I know I'm not the only one having this problem, but past solutions don't seem to work anymore.
For some reason my phone does not recognize if I plug a headset into the audio jack, so the audio keeps playing through the speakers. I have to reboot the phone with my headphones plugged in to be able to listen to music using my headphones. I f I want it to switch back to speakers, I need to reboot once again with the headphones unplugged.
In the past the solution was to delete the "alsa" folder, but that folder does not seem to exist anymore. I'm using Omar's rom from August 2014 I think. When installing it I did a factory reset, so I'm not sure what else to try. Does anybody have any suggestions?
I have the same problem and it existed on 4.0.4, 4.1.2 (both stock) and now on 4.4.4. (Hazou's CM11) so I'm not sure it's ROM-related, as like you i did a clean flash.
I also had the same issue with ICS and JB stock. I was convinced it was a software issue because it always started to work when I restarted with the headphones in. I know it sounds crazy but have a dig around in the headphone jack for fluff, I picked a few bits out and I *think* that mostly solved the problem. Also try different headphones, I found some fit tighter than others.
Hello,
I am having the same problem on my RAZR i. I am under Android 4.4.2. I installed this: susomena.headphonesindicator (apps Play store) (in french : Indicateur de Casque)
and everything works perfectly. . I am new user and I can not post outside links.

Hello,
I'm believe i'm currently running Cyanogen Mod 7.1 on the LG 2X.
I've had no problems with the mod, everything was running smoothly then one day, out of the blue, the music was no longer working properly out of the headphones.
The best way I can describe is it as tho you are listening to music under water. The music of the songs play, but when the artist sings, their voice is sort of tinny, and doesn't play properly.
Another strange thing is that when I listen to the radio via an app, it works fine. A little quiet, but it is still clear.
I've had a fiddle with the settings on the music player, but nothing seems to change. I've tried a variety of music players and the problem still occurs.
I've been to 2 technicians and neither of them know what the problem is. They don't believe it is something to do with the hardware, more an internal issue.
I just really want to get this issue sorted, because it's very frustrating when I want to listen to music when travelling etc.
Please help, I'd really appreciate it.
P.S My phone will no longer connect to the computer. When I plug it in via USB, it doesn't pop up on the computer, and only shows a charging icon on the phone. If someone could help fix this i'd also be greatful.
Thanks guys.
For the audio problem, check the DSP manager app.
For the USB problem, check if you have USB debug on. (I think you have to look at Settings->applications->development.)
Have you tried different headphones?
I have a similar problem when using my Sony Ericsson headphones on the LG. It seems the 3.5 mm jack is somehow different. So when I use the SE set, I hear the voice distantly, echoed and so on. And its definitely not from the software.

I also have this problem with my sony ericsson headphones, I have to press real hard on the jack so I can hear properly, so I just use the headphones that came with the LG instead...
Hi,
I have the following problem:
Everytime I pair my Samsung Galaxy SII I9000 with my car (Renault Fluence 2012) and its built in bluetooth System, it says that it's correctly paired (and honestly doesnt even take a minute to pair correctly and to find each other), but it plays no music. It just has no sound (even when the song is playing correctly) but everything else just works perfect. I mean, i can control the music (songs, playlists, etc) from my car correctly, but the sound just wont come out. The only way to make it work is to 'unlock' the sound by calling someone. So when the call starts, then the audio starts working.
It does EXACTLY the same thing with my bluetooth headphones (Motorola S305) so I realized it was my phone. I have tried other phones with my car and they work just fine. I have tried other things with my headphones too (like my Psvita) and they work smoothly.
The weird thing about it is that my phone used to work perfectly fine with the two things, and just a random day it decided not to work anymore.
I used kies and re-installed android from 0, and that solved the problem for a few days and then it all started again. I have tried cleaning all the bluetooth devices that my phone is paired with. Going back to factory settings in my car, removing the battery on the phone, resetting the phone, taking everything out (including the sim card( everything. And nothing seems to work.
Please, help!
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy SII with Android 2.3.6 (it came with 2.3.3 and i upgrade it twice through kies) I have never rooted my phone or done anything to it, except for upgrading Android through Kies.
Thanks so much!!!

If you have SGS2 go to the SGS2 Q&A this is only for SGS1
Thanks
Oh boy... I am very sorry for that.
Hello everyone. New owner of Motorola MB886 (AT&T Atrix HD) - bought brand new/refurb off local craigslist. Sweet deal, had it rooted, flashed Mexican Retail right away and then unlocked bootloader (just to try other ROMs in the future). Problem is the bluetooth. Wife uses the phone, can pair no problem to the Lexus she drives, but no audio coming in or out during calls. Everything else including streaming works normal. Sometimes the audio kicks in, after a minute or so of wait, for no apparent reason. Device is connected well, no drops. Is this a known bug with Atrix HD on the stock 4.1.2 (JB) ROM? I could see bluetooth being broken on Custom experimental builds, but wasn't expecting it to be the problem. Any fix or other ROMs with working bluetooth? I search and didn't see a dedicated thread, other then few mentions of various bluetooth problems. Google search problem is not limited to Atrix, many RAZR devices have same issue. Just wanted to know what my options are. Thanks.
On ICS, never had any problem with my Kenwood car stereo. Reliable pair, calls, music.
Phonebook works, except favorite contacts don't show up (must be a Kenwood problem).
SMS doesn't really work but then again it's been years since they were trying to support SMS on head units.
Also worked fine with a rental Cruze and actually the title of the current song was displayed on the car stereo (my Kenwood doesn't do that).
Is this it? No other confirmation of Bluetooth problems? Can I at least get a clue if this is a result of wrong flash or problem with the ROM, or any AT&T stock users having the same issue? To me it looks like phone connects using basic sound profile, not as headset. Thanks everyone.
Here is an update to my issue with bluetooth. I ended up creating a full backup using CWM recovery and did a factory reset. Then restored just the data partition (from CWM advance restore) and re-mapped the bluetooth. Everything is working like charm now. Lesson, don't forget to do factory reset after flashing, or if any problems arise. Good luck to everyone.
I have a problem with my unrooted Xperia Z with a locked bootloader. My main speaker does not work for any media like music games or videos, but works fine for loudspeaker calls. Also the earpiece speaker doesnt work at all. Another problem i found was that my microphone would not work at all unless it was in a call and i was using loudspeaker. The final problem is that when ever i plug in my earphones, google now pops up and sometimes my phone starts playing music automatically throught the earphones, when i remove the earphones, instea of stopping the music continues but the speakers dont work so it just keeps playing them silently. If anyone knows the soultion to this, please respond as ive searched everywhere and i have not found one solution yet.
UPDATE: i used the application soundabout to reroute the audio and the calls are now fine, the only problem is that when i plug in my earphones the google now problem persists. If i plug in earphones with a mic, i dont get any of these problems and everytime i want to use my internal speaker for media, i have to manually re-route the audio to them. Anybody know a solution to these 2 problems?
I do have the exact same problem, I tried different ROMs and Audio Mods (at the moment I've got a stock ROM) without any change.
Did you somehow fix it?
Exact same problem, i run stock android 5.1.1 build 10.7.A.0.222 locked boot loader. Problem suddenly came up last week during vacation, quite some time after I did OTA upgrade to 5.1.1 - so this is not related to ROM updates.
After installing soundabout (thanks for the hint) the rerouting did not work immediately - i had to set phone to earpiece and media to speaker in the app and reboot for it have an effect.
I think the root cause is, the phone thinks there are headphones connected, when there really aren't. If I use the UKW radio app, it starts and shows headphones as output-icon right away - it should actually complain that there is no reception without phones because the antenna (headphone cable) is missing. Since it doesn't complain I guess that's the culprit.
Any hints how to fix that, without using a rerouting app? (kinda stupid, using bluetooth speakers and so on now needs a manual setting change in soundabout).
I have that phone for more than 2 years now and used headphones maybe twice with it, so a busted headphone-jack is out of the question too.
Guys give it a try.
Thanks Ess Arr, that really works!
A week ago I updated my Xperia Z (6603) to lollipop from android 4.2.2. After this update every seemed to work well except for the speaker that all of a sudden didn't work anymore. At first I feared a hardware fault but then i noticed a notification from Smart Connect saying that the headphones where connected except they weren't. This explained a lot since the phone was indeed acting as is there were headphones connected. After this discovery I tried a lot of solutions I found on the internet.
I tried to plug in and plug out my headphones.
I rebooted the device.
I downloaded the app Sound About, it worked but it would mean that I will forever need to change the setting in the app if I wanted to listen to music on my headphones or over the speakers.
I fiddled in the headphone jack with a toothpick (??)
I reflashed the Lollipop firmware and tried different regions.
After that I tried reflashing every Sony Firmware that I found on the internet. I found out that when I reflashed to the first Android 4.1 Firmware that my speakers started working again. Giving me hope that this was indeed a Software problem and not a Hardware failure (since my warranty has ran out this March). After that I flashed Android 4.2.2 and everything was still all right. But then when I flashed to android 4.3 and it resulted in my original problem. And the same with Android 4.4.4 and ofcourse 5.0.
After I week I'm getting quite desperate since I now need to carry my headphones around for if someone calls me. Another problem is that I can't downgrade to 4.2.2 since last week I also bought an Android Wear device and I need at least 4.3 to be able to use it. So I was hoping that maybe some of you guys know if this is a commonly known problem. So if you are familiar with this problem and are able to help please post your solution below. I'd be extremely greatfull!
edit: To be more precise, it all goes goes wrong with Firmware 10.4.1.B.0.101.
I have updated my firmware to 5.0.2 about 5 days ago. It all goes fine until now, not experiencing any of your problem eventhough with KitKat Firmware 10.5.1.A.0.230 or Jellybean 10.4.1.B.0.101.
FYI because I've unlocked my bootloader and can't received OTA or PC companion update, so I download and flash the FTF using Sony Flash Tools.
Have you tried C6603_10.6.1.A.0.454_HK.ftf version? It works just fine for me.
And let me know whether your bootloader unlocked or locked.
==================================================================
Device = Xperia Z C6602
Firmware = Lolipop 10.6.A.0.454
Bootloader = Unlocked
Rooted = Yes
Thanks for the reply, I did try that firmware but sadly it didn't work for me. And my bootloader is still locked. Does that matter? It also tried updating OTA or Sony's PC Companion but both with similar results.

Since your bootloader still locked, unlocking it will lost your TA partition (can't use bravia engine on album). I've lost it because I don't backup the TA. So, if you plan for unlocking it, be sure backup your TA.
Don't know what to say, because Mine work just fine. But I believe that was Software fault because you've said that just fine on earlier Firmware and THE MOST IMPORTANT it's work with Sound About. Glad you still can use your Speaker although kinda annoying for keep changing the setting to swap between speaker and headset. I'll try to work around to find any way out for your problem.

A headset contains microphone but a headphone doesnt.
just insert the headset but dont pust it hard leave a little space. If you see headphone icon and not headset icon play any music. When music is currently playing and you hear sound on the headset just push the jack hard to lock. The headphone icon must still be a headphone icon. If it change to headset(thats the icon with microphone) icon repeat the process....if you insert jack on phone directly and push hard to lock , you will see a headset icon, in this setting you can never hear music.
this is a mystery bug in xperia z NEVER been fixed. i also have this problem yet i gave up already .. im running custom rom Lineage OS 14.1 nighties still have this issue.
There is no solution am afraid its been 2 years am facing this problem and use sound about to change to speaker or headphone
my friend had this problem before but he fixed it by changing that thing where you plug the headphones .
