Stuck in bootloader/recovery - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i've bought an htc one m7 stuck in bootloader, trying to fix it.. this is what I see in bootloader
** TAMPERED **
** UNLOCK **
** Security Warning **
M7_U PVT SHIP S-ON RH
HBOOT-1.57.000
RADIO-4T.28.3218.04
OpenDSP-V32.120.274.0909
eMMC-boot 2048MB
i've tried to unlock bootloader, succesfully and after the reboot it access directly in twrp 2710 recovery (maybe the previous owner flashed it)..
so, i go in advanced, then in adb sideload to transfert a custom rom (eg. revolution) but my phone switch off the screen and my pc try to install qhsusb_dload driver, without success.. so, I press the power button for 20sec (circa) and switch off completly.. and back again in bootloader, that relock automatically every reboot...
how can i fix it? :crying:
Thanks!

Ah.. Another thing that I have noticed is that in twrp the driver isn't installed by windows.. In "device management" I see a "one" device with a yellow exclamation (I've installed htc sync) .. Windows can't find any compatible driver in my PC.. if i look into hardware details, this is the id:
USB\VID_18D1&PID_D001&REV_0228
EDIT: about the driver i've installed it modifying android_winusb.inf adding this lines:
;HTC ONE(MOD)
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_D001
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_D001&REV_0228

in x64 section .. i don't know if i done it well but now when i'm in twrp windows recognize phone, seen as "Android Phone - Android Composite ADB inteface" without the exclamation mark and if I do "adb devices" in prompt it sees my device (seen as it's serial number) and near it "recovery"..
P.S. Why every time the phone is rebooted it relock the bootloader automatically and I have to unlock again to access the recovery?

You need to flash a firmware package, or at very least a stock recovery. I have searched all over the net but I can't find any thing not even an OTA.zip
I think your version main would be 5.12.901.3 since that appears to be the latest version with hboot 1.57. But there simply aren't any files for that.
Best suggestion I have for now is, as your able to unlock. Unlock the bootloader
Code:
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
and flash an unbranded stock recovery this one maybe https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95864024717070745
Then use that to do a factory reset. Reboot and see if its locked. If it is unlock again with
Code:
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Check to see if problem is resolved.

But, every time that I unlock bootloader the phone automatically goes in recovery, so I can't type the second command "fastboot erase cache", because if I reboot again in bootloader is again relocked.. :/

But how can you boot a custom rom with a relocked bootloader? Are you able to unlock flash a rom then boot to Android? Or does it relock when you reboot after flashing the rom?

But when I unlock bootloader and the phone reboots directly in recovery, in that session, while I'm in recovery, they bootloader isn't unlocked?
I've never tried to flash a rom because adb sideload or adb push seems that don't work..

It must be unlocked otherwise the custom recovery wouldn't load. So you could push and install a rom, but after its installed the rom you will need to reboot. If the bootloader locks it won't boot the custom rom.
You could also try to dd (direct dump) a stock recovery while your in custom recovery. Maybe that would help?

adb push a rom.zip to your phone while booted to recovery (adb push nameofrom.zip /sdcard/) This will take a while. Once it's done, try flashing the ROM and see if you profit.
There have been times that somehow other things get corrupted to a point where nothing will mount so nothing will flash. Sometimes fastboot erase cache will work, but almost always relocking and reunlocking your bootloader, then adb pushing a rom, then flashing the rom will work
TWRP also has a sideload feature (advanced>sideload)
Code:
adb sideload name_of_rom.zip

Where can I find the Stock rom for my phone model (version-main: 3.18.709.2)? Or can I flash another ROM like CM10?
TWRP is available only to use with the phone or Windows too?
My phone is without any data in storage.

Can you still access bootloader (vol- and pwr from off)? If so, from fastboot, go ahead and flash a custom recovery (TWRP) with "fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img". Now reboot bootloader, and boot to recovery. Then you can try either sideloading a ROM (any custom ROM), or adb pushing the ROM to the device, and then flashing. Either way - you'll need custom recovery since your bootloader is unlocked. Alternatively, you would need to relock the bootloader, then find the 3.18.709.2 RUU (or newer x.x.709.x RUU) and run it from fastboot.

Yes, I can access the Bootloader. Where can I find this custom recovery? I dot not have any backup :/
I guess the 1st option (flash with "fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img) is the easiest way to bring it back to live!!

Relock your bootloader, then htcdev unlock it again. Than start the process over (fastboot flash recovery then adb push or sideload the Rom). I've had this happen a couple times and each time this has fixed me

Bricked Bootloader

Hey guys,
slowly I really get in trouble. I think the bootloader is bricked and i can use the phone as a door stopper.
I tell you what happens:
Long time ago i decided to root my phone. so I unlocked it via htcdev.com. After success I wanted to S-Off the bootloader with revone. But it failed, because of hboot 1.54.
Then I installed ARHD via TWRP and flashed boot.img via fastboot.
Long time every thing went fine, until yesterday it stoped to work and started bootloops. I managed to start the bootloader but nothing else. No ROM, no recovery (stucks on first twrp screen).
bootloader info says:
Code:

What i tried until now (without any results):
"fastboot erase cache" to get access to recovery
"fastboot oem reboot RUU" to install a new hboot --> boots to white "quietly brilliant" screen, reboots then to bootloader
It would be great if someone can help me or can give me some tipps to unbrick this phone.
Thanks to all helpers.

What RUU did you flash? Seeing as you're S-off you need to be extremely careful with RUUs and you might have flashed the wrong one, if you've flashed a downgrade then your device is bricked.
I didn't flashed any ruu. I only flashed the recovery and the boot.img for Arhd.
Until now I didn't flashed any firmware.

Your bootloader is absolutely fine, it's just your recovery/rom. Just reflash both and you'll be good to go.

Another question:
I've read that I need the hboot 1.55 for Android 4.3, and Arhd 30 is based on 4.3. So I have to update the bootloader anyway?

Nope, you don't *need* 1.55 for a 4.3 rom, you'll be good with 1.54. If you OTA or RUU, it'll update automatically.

mh, seems more difficult to be.
fastboot erase cache -> says okay
fastboot flash recovery cwm.img -> says "okay"
fastboot reboot-bootloader -> reboots phone to white HTC bootscreen, then I reboot to hboot manually and choose recovery. twrps want to boot (but freeze)
It seems to me, that the command to flash the recovery didn't worked very well. What can I still do?

try flashing the latest TWRP recovery. It can be found somewhere around here....
You can always try just restoring via RUU too, you just need to be in fastboot mode in order for it to work.

I did so. same results.
Fastboot reboot-bootloader -> reboots phone normal
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img -> twrp won't start
Try re flashing the hboot then, but you have to be s-off to do this. The only other way I can think of is RUU

ur experiencing problems so try these two methods:
1.) Extract the zip and flash the recovery the usual way
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
2.) open the zip file and edit the android text file in accordance to ur mid cid and mainver save and save it.You will need stock recovery for this method if dont have it here is the link https://www.dropbox.com/s/wq2t9fctnn9186j/stockrecovery.img
to flash stock recovery follow the steps in method 1 then follow the steps given below :
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot oemRUU
fastboot flash zip zipfilename.zip
then it will fail once
again the same command
fastboot flash zip zipfilename.zip
when it shows it is finished in cmd type
fastboot reboot-bootloader
either of them should lead to a working recovery

yep:
fastboot flash recovery <name of recovery>.img
fastboot erase cache <- if you dont do this after flashing a recovery, it will most like either freeze or reboot without entering recovery
fastboot reboot-bootloader
-> enter RECOVERY
BTW: I took a look at the screenshot, does it really say in red text OS-2.24X161XX (!RR!XXXX) ??

He has S-ON so careful flashing firmware! It has to be signed and it's a one way ticket with S-On, no downgrade possible. And remember "fastboot flash zip zipfilename.zip" usually has to be done twice (the first one usually fails and says "FAILED flush again immediately" the second time it should show success)

you mean "edit the android text file in accordance to ur mid cid and mainver save and save it"? He can give it a try but I don't think it will work, as soon as he edits the android.txt file, the firmware.zip will become unsigned, and won't pass with S-On.

Wow, sounds like a headache! If I understand you, the problem may have started when you tried to install a .zip from HTC (a.k.a., RUU), instead of a custom ROM packaged as a .zip? (The formatting is very different, and I don't know what CWM/TWRP will do when given the wrong type.) Does this sound right? If so:
When the phone is booted into TWRP, can the computer detect it with "adb devices"? (You need to install the appropriate drivers, and install ADB, and run it properly so it doesn't just say "command not found".)
If I misunderstood your problem, have you tried using TWRP to back up your data, wipe data, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache, then reboot and wait 5 minutes for the phone to boot the first time?

Ya it happened something like that.
When the phone is booted into TWRP and by adb devices command I get the below
C:\fastboot>adb devices

I have tried backingup by TWRP adn wiped data cache dalvik cache and reboot, but it gets rebooting into recovery
Computer doent detect the sdcard, TWRP shows no OS!
I tried ADB sideload to install custom rom but it shows error..

Seems like maybe you don't have the right drivers. Your phone isn't being detected. No ADB stuff (push or sideload) will work until you sort that out. (I don't use Windows, so I can't help much when it comes to driver info.)

1- edit your post and remove IMEI, you shouldn't share that information publicly!!
2- then:
get TWRP from:
2.6.3.3: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
or 2.6.3.4: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7ul
(make sure MD5 is correct, that site does not play nice with download managers)
2.7.0.4b: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708134
in bootloader/FASTBOOT USB:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
enter recovery, now trwp, if adb devices doesn't show your phone, then go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52135024&postcount=2
and fix Windows Device Manager as mentioned in FAQ#2, then you can continue.

[Q] Htc One M7- deleted operating system. Relocked bootloader

Hi guys,
I have a big problem with my HTC One. I wanted to give it to the service, but it costs a lot of money, maybe I will find some help on XDA hopefully.

I deleted my system partition in twrp recovery. I can get only to bootloader and recovery. I am S-ON all the time, cannot get S-OFF, I get errors all the time using rum runner or firewater. When I type fastboot oem lock, I am stuck in bootloader, cannot enter recovery. Then the bootloader says ***TAMPERED*** ***RELOCKED*** ***SECURITY WARNING***. I really don't know what to do, I'm stuck. Please help :C !!!

You should remove your imei and serialno in your previous post. You can use this stock rom zip to go back to stock. It is the same version that you have. Your bootloader must be LOCKED or RELOCKED. Move the file to your adb/fastboot folder and rename it rom.zip. Open a command window on the same folder then type the following:
Code:
[B][I]adb reboot bootloader[/I][/B]
After that, type:
Code:
[B][I]fastboot oem rebootRUU [/I][/B]
NOTE: You should see a silver HTC logo come up on your phone after executing this command.
NOTE: if this command freezes, just disconnect the USB cable and hold the power and volume down buttons until the device reboots. Then, repeat the steps above again.
Finally:
Code:
[B][I]fastboot flash zip rom.zip[/I][/B]
Repeat the same command: IMPORTANT
Code:
[B][I]fastboot flash zip rom.zip[/I][/B]
NOTE: The green bar on the phone may not go to 100% of the bar ... but If you see completed on your computer command window, wait for a few seconds and move on.
Last Step:
Code:
[B][I]fastboot reboot[/I][/B]

I'm downloading zip file now (slow internet 2 hours remaining). I will try your method, and let you know how it went.
doesn't work ;/
@majmoz , it doesn't work .
I did everything you said and when flashing it says "FAILED (remote: 12 signature verify fail)". Did this command 2 times as you instructed.
The second thing is that the "adb reboot bootloader" command didn't work, cmd said that device not found.
What should I do ?

Does you bootloader still say "Relocked"? Let try to run the stock firmware 5.11.401.10 using the same method, just rename the download to firmware.zip change the rom.zip in the procedure to firmware.zip.
For adb not working take a look at FAQ Q#2.
My bootloader says TAMPERED RELOCKED SECURITY WARNING
I don't think adb works in bootloader, right ?
The firmware.zip worked, (there was the green bar etc.), but the phone is still not rebooting into system.
hmm... there is no custom recovery anymore, just a phone with red sign. And in bootloader it says only tampered and relocked. Without security warning. @majmoz

You are correct adb does not work in bootloader. When the firmware completed it installed the stock recovery. Since you erased the system partition there is no OS installed. You can try to run the RUU again and it will probably pass now since you have the correct firmware. If this is successful, you will have stock rom and stock firmware on your phone.
What did you mean by give to service?

@majmoz I don't think this zip can be flashed using "fastboot flash zip rom.zip", with s-on he can only flash signed ruu from HTC and afaik, htc never released any 5.11.401.10 signed ruu
There is a flashable aroma zip (guru reset) for his version here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358543706
to be flashed with a custom recovery (require to unlock the bootloader again)
Yeah @alray , I need to have a 5.11.401.10 signed RUU, but there is no such file avaible to download.
Now, I will unlock my bootloader again, flash custom recovery (TWRP) , and try flash guru reset in this recovery.
Well, I don't really remember, but I think I tried this (maybe with not the same version of guru reset), but I was stuck on "Installation procces" It was 0 % all the time. Let's see how it works out this time with this version of guru.
@alray
I unlocked my bootloader, flashed TWRP, I used adb to push the .zip to sdcard, but the problem now is that the phone says that unable to mount '/data' and unable to mount internal storage. When I click mount in recovery the "data" box doesn't wanna tick .
What should I do ? I'm tired of this ...
Ok, what happened next... I finally did what @alray told me to do. I managed to fix the corrupted data partition, but as I said earlier, when I flash the guru reset in recovery, and start the installation process, it is stuck on 0.00%.
I unlocked the bootloader in order to do this.
No more ideas ? @majmoz ?

What version of TWRP are you using? 2.6.3.3 or 2.8.0.1? I'm pretty sure you checked the MD5 of the files you downloaded.

You should always check the MD5 of downloaded files to ensure they did not get corrupted during the downloading process. The MD5 is generally noted on the download site. Here is a how to check the MD5.
I also recommend to use 2.6.3.3 instead of 2.8+
Ohh my god, finally did it !!! Thank you a lot guys !!! I was trying guru reset earlier with unlocked bootloader too, but the twrp version was wrong... ohh, everything because of this new version of twrp.... But thanks, I have my system back . I will be able to do OTA updates now ?

Boot the phone in bootloader, connect it to your computer, select "fastboot" and make sure "fastboot usb" is shown in red.
Then open your command prompt from your "minimal adb and fastboot" folder
then in the command prompt type:

Copy/paste the output here except for your IMEI/Serial number.

Like I said at post #2, don't post your IMEI so edit your above post and remove it.
You said that your phone was S-OFF but I can see Its S-ON? You turned back S-ON?
Unlock your bootloader
Flash TWRP recovery
Restore the 5.16.111.4 twrp nandroid backup
flash the 5.16.111.4 stock recovery
boot the phone in the system check for ota updates and install all ota updates from 5.16.111.4 to 7.18.111.2

Download the nandroid back and extract all files to your desktop. Boot in custom recovery (TWRP) a make a backup of "boot" only (this is only to generate the backup path on your phone). once done go to "my computer --> HTC One --> Internal Storage --> TWRP --> Backups --> Your serial number --> today's date backup" Erase all file in this folder (these are your boot backup files) and replace them with the files previously extracted on your desktop. Once done go in twrp "restore" menu and restore the backup, select all partition available to restore (system, boot, data).
Flashing the stock recovery is the same process as flashing a custom one
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_file.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
