawbone best bluetooth I have used thus far and I have tested quite a few. connects flawlesly and quickly as soon as you turn it on and the noise cancelation that the jawbone is famous for actualy works
I have an old wep150 (samsung) I got it for another phone about a year and a half ago. Its sounds worse on the vogue than it did on my motorola phones. I hope to get a nice stero headset for listening to music and calls. I'm glad to hear the sound quality is good for these devices.
BT
I use the Jabra BT 5020 works awesome on my sprint (cdma) touch. Long life too.. I have always like the jabra products. You can also pair it with multiple devices. it has vibrate.
Timdawg
Just got the SE HBH-DS970 and it works pretty well. the call display only shows the number not the name unfortunetly. And My music tracks don't seem to show up on the screen. Any one else experience this?
I just got the new MOTOPURE H12 the other day and really like it. I got rid of the Jabra BT8010 because I felt like I had to yell into it. This new H12 is pricey at $129.00 but worth it because I am in the car alot. This thing is very small and very light. It comes with a cool desktop charger and carrying case that you can use as a charger also. Here is a link http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/h12/
Good question, CCRRAR!
Has anybody got a bluetooth to work with Voice Command??! The closest I've gotten has been with the Blue Ant Z9, I manage a RadioShack, and we just started carrying that unit. It is small, lightweight, comfortable, and very good volume. Better than almost any Motorola bluetooth re: volume. The plantronics are good volume as well, but a bit bulkier. But the Blue Ant actually recognizes Voice Command! The problem, like most, is it doesn't recognize the confirmation.
Very Frustrating!
Anyone found a fix? I've tried some that profess to be the "true fix" but no luck.

Headphones And Mic

Hello,
Although I like my One, the battery and bad camera have to go. Thinking about the G2 but both trips to verizon and att stores left me a bit disappointed. I use Bose In Ear MEI 2 headphones. The One let me use the mic and button on headphones (Jay's Headset Control), however, when using it with the LG mic did not seem supported and even Jays headset control couldn't get the buttons to work for music.
Do you have any experience with these headphones?
Additionally if these don't work are there any headphones that will work letting me speak via mic and use controls for music? I hate taking out the phone everytime I need to change a song.
Thanks!:good:

I just got these today from best Buy Mobile
LG HBS730 Tone+
Now I don't even have to touch my phone. And the battery is lasting from what I see. I might do a full review another time (tons of them on youtube). But ALL features of this headset work including FF and Rewind. Had to take a call with them and the headset vibrated and my caller had no issue with hearing me since they have noise cancellation features.
They said you can connect 2 devices to these things. From reviews, one reviewer had this connected to his phone and his PS3 at the same time. Which is a plus to me so I wouldn't have to disconnect from one device to use it on the other. For music, since I use Viper4Android and the volume boost hack, music sounds great (couldn't tell you from default as I'm not a fan of default volume on Android phones)
But I can testify all controls work and, since both the headset and the G2 are apt-X capable, audio quality is really good (said this earlier I know).
Oh, there is an app that LG makes called BT Reader+ that will read to me any text message or notification I get. Comes in handy when I don't even want to touch my phone to respond to a text right away. Unfortunately, you can't respond unless you use Google Now or Voice command.
I dont understand why your bose wouldn't work. Unless they are designed for the iphone? I have a pair of phonak 122s that have just the single button and they work.

They were designed for the iphone, however they work on my htc one. I originally got them for the iphone.
Looks like it was a bad pair of headphones, my girl stole mine and I used yours, (same ones) one pair worked one didn't, bought the phone can't wait to test it, headphones work nice and proper.

Anyone try Bose Sound Canceling headphones with the Turbo?

Anyone happen to have Bose Sound Canceling headphone (SC model) and try them with their Turbo? I've used a number of different headphones with my Turbo without issue, but for some reason my Bose ones only output sound to the left headphone. I have no issues using them with any other device. Very strange and curious if Im on the only one....
I first encountered that issue on my Moto X. Use the other Headphone wire that came with the Bose (the one without in line volume controls).
I have had no issues with QuietComfort 15. Just used them to and from London with no issues.

Fixed Problem with Bose QC15 Headphones and Motorola Droid Turbo Phone
I had an issue where my Bose QC15 headphones would not work properly with my Droid Turbo. Once plugged in I could only hear though the right headphone. I found a solution on another post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545405
1. Disconnect the headphones to the phone and start music on any player(Google play or your choice) on the phone.
2. Once the song starts playing insert the headphones into the jack. Imp Note: remove the headset part from the wire.you should only insert the wire without having the headset piece.
3. Now the song will continue to play. Now switch on the headphone and insert the wire into the headphone. It should work now.
All credit goes to member bonthukarthik.
That worked for me. Headphones and mic are working properly now.
Not yet. But i am thinking to try one of them in future.

V-Moda Crossfade M100 not working properly

So Ive recently bought the phone and have been overall very impressed with its performance however I have come across this issue which makes it really annoying to listen to music... I have 2 pairs of headphones an In-ear House Of Marley and an over the ear V-Moda Crossfade M 100 and the house of Marley pair works fine when I connect it through the Huawei provided adaptor.. However the V-Moda doesn't in the sense that the audio sounds really weird... If I play a song I can hear the instrumentation really clearly but the vocals sound like they're singing from the end of a tunnel.. These headphones have been working fine and still do on another phone that i have so it's clearly an issue with the phone and/or the adaptor... My question is as to whether there is any solution to this at present either within the settings or by changing the adaptor or something? And also whether this issue has been popping up for any other headphones cause I plan on purchasing a Bererdynamic Byron in the future...
