using any mod, (cm9, darky, slim...) the situation is the same:
My battery would be on about 95% when I take it off charging overnight. But after some minutes it is around 85% or 80%.
battery usage is ok usually, drops a lot if I use it a lot with full brightness, etc, all ok.
But the issue is that sometimes the phone turns itself off. when I turn it on, it says anything from 10% to 1% battery left.... and then it INCREASES slowly. For example, if it happens and I see 5%, in a few moments it says 6%, then 7%, etc, and might go up until 40% or more.
I do not know what the issue is and have not find any indication of this problem anywhere.
thanks.

No. Devil, Semaphore, and others.
By the way, another issue: if it's in the low % stage, say 5%, and I drain it hard to 1%, it turns off. but even after reboot it still keeps going up.
That means the juice is not empty, because an empty battery would make the boot itself fail.

try cleaning battery terminals and phone terminals, and if you have dropped your phone a lot try putting a thin bit of card at the base of the battery when you insert it just in case it's loose/bad connection

Good idea. But I don't keep any apps open almost at all, my ram is usually all clear with more than 100mb free. I mean, my phone is usually app-less. as I said, battery level is maintained very well except that it starts at 80-85% and sometimes drops to 10% after shutting down for no reason and then climbs slowly, as if to the level it was before shutting down.

This seems to solve the sudden death and rebooting with 10% battery issue.
However, how do I solve the issue of starting the day with 85%-90% battery? it won't charge beyond that. Calibration never helped. (calibration requiers draining and then waiting to 100%... but I can't reach 100%, maybe that's why it doesn't help?)
battery health registers as "good"...
I'm aware that this problem has happened to others, and I have seen solutions for this problem, but every fix I've come across works temporarily...and by that I mean a day or two.
While using my Atrix HD, when the battery reaches between 20-35%, the battery will suddenly drop to 0% and shut down. This usually occurs when I am using an app, such as MixZing or the camera app. Any attempts to turn the phone back on cause it to shut off again as soon as the boot animation finishes. The only way to keep it on is to plug it into a charger, and when it does boot, the battery shows the same percentage it had when the phone conked out on me. I've even tried calibrating the battery using NèMa's Battery Calibration app, and the problem still occurs...mainly because I can't get the battery to drain completely so I can properly calibrate the battery.
Long story short, I need a fix, or at least a suggestion as to how I can keep this problem at bay. Does anyone have information regarding this problem?
did you ever wipe the battery data when you flashing a new rom ?

Agree. In cwm there is an option to wipe battery stats.
I had a similar problem with my HTC First where at 25 % it would go straight to 10 an then to 0 in like 30 seconds...although that was on stock rom...

I don't use the eb40 mod, it's all stock hardware. Haven't tried wiping the battery stats, though; can't believe I overlooked that. I'll give it a shot and see if it does the trick.
EDIT: CWM doesn't seem to have an option for wiping battery stats for this phone; I've tried three versions and none of them give me that option.

I suggest you first write down the current battery volume , for example , now in the system ,you can see 60% battery left .
then you shut down the phone , connect your changer , the phone will change and the battery volume show . if this volume is not equal to the No. you see in the system , it means that your system have a wrong battery data record .

Shut down my phone, battery was at 91% (had charged it overnight). Plugged it in and the charging screen showed 90%. Is that what you were talking about, with the two battery volumes not being the same?
I think it's fixed!
I did a full system reset (including formatting the system, which I apparently had yet to do throughout all this time) to install a new ROM. Today the battery drained all the way down to 2% while I was browsing the web (something that normally would shut off the phone at around 30%) before shutting off. It seems that by skipping that crucial step, the system could not properly read/calibrate the battery when installing a new ROM, which may have caused this problem.
I think it's safe to say it's fixed. For now, at least, but I'm remaining optimistic. Thanks to everyone who pitched in with an idea or just said a few words; great to know people care around here.

Thankfully, I haven't had it drop that low that fast. Of course, this IS the Atrix HD, which carries such a weak battery compared to other phones in its class. Nevertheless, I feel great knowing that my phone doesn't shut off so unexpectedly. If it happens again, I'll do my best to deal with it, but for now...it's just success.
I had this problem after i force rebooted my phone, it got stuck at 1% when charging for almost 15mins. I had to turn the phone off.

Well, a couple weeks later and I'm still not having the problem. The battery does still drain relatively fast (I go from 100% at about 9:00 A.M. to 35% at 3:00 P.M, with minimal usage such as checking Facebook/Twitter and stuff like that), but that's mostly due to the small battery capacity. The battery health is still good according to the scans and hardware checks I've done. I may, however, look into trying the EB40 mod if it means the battery will last much longer.

did you ever try to flash a new rom , you can try , if the problem still there , there is no doubt that the battery is bad .

During normal use until 13% discharge is normal.

I have google around but no real solution.
I have tried calibrating battry, let's see what happens
Battery calibration is something you should do!
If it doesn't work try different FTF Files for your device or even use PC Companion to repair your device...
If you could try custom roms it would be better because if the problem still remains it means there is a hardware problem(Probably battery replacement will be needed).
comeon, no one with a real good idea about source of the problem and its solution?

use your phone untill it turns off - boot into recovey with power then volume up
charge your battery while on recovery twrp from 0 to 100 ( leave it just to charge it may take up to 5 hours )
test again if worked fine on discharge from 12 to 0 so u have a kernel problem
you may change the kernel or try another rom

Ok, I have tried all possible methods
- using an app called BatteryCalibration
- using the charging mode suggested above
- deleting manually the battery stats file
Phone still goes from 12% to 0% in seconds and shuts down.
I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS A KERNEL PROBLEM because I have the original .157 sony ROM, just rooted with a few crapware disabled
I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS A BATTERY PROBLEM because I have tried the following: when phone goes from 12% to 0% and shuts off, I plug it in, wait that it charges for say 10 minutes, turn it on, battery is at 4%, unplug it, phone runs for at least 40 minutes (it should shut down).
So it really seems to be a bad reading...
Hmm, i have same problem with battery , when battery is 32-35%, screen off dropping to 22-25% in some minute, but wheni test with screen on 32-35%, don't have problem
It difficult question to answer

It is not the same problem.
My problem is that when the phone (after several hours, also of intensive use) reaches 12% in a few seconds it drops to 11% then suddenly to 0% and it shuts down.
Then, If I charge it for 10 minutes, unplug and turn it on, battery is at 4% and lasts for another hour: this should prove the problem is not the battery but its reading.
And deleting batter stats is useless, besides this being a myth...

it is about bad reading from battery
but as no offline charge on cm roms
so no calibiration
So what is the solution?
This morning it dropped from 42% to 21% in a minute and then to 0% in seconds. I put charger on, left it charge 3 minutes, turned it on, batt was at 5%, unplugged and phone remained awake for 20 minutes during use
There must be a way... Full reset maybe?

sir are u Filpino ? one of d users of this server have suggested me to bring my unit to the sony center. it seems my phone's battery have already expanded. That same thing have made my phone's backcover to open (on the middle part where the battery is located).
So, this is a strange issue. When my phone dies, it will die when it says I have 5% of battery. Sometimes, it will die at a reported 4% instead. This randomly started one day. I got the 5% remaining notification, and suddenly, my phone shut down. Ever since, I can't get below 4%. I've tried to turn the phone on, but it acts like it is dead.
I'm not sure if it's just reporting the wrong percentage, or if it's actually dying early. I've tried flashing different ROMs, wiping everything, and no change. I've also used Battery Calibration to delete battery stats, with no change. I've had issues with other phones dying a little early, but battery calibration always fixed it, so I'm at a loss. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can try to fix it?
Definitely have this issue too. Dies at 4% strangely enough. Thought it suppose to croak at 0% lol.

Its just not reporting the percentage properly. MIne does it too.
The phone will shut off when the *voltage* drops below a certain threshold, regardless of what the actual "percent left" indicates.

In theory, the percentage display is supposed to calibrate automatically to the voltages... however it should be noted that the battery's *minimum* voltage does need to be programmed in at some point in the process, since the shutoff voltage can NEVER vary. Most likely, the problem of shutting off at 4-5% is a matter of "feel good" battery levels, much like some lingerie stores will label items with the "next size down" or "next cupsize up" to make women feel smaller and bigger in the areas they want. It basically bumps the full scale percentage display by an average of 2.5% UP, which can lead some less observant users to viewing that as a slightly improved battery life. Most people will plug in before it hits 5%, so won't even notice this.
So, basically, that's just how it is? I've never had a phone that was so off. And I still don't understand why it went down to 0% or 1% the first few weeks I had it. It's not an issue, it's just strange.

My n5 shuts down at 1% every time on lollipop. Chalk it up as an n6 "bug" if there's chalking to be done.
I also have this issue and posted a similar thread about it a couple weeks ago. Given that any other device I've owned has been able to consistently reach 1% before shutting off, I think this is either a Lollipop bug or specific to Zthe Nexus 6.
I'm going to test it with my Nexus 9 and ask a buddy about his Moto X 2014 and report back.
Mine died at 9% sigh...

That's the funny thing though, because it never did that. It just aligned shut off with 0%
Happened to me once so far, hit 4% and it shut down unexpectedly. I chalked it up to the kernel at the time, as I had flashed a new one the night before.
Maybe it's intentional?
The Nexus 4 could sometimes be a real pain to reboot if you let it go completely dead. I suppose it's possible Motorola/Google are preventing complete depletion of the battery.

Complete depletion of the battery would literally lead to an explosion upon recharge. That's why all lithium based batteries have an additional 10 - 20% below the battery chip shutdown voltage.
Also a phone that shuts down at 5% is more likely to automatically shut down than one that shuts down at 0% as its a little more unpredictable.
now i have the opposite problem. my phone keeps charging after it hits 100%. i use current widget, and watch it when im charging. and current keeps coming in after its at 100%. it will depend, but sometimes it could still be charging for a half an hour after it hits 100%. but then again, it could stay at 100% for 30-60 minutes after i start using the phone on battery again :silly:

I remember the battery calibration trick on Tue original HTC desire. Turn the phone off and charge to 100 then reboot and charge again. It got the % out of whack and gave a false perception that the battery lasted longer as it stayed at 100 for much longer than it should do.

I also faced this same problem. Now it's shutting at 50% and eventually it will increase. I took the mobile in the service center and checked that the battery is bloated. So I asked them to replace the battery and check on the motherboard.
