I must have installed a dozen or more ROMs since I got this phone, but never has it had any backups available during initial install wizard. It still lists my Note 4 backups though and it's been months. :/ Is there any way to force it to backup to Google?

Yes, and I double check, just to be sure.
I dont believe that custom GAPPS packages have the ability to backup to Googles Servers. I have only been able to get stock builds (Odex or Deodex) to backup. Anything else never does.
The same issue was on prior versions of Android with restoring of WiFi accounts and stuff.
Thank you, that makes sense. I guess I would have to setup a stock ROM the way I like it, use it for a bit and then restore that to a custom ROM. Any idea how often it makes these backups? I only ran a stock ROM on it for about a day or so.

It is really weird because I was running stock unrooted for about 3 days and when I un-encrypted and rooted I still didn't have a backup on Nexus 6-I had to restore a backup of my Nexus 5 from like 3 weeks ago...this is very strange and I don't know what is causing the issue...

Interesting, I wonder if there are others who have the same issue. Thanks for chiming in.
and i was running an aosp build, with root, when i wiped and had a backup of my n6 as an option to restore. it does seem as many arent getting an option to restore a n6 backup.
I have one back up from the first day I got my nexus and haven't had it backup since. Its a little frustrating.
Same here the only backups it shows is from an HTC One Max I had for like a week or so.

I've had the same experience. I've factory resetted a few times since I got the phone and in none of them had I gotten restore. Is there a way to view the date of last backup made?

Not AFAIK, only when running the OOBE wizard does it list previous backups. This is something Google should implement in it's device manager, so you can delete old crap, check backup status and force a backup.
I was wondering if I was the only one that was experiencing this. Hope to see a fix soon.

I have a similar issue.
I have a backup. I did a factory reset 2 days ago, and the initial setup showed a nexus 6 backup but it was 16 days old...
I was using the phone every day, on LTE and on WiFi but the backup stopped 16 days earlier for no reason.
Do not know why, didn't change anything, i was on stock the whole time. The only thing i did was changing the dpi(like 5 weeks ago). That is why i did the factory image flash/reset.
This is an issue with Google, and its been there for a long time.
Before lollipop we just didn't see the backup screen so we didn't know that it was working or not.
Sometimes after a factory reset my WiFi passwords came back sometimes they didn't. And.And this was prior lollipop.
It looks like the issue is still there but now we can actually see if we have a backup or not...

I always had fresh backups when I had a Note 4, the Note 3 and the Note 2. My wife has had a Galaxy phone since the S2 and never had that issue either. Seems to be a Nexus thing, to me.

I had a note 2, and used Samsung account for backup also, and that worked well.
Could be a nexus issue, but i don't know whats the cause.
I remember updating the Google play services manually from apk mirror(with the correct version OFC). Maybe that broke the backup process.
Not really a big deal for me but its certainly a problem for many.
I got my Nexus 6 about 2 weeks ago and I was running into this same issue. I went to the Google Play website and noticed there were no entries for the Nexus 6 regardless of how many times I reset. I thought maybe it was because I initially used that "tap and go" feature and chose my old Droid Maxx, but even after resetting it and setting up as a new device, the phone still didn't show up in Google Play.
For giggles, I did another reset and "set up as a new device", and it again did not show up in Google Play. I then decided to go into "Backup and reset" on the phone, turn off "Back up my data" and turned it back on again (with the phone still logged into the Google account), and at that point it "Registered" and shows up in Google Play, and so far, to this day, shows a present date for "Last Used" (knocking on wood).
I have not yet reset my phone since this has happened, so I cannot tell you if it backed up my settings and apps or not, but at least it is now showing in Google Play as a device.
Hope this helps to either work around the issue or find a solution to the issue.
I flashed back to stock today and it was showing my nexus 6 backups that it took off euphoria os and it had no problems restoring my data. I was running euphoria yesterday, so it seems our devices are backing up but it's not visible to restore unless you are on a stock rom :/
Edit:
I re-installed euphoria and this time the backups were available to restore, so maybe euphoria is the first rom that I've come across that has fixed the issue.

Picked up my NC 1.0.1 today. Rooted without issue. After having a Google Talk conversation, I lost access to Marketplace, and all Google Apps? Can't log back in?
Anyone else having similar issues?
P.S. My wallpaper was changed as well ?!?!?!?!?!
p.p.s. My browsing history and favorites are gone too? Please tell me an update or something was just pushed out. I feel like I just wasted a few hours of my life here.
My rooted 1.0.1 nook has problems as well. Gets authorization error and resets data. After restoring through the clockwork recovery, had it up just for 5 minutes before it automatically reset again. Lost all my apps, market access, youtube, etc. Don't know if this issue has been discussed before. May just have to go back to stock.
It appears that something is amiss. I cannot sign back into any Google Services.
Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server

Same here. Was using everything fine Saturday. Turned on the device and in a few minutes I got an error, something about a problem with the registration and it said it was rebooting. It did and wiped everything of my rooted install except the market. Can't login to google account now.

I might add that I got my device it was at 1.0.0 and I rooted then reflashed to stock to upgrade to 1.0.1 and rerooted. Then I noticed after today's unexpected reboot/data wipe (the status screen during the reboot says it was wiping data) it again gave a message that it had just upgraded to 1.0.1 so I initially thought this was an issue with the device thinking the firmware upgrade was not quite done...
Mine quit working as well. Mine is a 1.0.0 that was auto-nootered. Everything was fine and I used it daily. Now it is a brick, nothing I do seems to make it boot. Every once in a while I can get the backlight to come on but nothing else and it just goes off again in a few seconds.
Rather than troubleshoot, I busted an 8 times reboot to go back to stock then re-rooted. Seemed like less headache, panic and stress.
If your NC dosen't boot at all. Try doing a dd of snowfox's boot.img in dev section. See thread for more info. You'll need to boot into NF from SD.

I have tried rerooting, and restoring through clockwork...it seems to always revert and bootloop. Although the reroot lasted a week and clockwork restore hasn't lasted 24hrs twice now.
Not sure what to do but My wife is ready to kill me! I'll have to go stock till someone finds a way to bust up this authorization or just wait I read some ROMs are being developed.
Have any of you disabled the otacerts.zip?
If you haven't it may be the problem.
I have and same on my wife's and neither of us have had any issue, and we use them daily.
I hadn't realized I should be doing this. I will try it. I am actually thinking that my first store purchase came w/ an update (my issue seemed to start right after a magazine trial purchase was made).
Thanks.

Thank you, I will try that. All the searching I did was for disable OTA NC and such but actually searching for OTACerts brought out many many threads that were archived on this subject... I can't wait to get home to try it!
I did not rename the ota file.... will give it a go.
I've seen a number of reports of rooted 1.1s being reset to factory after receiving a notification to the effect of "There was a problem with authorization. Please wait while we reset your device", after which the NC is wiped.
I heard this from a couple of friends whose NCs I nootered and initially thought it was due to my nootering via a nandroid from a possibly bad uSD, but I've come across two other cases in the wild.
So far it appears to be a wipe of /data since apps installed into /system are apparently still there.
Since the forums aren't filled with threads about this from panicked users, I'm wondering how wide-spread the issue is. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has nootered NCs via nandroid, but would that cause this issue? Maybe dalvik cache not being cleared after a restore? Would there be anything device-specific that would break?
Anyone else experienced this or heard about it?
It's been discussed previously, you may be able to find the threads with search. I've had this happen two or three times, and it was only after tinkering with hidden system settings. I don't think B&N is intentionally remotely resetting any Nook Colors.
I believe it has to do with Titanium Backup. Someone can point you in the right direction. Apparently restoring /system with Ti will get you in trouble because it uses 'old' keys so the stamps don't match, and going to the Nook Market will hose the device.
I have only had this happen to me if I restored any of the BN stock applications. If I only restore user apps/data, no wipes. There are plenty of threads around with this. Some report it is more random, but I'm not convinced. It appears that BN apps look for something related to authentication that includes some kind of date stamp: mismatch = reset.

I'm inclined to agree, although hearing of two cases all of a sudden after months of no issues with previously nootered NCs makes me wonder.

I'd like to chime in and confirm your issue. I did a nandroid backup of my stock 1.1.0 rooted. Then I flashed nookie froyo to my emmc to test it out. Didn't like the interface much. So I tried restoring through my nandroid backup.

Tried it three times and same issue. I had to restore to stock and reroot. And all is fine since. Sucks cause I thought that's what nandroid backups were for.

Yes. That is what happened to me. I think the key is to backup your user apps/data and then unregister/wipe before doing the upgrades. Then reregister and finally restore your user apps/data.

This really makes me wonder if the issue is caused by corrupt nandroids. I can't get any of these new generic 8GB uSDs to make a working NF but other "brand" uSDs work fine. Before I found this out, I made the CWR boot + backups on one of these cards. If the uSD is flaky, then it stands to reason that the restored files might be flaky which in turn could cause a reset.
Alternatively, if there's device-specific info in the nandroids, like SNs or device IDs (the stuff that's saved in the rombackup.zip on p3), that was restored to a different NC, I could see how it could get confused and puke. But to restore to the same NC and have issues? Sounds fishy.
When you restored to stock, was it 1.1.0 stock? How'd you do the restore? 8x failed boots? dd a restore image? One of the CWR factory zips?
Yeah, I just flashed the stock 1.1.0 CWM image from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945838
This just happened to me this morning. I'm not as technical as you guys, and I have no idea what a nandroid is. But I used AutoNooter 3.0 after updating to 1.1, and everything was fine for a week or so. Installed Launcher Pro, Dolphin HD, and a few other apps. This morning, I tried logging into Google Talk (which I hadn't tried before) with a different ID than the one I used to set up Google and YouTube. (I have two Google IDs, and the one I've used for Google Talk was not the same one I'd used to set things up on the Nook. I've since deleted the extra ID and am now using one for everything.) Soon after this, like ten minutes, I was merely reading a book and got the authentication error and reset. Since then, it's just weird.
It looks very much like it did when I got it. But NookColor Tools and Market is there. Softkeys is not. The stock book reader is acting funky, sometimes not displaying the menu that lets you change your page display. Sometimes not letting you make it go away. Getting rid of a bookmark brings me back to the home screen. It's just messed up.
At one point, for no apparent reason, it popped up with the the Market setup, but failed when trying to set up my Google account.
Anyone have any suggestions. I'm guessing I have to bring it back to the beginning, but I'm unclear of the right way to do that, because there's so much information here with various links, and I don't understand all the terms.
Any help would be appreicated.

This is the kind of stuff that keeps me worried. I'm on rooted eclair via autonooter 3.0 and I have everything working perfect!! I'm seriously done configuring and it runs like a champ, but I feel like one day it's just going to blow up somehow or my wife will grab it and try to sign in to something and then...boom!
I'm hoping someone can help me. I installed CM KANG 7.1.5 on my Milestone a couple of months ago and for the most part, everything was working great (at least better than the stock 2.2 on it). But over the last week or so, I've been having a problem with wifi on my phone. Basically, wifi is not working any more or at least it's inconsistent now.
Previous to this week, I had no issues. I had a number of wifi networks set up, and everytime I went to the wifi hotspot, the phone would automatically switch from using data to wifi.
However now, it appears the phone doesn't detect wifi networks any more. I've tried multiple hotspots and still nothing. I've tried using Wifi Analyzer and doesn't see anything either. I've rebooted the phone multiple times, taken the battery out, reseated the SIM card and still nothing. I use 3G Watchdog and Juice Defender and have removed both and still nothing. The strange thing is it's sporadic. ie. wifi will work one day and then the next day in exactly the same spot, the phone get no wifi at all.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? How did you fix it? I've thought about wiping the phone and starting over again but I'm hoping to avoid that, if possible.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Doing a complete nandroid backup, wiping everything, and installing a new ROM takes me a total of about 15 minutes. If the problem I was having isn't fixed by that, I just restore the backup.
I should also point out that 7.1.5 is outdated and the current version is 7.2.0; quite a bit of work was done on WiFi issues in the past few months, and you're probably missing out on fixes for these exact issues.
It can be a pain to set up a new ROM, but worst case scenario is that it doesn't fix anything and you can just restore the backup and be right back to where you were an hour ago.
Please keep us updated here.
Sorry, I'm somewhat new to this (this Milestone is the first phone I've ever rooted, installed CyanogenMod, etc) so I'm probably going to ask some very noob questions here. My apologies if these are very simple or dumb questions.
I've been hesistant to rebuild/upgrade my phone to fix this problem for a couple of reasons including -
My wifi still comes and goes randomly. I worry that maybe it's a flaky hardware issue more than software so I don't want to spend all this time rebuilding it again to find out it's a loose connection or something like that instead.
I assume all my apps, data, settings, etc will be wiped out if I rebuild or update my CyanogenMod unless I use something like Titanium Backup to back them up? Or is there some better/faster way for doing it or maybe CyanogenMod and Nandroid have some better/faster solution that I don't know about? It took me, it seemed like days, to fully restore all that stuff last time so I want to make sure it's worth doing.
Is there an ETA on a "production" aka non-RC version of 7.20? If it's coming soon, I'd rather wait. I'd hate to upgrade to the RC version and then 2 weeks later have to do it all over again.
Thanks for your help.
About ugrading to 7.2:
- do full nandroid backup first
- clean both caches
- apply 7.2 zip
- clean both caches again
- rebot
I use that method when moving from one version of the ROM to another and no serious issues (one or twice I have to clean caches one more time after first restart). In worst case you have nandroid backup so you can quickly move back.
I have done full wipe (including partial sd and complete ext partitions cleanup) just few times e.g. moving from CM6 to CM7.
Generally I apply full wipe only when moving from one ROM to another, in beetwen versions of the same ROM I just clean caches twice.
Anybody else having these problems? 2nd day to have it and it would freeze up and bootloop. At one point it was off for 2-3 hours and I couldn't get to fastboot. Finally I got it to factory reset twice and its doing fine for now. Unfortunately I'm on shift for 24 hours or I'd make Verizon give me a new one.

Had one this morning. Phone froze during a phone call, and then got stuck at the boot screen before the animation. Rebooted it by holding the volume and power button and it's worked since.
No problems here, have played games for several hours straight with no issues and have been playing with it all day.

sounds like a defective unit or something.
i'd do a wipe, dont install any apps, see if it works fine or not. if it does, probably an app issiue. if you are getting problems even after the reset, its the phone.
Same issue here. Kept randomly rebooting, but only occasionally. Did a few factory resets, installing only essential apps each time thinking it was one of my apps that didn't play nice with Turbo (even though they played just fine with my Razr Maxx and Galaxy S5) to no avail. Last night, did a factory reset, didn't install any apps (nor did I update any of the pre-installed ones) and this morning, endless bootloop. I can't get it to stop. I'm really starting to hate this startup sound. LOL!
My phone locks up occasionally. Always restarts itself. I'm not sure what has been causing my phone to lock up but I haven't been able to pinpoint an action that is specifically creating the issue.
Sent from my XT1254
So I couldn't figure out a way to just power it down (all the usual button combinations just kept rebooting it, which then continued the bootloop) so I just figured I'd let it bootloop until the battery ran out. After about 3 hours of bootlooping, it just finally booted. I didn't touch anything. Weird. Maybe it's like a 4 year old temper tantrum, just let them get it out of their system and all will be better in a couple hours. Hahaha!
I have a phone that it's going this as well. I can get into recovery and reset but that didn't work. If I try to wipe cache the phone reboots and freezes which seems abnormal. I never had a phone reboot after wiping cache. I loaded the phone into fastboot and using RSD Lite I flashed the original software into the phone to no help. I did notice though that in the fastboot option that my baseband is blank. Might just be a bad device.? Does anyone know where I can find stock firmware 21.44 (that has the VoLTE option)?

With four turbos there seems to be more of a user error than system. you either disabled a needed apk, installed an apk that doesn't play nice, or you took an ota and havent completed an FDR. Its recommended and has been posted on here multiple times throughout this site/forum that always, always do a FDR with an update.

I'm not running any additional apks at this point and haven't since the second replacement device. Apparently, I just have good luck with this phone, that I now despise, and wish I could get rid of. I followed all the disable guides for what was safe, and I'm not sure what an FDR is, but if you tell me I'll give it a shot. Last replacement came updated as well. At this point this current model doesn't even receive phone calls, because it just doesn't work correctly.

OK, so I have done that with each of the devices. Unfortunately, I just have horrible issues/luck with this phone.
DOK2 all stock firmware here.
Got my phone back in december. My phone has been chugging alone fine until yesterday. not sure what happened but the lock screen takes minutes to come back. I tried doing a factory reset via software and when I did that the phone was still sluggish. Tried a stock recovery reset, and afterwards when i tried signing into my account and connecting to wifi at the initial setup the phone just rebooted back to the start screen again which i thought was real odd. It's currently restoring apps from the app store right now and it intermittently reboots itself while doing stuff. all while it's completely stuttering if i try to use it...
Is my phone starting to have internal memory failure? no SD card in the phone at the moment.
Should I try reflashing the DOK2 firmware via odin and then doing a reset again? Is that even possible with all the restrictions?
used it for about 30 minutes on my way to work and then it rebooted on me with the following error :
ddi: mmc_read failed
Check this thread for a workaround. I use an app to keep my phone from going into deep sleep.

Wouldn't hurt to reflash stock. Google usually restores apps when you check box at first boot for backup and restore. I'm wondering if you installed an app that doesn't agree with your phone... if so, you may continue seeing this issue so long as app is installed.

Did a factory reset and cleared cache, reflashed stock DOK2 from sammobile website using odin, cleared cache. things were going a little bit better at first but now just stuttering all over the place and randomly rebooting still. Also want to add that booting into recovery takes a very long time, longer than i've ever noticed it taking... 7 min+ sometimes it will say "installing system updates" with the android guy chugging along, other times it will just have the android guy chugging....
Is there anything else I can try? Is there something I can test to verify that it's a hardware issue and not a software problem, like a flash memory checker?
This phone is out of warranty, and knox has been tripped so I have very limited options here. Would the Tmobile store let me do an exchange for a fee?

Sprint user here. I thought it might be a carrier issue, but it would seem It's at least Tmo & Sprint
Can't seem to find any complaints on the Verizon/ATT forums but that doesn't mean it isn't happening.
Could it be Touchwhiz?
Here is the Sprint post:

I do get some touch wiz crashes and random app crashes . since I'm on dok2 is there any other rom or recovery I can flash ? Or so some super duper erase method? I'm pretty much ready to cut my losses and sell it for parts on eBay.
i'm not alone it seems

I am having same issue. Was running stock until 3 days ago, when I got fed up with the stock reboot and slow-down. I guess it's time to save up and get a new phone.
Samsung must have activated some self destruct feature on their hardware to get people to upgrade to the galaxy s7 i guess....

Well, fool me once.... Having spent $800 on a phone that broke in just over a year, hell would have to freeze over before I give Samsung any money again.
