I also faced this same problem. Now it's shutting at 50% and eventually it will increase. I took the mobile in the service center and checked that the battery is bloated. So I asked them to replace the battery and check on the motherboard.

No, you are NOT alone.
My phone's battery jumped from 28% to 54% on my last reboot.
ALWAYS Battery % changes after a reboot. Sometimes goes up, sometimes down! :/

It is normal for this to happen after a restart, some applications are closed, and re-evaluates the software autonomy.
It's like a car with average consumption when start drive you show a consumption of 99% and after a few km is updated and back to normal.

Yeah, i understand. Increasing or decrease 1 or 2 percent is normal. But mine increases anywhere from 5 to 15 percent. That's wierd. How can it miscalculate my that much

That's due to bad calibration. To resolve it let it discharge fully (even try to switch it on after automatic shut down). Then connect it to charger (don't turn on device) and let it fully charged.

I have already done it. But no use. And its a new handset
Many people have this problem, including me. I solved this problem calibrating my battery with Battery Calibration. After calibration go down battery to 0% then charge again to 100%
Even i'm having the same problem. But my phone doesn't reach till 0%, it turnoffs midway and when I restart it shows battery low and then dies again :/

[Q] Weird status about battery

Guys. I had a very big problem here. My phone is just off the charger for about 10 min but the battery drops to 97% already. And I checked with the stamina mode which the battery only last for 18 hour and standby time only less then 2 days. Any idea about this? and any way to fix?
Thx.

How long have you owned the unit? I found mine needed a few charge cycles to become more stable.
One strange thing I have noticed is that whilst charging the notification light turns green at 90% for some reason, has anyone else noticed this?
Hi homer285. thanks for your reply. I had it for about a week only. So is it better I make some cycle charge for it to make it back to normal?
Thx.

that is normal for all Sony devices.
90% to 100% is green. below 90 is orange. and below 10 or something is red.

for the first part, the battery dropping so quickly, can you provide another screenshot for the battery and the apps working, to see which app consumed more battery. I usually charge my phone before going to sleep and after waking up ~9 hours later the battery drops from 100-96%.

For the second part, this is normal. the estimated battery gives indication depending on your usage (so yours will be different than mine). while standby is where your phone is not being used and thats why it is longer although it is quite little, my phone at 62% and says 3 days and 2 hours in standby mode.
if I didn't answer your question, please explain further but other screenshots would help as well, thx

I noticed this when charging mye phone the last time too. Maybe it is not quite calibrated yet? I did charge to 100% then totally drained it though, after charging it the first time out of the box.
Hi ahomad
Thx for ur reply. Attached is the photo of my battery usage for this morning.
I do understand what they mean but for the first few day usage my stamina standby time is up to 3-4days, just don't know what happen it dropped for used about a week.
And is it just the normal status or is it better to make some calibration for battery. If so, what is the best way to do that.
Thx.

you might have been playing games heavily (assuming the second app using most power is a game) thus the estimation was lowered as the phone assumed you will play more games in the coming days.
But from the picture you attached, you do have quite good battery as you were playing heavy game for 40 mins while having LTE on yet the battery dropped 9% which is really good
just ignore what the phone is telling as long as you don't see real world weakness of the battery performance. these estimates are never real just to give an indication

Just check the battery shell to see if it is a little swollen. If so, you need to replace it.
The same happened to me after like 14/15 months of usage. The symptom was screen started flickering and phone restarted. That's the battery reaching it's end for sure.

I have google around but no real solution.
I have tried calibrating battry, let's see what happens
Battery calibration is something you should do!
If it doesn't work try different FTF Files for your device or even use PC Companion to repair your device...
If you could try custom roms it would be better because if the problem still remains it means there is a hardware problem(Probably battery replacement will be needed).
comeon, no one with a real good idea about source of the problem and its solution?

use your phone untill it turns off - boot into recovey with power then volume up
charge your battery while on recovery twrp from 0 to 100 ( leave it just to charge it may take up to 5 hours )
test again if worked fine on discharge from 12 to 0 so u have a kernel problem
you may change the kernel or try another rom

Ok, I have tried all possible methods
- using an app called BatteryCalibration
- using the charging mode suggested above
- deleting manually the battery stats file
Phone still goes from 12% to 0% in seconds and shuts down.
I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS A KERNEL PROBLEM because I have the original .157 sony ROM, just rooted with a few crapware disabled
I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS A BATTERY PROBLEM because I have tried the following: when phone goes from 12% to 0% and shuts off, I plug it in, wait that it charges for say 10 minutes, turn it on, battery is at 4%, unplug it, phone runs for at least 40 minutes (it should shut down).
So it really seems to be a bad reading...
Hmm, i have same problem with battery , when battery is 32-35%, screen off dropping to 22-25% in some minute, but wheni test with screen on 32-35%, don't have problem
It difficult question to answer

It is not the same problem.
My problem is that when the phone (after several hours, also of intensive use) reaches 12% in a few seconds it drops to 11% then suddenly to 0% and it shuts down.
Then, If I charge it for 10 minutes, unplug and turn it on, battery is at 4% and lasts for another hour: this should prove the problem is not the battery but its reading.
And deleting batter stats is useless, besides this being a myth...

And yes, it seems that from 100% to 12% it takes ages even with heavy use then suddenly in 3 seconds drops to 0%

i tested every kernel out there for cm11
it is about bad reading from battery
but as no offline charge on cm roms
so no calibiration
So what is the solution?
This morning it dropped from 42% to 21% in a minute and then to 0% in seconds. I put charger on, left it charge 3 minutes, turned it on, batt was at 5%, unplugged and phone remained awake for 20 minutes during use
There must be a way... Full reset maybe?

sir are u Filpino ? one of d users of this server have suggested me to bring my unit to the sony center. it seems my phone's battery have already expanded. That same thing have made my phone's backcover to open (on the middle part where the battery is located).

Phone dies at 5%....

So, this is a strange issue. When my phone dies, it will die when it says I have 5% of battery. Sometimes, it will die at a reported 4% instead. This randomly started one day. I got the 5% remaining notification, and suddenly, my phone shut down. Ever since, I can't get below 4%. I've tried to turn the phone on, but it acts like it is dead.
I'm not sure if it's just reporting the wrong percentage, or if it's actually dying early. I've tried flashing different ROMs, wiping everything, and no change. I've also used Battery Calibration to delete battery stats, with no change. I've had issues with other phones dying a little early, but battery calibration always fixed it, so I'm at a loss. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can try to fix it?
Definitely have this issue too. Dies at 4% strangely enough. Thought it suppose to croak at 0% lol.

Its just not reporting the percentage properly. MIne does it too.
The phone will shut off when the *voltage* drops below a certain threshold, regardless of what the actual "percent left" indicates.

In theory, the percentage display is supposed to calibrate automatically to the voltages... however it should be noted that the battery's *minimum* voltage does need to be programmed in at some point in the process, since the shutoff voltage can NEVER vary. Most likely, the problem of shutting off at 4-5% is a matter of "feel good" battery levels, much like some lingerie stores will label items with the "next size down" or "next cupsize up" to make women feel smaller and bigger in the areas they want. It basically bumps the full scale percentage display by an average of 2.5% UP, which can lead some less observant users to viewing that as a slightly improved battery life. Most people will plug in before it hits 5%, so won't even notice this.
So, basically, that's just how it is? I've never had a phone that was so off. And I still don't understand why it went down to 0% or 1% the first few weeks I had it. It's not an issue, it's just strange.
mine shuts down at 3% every time

My n5 shuts down at 1% every time on lollipop. Chalk it up as an n6 "bug" if there's chalking to be done.
I also have this issue and posted a similar thread about it a couple weeks ago. Given that any other device I've owned has been able to consistently reach 1% before shutting off, I think this is either a Lollipop bug or specific to Zthe Nexus 6.
I'm going to test it with my Nexus 9 and ask a buddy about his Moto X 2014 and report back.
Mine died at 9% sigh...

That's the funny thing though, because it never did that. It just aligned shut off with 0%
Happened to me once so far, hit 4% and it shut down unexpectedly. I chalked it up to the kernel at the time, as I had flashed a new one the night before.
Maybe it's intentional?
The Nexus 4 could sometimes be a real pain to reboot if you let it go completely dead. I suppose it's possible Motorola/Google are preventing complete depletion of the battery.

Complete depletion of the battery would literally lead to an explosion upon recharge. That's why all lithium based batteries have an additional 10 - 20% below the battery chip shutdown voltage.
Also a phone that shuts down at 5% is more likely to automatically shut down than one that shuts down at 0% as its a little more unpredictable.
now i have the opposite problem. my phone keeps charging after it hits 100%. i use current widget, and watch it when im charging. and current keeps coming in after its at 100%. it will depend, but sometimes it could still be charging for a half an hour after it hits 100%. but then again, it could stay at 100% for 30-60 minutes after i start using the phone on battery again :silly:

I remember the battery calibration trick on Tue original HTC desire. Turn the phone off and charge to 100 then reboot and charge again. It got the % out of whack and gave a false perception that the battery lasted longer as it stayed at 100 for much longer than it should do.
