I've gotta vs980 that's survived my noobish manipulations so far.
The battery went dead and it doesn't recognize USB cable charging, either from PC or an AC adapter.... Before I can fix it I've gotta get the battery back up. I suspect there is something inside I need to "reset" (undo and redo, toggle) so the battery will take power?
I've found this post ........ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56608822&postcount=2
Is THAT the fix? Or is there some other means to repair this? Also the download links for repair manual are broken-- anyone have good download repair manual?
THANK YOU

Could REALLY use some help here. Yeah I've used search, seen nothing for phone won't power on or acknowlege USB connection
The repair Manual for vs980 has been found, shared herevs980 Repair Manual
The phone will not power on no matter what button combinations are pressed for no matter how long.
The phone will not acknowlege USB connection of any kind, from either PC or AC adapter.
After opening it up, fiddling with the battery connector, The only "visible" evidence of USB connection is with the battery cable OPEN (no batt) we get

And with the inner connector re-attached to the battery we get
Error -110, battery connected
USB error -110 means power exceeded, the host could not provide enough electric power for the device to operate. Without enough power USB device cannot provide the device descriptor to the host
My guess is with the connector in contact, USB tries to charge the battery, none gets to the vs980 itself. With battery connector open, USB sees it as a modem, as there's no power to the eMMC (storage) so storage not visible.
Someone mentioned would have to reset the CHARGE circuit? I am looking @ manual for some means to "reset the charging IC" it's mentioned but the means to DO IT are omitted.... Any ideas, links,. instruction to get the phone to where it's alive enough to get a new boot stack in there? (I've found several different ways none of which work cause there's no power to the phone)
Does just appear to be dead (and need some unknown hardware fix) or is it in fact totally dead -- or is only the motherboard dead (replace that?)
Please advise

My MI-410 is bricked. It is not booting up, no keypad lights. At first tried to connect it to my laptop without inserting battery and then insered the battery. The phone started at that time.
But then it again bricked after 2-3 days. And it is not starting since then. I tried the the same procedure but no help now.
I tried the procedure on different computers too, but no help.
Please help me, as I really loved my device. It is completely dead. At service center they said "We can't help you". They can't do it.
Any help will be appreciated.

how did it happen...
just try to boot in fast boot mode. if this works your MI410 is not yet dead.
In case you had nandroid backup before everything went wrong, you should be able to restore your system from recovery.......

Can't open boot mode. The problem happened since when I was flashing a new ROM at midnight. I got asleep and my phone was in CWM recovery for whole night.
When I wake up, the battery was gone and my device too.
None of the methods work. No boot options nothing. Only red LED notification light when connected to Laptop.

plug it to the power socket for few(2-3) hrs without doing any thing. then ur phone should get back to normal.(dont use laptop for charging for this time)
this happened to me once. this is because of zero charge in the battery. the battery needs some juice to become normal.
else you can try to switch ON with spare battery if you have one.

Went to a mobile repairing shop. They said its a hardware issue, and they mend it for around 450 INR.
Feels a good deal. Lets see what they can do. Will go there today.
Meanwhile thanks @reversegear for your kind help.
Also my battery feels a little inflated, maybe the battery is also gone.
Hoping for the best.
My Z3C's USB port has become unresponsive, it wont charge the phone nor connect to a computer.
The phone itself works as it should, apart from the USB.
It does sense that it is plugged into a charger when in an off state and boots into the battery charging screen however no charging takes place and there's no animation of the battery icon or change in the percentage. The magnetic charging port does work though.
I can't get my computer to recognise the phone in either standard mode, fastboot or flash. However when connected by USB I can get the phone into fastboot (steady blue) or flash mode (red/green flash), it's just my computer doesn't pick up anything.
I've tried several cables, chargers and computers so all that can be ruled out.
I've verified the continuity between the end of the USB port (that connects to the computer/charger) to the pins soldered to the main board of the phone. Everything seems fine. I reflowed the solder of the USB connector just to be sure.
I'm at a loss, anyone got any ideas?

if phone has warranty use it, i had this problem in some phones sometimes mic fails as well and I had to change usb flex for galaxy s2 and 3. Sometimes is for humidity on usb flex.
I've just been inspecting the mainboard closely near the usb port and I think there's a component missing. No idea how it has become detached.
The phone is an ebay salvage project, but I'm sure when I received it I could charge it fine through the USB port although it wasn't soon after that it started having problems. Now I'm doubting myself that it ever charged in the first place.
Anyway I'm now looking for a high res photo of the Z3C mainboard (battery side). I've got a dead Z1C with the same components near the USB port but as the components are arranged in a different orientation I'm unsure of which way round to solder it to the Z3C.

Okay, well if you can figure out how to bypass the port and charge the battery directly then try that. If it boots up, how is it not charging? second and last question, do you own a factory cable?
please quote me so I get the notification of your reply.

Hey, the only way I think I can charge the battery is by removing it from the device and chopping up an old USB cable and putting the two wires directly into the battery. If watched numerous videos on YouTube. And I have a factory cable I made for a different Kindle. The Kindle won't do n e thing. If I plug the normal charger in the underside of the Kindle gets warm but that's about it. No flashing lights, no charge icon on screen. Thank you for you're reply.
I have a mi a2 and it has some problem with charging. Whenever i connect it to a charger, it charges for a second, then stops and then starts again. Because of this, i cannot charge my phone when its on. To charge it, i have to turn it OFF and then it charges VERY slowly and gets to about 80% overnight after 8-9 hrs.
I have tried charging it with different cables so its def. a phone issue.
I know its not a software issue because my phone just got the android 10 update and its still not charging.
After reading some forums, i figured out i should replace the USB port as its the most fragile part. So i bought a usb flex port from ebay and replaced the original port, but then the phone stopped charging completely.
It still kept doing the stupid charging-not charging cycle, but when powered off, it couldnt charge.
Im not sure now if I should buy battery from ebay or not because i think i got ripped with the usb port.
BTW i live in Denmark and i have imported an Indian model and there are absolutely no shops here that repair Xiaomi phones.
What should i do? Suggestions?
Edit: im not sure if this is related or not, but i started getting the problem after i tried charging the phone with a pixel fast charger
This is definitely the hardware problem.
Either your cable , voltage or power related circuits.
However, I don't think it's battery problem.
Consider your situation, I think find a electrician, or electrical engineer (who can deal with electrical board) is highly recommend.

In my MI A2 device, I've been using custom rom and whenever i plugged in my device there is no charging when phone is on so I've to switch off the phone to charge it and when i connect it to laptop it is not showing as well. I've done everything in my knowledge to remove this problem and atlast I've to roll back to stock firmware of device running on Android 10 but that problem is not gone completely. In status bar there is a permanent pop up of ''Charging connected device via USB" and when i plugged my device I've to switch it to 'This Device' from 'Controlled Device' in USB Preferences. It is not charging normally when i plugged in.
please share any answer regarding that I've done everything but can't fix it.

I have a relative that has a A21 that all of a sudden wouldnt power up, they brought it in to the cellular provider and was told they needed a new battery.
A new battery was installed but this did not correct the issue.
Currently new battery installed, but no signs of life when pressing power button, and also no signs of life if plugged into usb charger.
Where can I start to troubleshoot. Im pretty proficient with troubleshooting as well as soldering. Is anyone out there that can help me get this going again?
All I need to get is the info off of the phone, picture, audio messages etc. there are some messages from siblings on it that have passed away, so Im doing everything I can to try to retrieve any of hte info retained on the phone.
The phone is currently mostly disassembled, I was trying to just test the power button to see if that was the issue, but no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Power port pcb maybe, replace.
Check all ribbon cables, inspect and make sure they are properly installed and no bent pins.
Check battery connection. Is the battery good?
Otherwise a mobo failure may be the cause.
Did it get wet? Dropped? How did the failure start?

Ok, Is there a good resource for diagrams/schematics somewhere that I can reference? I have checked and the battery seems to be good, showing around 3.8v
It is strange because it doesnt look like it got wet at all, and it was not dropped, it's in otherwise excellent physical condition.
Just stopped turning on.
