The USB port on my phone seems to be defective. It charges fine, but isn't detected on my PC. No sound when I plug it in, nothing at all. Fastboot says "Fastboot AC" instead of "Fastboot USB". I've tried on other computers with different cables with no luck, so at this stage I'm sure it's a hardware issue.
It's still under warranty, so I want to return to stock before I send it in for repair. The problem is I'm S-off at the moment, and I need fastboot to work to be able to run the commands to get back to S-on.
Is there any way to do this?

No way to do it without fastboot. How did you return the rest of the software back to stock without USB functionality ? As really you would need to run an RUU to be sure of no modification left in the firmware. Going back to s-on may brick your phone if not correctly returned to stock. You could send it with s-off though HTC aren't that bothered by s-off as long as the bootloaders ***LOCKED*** with no Tampered flag they would probably still repair it. Although they would probably turn s-on once it was repaired.

I haven't actually started flashing anything yet. I'll just live without USB if it can't be done.
I could swear I saw a flashable zip version of an RUU somewhere, so I was assuming I could use something like that to get me half way there.
Is it possible to get back to LOCKED from UNLOCKED without fastboot though?

You could flash a GuruReset Rom, you would have to download it directly to the device, and install it with the correct recovery. If something were to go wrong with the install you would be screwed. There is also a tool you could download to the phone to Lock the bootloader from a custom recovery. But you would then have no way to flash the stock recovery.
At some point you are going to need to connect it to fastboot
It's a long shot i think because it does sound like hardware, but have you tried a PC running Linux?

Thanks for that info.
No I haven't, but I might give that a try tomorrow.
The weird thing is that it sort of came back to life the other day briefly after I cleaned some dust out of the port. But now it's gone again, and no amount of cleaning seems to do anything.

Well if nothing else Linux will eliminate any driver issues. If Linux doesn't see it it's most likely the cable or the port.

Okay guys I've kinda messed up my phone. I'm gunna try and keep this brief , but I need to relock and unroot my phone mainly for warranty purposes. My phone is In a reboot loop, i turn it on and it stays on for about a minute but then it turns off by itself (might be to do with a sunken in lock button I'm not sure). I want to send it back to htc so that they can sort out the lock button, but as it is rooted and unlocked , and simply not working i think my warranty is void.
I've watched various you tube videos and want to use an RUU to restore it , but I'm not too sure which one too use , (does it really matter?) . I am UK orange EE carrier . I've attached my phones details. Can anyone assist me further please , I am hopeless lol . Thank you if you've read this far.

if your power button is screwed up it's going to be pretty hard to get into the bootloader and recovery. I don't know of any RUU for your carrier (doesn't mean it don't exist just means I don't know about it)

anyway, forget the warranty even if you ruu the phone. the phone must be locked (not relocked) and tampered flag removed for the warranty to be valid. Setting the bootloader back to locked and removing the tampered flag require s-off, which will be impossible to achieve with a power button stuck (if this is really the case)
If you really think it's that you're better off getting some tiny jewlers screwdrivers and see if you can pop it back up because otherwise your warranty is void

That's the thing I'm not sure whether my phone constantly rebooting is a hardware problem or a software one. Also say if I was to use an RUU that wasn't 100% like what I needed what would be the risks ?

Say I was to send my phone to HTC in its current state do you think they'd send it back or charge me for the repair ?
Also when I hold down the power and volume buttons I can enter the boot loader and use it normally, I'm beginning to think that I don't have a hardware problem at all. Once in the boot loader it all works fine , is there anyway I can do a system restore to set back to default (I know it'll still be rooted) . But I would just like to get my phone functional again.
I'm using TWRP and believe there is a backup file on my phone. But the whole using a backup to restore always confused me.
Say hypothetical I have no button problem at all what would you do ?

From the way you explained your first post it sounded like it was bootlooping even in bootloader mode.
If the bootloader is ok, then put TWRP recovery 2.6.3.3 on your phone, push this to your phone sd card and flash it in recovery, during install, select wipe data, flash stock recovery but don't flash stock radio.
http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_3-62-401-1-zip/
However, with TAMPERED and UNLOCKED in your bootloader, HTC will charge you for any repairs, the only way you can get rid of those flags is to S-OFF.

Thanks for that so that will get me to exactly how I had the phone when it came out the box , but just unlocked and tampered.
Does it have to be that version of twrp?
One thing that always confused me was the wipe data , doesn't that remove everything on the phone ? But does it not matter as we're pushing it onto the phone?
Is the link you posted for an RUU?

first you mention TWRP 2.6.3.0 update it to 2.6.3.3
if you have a TWRP backup restore it
if you use the guru reset you flash it from twrp
i've got TWRP 2.6.3.3. And i can use it perfectly fine , is it just a case of using the guru reset file to get me back to stock. im abit unsure on how to do this, do i put the zip file onto the phone and then run it in twrp?
Also guys how can i get the zip file onto the phone seeing as using the USB isn't working. Do i need to push it onto the phone? if so how?

theirs even a video of it here >> http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/stock-rom-downloads/

Hi so basically my One M8 for Sprint is COMPLETELY BRICKED! The phone cannot be repaired as far as I know because it is not S-Off and I can only boot into boot loader.
Alright so here's the situation, I am going to setup a repair and my options are:
1. I send the phone in and they repair the phone.
2. I pay $20, ship my phone and after DIAGNOSTICS they send me a replacement phone NOT the original one.
3. I pay $30 BUT they ship me the phone first and can charge me full price if they reject my claim without my approval.
What do you guys think would be the best option? and what should I say is the reason I need the repair? Should I just say something like the speakers are not clear or the headphone jack doesn't work?
When I spoke with the rep it sounded like they are more concerned about any hardware defects rather than software but she did say any unauthorized software usage will result in denied repair.
Also, keep in mind the phone will only boot into BOOTLOADER and has the "Tampered" "Relocked" and "Security Warning" banner.
Thankyou.

If you can boot into the bootloader your m8 is NOT COMPLETELY BRICKED !..... you can try unlocking the bootloader again, reflashing a custom recovery and a rom.
He will need to pull the boot.img from the Rom since he is not s off.
Your phone is not bricked. By any chance did you do a backup before flashing a new Rom??

OMG You guys just gave me so much hope. If you one of you guys could please me I am willing to compensate for your time. I was an iPhone user previous to this so I am not too knowledgeable but I can definitely follow directions. I had a M7 a year ago and similar thing happened to it but I was able to fix it with the RUU but not this time.
If you guys could just look over my previous thread to give you an idea of whats going on i would much appreciate it.

I believe there is a backup for you to use here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2736048
The problem is you relocked the bootloader (as mentioned in your other post).
Have you try to get unlock_code from HTC ? I don't remember whether you can re-unlock the phone without a proper OS but worth a try.
What's your CID as I can't find it in other post.

Go to this link here and find the link to the 1.54.651.10 RUU (do not do this if you updated to the most recent update that added WiFi calling or if you have a Harman/Kardon version. There are links to the HK RUU's at this same link). Follow the instructions listed at that link to run the RUU. Afterwards your phone should be working fine.

Hi i am probably an idiot but is there a RUU for my phone? From the pic I uploaded do you know which ruu version I need? Since I am not S-off it has to be the exact version and the instruction you gave said:
"To run a RUU, simply download the RUU you wish to install to your PC, then connect your phone and PC via USB cable. Once connected, simply double-click the RUU file on your computer to start the installer, then follow the on-screen instructions. Normally, a RUU is run while the phone is booted to the OS but alternatively, can be run while the phone is connected to the computer via Fastboot USB mode. If your device is S-on you will need to relock your bootloader to run a RUU. Use the command "fastboot oem lock" to relock your bootloader (without quotation marks)."
But even after relocking my bootloader and using the 1.54.654.9 RUU .exe I get the error 131 on stage 1/7 Sending Signature. Please see the attached pics. BTW you don't know how much I appreciate your help and you will be compensated.

Use the RUU for the 1.54.651.10 update as I previously mentioned. This update is newer than the current software version you have. You can upgrade while S-on, you just can't go backwards (unless you're S-off). The RUU can be found in this post along with installation instructions. Try the install method that's mentioned in the post and then if that doesn't work try the PC method. If using the PC method make sure you see "Fastboot USB" hightlighted in red above the bootloader menu screen prior to running the RUU. This means that your phone and PC are properly connected.

Hey there,
my phone is broken, it won't load or do anything on the usb port while the system is up, when the phone is off/fastboot or recovery it seems to charge (very slow) and i have no problems accessing it through fastboot or adb.. but even when the battery is fully charged i cannot use it for more than an hour or so before its discharged again..thats what my problem startet with, over the night the phone won't charge and i couldn't use ADB etc while the OS was up...
i think it is a hardware problem, the last thing i did was updating the firmware, but after that i used the phone like 2 weeks or, without problems and changing anything......
first i thought about it could be a bug with the new firmware, so i downgraded to an old stock version and update it through OTA to the latest version but nothing changed..
then i thought of sending it in and i tried to lock my bootloader and restore everything before doing this but the only way to access the phone via adb was in recovery, so i did that and S-ONed the phone and locked the bootloader, not thinking about that i cannot restore the old recovery with locked BL.
since i knew that i am kind of an idiot, not thinking about what exactly i did at this point i thought i pay my rent by buying SunShine an S-On it again (i didn't find another way to root/unlock BL since i was on last HTC-Android version). and replace the recovery with the original one
now i have my phone with stock recovery and everything but i cannot lock/s-off the bootloader again because i have no adb access.
Does anyone have an idead how i can prepare my phone for sending it in?
I thought about rooting stock firmware, replace recovery with stock recovery, write a script that locks the bootloader execute it after replacing recovery and unroot the phone from within SuperSU. then S-OFF it again.
I guess this should work, but since i didn't think about everything the first time i thought i might ask here if someone has a better idea.

You have stated a lot of things but most of them are contradictory.
What is the status of your phone? Locked or Unlocked?
Are you S-ON or S-OFF?
What recovery do you have on the phone? Stock or Custom?
What specifically are you trying to accomplish?
If you have stock rom, stock firmware with stock recovery, bootloader is locked and you are S-ON then you are back to stock. However, if your bootloader states "Tampered" and/or "Relocked" then the service facility will know that you tampered with the phone. To remove those items:
Unlock bootloader
Follow the steps in nkk71's SuperGuide in my signature on:
--Gain S-OFF
--Custom recovery
--Removing "Tampered" & "Locked"
--Install stock firmware
--Gain S-ON

If you have stock rom, stock firmware with stock recovery, bootloader is locked and you are S-ON then you are back to stock. However, if your bootloader states "Tampered" and/or "Relocked" then the service facility will know that you tampered with the phone. To remove those items:
Unlock bootloader
Follow the steps in nkk71's SuperGuide in my signature on:
--Gain S-OFF
--Custom recovery
--Removing "Tampered" & "Locked"
--Install stock firmware
--Gain S-ON

thanks for your reply.
i guess i was to confused to see that i can remove the tampered and unlocked flags, then restore the stock bootloader and then s-off the phone...i thought i have to remove tampered/unlocked and then s-on the phone in the same step....i guess i have no problem when i can do it like that
Hello there, I posted a while ago because I wasn't able to update my HTC One nor connecting it to usb in any way.
Finally, now I was able to update it over OTA (wifi) and... well it still won't connect to USB.
Right now the phone is sitting at :
Android 5.0.2 Sense 6.0 software 7.19.771.21 and it's a HTC one 3
Strangely enough it's not sim locked cause I tried a vodafone sim earlier and it worked.
So, the main change here is that I was able to boot it into recovery mode but I wouldn't know what to do there.
Any advices on how to proceed to unlock bootloader, s-off and all that wonderfull stuff?
I reiterate that the phone WON'T connect in usb mode, not even in fastboot, looks like.
Thank you very much in advance

Already told you the last time that there is nothing useful in stock recovery, only factory reset.

Fix your usb port first. You must at least be able to use fastboot commands when in bootloader which requires usb connection.

What's the process for going about it? I did do a search, but didn't find anything useful. Any help would be appreciated.
Reasoning: I'm going to be upgrading and turning in the phone, so it's time to put it back to factory.

1. Go back to stock everything by following section 0 of this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/general/guide-how-to-unlock-bootloader-install-t3292684
2. While in bootloader mode, use the fastboot command "fastboot oem lock"
If you're turning in the phone to Verizon, this method is okay. However, don't do this if you plan on selling the phone to someone else. If they were to try and unlock the phone again, they would most likely brick it.
According to jcase relocking the bootloader it still shows a modified status code. Your warranty is permanently voided.
Are you on an Edge plan? Otherwise I don't know why you would be returning the phone to upgrade. Also not sure what their rules are on permanently modifying the software of one of these essentially "lease-to-own" devices, so might want to check the terms and conditions if this applies to you. If you are just trading it in for credit toward a new phone, I'd just sell it yourself unlocked and get a lot more for it.

A bootloader unlocked, rooted XT1254 would be more valuable to a buyer than one locked down. You've already done all the hard work.

Heya so I'm in a serious bind.
I skipped your step 1 and locked my bootloader. I have an unlocked bootloader. I recently upgraded through the normal verizon pushed update the marshmallow update. Anyhow. I now want to return the phone for an upgrade and well... I locked the bootloader. Then turn the phone off and turned it back on and it now says locked, but it says failed to validate system image. I then got freaked out and downloaded all the step 1 files and tried to flash the stock rom (which i already had installed!) and that doesn't seem to work. Did I brick my phone? Is there any way to get it working now that it is locked with any kind of android at all?
You're probably fine @droidfun1. You just need to use the marshmallow firmware package instead of the lollipop one. Get it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/dr...-official-stock-firmware-6-0-1-mcg24-t3531571
Yup, I tried flashing the stock 6.0.1 rom with fastboot on my mac but I got all kinds of fails.
I found a mac compatible command line version of RSDLite and it totally worked! Not sure why fastboot couldn't successfully flash the same stock rom?
Now I just need to remove the bootloader unlocked warning (my phone is now locked status 2), but not sure if I can now that it is locked.

Strange. As far as I understand it, RSDlite just automates fastboot, so even if you're using RSDlite, you're actually using fastboot. Whatever works though.
As for the unlocked bootloader message, see my response to that post you made.
