Could you plz list what you use to custom recovery/ backup , and explain where efs is , its the entire file system? Does kies do that? Philz seems popular. What did you use to root too please

For me Philz is the best. Efs is on the root ( \ ) of your telephone, you can find it after root. Simply use Es File Manager whit root permission. For root I use autoroot chainfire with ODIN

[Q] How to root nexus one 2.3.6 with locked boatloder

Hi guys
Can any one tell me how to root nexus one 2.3.6 ,i have locked boatloader.
zahid
Try SuperOneClick
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
or unlock the bootloader, fastboot custom recovery and flash ROM of choice.
Try this

Use this. I just rooted my stock 2.3.6 nexus using this method. Takes less then a minute once everything is downloaded. Just make sure to extract all the files into the same location as the adb.exe file. Usually its in android/platform-tools.
Good luck and let us know if you have any questions.
BTW it does not unlock you bootloader either!

Is that a compulsion that super one click must be in the same location as adb n sdk tools?
Cos i rooted my stock 2.3.3 using the same method last month
But had it in different directories c: n e:

You're good to go. Just install a custom recovery
CWM or Amon Ra, you can install them via Rom Manger.
hi
I tried to install custom ROM but when phone reboot it stuck on "triangle android" seems first i have to unlock my boatloader.
Can you post me link..
It means that you didn't flash the file that removes stock recovery reinstaller - and stock recovery is reinstalled on stock ROM boot.
Reboot back to ROM, root again, this time when you reboot to recovery first time, flash the file. It's found in Nexus One Wiki, section "Recovery".

Its not at all necessary to unlock the bootloader. Did u install custom recovery before flashing a custom rom? I think u skipped that step.
Simple and best way for starters like us is to
1.root via super one click root
2. Install rom manager from market and wid the help of that, flash clockworkmod(cwm) recovery.
3. Install Titanium backup from market and do a backup up of ur apps.
4. Choose the correct rom of ur choice by reading the OP and the thread.
5. Download it and install it via rom manager.
6. Before that back up your current rom and wipe the system, cache, dalvik cache.
Thats it, u r good to go.
This is how i did n doing good
PS: Am just a newbie, so if there's any mistakes in my steps pls correct me.

question,,, what the advantage of having boatloader unlock?and wat is its use...?
Does SuperOneClick works on Nexus One stock rom 2.3.6?
I went for it and it works. i now have root on my N1 stock 2.3.6!

Can't Root Samsung Galaxy Ace 2.3.6 XWKT4

Hi i tryed all the ways to root my Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830), SuperOneClick, upd_1.zip
I get the superuser application on it but doesn't give me root acces, so its still not rooted,
All applications that requires rooted phone don't work, super user doesn't show any allow
notifications, has no apps in its list when i open it, tryed modifing settings in it still no succes....
Model Number: GT-S5830
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: S5830XWKT4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-perf-CL965213 [email protected] #1
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.HRKT2
I googled a lot, tryed a lot, no succes, please help!
EDIT:
I did it!
I know this is an old Thread but I wanted to post that I did and how I did it: The problem was because of my stock rom limited space so I used thinkdroid.apk_removal.zip to remove thinkdroid from device and free space for full super user installation was now there, and afther the thinkdroid.apk every root atempt worked flawlesly.
The problem was because of the Hugo Boss Rom that had a limited internal memory, ow and I needed to delete everything on internal memory, so if someone is having the same problem:
1 factory reset
2 from recovery flash thinkdroid removal
3 flash root_upd1 (or any root zip for sga)
done
Can u uninstall the superuser app?

I did exactly like in the tutorials, I copied the root.zip to sd card, putted device in recovery mod, update from sd card, reboot, got super user on device but, no root acces, so i "unrooted" my device, to delete the unworking superuser, how do i make it work ? please help... In the tutorials there is nothing sayed about flashing( I don't know well this term I think it means installing operating sistem on device) I don't want to flash a nother operating sistem version of android, I just want to root my device. Make the superuser work, grant root acces for applications...
Video example of what i did [update data from sdcard] : youtube video /watch?v=rUSn0E_dWMg (and unrooted and tryed a lot of diferent root.zip files none worked... unrooted and wiped to factory settings after every fail...)

SO i need to flash cfroot kernel, afther that the superuser app will work fine, my device will have ropot acces, and apps that needs root acces will work? can i flash a cfroot kernel via recovery mod/ update from sdcard ?
1. Backup everything on your device
2. Do a factory reset
3. Apply upd_1.zip (for Gingerbread 2.3.5, 2.3.6, attachment)
4. Put all your files back.
Do not extract the zip file! Just select the .zip file from your SD card.
Tested: Galaxy Ace - 2.3.5 Stock

Do factory reset.
Don't install anything on the internal memory.
If you have any app that requires root access, delete them (ex: ROM Manager, Superuser etc.)
2 options:
Try the .zip file again
or
Use SuperOneClick ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 )
If you use SuperOneClick make sure you follow the steps.
You NEED to put your phone on USB Debugging mode
You NEED to install make sure the Android drivers for your phone are installed
Make sure you DO NOT mount your SD card.
If you still can't get something to run, try doing it in recovery mode.

Try to flash a 2.3.5 Stock. Most phones have 2.3.5 pre-installed. Install a ROM like CyanogenMod to get 2.3.7 and extra features when you are done rooting.
Get a 2.3.5 ROM at samfirmware.com
You need to register and all the .zip files have a password (pass: samfirmware.com)
EDIT: Backup everything from your SD card and format it. Put it back and try again.

Root S3 Mini (Need some help)

Hi Good Day s3 mini User!
I am from SGW and currently just retired SGW to a s3 mini
I read a lot of the way to root s3 mini non of them seem working for 100%.
Some are in chinese word and some only for I8190.
Is there any senior/experience user that have rooted their s3 mini willing to share and guide me to root my s3 mini to use custom rom?
My based band - I8190NDXLL7
Please advice.
Your best bet is to aquire the Samsung USB driver + Odin and flash ClockworkMod recovery onto your phone, you can then install any standard ROM onto your S3 Mini.
I'd say this guide is pretty self explanatory: http://maclaw.pl/installation-guide-golden/
If you want to root your phone you have to accept the risk, there's no 100% failproof solution.
These procedures are tested and proven to work and is relatively hard to hard brick your phone if you pay attention, but you never know.
Basically there are 2 ways to root your phone, install a pre-rooted firmware and root via custom recovery.
The way I like better is via custom recovery, it's firmware indipendent and it allows to do a nandroid backup before installing any "su" application.

Do not move out or delete any apk on system folder, as far as i know, it will make your phone crash or even softbricked. CMIIW . If you want to disable Samsung Apps, just go to Settings > Application Manager > All Apps > scroll down until you find Samsung Apps. Click on it, and click Uninstall Updates, and then you can disable it. Samsung Apps icon will not appear on your app drawer.

I recommend you to make a backup first.
For this you need to go into CWM recovery.
It's safer that way.
Then you can search on this site what interests you.
I searched it for you and I found this:

Try first to learn what you want to do, and then to apply.

1. Each device have a different way to get root (they have different SoC, CPU Architecture, Partitions Access, Bootloader...) so normaly you need a specific file
2. You need ROOT access to perform a full backup with CWM
3. To search is always important

*Need Direction/Assistance*

Peace All,
*DISCLAIMER* I have done an XDA search as well as a GooGle search before posting this question*
I've recently purchased a Note 5 920G after the whole Note 7 debacle. I am looking to root this phone as I have done in the past with all my phones, but I have run into some roadblocks. This is my first Samsung phone (not counting my brief stint with the Note 7 for 3 days) and since the phone is quite dated, not in terms of specs, but in terms of being released last year, I am having difficulty trying to find the most appropriate and best way to root the device. From my research alot of old root methods for it tripped Knox (don't know what that is...) and other methods are dated using kernels that could possibly brick the device (Seaandroid?).
Could some one please refer me to the most current and safe way to root this device which won't trip Knox or brick the device. My intent is to flash a working Note 7 ROM.
Any assistance/direction on where to find the most up to date rooting method would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your quick response. I have been an HTC man, so I am familiar with all terminology referring to HTC--not to clear on Samsung's terms. So question--if you know--what exactly is Knox? And...from your statement it appears that there is no way around 'tripping' Knox, is that correct? I guess it could be likened to the red flags that appear once you unlock the Bootloader of an HTC device

I really hate to keep bothering you, but after looking through the forums here on XDA and also watching YouTube videos--everybody is saying something different in how to root the Note 5. I am currently on MM 6.0.1 and this is what i got so far for systemless root;
Files downloaded:
*ODIN (3.10.7.1)
*SamSung USB drivers
*no-verify-opt-encrypt.zip
*BETA-SuperSU-v2.68
*TWRP
So..first I hit Build number 7 times to open up Dev Options
-I then hit OEM Unlock and enabled USB debugging
-I then reboot my phone into download mode and connect it to pc while ODIN is
up
-Flash the TWRP tar.md5 onto my phone. Reboot device by manual back into new
recovery
-once in TWRP, I swipe right to allow modifications, then wipe and then format
data
-flash no verify opt encrypt and BETA SuperSU 2.68
-then reboot phone
Are these the correct steps? Did I leave anything out? I just dont want to ruin my device. My ultimate aim is to flash Minotarus ROM (not sure if I need a kernel with that ROM or not).

No brother...you are not bothering me at all
Well...you can do that also...but if u want to install minotarus rom...u can do a little bit of easy steps....
1. Flash twrp recovery via odin ( select tar.md5 file in AP of odin)
2. Wipe system,data,cache nd dalvik ( 3 times)
3. Flash kernel of ur choice( in case of minotarus rom..since this rom doesnt come with any kernel)
4. Flash latest version of rom...
5. Reboot..
Now..its done..
Btw...most of the custom roms are pre-rooted...u dont need to flash super su for that....nd if they are not rooted..then u can flash super su after flashing rom

Ok...Got it, I think. I noticed you left out the no verify script...is it actually needed?? Also, since I have to download a kernel--I just flash that from ODIN or can I flash it from TWRP. I was goin in the path of Extreme UX kernel---unless you have a better option for starters

No..actually verify script is not needed
You have to flash kernel through twrp...
Well.... extreme UX kernel is veryy good or u can use even stock kernel ( which u find in minotarus rom thread itself)
Or if u want AOD feature...u can even flash nemisis kernel
