Pandora/Spotify skips/freezes after use of stock hotspot - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

Just posting this in case someone else is frustrated by the same issue. I was having occasional Pandora and Spotify skips, and both apps were occasionally freezing upon startup that required a reboot to fix (they'd play music, but controls not working, things acting all wonky, etc.). I finally narrowed it down to the use of the stock mobile hotspot (I have free tethering with my family plan, so never messed with that). I tried putting everything as much back to stock as possible, but nothing resolved the issues. I eventually flashed everything fresh, rerooted, reinstalled all user apps, and now Pandora and Spotify are working fine - no more freezing, and I believe this resolved most of the skips and hesitations I was experiencing. I'm not sure what caused the problem in the first place. The only thing I can think of is possibly installing the Xposed framework, which I have not yet done after the fresh flash. I did uninstall Xposed prior to flashing fresh, but that did not resolve the issue (but wondering if Xposed makes changes that aren't undone after uninstall). Anyway, just thought I would post about this since I searched a lot and never found anyone linking the use of mobile hotspot to these kind of Pandora and Spotify issues.

Force close and network errors

Hello,
I have recently begun to experience a major problem with my G1 running the latest builds of Cyanogenmod (currently 4.2.11 but I have had the problem with the last few versions). What happens is that for some reason some apps force close right when I attempt to start them (Google Voice, or any app that has a camera running when it opens) and other apps can not connect to the internet. When I open apps like Pandora or Wapedia it says "A network error occured" or "Could not connect to the servers."
The weirdest part is that not all apps are affected. I can still access the internet through the default browser, and the gmail app. Also the default camera and camcorder apps do not force close and work perfectly. In addition these problems do not arrise for some time after a reinstall.
I have wiped and reinstalled different versions and even started over flashing an HTC update and then returning to a cyanogenmod version. I have wiped all the partitions on my SD card for apps2SD and recreated them. However due to the nature of the problem I have guessed it is some problem with Apps2SD but I cant figure out what it is. I have run the fix_permissions script, and attempted to remove/rebuild the market/app cache.
If anyone knows anything about how to fix this or has experience this before themselves any help would be really awesome. If any more information is needed to help diagnose this problem I will gladly post it.
Thanks again and sorry for the wall of text.
Sorry for self-bumping my post but I would really like some help because I have done everything I know of to fix the problem and looked around the internet for help but I haven't found anything similar to my problem.
Thanks
Im having this problem too and i have no idea what to do about it lol

[Q] Market killing 3G connection

I have a weird problem with my AT&T galaxy tab. For the past couple of days, each time I launch the Market, my 3G connection is killed and I can no longer access the network, and of course I cannot access the market. As soon as I kill the market app, my 3G connection comes back.
I cleared the data and cache of the market app, did not solve the issue. When I uninstall the updates of the market app (reverting to the original ugly market app), everything works fine, but it then automatically updates itself and the problem comes back. I assume this is a problem with the market app itself and not my device (hopefully).
Has anybody else experienced this issue and found a fix?
I am running stock ROM with third party apps installed enables (done it with superoneclick: root, enable third party apps, unroot).
I have the amazon app store installed, so I can still buy new apps, but I would like to be able to get updates for the apps I have purchased from the market.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
What modem are you using? Does the problem happen when you are using wifi? I think the JMF modem that is available for overcome rom is weak and I get many dropped connections and slow data speeds.
I am using the stock ROM and stock modem, I have never flashed a ROM. It only happens with the Market App.
Same issue for me. I have a rooted stock rom.
I have the same issue. Also stock rom and rooted. When WIFI is on (and connected) the market works fine.
I have been beating my head against this since I bought one. I am rooted using....I think I used Super One Click......stock everything else with non-market apps enabled. I originally thought that Root had broken it; however, if I unrooted, reset to factory, I still had the issue.
After many hours at the ATT store and on the phone (and swapping the device once and SIM card twice) I had an epiphany. a Factory Reset does NOT wipe the Internal SD like I thought it did. It leaves /mnt/sdcard/ intact. So, just for kicks, I began looking at my folders here. I MAY have discovered something. Market started working after I restored this folder to it's factory content (deleted any folders having to do with Apps in general).
I can typically hold power, deactivate Data connection, wait a few seconds, re-enable, and I get 3g back (at least for browser and other apps, Market still fails).
I have PSX4Droid installed (PSX Emulator if you don't know). There is a folder here named /.psx4droid, so I renamed it to /psx4droid (If I remember correctly, doesn't the "." hide the folder......too long since Linux class). I then deactivated/reactivated my data, and the Market started working properly.
I am not sure if it has to do SPECIFICALLY with psx4droid or just the "Hidden" folder in general, but now my Market works. I have 2 more folders in this location (/.downloadTemp and /.FileExpert) that may/may not cause any problems. I will post my findings.
.....Okay, so I'm going to type what I write now....Market just failed. Now I'm renaming /.FileExpert....Let's see what happens......
Damn. Still fails. But I'm tellin' ya. There is something in this folder causing it.
Or maybe some app is causing it to break......I have Amazon App store installed, what about you guys?
I do have Amazon App installed.
Anybody with an AT&T Tab not having the issue?
Same issue here. I had the Amazon Appstore installed but uninstalled it probably a week afterwards. Rooted running stock, everytime I go into the market it crashes the 3g. I found a folder in sdcard/android/data that had a bunch of appstore files in it. I deleted that and still having the same issue. I have removed all 3rd party apps so I have no idea what is triggering this. Please help.
P.S. I can access the market on WiFi
This also happens to be sometimes, if you tap wifi on then off again your 3g should come back and work fine.
swyped from a galaxy far far away...
Unfortunately what you proposed did not work. The market is killing the network connection each and every time. The network connection only comes back when the market app is not active anymore.
Since everything works fine when the market upgrades are uninstalled, I really think it is a bug in the newer version of market. Hopefully, the next update will fix this.
Maybe when Gingerbread is out!
I'm thinking this has more to do with us having installed amazon appstore before it was supposed to be. Somebody is mad at us
Has anyone made any progress on this situation?
Sent from my SGH-I987 using XDA App
I really wish I would have made more progress. After all the trouble I had with the device with this issue, I was seriously monitoring the apps I installed and then testing the Market. I gave up after a while since I am on Wifi 90% of the time and hardly ever do I access the Market while driving. I still have a feeling that something in /mnt/sdcard is causing it. Like I had mentioned, I could wipe back to factory and the problem was still there. I seem to remember that it only started working proper after I had cleared this location of crap. I would think that a Market update would see a larger group of affected tabs than just a handful of us. This doesn't seem to be a widespread issue.
That being said......I have decided to move on to Gingerbread. Maybe that'll fix it
Hey guys, try this. Worked for me and my Data problems with Gingerbread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13751694&postcount=6
Basically create a new APN inside Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names. Only set the APN to "Broadband," save it (Menu button) and select the radio button for it. Instantly fixed my data issues.
Thank for the tip. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. I am running stock 2.2 and waiting for the official 2.3 update from AT&T.
Good Luck. I thought about waiting for the official.....but I also have a Captivate. We didn't get 2.2 until MONTHS after the rest of the world (I think it was like 5 or 6 months later). I didn't want to wait that long again.

Could you please report if the problem fixed with Gingerbread ?
At first I didn't have ANY cellular data until I created a new APN mentioned in the tagged thread (APN Broadband). Now I have no issues with Market. I wish I could trust AT&T to release Gingerbread in a timely fashion, but I know better. So instead, I flashed Overcome.
P.S. I really can't enough of the CRT lock animation......damn I'm such a geek....

[SOLVED] (I think) Problem with Google services

So i had posted before that I was having issues with my Google services. I was unable to get into Play Store, Gmail, Hangouts, anything that goes through a Google server. I tried wiping everything, force stopping, clearing cache, all the basic fixes. It worked again after I would flash a new ROM for a while. Nobody could figure it out. Samsung was stumped, AT&T was stumped, and a few guys on here were stumped. AT&T sent me a new phone and things were working great. Rooted, ROMd, everything. Went about using my phone as normal. Then, a couple days ago, the same thing started to happen.
A thought popped into my head today. On all ROMs I tried to use I always installed Freedom for free in-app purchases. I also installed it on this phone, but only on the custom ROM. I have been using the stock ROM perfectly. I went into Freedom and stopped it properly by pulling up the settings menu and hitting Stop. Then I uninstalled it. Straight away I went to Play Store and I had access again. Same for Gmail.
So my assumption is that Freedom caused the issue. It took a while because I havn't used Freedom in a month or so and the issue just started happening. However, once I removed it properly everything worked fine. When I wiped my old phone I never removed Freedom so i'm not sure if that messed something up that a basic factory reset couldn't fix. The other reason this is an assumption is because I was not able to test this on my old phone. But I figured I would let you guys know. If you have issues with Google services and have Freedom installed, try uninstalling it. But first, MAKE SURE YOU STOP IT FROM THE IN APP SETTINGS!

39A issues with exchange

I recently went back to stock after Verizon released their 39A update. So far I love it, and they've seemed to fix a lot of what I didn't like about their Kit Kat ROM (mainly the UI design). However, there is something that I've been experiencing that I wanted to share with anyone else on 39A, and see if anyone else has experienced it.
From what I can gather, as soon as I add my work email to my phone, which is an Exchange account, the phone seems to slow to a crawl when it comes to anything to do with data. Browsing the web, downloading stuff from the Play Store, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr... anything that uses either wifi or LTE takes forever to load. The odd thing is that it almost seems like something is halting the data from coming through, and then releases it after a minute or so, and then things download super fast.
After much frustration and testing, I finally saw a pattern. It slowed down almost immediately after I added the Exchange account. Not having my work email on my phone is not an option as I am a IT Help Desk Technician who travels to different locations and need access to my email when not on my laptop or desktop computer.
Eventually, I decided I'd try and see what would happen if I switched the update schedule from Push to Fetch. Voila. Now my phone's fast again. Having my Gmail account set to push doesn't cause any problems. Only my Exchange account.
All that to say, I was wondering if anyone else has had this particular experience, and if so, whether or not they have found a solution or workaround other than the one I found. I concede that this could also have something to do with how my work's Exchange server is set up, or what version of Exchange Server we're running, but this never happened before 39A. Never happened on Stock or any of the other ROMs I've run (CM, Mahdi, etc.), both KitKat and Lollipop.
Hi,
I just upgraded to 39a (xdaddeb version) and I don't have that issue. Did tried with pure stock?
Glad you problem solved the issue. You could also boot the phone into Safe Mode. I was running 5.0.2 and didn't have the problem using 39A with exchange.
So I've meant to update this thread, but I found out that it actually isn't exchange causing the issue. I went a few days without having an exchange account on my computer and it eventually slowed down again same as before. At one point I was playing around with some settings and noticed that my cellular data was set to Global instead of LTE, and when I changed it, it sped up again. Then, a few days later, it slowed down again.
It's a peculiar slowness too; it's as though something is hanging the download for about 20 seconds, and then everything downloads at once. One example is if I "cold" launch Play Store, all the images will be blank for about 10-20 seconds, and then they'll all come in at once. Whenever I am running a custom ROM, in this case Cyanogenmod 12, everything loads almost instantly.
Any time I go back to stock, I use the KDZ method. I have not tried a debloated version of 39A, and at this point I'm burnt out on trying to get stock 39A to work properly. It's so annoying to try and show someone an instagram photo I've taken, only for it to take 20 seconds just to load my gallery.
Update (6/16/2015, 10:37am): So I'm trying xdabbeb's 39A debloated ROM, and so far so good. I've made sure my mobile data system setting is set to LTE and not global, and already it just feels faster and more lightweight than the stock ROM. Less RAM usage as well. I have yet to add an exchange account, and I typically start to experience the slowness once I'm on my home wifi, which I am not right now. I hope this works, I really like LG's lollipop ROM.
Update (6/16/2015, 5:34pm): Just got home and connected to my wireless access point, and still running like a champ. Looks like going debloated was the answer. Must be some bloatware app in the stock version that causes the issue. Not sure exactly what xdabbeb removes from the stock version for his debloated ROM, but kudos man.

Pixel 5 rebooting only with mobile data

Hi there,
in November last year I bought a brand new Google Pixel 5 and I gotta say that I'm quite happy with it, however there's been something quite annoying: sometimes it freezes and reboots itself when I'm using mobile data. I tried to figure out what was causing the issue and why it only happens when I'm using mobile data but I can't really find an answer. If I use WiFi, everything is fine, I can listen to the radio, watch videos on YouTube, have Teams calls, browse the web with Chrome etc, however if I try to do the very same things with mobile data in 4G (there's no 5G coverage in my area) it freezes and then reboots. It doesn't always happen, it seems to be happening randomly and I have no idea why. After rebooting, the app that crashed still has something in memory and if I try to open it without killing it first, it will immediately freeze the phone again and make it reboot again. It happened while I was watching videos on Facebook, it happened while I was watching videos on YouTube, it happened while I was browsing with Chrome, it happened during a Discord call, it happened during a telegram call, it happened while I was checking the NHS COVID-19 app... It can occur after few hours or several times an hour and I don't know what's causing it. Android is a Linux like OS, is there a way to check the journal and see what's happening? And on top of that, is there a way to let Google know and make Android automatically report crashes? The phone is still new, it's not rooted and I've only unlocked the developers options to force the refresh rate to 90Hz but that's it. I reached out to Google and they offered to replace the phone as soon as I send it (RMA) however I would like to find out first whether it's really an hardware problem or if it's Android 11 being unstable. I do have all the OS updates and all the apps are updated. What do you think? Oh last but not least, the SIM ain't an eSIM, it's a physical SIM placed inside the phone.
thank you in advance,
Frank

Have you tried resetting your network in settings? Were you using this same SIM in your old phone with no issues, or was it new? Have you tried to replicate the issue in safe mode to rule out an errant app? If resetting network doesn't work, just back up your data and factory reset the phone. Google may have suggested this already. It's pretty much their automatic response before RMA. Cheers.
Of course I tried to reset my phone and start from scratch but it didn't help. As to the SIM, it has been working fine on my old phone for years so it's not the one causing the issue. Besides, if I disable mobile data but I still use the phone to call other people using the carrier network, it doesn't have any issues at all. As to safe mode, it happened with Chrome and YouTube, standard Google apps, so I can rule out third party apps altogether. It's really weird.
I made a few more tests and it seems to be related to GPU Hardware acceleration. I said that it happened on Facebook, YouTube and Chrome and I thought about the common factor: I was watching videos. It happened while I was on Facebook watching videos, it happened while I was on YouTube watching videos and it happened while I was on Chrome visiting a website which had an ad in which there was a video playing.
Oh and it also happened when I opened the camera 'cause... guess what? Video!
What puzzles me is that it only happens in 4G but not in WiFi and I can't think of any possible reason why it's only occurring with mobile data...
Ok after trying to understand what happened I was finally able to solve the issue and it wasn't an hardware fault nor it was related to video. It was me using IPSec Xauth PSK with Always on VPN turned on. It turns out that using a third party application to connect via Open VPN fixed the issue. It's now more than a week and I've never had a single reboot or freeze or crash. I have no idea why, but all I can say is "stay away from IPSec Xauth PSK" guys, there's something deeply broken there. Anyway, I'm glad everything turned out to be ok.
Cheers,
Frank
