Phone won't enter "deep sleep" with Bluetooth on? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is this normal? I'm completely stock other than being rooted and CPU spy shows that my phone simply won't enter deep sleep unless my Bluetooth is completely off.

The phone is probably awake to read the status of the Bluetooth headset to respond to voice commands or the press of the call button.

Originally yes but I reset my entire Bluetooth cache yesterday to "release" any pairings and I'm still noticing it.

Damn. I guess I should try a factory reset or something. Just to confirm, are you using CPU spy or a different app to track sleep?

It could be same issue I have here.
A good advice is to root, install better battery stats and report back.

I would root first to try a deeper root cause. I've already factory reset with no luck.

I guess you do not see this type of difference in the Active bar if you compare a day/period connected to your watch vs not connected.

Right. Not sure it makes much sense to compare to a completely different device anyway.

Yes you are right, but if it is a system type of stuff could be cross-devices. I've seen something identical on a Note 3 and LG G2. It could also be that N6, Z3, Note 3 and G2 use all a similar BT hardware.
Or if there is an app creating the wakelock (what I hope), it would definitely be a cross device.
This is the reason why I'm here in a N6 forum to seek for inspiration of something that is driving me crazy!!

Proximity Notification Alert for Gear?

After watching the latest ad on the samsung gear, the last ending segment is what sold me to finally pull the trigger.
Here's the problem, how do I set this up? I get forgetful sometimes and leave my phone on the desk. So how do I set it up so that if I leave without my phone, my watch will lock the phone and then notify me with vibrate that I forgot it? Any help is appreciated.
-thx

when the watch disconnects due to the distance between you and your phone it vibrates telling you you walked away from your phone and that the watch has lost connection. Which also means hay you left your phone on the table. lol
No. I do not speak about it (btw this only shows me lost connection-no alert). I was speaking about pushing gear power button and mobile starts ringing. Cool feature

Mine just tells me the bluetooth disconnected (along with a buzz) which is enough. No real notification.

That is probably "Find my phone" which is a built in app.
1. The Gear vibrates when it gets out of BT range. As far as I know there is no setting for this, it default.
2. Find my device and find gear are 2 default apps in gear manager and in gear.

Find my device works but it is manual.
Be kind of nice to walk away and get more than a vibration when you exceed Bluetooth range.
3. If u lock your phone with a pattern gear will unlock the pattern. But not the whole lockscreen, u still have to swype over the screen. It has to be in a range of about 10cm
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app
It's in the gear manager on your phone, Settings, 1st option: Autolock.
Hi guys, yes indeed the vibration is a standard setting for proximity alert. However me too u would like to change that to a spoken notification both for out of prxomity alert "connectiopn lost" and for reconnecting.
Any ideas?

Keeping screen on when charging?

I've tried relentlessly to find a way to keep the screen on while charging, to practically no avail.
I ended up installing an app called "Stay Awake", which worked in theory, however, after 5 seconds the screen adjusts to the dimmest setting which is nearly impossible to read unless you are in a dark room.
Without that app running nothing else works to keep the screen on during charging.
Anyone solved this issue yet?
Thanks
Why do you want to keep it on? There are some clock apps that i think do this. But not 100% on that.

What I described above is what happens with auto brightness off. After 5 or 6 seconds the screen dims, but stays on, which is fine at night, but during the day its unreadable.

The setting is under the developer options screen. (If you don't have developer options enabled go to settings->about device and tap on build number about 10 times. (half way thru tapping you'll see a pop up telling you how many taps are left))

Very stable, could be new FW forces higher voltage to WiFi unit, even the range is slightly extended. I noticed it because I get better signal in bathroom
@alray No keyboards support my language, so having swype or something like that is useless. But I will try with others, just for the sake of vibro

You are not forced to use the swipe functionally if you don't want, even if using swiftkey. You can change the vibration in swiftkey to what you like.

There is one thing you can try if your device is rooted. Not sure if it will work but if you go to play store and download keyboard backlight controller by deskangel, and then open it and tap lock on backlight it might work.

It works, but the buttons remain lit even after you turn the screen off.
Make sure "only when screen on" is enabled. I cant test it because I don't want root anymore

Android OS killing battery when wifi is on

Android OS is killing my battery whenever i use wifi in my office, if i use wifi in home drain is ok. Not sure why device was awake for almost 7 hrs ?.
Any suggestions??
Theres some sort of glitch that cant be explained. Mine does the same thing with wifi at work. Apparently the phone can't handle high trafic networks or when you move around and the phone has to jump from router to router. It ends up creating a huge amount of wakelocks. Then you switch to LTE and you get drain from cellular network because its a battery hog. There doesn't seem to be any way around it as of right now.

Oh yeah and what's that? I'm rooted, rommed, and on the best kernel. Problem persists. And a factory reset will do nothing but waste that poor guys time.
Another thing i observed, even when wifi is off and i turned off screen..looks like device is always awake ?. I turend off wifi, location, disabled lots of apps using package disabler.... still no luck.
I am not rooted.
I haven't tried factory reset yet.
it's the wlan_rx_wake, and wlan_wake wakelocks. For me arter97 kernel has decreased the wakelocks but it doesnt eliminate them. Still better than stock. Meanwhile lets just wait for the marshmallow. The only hope.
I have the arter kernel too and honestly have more faith in him fixing it than a new touchwiz build.
Yeah..just waiting for Marshmallow. . Hoping it would fix this issue ?

I've had the same problem, and I've solved it. It's just a rogue app, and I can bet on it. After a clean install (I know it's a pain) just restore few apps at a time, till you start getting the drain again, that way, narrow down on the app(s) causing the WiFi wakelock. Does your problem persist even on a clean ROM install, with no user downloaded apps?

I'm sorry to hear that. Guess you're outta luck till there's an official update, then. But OP seems to have a rogue app
I have also noticed this issue. When on campus with WiFi switched on all day, android system kills my battery and keeps my phone awake constantly. But at home, this isn't an issue. It more than likely has something to do with the constant switching of routers that have the best signal. Even though I have my "Keep WiFi on during sleep" setting set to "only when plugged in" Android System still tends to keep my phone awake. Unfortunately I can't root and switch kernels because I have ATT ..hopefully Marshmallow will help.

Yeah I know this wasn't the point of the thread, but this is exactly what happens to me. If my WiFi is on and I leave the phone off for a while I get no push notifications for anything, I only noticed one morning when I'd left WiFi on and woke up, when I turned it off and went back to mobile data, all my notifications came. It's not much of an issue for me as I don't use WiFi really, I get 20gb data a month so my mobile data is on 24/7 and get no problems with that.

a lot of this has to do with the battery conservation features of Oreo. every oreo phone i've had has had this issue unless it was a custom ROM built over a 7.1 kernel

Yes I agree, I've had constant problems with notifications for a year or more now, stock and custom ROMs, this is actually the first time I've not had a problem with them, except on WiFi like I mentioned. Everything comes through straight away on mobile data, even when the phone's been asleep for several hours.
