Are you curious why space on your phone is using up so quickly? Do you want to know what this "Reserved space and other content" actually mean?
Just want to share an application I developed using Heathcliff74's WP7 Root SDK. It can help to show some light on the mystery "Reserved and Other" space shown in Zune desktop.
What it does:
This application will scan your phone and tell you how many space it takes for each category of files and each folder.
Categories including:
1. Music, Video and Picture.
The real space it takes. Including downloaded content and content not managed by Zune.
2. Applications
Know how much space each application you installed has taken, including their install file and their data file.
Space used by each folder on the phone is also listed.
Known issues:
1. Files and some Folders in root folder are not enumulated. I did not find a way to enum the root folder using Root SDK yet. So I have do perform a manul list of folders I think should be located at the root folder.
It is still in early stage. I even did not add the about page yet. It is pretty useful even at this stage. We can also start many interesting discussions from the data revealed. I want to share it anyway.
System Requirement: Any system that supports WP7 Root Tools!
Help needed: Anyone can suggest an icon and spash screen image for this tool?
A big thank to Heathcliff74 for the Root SDK!
How to obtain root access using WP7 Root Tools
1. Download WP7 Root Tools. Download from http://www.wp7roottools.com.
2. Install WP7 Root Tools. You may need to reboot your phone a few times during the install.
3. In WP7 Root Tools, go to Policies page, assign "Trusted" permission for Storage Analyzer.
Discussions:
1. Why music, pictures and video folders take more space that they show in Zune?
2. Each application will has their own "Content.IE5" folder. It will be a good idea to clean them up.
3. What are thees folders called Volatile*? Are they safe to delete?
Can you add the GUID of the applications in the listing... same as appSiege
Hey Guys,
I have a question..
I have an unlocked Ativ S with full file access.
Now iam searching for an installed XAP on my Device.
For my knowledge the xaps are encrypted and after installing them from the marketplace they are decrypted.
And what i want to know where can i find them on my phone?
especially iam searching for the gopro app which is a free app but doesn't work with the new gopro 4 version.
So i hope i can find a way to fix that with the xap.
But thats only possible if i can open the xap with a zip tool.
Hope you guys can help me and understand what i mean.
thx
The decompressed xaps are stored under D:\Data\Programs\ You'll see many GUIDS which coincide with the APP GUID. If you search for the app on windowsphone.com, you'll be able to see the app guid in the url segment.
You can't get the decrypted xap.
But you can repack the unencrypted .xap by zipping the collection of installed content as a same.
"C:\Data\Programs" (for WP8.0 Apps)
"C:\Data\Programs\WindowsApps (for WP8.1 Apps)

Under that string, there are only a few Cached pics:
Computer\Samsung ATIV S\Phone\Data\programs\{BCA90C60-10C7-4009-B8B0-13DF4EBCF9DA}
You may not be using full filesystem access, just the low-privilege version that you get if MtpSvc runs from C:\ but not as LOCALSYSTEM. Assuming you're capability-unlocked, you can use the AllCapabilities version of my webserver to access the install folders of each app.
Note that the actual "\Data\Programs\" folder is not readable by the webserver, but if you know the subfolder you want (such as an app's GUID) you can use that to browse and it works fine.
Note also that the apps are installed in a subfolder (called Install) of the GUID folder. So for example, the install directory for the GoPro app is
Code:
\Data\programs\{BCA90C60-10C7-4009-B8B0-13DF4EBCF9DA}\Install

Nice app
Inviato dal mio Nexus 4 utilizzando Tapatalk
New version 1.2.0
- Exclude files from sync using patterns
- Minor UI improvements
- Minor bug fixes
Thanks for your work, my friend, I use your app on all of my devices. It's working like charm, reliable and very easy to use!
New version 1.2.1
- Improve comparing method (using also MD5 sums) of files. Mostly, reduces sync times and data traffic during first sync where common files exist on both local and Google Drive directories.
Thanks for this APP
New version 1.3.0
- Add option to skip deletion of files for upload and download sync methods
- Add functionality to edit sync entry options
- Add more predefined sync freq intervals
- Update Google libs (smaller footprint in memory and in storage)
- Minor bug fixes
Nice update, my friend! I really like the option to edit existing sync jobs.
Drive Syncrypt Premium upgrade 40% off!!!
Looks like this app is exactly what I need, except I'm out of space on my internal storage .... The documentation is very clear that it's not possible to write to external SD, however I am wondering if a workaround could be employed to resolve this Android constraint?
There is such a workaround for Titanium Backup (I copied the below from this post: post )
There is an elegant way of giving TitaniumBackup write access to the external sdcard, without having to forfeit security (as in method 3 below).
Since the time of Android 4.3, Google uses a very clean security-solution by giving apps that request write access to external SD, permission only to their own folder - not to the entire card!
In order to get TitaniumBackup to work without compromising security, you can simply create a folder on the external sdcard, using the following folder-structure: /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/
If you already have existing backups, move them with a file-explorer from their current place to: /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/
Lastly, go tothe preferences of TitaniumBackup, choose "Backup folder location" and choose the above specified folder.
I looked in /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/ for an equivalent for Drive Syncrypt but could not find one otherwise I would have tested this idea myself.
Is there any chance a workaround like this could be found?

Thanks for your feedback.
I think this is not an efficient solution for Drive Syncrypt, because this means that you had to copy all your files that you want to upload or sync in the specific directory. But what about files that other apps generates? Other apps could not have access to Drive Syncrypt's directory.
I think that access to external SD is pain in KitKat for apps, and it's not possible to have this feature in Drive Syncrypt as I would like.

I agree it might not suit everyone but if you would indulge me a little further?
Not sure it is difficult and I apologise if the text I copied made it seem harder than it really is - literally all I had to do was create the equivalent folder in my external SD (/storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/) and then titanium backup was able to find the folder and back up to it. So my theory was this could be a workaround for Drive Syncrypt.
My use case is purely to have my Drive files available offline on my external SD, so I appreciate the workaround might not be useful for folks who use it for other purposes. I would expect folks who do not want to store files on external SD would simply not use this workaround though.
Thanks for your consideration. And thanks for developing the app of course!

It's true that in KitKat an app may use external SD but only in it's private space (the specific directory).
Unfortunately, with current version of Drive Syncrypt you can't do anything (unless you do something tricky). I will think about it for the next version, although I suspect that there will be a lot of issues and negative impression. Most people will thing that something is wrong with the app.
BTW, is your device rooted?
If yes, you could try to create a symbolic link from a internal SD directory to the external SD ( /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.semaphore.drivesyncrypt). Then you could select that directory as a sync entry.
Thanks for your consideration. My phone is rooted but external SD is not format as ext so symlink doesn't work. Thanks anyway
Pro version of the app is very usefull

Hi @stratosk, hope you are doing well. May I ask, is Drive Syncrypt compatible with Nougat? Thanks and regards.
I'm sorry if I asking in the wrong places...
I just installed `root browser`. I can see all my data folder including the `database` created using `android studio`. But when I try to access the table, `root browser` will crashed. Do I need to download another software in order to access the `database` content ?
Thanks
Sorry for probably wrong-posting, but I need a solution _fast_!! Can anybody help me _please_?
I'm a Windows user, I don't really know much about Linux-based systems & thus am not able to interpret any logs or do Linux console commands and stuff... and the fbind readme / help isn't all that easy to understand for Linux-illiterates either. Problem:
I mounted a folder from my external SD card to my internal SD by adding the following line to the config.txt file:
from_to InternalFolder .externalfolder
This seems to _work_, my 'old' app (Maverick from Code Sector) now sees all map tile data that is actually on the external card within the internal folder & can access it.
However, after 2 days or so, the folder link suddenly seems to be 'gone' (internal folder shows as empty). Only solution is to reboot the phone, then all is back to normal again.
I already tried to turn off battery savings for the Magisk app and for Maverick, with had no effect.
Question: what could cause this 'disappearance' of an as it seems correctly bound folder? What could I do to keep such links 'alive' even when they are not used/accessed for a longer time? Is there an *easy way* to 'reset' fbind without rebooting the phone? Or did I forget an important command in the config.txt / should I add something beside the above line?
