using any mod, (cm9, darky, slim...) the situation is the same:
My battery would be on about 95% when I take it off charging overnight. But after some minutes it is around 85% or 80%.
battery usage is ok usually, drops a lot if I use it a lot with full brightness, etc, all ok.
But the issue is that sometimes the phone turns itself off. when I turn it on, it says anything from 10% to 1% battery left.... and then it INCREASES slowly. For example, if it happens and I see 5%, in a few moments it says 6%, then 7%, etc, and might go up until 40% or more.
I do not know what the issue is and have not find any indication of this problem anywhere.
thanks.

No. Devil, Semaphore, and others.
By the way, another issue: if it's in the low % stage, say 5%, and I drain it hard to 1%, it turns off. but even after reboot it still keeps going up.
That means the juice is not empty, because an empty battery would make the boot itself fail.

try cleaning battery terminals and phone terminals, and if you have dropped your phone a lot try putting a thin bit of card at the base of the battery when you insert it just in case it's loose/bad connection

Don't keep more background processes.....use slim ics with seamaphore kernel...it has best battery backup....
use apps like advance task manager and try to keep ram clear all the time.....

Good idea. But I don't keep any apps open almost at all, my ram is usually all clear with more than 100mb free. I mean, my phone is usually app-less. as I said, battery level is maintained very well except that it starts at 80-85% and sometimes drops to 10% after shutting down for no reason and then climbs slowly, as if to the level it was before shutting down.

This seems to solve the sudden death and rebooting with 10% battery issue.
However, how do I solve the issue of starting the day with 85%-90% battery? it won't charge beyond that. Calibration never helped. (calibration requiers draining and then waiting to 100%... but I can't reach 100%, maybe that's why it doesn't help?)

Hi everyone, well when i charge my battery all the way to 100% its fine, i use the device as an mp3 player as well which in my case brings down the battery 10%, but most of the time my battery meter is not accurate, for example it will say 54 percent but when i restart the phone it will shoot up to 75 or something, it always does that, is there any hardware problems or anything?
Battery Trouble
Hello MimoG3
This may or may not be related, but I remember after restoring from a backup a few months ago and removing the battery prior to this the device battery meter was very inaccurate. After the restore, the battery extremely low warning came up because it thought I had 0% battery. Long story short, after a while I noticed the battery was not seated properly. So I took out the battery, cleaned the contacts, and put it back in, and it worked fine again. Try cleaning all the battery contacts. Google "Clean battery contacts" or something similar if you do not know how to safely clean battery contacts.
Also, although I have not had this problem that your are describing, try posting your rom and rom version, radio, device information, battery s/n if possible, and other device info should it turn out there is a bad batch of batteries or devices.

i have noticed when i restart the phone once in a while and when the battery is fully charged it will think its empty and shut off the phone, to fix that i take out the battery and it starts up again. also sometimes it freezes at startup until i take out the battery but that happens when i restart as well.
Leave your phone on playing music until it turns itself off because of low battery. Remove battery 10 seconds, put it back in and turn on again. Repeat until the battery is really empty and the phone turns off less than 5 mins after you turned it on. Plug charger, turn on, leave until fully charged. This should improve accuracy. Avoid removing the battery if not needed.
ive done something similar to that, i turned on the wifi, bluetooth and gps on so that it would drain the battery fast, then when it turned off i turned it on again with all those things off except the GSM Radio, then eventually it shut off once it stopped turning on i charged it all the way. it still didnt help
battery measuring is not really that much of an exact science
only way to tell the % is
when a batt being pulled current from the volts drop
the less juice left in the batt the more it drops
so the device measure the volts
and makes an educated guess how much juice is left
just after a reset the batt could very well perform a bit better
for a few mins voltWise

Did you remove the battery? The phone doesn't usually reset the meter if you leave it in.
@rudegar: No, most recent devices including HTC phones don't only use the battery voltage but count how much energy they use / charge to the battery. That usually allows more precise measurement, but can also sceww up if uncalibrated, and is really annoying as it doesn't want to use higher capacity batteries correctly.
I'm trying to nail down if this is normal behavior or not my phone always shutdowns itself when the battery level goes below 7%, no matter what.
then I turn it on it boots and shows 0% of battery left then it shutdown again, next time I try it's totally dead.
Tried with a battery calibration improved the overall battery life but that mark is still there.
Is that normal? I mean when I used to have a G1 it lasted until 1% or so.. 7% can be very well an extra hour of usage that I'm loosing.

I've noticed the same thing. It'll be interesting to see if anyone has a solution.
7% of battery life is just a number. It could very well be inaccurate, and simply reporting 7% when you actually have 0%. When you reboot and it shows 0% just backs this idea up. You are not "losing" an hour of battery life, you simply never had it.
To check this, use spare parts to look at the voltage of your battery when it approaches 7%.
Also, this belongs in the QA section.
I'll give it a try, interesting is the fact that both Cyanogen RC3 and Battery Monitor are reporting the same thing.
Will keep an eye on the voltage, what should it say ? something near 0?
seriously?
AFAIK li-on battery never be below 5% or 7% why?
because if you get below of this the battery will be dead and will not work anymore. so thats normal.

I've also read its normal but if its normal why isn't it calibrated to show 0% when its actually at 7%? My phone goes off at ~10%
btw there are so many battery threads lately.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=702167
Yeh, mine also goes off at around 10%.
it seems normal then , time to get myself a spare battery ... travel can be painful if no power outlet / usb port is near me
Yes its kinda normal. My phone has always shut down at 8% from day 1. I think its because of what we're talking about in the battery cal thread personally.
Havent you noticed that when you charge the phone powered off it takes like 40 % more time for the batetry to charge but it also makes the battery last longer? is there any truth in this or im just crazy?

This is a very well know issue related to battery calibration. Take a look at the many calibration threads to learn about bump charging.
Basically, it takes longer with the phone off (or when you pull and put back the battery while charging) because in some cases android was stopping the charge before a full charge.
Try this
Charge your phone to 100% (inside android)
Turn you phone off
Reboot
Pull the battery before it boots
Wait for the ?
Put the battery back in and notice the %
If it says 60%, then you had 40% of your battery not being charge.
If you leave it in that spot and wait for it to go to 100%, your battery will be better calibrated.

I pay no attention to the battery meter anymore. I've found that it just reads low. It's not that it doesn't get a fully charge, the phone can't read the level correctly. I tried draining the battery once by playing an episode of Top Gear with the screen on full brightness. The phone said the battery was at 5% but the video kept playing for another 1.5 hours.

millivolt. there are other ways to read out this value... I'm using osmonitor, since it's installed anyways
What is the best way to swap batteries with different capacity?
I noticed then when you put a new one it retains the old %. Wiping the battery stats helped a little but the reading is still incorrect because the phone stayed on web surfing in 3g for 30m with 1% which is impossible.
Also what app can I use to test the battery duration? like a stress tool that does the same thing in cycles so I can see which battery lasts more.
Just use the phone normally, after a few charging cycles the readings will match the actual %. Wiping battery stats doesn't really help, as it is not really related to reading the battery's state as some people used to believe.
Use the Battery Drain app by Waza_Be found in Google Play. It records the time every 1% decrease, letting you to know how long 1% of your battery lasts
Like silentmelodies said,
this will settle with your battery being fully charged a few more times.
I am using battery calibration app everytime I install a new rom.
It doesn't work The indicator is stuck at the previous level
Leave the battery out for at least 15 seconds before inserting the new battery. Then you'll get the correct reading. Don't be quick ;-)

its bad practice, but I pull the battery out with the phone on, but screen off. the new battery will show the correct percentage...

Hello!
I am presently on GamerzROM based on GB 2.3.6 XXJW4 Semaphore 2.7.4bm. Problem is that whenever I restart my phone for any reason, the battery level falls drastically. For example, if the battery level is 70%, after restart it goes to 10% or so. Later it starts going up slowly but only goes up to approx 50% of what it used to be before.
I even tried calibrating my battery a couple of times but the problem is still there. Why is this happening and how can I get rid of this?
Thank you.

Tried it but the problem is still intact... Battery was 66% and after following what you said, it came down to 9% after restart
sometimes it happens same on my sgs
it happens to me sometimes. mostly after flashing the new rom and this issue always solve by use the phone in couple of battery cycle.

calibrate your battery search xda or use battery calibration app on android market
Our phones battery gauge chip sometimes goes crazy when you reboot or flash something. Try to use the phone until 0% of battery and it shuts down then charge to full and calibrate. It should work.

wipe battery stats and then calibrate battery. there's a whole official thread for it somewhere in the forums.

This is the only actual solution. I can't find links right now, but it has been proven and confirmed by android devs several times that wiping battery stats has no effect whatsoever on actual battery performance or visual representation.
