Battery dropping from 12% to 0% in a few seconds - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My battery is dropping from 12% to 0% in a few seconds and phone shuts down.
See attached screenshots from battery graph and better battery stats.
During normal use until 13% discharge is normal.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I would like to see some feedback about this, as well. I'm experiencing the same thing.

I have google around but no real solution.
I have tried calibrating battry, let's see what happens

Battery calibration is something you should do!
If it doesn't work try different FTF Files for your device or even use PC Companion to repair your device...
If you could try custom roms it would be better because if the problem still remains it means there is a hardware problem(Probably battery replacement will be needed).

comeon, no one with a real good idea about source of the problem and its solution?

use your phone untill it turns off - boot into recovey with power then volume up
charge your battery while on recovery twrp from 0 to 100 ( leave it just to charge it may take up to 5 hours )
test again if worked fine on discharge from 12 to 0 so u have a kernel problem
you may change the kernel or try another rom

Ok, I have tried all possible methods
- using an app called BatteryCalibration
- using the charging mode suggested above
- deleting manually the battery stats file
Phone still goes from 12% to 0% in seconds and shuts down.
I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS A KERNEL PROBLEM because I have the original .157 sony ROM, just rooted with a few crapware disabled
I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS A BATTERY PROBLEM because I have tried the following: when phone goes from 12% to 0% and shuts off, I plug it in, wait that it charges for say 10 minutes, turn it on, battery is at 4%, unplug it, phone runs for at least 40 minutes (it should shut down).
So it really seems to be a bad reading...

Hmm, i have same problem with battery , when battery is 32-35%, screen off dropping to 22-25% in some minute, but wheni test with screen on 32-35%, don't have problem
It difficult question to answer

It is not the same problem.
My problem is that when the phone (after several hours, also of intensive use) reaches 12% in a few seconds it drops to 11% then suddenly to 0% and it shuts down.
Then, If I charge it for 10 minutes, unplug and turn it on, battery is at 4% and lasts for another hour: this should prove the problem is not the battery but its reading.
And deleting batter stats is useless, besides this being a myth...

I do have original z1 stock .157 rom and I while ago had not this problem.
And yes, it seems that from 100% to 12% it takes ages even with heavy use then suddenly in 3 seconds drops to 0%

i tested every kernel out there for cm11
it is about bad reading from battery
but as no offline charge on cm roms
so no calibiration

So what is the solution?
This morning it dropped from 42% to 21% in a minute and then to 0% in seconds. I put charger on, left it charge 3 minutes, turned it on, batt was at 5%, unplugged and phone remained awake for 20 minutes during use
There must be a way... Full reset maybe?

I will try removing sd card, even though I do not see why that would be a problem

Same problem.
Tried
>PC Companion Repair
>Batt calibration
>flashing Stock rom using flashtool
Still drops to 0% when it reach 50%
Maybe a battery problem?
We experience it all by now maybe because our z1 is more than a year old and battery maybe affected?

Try this: when it reaches 50% and shuts down, while phone is off, plug it in, wait 10 minutes, turn it on and unplug it. Phone should be at 8% or so, and will last normally now.

Battery indicator fail

NOTE: These tests were done using branded Orange PL firmware as well as UK Global
symptoms:
1. phone is charged by 100% then unplugged after about one hour
2. 100% is kept for the next 6-7 hours
3. during the day battery drops as normal till about 50%
4. once phone is rebooted battery instead of 50% shows 32%
I don't think the latest phones needs battery calibration (or am I wrong)
Sony has screw up the battery measurement
Hope they will soon release an update
Does anyone have similar issue?

It is normal for this to happen after a restart, some applications are closed, and re-evaluates the software autonomy.
It's like a car with average consumption when start drive you show a consumption of 99% and after a few km is updated and back to normal.

That's due to bad calibration. To resolve it let it discharge fully (even try to switch it on after automatic shut down). Then connect it to charger (don't turn on device) and let it fully charged.

Many people have this problem, including me. I solved this problem calibrating my battery with Battery Calibration. After calibration go down battery to 0% then charge again to 100%
Even i'm having the same problem. But my phone doesn't reach till 0%, it turnoffs midway and when I restart it shows battery low and then dies again :/

[Q] Battery problem?

Hello,
I have an unlocked HTC One and I think I have some problems with the battery. For example, in the morning when I unplug it from charging and it's 100%, if I use it for like 5 minutes then the battery will drop by 6-7% and I don't think that's normal.
Then I was not at home today and I had like 19% and I decided to power it off. Then I turned it on after like 10 minutes, I had 7% left. I left it on for 10-15 minutes without using and it dropped to 2%. I turned it off again and then I turned it back on after like 5 minutes and it had 6%.
What is going on? Should I do a clean install of the software? I'm using ViperOne 6.2.1.
Thank you!

might be some app that is draining your battery, to confirm with gsam battery monitor. Maybe a rom/kernel issue or a bad battery....
Alright so I've done what the guy advised here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765655
Apparently it fixed some of the problems but I still fail to understand this thing: so last night I had 73% battery left. I turned off the phone and then turned it back on after 5 minutes, I had 68% battery left. Why is this?
Also, sometimes the battery level shown while the phone is on does not coincide with the battery level shown in Recovery TWRP. Why is that and what can be done about it?
Thank you!
There is no way to know precisely what proportion of total charge is in a battery, it can only be estimated. Temperature, current drain, and many other factors affect the estimate. I think you're expecting too much.

Battery problem

My phone got weird battery problem
My phone is 2 yr old & battery replaced last yr
S Off using custom rom insertcoin senseven artmod
I think physically battery is ok
Problem is phone shows battery discharging very quickly
after that what I do
reset battery stats by power off or auto shut down by low battery then holding vol up & power button screen on till phone off again then start phone again it will shows increased battery %
For eg using phone for 10 hrs with 1 hr screen on time it discharge 100 to 0% then I reset battery stats & start phone again it will shows 65% battery
2 nd thing if I'm charging phone it wether phone on or off (let's assume 35% ) it's % not increased but it shows phone using more power after some time it will shows less battery (15%)but in reality phone is charging after resetting battery stats with above method it will shows correct %(55%)
I tried these methods to correct it
Flash stock firmware again unsuccessful
Flash stock ruu again unsuccessful
Also tried vol up + vol down + power button holding for 2 minutes to battery stats reset
What I should do ?
I count manually battery life it's above 24 hr with screen on time of 2.5 hr
See attached pic

Err! Strange could be battery problem but it's weird how clearing stats cures it temporarily.
Have you tried resetting USB host mode with Vol up+down + power for 2 mins?
Maybe charge to 100% in all modes (on, off and in recovery) wipe stats reset USB host mode and reboot and monitor.

Did you try to run your phone without rebooting to see how much it will last? Also, did you try another charger? Judging from your screenshots my guess is your battery is dying, but that would mean you couldn't get that much off charge and SOT to save your life. My battery is still pretty good, and I get just over 3 hours SOT and 36-48 hours off charge

ok let me explain screen shot
Anyhow I charged phone to 100% start it use it for 14-15 hr with 1-1.5 hr sot it goes to 0%
switched off or auto off
not charged
Battery stats reset with vol up + power button for 20 sec (it shows green HTC then goes off again)
Start phone again it shows 60% battery again (not charged )
Use 7-8 hrs with sot 1 hr approx
Goes to 0% again
Repeat process again shows battery 30-35% again
So this is screen shot history

That's a lot like my old Xperia X1. Turned out it was charge regulator issue. You might want to look that up. If I remember correctly, Xperia had that regulator on its motherboard. I changed it and everything was fine after that. I think M7's charge regulator is in the battery, so we're back to faulty battery. But that's just my opinion, you might want to monitor charging current to see if your phone is getting correct charge current

My sister's HTC One m7 battery is fine no issues
I think my phones motherboard can have some issues as in warranty period it's battery changed 2 times so it could be !!

Real battery drain issue

I baught this phone 3 days ago and it the battery is a big problem and I really don't know why
For example I left it at 83% downloading some updates with WiFi and I came back after 40 minutesto find it at 76% and from the battery setting the cell standby (when I open it it says something about cell radio) used 74% of the battery and after those 40 minutes it became 77%

1% every 3 minutes = 5 hours of screen on time.
Again, nothing abnormal here.

Turn off Fast Boot in settings. Power off phone.
Plug phone into HTC charger and charge for two minutes or more
While charging, hold down volume up+volume down+power button and continue holding
Phone will turn on and off repeatedly every 15 seconds or so while continuing to hold all three buttons
Keep this going for 2 minutes, then release buttons when phone is ON
Now, let phone charge fully normally (with phone either on or off--doesn't matter) and battery level reporting, charging and battery life should be normalized.
