battery drops to 10, then goes UP while discharging

using any mod, (cm9, darky, slim...) the situation is the same:
My battery would be on about 95% when I take it off charging overnight. But after some minutes it is around 85% or 80%.
battery usage is ok usually, drops a lot if I use it a lot with full brightness, etc, all ok.
But the issue is that sometimes the phone turns itself off. when I turn it on, it says anything from 10% to 1% battery left.... and then it INCREASES slowly. For example, if it happens and I see 5%, in a few moments it says 6%, then 7%, etc, and might go up until 40% or more.
I do not know what the issue is and have not find any indication of this problem anywhere.

No. Devil, Semaphore, and others.
By the way, another issue: if it's in the low % stage, say 5%, and I drain it hard to 1%, it turns off. but even after reboot it still keeps going up.
That means the juice is not empty, because an empty battery would make the boot itself fail.

try cleaning battery terminals and phone terminals, and if you have dropped your phone a lot try putting a thin bit of card at the base of the battery when you insert it just in case it's loose/bad connection

Don't keep more background processes.....use slim ics with seamaphore kernel...it has best battery backup....
use apps like advance task manager and try to keep ram clear all the time.....

Good idea. But I don't keep any apps open almost at all, my ram is usually all clear with more than 100mb free. I mean, my phone is usually app-less. as I said, battery level is maintained very well except that it starts at 80-85% and sometimes drops to 10% after shutting down for no reason and then climbs slowly, as if to the level it was before shutting down.

This seems to solve the sudden death and rebooting with 10% battery issue.
However, how do I solve the issue of starting the day with 85%-90% battery? it won't charge beyond that. Calibration never helped. (calibration requiers draining and then waiting to 100%... but I can't reach 100%, maybe that's why it doesn't help?)
battery health registers as "good"...

Rebooted and battery went from 45% to 10% WTF

Anyone ever heard of this? What the hell is that about?

Has happened to me many times on both phones. I'm guessing battery calibration goes bad and when reboot it tries to adjust. Also note that when this happens, battery will slowly recover as if the phone is charging. Say it dropped to 10%, leave the phone aside after the reboot, battery will increase to somewhere around 20%. I've had this problem on the stock ROMs of both Note and the SGS II. Hope this helps.

Try calibrate your battery by letting it blackout then take out your battery for two minutes then put it back again, dont reboot yet, let it charge to full, then go directly to CWMR and wipe battery stat and reboot.

I don't know to consider this a bug, or what.
But.. battery calibration won't help. I've tried.
On my device, it happened :
*) when my device got very hot (when use certain kernel), I reboot, then voila.... the battery drop around 20-30%.
At first I said WTF... then I faster charge (because at that time, after drop, my battery left only 1%)
The next time happened, I was on the road, and can't charge my handphone. So I just leave it there, laid in my bag.
Surprisingly, after some times, the battery start to increase again, though it's not coming back to the same percentage as before it drop.
So is it a bug ? Perhaps... but only happened when your device got very hot.
And when your device is very hot (under certain kernel), and you never reboot / switch off first, you will see that the battery flow like water.
But when you switch off, let it cool, then boot up again, the battery will stagnant at the same percentage when you switch off. Go up and go down at the same percentage for minutes to 1 hour+.
So you want to consider this is a bug ? perhaps, but.... not everytime happen. So long as you are on the correct kernel that suit your device.

Huge drain may affect the stats.
The percentage is calculated based on the voltage of the battery. On heavy drain the voltage may drop unpredictably (for the ROM). Also, the temperature will affect the voltage (thus percentage).
With my phone if happened only once, the night after update to LRQ so I assume this is connected to battery stats.
But also, certain ROMs can affect this behavior.

[Q] Fluctuating battery charge

My battery charge fluctuates, sometimes it goes up from 5% to 35%, sometimes it seems depleted (2%) and if I check in 15 minutes it's 10% and so on.
I'm running CM 7.2 and previously Darky ROM 10.2. Since this started happening I've used a couple of the top-rated battery calibration tools, but to no avail.
Any ideas? Is it a hardware problem? Or a driver problem with the custom ROMs? Or something else?

Try the following If you haven't already.
Charge phone until it says it's full.
Discharge until it turns off. Try to turn it on to make sure it's absolutely flat.
Do this again.
Then charge it periodically so that you keep the percentage between the 20 and 90 approximately, and see if it improves.
Repeat first steps.
Wiping battery stats and similar "calibration" has no effect on neither the percentage shown or battery performance.

I don't really know the reason why this is happening, Li ion batteries can be somewhat of a black arts.
A new one should fix it anyway, and they're very cheap where I live at least

I passed through Same problem when i had updated my mobile to jelly bean for first time. But after 7-8 days fluctuates is decreased from +/-20% to +/- 2%. And fluctuates are gone after 20 days.
So dont worry, just wait for 20 days.

I have a Galaxy Nexus, not rooted, and it does this all day. 80%, 14%, 78%. All in a matter of minutes.
I'm discharging fully then doing a full charge to see if it changes anything.
My Sensation never did this and the apps I have are the same. In fact I've installed less on the Nexus...

[Q] Battery problem, drops to 0% randomly

I'm aware that this problem has happened to others, and I have seen solutions for this problem, but every fix I've come across works temporarily...and by that I mean a day or two.
While using my Atrix HD, when the battery reaches between 20-35%, the battery will suddenly drop to 0% and shut down. This usually occurs when I am using an app, such as MixZing or the camera app. Any attempts to turn the phone back on cause it to shut off again as soon as the boot animation finishes. The only way to keep it on is to plug it into a charger, and when it does boot, the battery shows the same percentage it had when the phone conked out on me. I've even tried calibrating the battery using NèMa's Battery Calibration app, and the problem still occurs...mainly because I can't get the battery to drain completely so I can properly calibrate the battery.
Long story short, I need a fix, or at least a suggestion as to how I can keep this problem at bay. Does anyone have information regarding this problem?

did you ever wipe the battery data when you flashing a new rom ?
I think you need to re-reconigz the battery .

Agree. In cwm there is an option to wipe battery stats.
I had a similar problem with my HTC First where at 25 % it would go straight to 10 an then to 0 in like 30 seconds...although that was on stock rom...

Do you have the m40 battery mod from maxx?

I don't use the eb40 mod, it's all stock hardware. Haven't tried wiping the battery stats, though; can't believe I overlooked that. I'll give it a shot and see if it does the trick.
EDIT: CWM doesn't seem to have an option for wiping battery stats for this phone; I've tried three versions and none of them give me that option.

I suggest you first write down the current battery volume , for example , now in the system ,you can see 60% battery left .
then you shut down the phone , connect your changer , the phone will change and the battery volume show . if this volume is not equal to the No. you see in the system , it means that your system have a wrong battery data record .

Shut down my phone, battery was at 91% (had charged it overnight). Plugged it in and the charging screen showed 90%. Is that what you were talking about, with the two battery volumes not being the same?

I think it's fixed!
I did a full system reset (including formatting the system, which I apparently had yet to do throughout all this time) to install a new ROM. Today the battery drained all the way down to 2% while I was browsing the web (something that normally would shut off the phone at around 30%) before shutting off. It seems that by skipping that crucial step, the system could not properly read/calibrate the battery when installing a new ROM, which may have caused this problem.
I think it's safe to say it's fixed. For now, at least, but I'm remaining optimistic. Thanks to everyone who pitched in with an idea or just said a few words; great to know people care around here.

I'm glad that you fixed it. I did the same but I still have that problem. When It's 20% it drops to 15% and then to 5% in 30 seconds.

Thankfully, I haven't had it drop that low that fast. Of course, this IS the Atrix HD, which carries such a weak battery compared to other phones in its class. Nevertheless, I feel great knowing that my phone doesn't shut off so unexpectedly. If it happens again, I'll do my best to deal with it, but for now...it's just success.

I had this problem after i force rebooted my phone, it got stuck at 1% when charging for almost 15mins. I had to turn the phone off.

for my understanding ,before you shut down the phont , you saw the batter volumes in system is 91% , and then you shut down the phont ,plug it in , and see the battery volume is 90% .I think in this situlation , the battery record in your system is correct ,cause 90% and 91% almost the same . I think your battery is dying , you should replace your battery

Well, a couple weeks later and I'm still not having the problem. The battery does still drain relatively fast (I go from 100% at about 9:00 A.M. to 35% at 3:00 P.M, with minimal usage such as checking Facebook/Twitter and stuff like that), but that's mostly due to the small battery capacity. The battery health is still good according to the scans and hardware checks I've done. I may, however, look into trying the EB40 mod if it means the battery will last much longer.

did you ever try to flash a new rom , you can try , if the problem still there , there is no doubt that the battery is bad .

Strange battery behavior, so i'm searching for a kernel

Here's my problem:
My battery level suddently drop from 50% or 30% to 0% in few seconds.
When i'm in system on (for example) 90% battery, if i go in recovery my battery level is 5%.
I tried a battery calibration program with no results.
My last chanche is to try another kernel but, i can't find one!
I'm searching for a stock kernel with root and recovery for 5.0.1.
Now i'm on rockz1 kernel.
Someone know where to find a stock kernel that i can try without losing root?
Or maybe there is already a solution to this strange battery problem?

There is nothing strange about this problem. You have classic symptoms of a dying battery. No kernel, rom, battery calibration or any other solution will help. Replace the battery and your problem will go away...
The reason your battery goes down suddenly is that it can't hold power due to deterioration of cells. In other words, only 5-10% can hold. Think of it as an air baloon: your baloon can hold 10% of air it used to hold and it will still rightfully show 100%, but once you start using it, the air goes fast and once it is close to empty, the system shuts down the phone. I bet it does not also take long to charge for the same reason.
If you don't believe me, do a test: start a youtube video when your battery is at 50%: I bet your phone wouldn't last more than 15 minutes.
