[Q] Update Woes!

I was hoping someone out there would be able to help me. I have been trying to find the related threads to aid my quest in updating my Motorola Razr I to Jelly Bean to no avail. The firmware is an orange gb one. I tried to install one I downloaded in a different thread. One that set my version to 81.5.31002.xt890.orange.en.gb but that didn't help.
The issue is I get the update in about phone > system updates. It downloads but fails to install. The update lists itself as the system version without the orange part in the firmware name. I spoke to Motorola who just said send it back in but I dont really want to spend 10 days or more without my handset especially now that I have tried to put a updated rom on it. I wondered if anyone had an update.zip or something I could run from recovery that would install the latest version. Or someone who could help / point me in the right direction of how to install an unbranded rom so I could try the update from that?
I love this phone but this kind of stuff is a real pain!
Thanks in advance

Fixed the issue myself. Needed to unlock the bootloader and root the phone to get it installed. I am hoping I can now close the bootloader or at least unroot the device! if you need help give me a shout and I can talk you through it.

[Q] Information Overload!

OK, I've read so much that things are just getting jumbled in my brain now. There's so much information in these threads that I don't know where to start. The world of Android apparently moves too fast for me to keep up. I've got a Verizon LG G2 that is stuck on 4.4.2, software version 24A. Right after I took the OTA KK upgrade I rooted with IORoot25. I don't think I've done anything other than root, however I have somehow can create the mobile hot spot without permissions. Not sure if there was an .apk that was put on when I rooted or how I did it because it was over a year ago.
Ever since I rooted, my phone tries to push OTA updates but they are always unsuccessful. Every morning I have to hit "Install Later" becasue it tried over night and failed. Besides this being a bit annoying, I haven't been concerned becasue the only OTAs since I got 4.4.2 was supposedly some small patch that didn't really do much (from what I read). But, the other day it notified me that it wanted to push Lollipop and needless to say, I want it.
My problem: I don't know what the hell to do! Besides rooting, I'm pretty sure the only thing I've done is download Flashify and backup my stock recovery. Flashify doesn't show that I have a custom recovery, nor do I ever remember installing one. Just whatever came with the IORoot25. Oh, and it looks like I Quarantined LGSetupWizard using App Quarentine. Pretty sure that's it. So, where do I go from here?? I'm wanting to move to Lollipop, then possibly de-bloat it, and would like a custom recovery so that I can create nandroid backups and possibly start trying out other custom ROMs.
I had an OG Droid for years and would flash ROMs frequently until I upgraded to a RAZR MAXX. Once I got the MAXX, and now the LG, all I've really done is root and hack the wifi, so I'm REALLY out of the loop now! Everything seems so complicated becasue there's just too much info out there. Could somebody please guide me in the right direction to make this as smooth as possible??
Thanks for reading and helping a NooB out. Ugh...can't believe I have to start calling myself that again!!
You could 'freeze' the update so it doesn't pop up every morning. IF you want to update- you can unroot it and then take the update and re-root it and fix the hotspot thing. I'm in the same boat, I'm about to do the same myself.

Thanks for the response. Hoe do I "freeze" the update? If I do decide to take the update and re-root, and especially if I start loading custom ROMs, I know I'm going to want to do this in the future. I've been getting theses OTA update notifications everyday for months now!!
Also, what's the easiest way to unroot?
AS long as you are running stock I believe you can accept the OTA without unrooting: I haven't done it yet as I haven't had a few free hours, but I'm going to try it tonight.
there are plenty of apps that allow you to freeze apps- titanium Backup Pro is one that comes to mind.

update 5.1 lmy4ze with ota on new vzw xt1103 or stay stock?

Wondering if I should update downloaded ota then root or will the update screw things up like locking my boot loader and installing things I don't want or that will make customizing more difficult or impossible? Have had real bad luck with Verizon ota's in the past when it comes to rooting, unlocking, jailbreaking etc... And from what I've been reading on other threads this and other nexus ota updates have been really buggy especially with WiFi and BT. Mine works perfect right now and all I really want is to root it and remove the update file and turn off the update app. Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you want root, first thing you should do is unlock the bootloader. Second thing you should do is read all the threads regarding root in the SuperSU subforum. Third thing is you want marshmallow because battery life, in my experience, is far better.
I haven't experienced any buggy WiFi or BT with either of my N6s. Just because you had bad luck in the past doesn't mean you'll have the same experience with this phone. The only bad luck you'll encounter would come from your own inexperience.

Its a Nexus. Even Verizon ota's won't lock it. Update it, unlock the boot loader before or after. Flash back, flash forward, flash sideways. It is all up to you. The entire os/image is downloadable from Google, it is a fully ipen phone.
There are no widespread problems with Marshmallow. It is great. You get that impression because only the people with problems post.
So I would stop reading threads about problems and just read the threads about flashing and customizing.
Take the ota's up to the current version.
Unlock the bootloader.
Flash TWRP.
Flash systemless root version 2.65 from chainfire.
That will get you started.
Thanks for the advice all, did the updates, unlocked the boot loader & rooted. Easiest phone ever to mod !

Recover semi/softbrick, Downgrade, Lollipop Install -- Memopad 7 (ME572 only)

Hi All,
When I soft-bricked (long night and stupid choices of tweaking system files), I was unable to boot. Stuck at the Asus logo, at times not even the Asus logo would show. I took a few days but I finally figured it out.
After numerous methods tried and numerous failed attempts, I have narrowed down a successful process for recovering, downgrading and installing Lollipop. Please keep in mind that all cases are unique and this may not work for everyone. The zip folder contains all the tools and firmware builds needed to recover, downgrade, update your tablet.
Please note that this method was only tested on the non-LTE version of the tablet. This method may work if you substitute the firmware files. You can find links to these in the zip.
Another Note. To unbrick, follow the downgrade process. This should unbrick you.
By Clicking Download you agree that I in no way take any responsibility, liability either legally, morally, financially or any other way you could blame me for what you do or these applications do to your tablet or the opposite end of the spectrum, the amount of success to expect. This is at your own risk. I am only providing what I did to resolve my issue in hopes that it may help others.
IMPORTANT: You will lose all you data on the internal memory.
If you agree to the above please feel free to Download (1.87GB)

A lot can go wrong if you don't know what you are doing. If you don't know what you are doing, stop to ask in a forum. You look dumber making a mistake by assuming than asking the most basic of question. So please don't feel embarrassed to ask what may seem obvious or simple. There is also a FAQ below which I will update as needed.
Unfortunately I have to throw this in here:Questions regarding the LTE version will not be answered as I do not have this device.
Huge Credit goes to 4pda members for creating some of these tools that helped me create this all in one zip.
FAQ
Q: Will this void my warranty?
Absolutely
Q: Can you upload only certain files? I don't want to download the large 1.87GB zip.
Sorry, I don't have time to dig through and upload specific folders/files on an individual basis. Someone else however may do so if you ask nicely.
Q: Do I have to install Lollipop or Xposed**?
No, once you are on KitKat, you can stay on KitKat. **Do not install xposed unless you are on Lollipop, won't work anyway since the KitKat image isn't rooted.
Q: Can I take OTA updates?
A: I would advise against it and it will most likely not work or corrupt the device. You should disable/freeze (do not remove) the FOTA Update apk and update apks to make sure you don't receive them by accident.
Q: Can I use this method to install a non-rooted Lollipop firmware image?
A: Untested. Since you can't take the OTA anyway, root shouldn't hurt anything. Just open the SuperSU APK and set it to Deny All if root makes you paranoid.
Q: Will this work for the LTE version?
A: As it is zipped, no. The tools however should work. When I was researching the tools seemed to be device unbiased (except for the firmware). Included in the zip are the original links I used for research. There you can find the LTE version of the firmware images.
Q: Can I share this on other forums?
Sure, just please be sure to keep the zip unmodified and not take credit. The guys on 4pda took a lot of time developing and posting these tools. It took me some time as well to create instructions and gather the required files.
Reserved.
For what I don't know, but just in case.
Successfully downloaded. Thx for the work.
Hello SyCoREAPER, where did you get the firmware and recovery files? I was thinking of using your method for ME176C but I don't have the necessary files. If you can provide some links on where you obtained the files I will search from there. Thanks

I was debating answering or not. If you bothered reading the above or downloading the files you'd see where they came from.
will give this a go when mine arrives in next day or two
just one question...

Hello. The key to download is not workin. I enter the key exectly as u have it and when I hit OK, it keeps popin back up askin for it again. Is there something I'm doin wrong?
Thank you !
Thank you !!! I've just bought this model ME572c a few days ago. My tablet was bricked (black screen) after OTA update to WW_V12.14.1.12. I've managed to flash with your instructions, but when i try again to OTA update to WW_V12.14.1.12, just after finishing the update, tablet reboots and remains with black screen. I ve tryed to update from SD card (with official firmware and your lollipop firmware) and the same thing happens. Do you have any ideea why is this happening. Thank you very much !!
File download link?
Hello,
Came across this thread as I was planning to revive my old ME572C (5.0.1, getting laggy). Download links no longer work. Any chance you'd reupload the files?
Thanks!

Please help! Bricked but fixable, but not sure how!

Ok, so here it goes:
I own a at&t galaxy s4 active , the day the lollipop ota came , I updated successfuly. THEN, I used KINGROOT and successfully temp rooted it.... HERE'S WHERE MY SCREWUP comes in- I DIDN'T flash any custom recovery, and while I was deleting some system bloatware, I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED THE BUILD.PROP!! Now the phone will boot,, but not into the OS.
I know its a VERY dumb rookie mistake, I'm new to Samsung devices, I've always been an HTC guy, and I'm definitely not New to rooting , unlocking bootloaders, etc. But Never on Samsung devices...
So I'm pleading, if anyone can give me any advice on how to fix this, PLEASE lemme know, it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

DON'T USE KINGROOT! Sorry to yell about it, but I can't stand that monstrocity. Unfortunately there are no lollipop firmware files, so you're going to have to follow my process detailed here to get back to working lollipop rooted:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63639949&postcount=2
There's no way to unlock this phone's bootloader so you can't have a custom recovery anyway
