GearVR and Remote Play - Samsung Gear VR

Is there any chance of this happening anytime soon? I mean playing Playstation, or PC games through the VR would be awesome. Not a full VR experience, but just the ability to play.

Check out the video below to get games on your PC to gear vr. And remote play on PC. You will need to stop the gear vr service or make sure the phone is not connected to the usb to try this.

Where to get all the apps?

Am I stupid? I for the life of me cannot find where to get any of the apps? Oculus app? MilkVR? Where do I get them??
I'm in Canada and because Samsung is a bi**h they still don't provide any here. I want to try and watch VR videos and such with the Google Carboard that I have but for the life of me don't understand why it's so difficult! I have an s5, cardboard and some mp4 videos that are top/bottom for whatever reason. I'm assuming that the app flips them somehow? Otherwise, how are you supposed to watch? I'm very confused here, please help!
You can't get the Gear VR apps without the Gear VR. They won't work even if you could load them without the Gear VR.
Look for an app called "cardboard theatre" it will let you play those over under files.

Gear VR for S6/S6 Edge and some questions

Hi,
I got my Gear VR an S6 Edge however I am not able to find interesting content.
I'd appreciate if any one can point me to the correct direction.
First, I am looking for some fun games. Do we have any racing games ?
Or any game that could also be used with a Bluetooth controller ?
When I started the app on Gear VR for the first time, I had skipped controller guide. Now I don't know how to get back to it. ?
I saw Insurgent as a different experience but on my S6 edge it doesn't install. The 400MB download completes at 100% then it says that the app can not be installed.
Where else can I find content for my Gear VR ? Other than Occulus store ? because it seems that Occulus store is very limited.
(I have a rooted S6 edge so I can install from any source available)
Thanks.
I'd appreciate any answers
I've opened tickets to Occulus store and Samsung support for the Insurgent VR download issue. Has anyone else experienced this problem ?
About the bluetooth game controller; does anyone have any experience ?
1.How can I start the controller guide ?
2.Which title supports controller ?
3.Any racing games ?
Thanks.
answer to my own questions:
I couldn't find the controller guide but I've paired my controller to the phone and it seems to work.
I could only find one title supporting controller: VR Karts
it plays fine and it is sort of racing game.
What other titles support controller ?
And, any other racing games ?

Best thing you can do to reload the controller tutorial is uninstall oculus home and reinstall know it took me back through both when I did it. Not really sure of any racing games yet you can play temple run vr (kinda like racing...i guess....not really... but ya know) it's located in store from the home menu then look up where it says all/samsung click all. And titles that support controller you'll have to search through them just click the app and go to details should tell you how game is controlled from there. Most of the content for gear is in the store though, you can sideload downloaded vr videos to milkvr (look around at some of these threads itll give you directions) and photos to vrgallery and .mp4 movies to oculus cinema. Note 4 version has a few more experiences that oculus hasn't uploaded to the s6( like cirque due solei zarkana). As far as games go if anyone knows of a way to play dk1 or dk2 games on the gear let me know cause I've definitely been looking for a way.
ok. I've gone through the controller tour.
remaining questions:
1.Which title supports controller ?
2.Any racing games ?
hi mrmrmrmr!
Just some info you may allready have: currently there are not many possibilities to get new Gear VR content.
1. The Oculus Store = the official way to get your content which gets preinstalled with the Gear VR Service
2. www.sideloadvr.com = a platform for Gear VR devs / testers where everyone can submit content
3. VR Jam Submissions = Gear VR content submitted at the Oculus Mobile VR Jam 2015
Your question which one supports a bluetooth controller is not easy to answer. Most games support a bluetooth controller to just replace the touchpad / buttons on the Gear VR so you just dont have to hold your hand up to the Gear all the time. Only for a few titles out there a bluetooth controller is mandatory (like VR Karts..).
As for racing games on the Gear VR i didnt found any "real" racing games. VR Karts is funny but not really "the racing game" i would like to play in VR.
Regards and have fun mate! :highfive:
@clonednull
thanks for the information. I had thought that there would be real racing games.
and also games playable through controller only.
anyway. we'll have to wait.

Run Oculus Apps without Gear VR Headset

I don't have the actual Gear VR headset for my Note 4. But I did manage to get the Oculus app to work and running. Even managed to download some apps for it. But I can't get any of the apps to open. I get the message "To open this application, insert your device into your Gear VR".
Surely there must be a way to trick it into thinking it's inserted into the Gear VR headset so that I can use it on my generic VR headset.
Does anyone know how? My searches have only yielded results about editing the AndroidManifest.xml of which I can only assume to be the actual package apk file of each app. Which I don't think applies to what I'm trying to do.
Any ideas? Thanks.
Ok I was able to enable Developer Mode from within Settings->Gear VR Service->Manage Storage and tapping on the version number 7 times.
That was AFTER I installed Sideload VR and created an Oculus account to obtain an Oculus Signature file and from Sideload, downloaded a sample apk with my sig injected into it.
Which now allows me to run Oculus apps without needing to insert it into a Gear VR.
However, I've noticed that nothing moves. It's not sensing my phone's gyroscopes so all is useless. And further searching suggests that Oculus uses a built-in gyro head tracking system INSIDE the Gear VR. Which is strange. I've always thought the Gear VR was just a headset shell. Why wouldn't it use the phone's gyros for movements?

It's because the gear vr sensors are significantly more sensitive than standard phone gyros for a smoother and entirely better /more comfortable experience. The gear VR is far from just a shell, really is worth the cost.

I have the developerboard and flashed the open rift firmware on it. My pc detects it as a rift dk1. When I connect the board to my fone with a hist cable the board lights up nicely.
But I am unable to get oculus home running without a gearvr. (The chip on the board is the same as in the dk1 and I think the gear vr uses that chip too)
So any help getting oculus home running on my s6 with gear vr would be great!
nevermind
I've got it all working.. in developer mode I can start oculus home and the ST32f3 board works great. I have head tracking!!
Trying to develop on the oculus and i can't seem to figure out where to put the sig file. I put it in /assets and it still tells me it needs to have me plug it into my unit, which is a pain.
You must turn development mode on.
In android go to settings, apps, app manager, gear vr service. There tab the version a few times. If you have placed you signature file correctly you will see you are a developer. Then in gear vr service you now have a switch for developer mode. Turn it on and test away!
I succeeded in repeating what Thai did. I can now run Oculus VR app and access Oculus video or Netflix VR but I cannot navigate within each app on my AT&T Note 4. I beleive this is due to the reasons stated earlier that the gear VR has different / more sensitive sensors than the note 4 itself.
Any idea on how to adjust the sensor configs to work with the internal note 4 components?
Also I am trying to get this working to use with my kids Viewmaster VR goggles which are awesome just want to be able to do netflix and watch our own movies in VR.
i managed to enable developer mode but my gyroscope doesnt seem to be working with the oculus apps, is there any way i can enable my s6's gyroscope with the apps, or at least a way to control the apps, touching the screen doesnt really do much when the cursor is dead at the middle of the screen.
I don't think so but what you can do (I've done this and works great) is get a stm32f3discovery board for about 25$ on ebay. Then flash the open gear vr firmware and you are good to go.
And if you connect the board to a pc and install the open source foculus rift drivers and you have a gtx videocard you can play Dk1 stuff!!
http://www.roadtovr.com/can-now-clone-gear-vr-test-virtual-reality-apps/
Simply use a micro USB extension cable to connect the Gear VR with the cable to the phone, then you don't have to wear the headset but can still move it to see the response on the screen
Oculus
Where does Oculus keep the apk files downloaded, there is this demo I downloaded and than uninstalled, but it keeps in my Library to install again and there is no way to get rid of it, is it possible to delete that file manually? Also where does Oculus download the apk files on your phone? Thank you
Controller
I was wondering whether a bluetooth controller could navigate the gear vr without having to use the gyro sensors. This could be good as it removes the need for the board
Apk

Run The Netflix Gear Vear app in a Moto Max
I looking everywhere trying for any possible way to run the Netflix app for VR, in another devices out of samsung. I selling a generic low cost VR Headset and the people want to see Netflix in their device. There is a way to make this posible?
How?
ok guys, i had a sneaky suspicion that the new gear vr "powered by oculus" was just a glorified cardboard box in disguise.
so i downloaded the oculus home apk (use google) then put vr in developer mode - works 100%. thanks guys

about 3d movies

i got a question about playing 3d movies on the gear vr...i saw lots of tutorials how to watch them and this thing really got me confused.....so after u convert the videos and all you can watch them using the player inside the oculus apk by having the cinema(etc) background .why cant it be played by not connecting the phone to the gear usb or by using package disabler and be full screen ? i'm sorry if this is a dumb question but i really want to know......
You can do as you say but the aspect will be all wrong in most apps. You can adjust the pixel ratio within Kodi to compensate but this will use your VR as simply a 3D viewer (no vr theatre). If you want to view your movie full screen in 2D from your phone directly, use Kodi ( Isangard downloaded from kodi website- Jarvais version from Play Store doesn't work) and select view 3D movies as 2D/monoscopic.
im more than happy using kodi to view 3d files after adjusting the settings.
If I helped, please use the thanks button. ?

I don't do tutorials because I suck at them but I have put together a small video to explain this for you. Basically setup kodi to your viewing liking and insert it in your gear VR (or not).
https://youtu.be/NB-z5haFm0c
Thank you very much for that.
I did all that. But when I put my phone in it opens up oculus app.

Gear VR Service has to be disabled first. If your phone is rooted then you can just freeze it. If you are not rooted you can use a package disabler from the play store. (Use search). If you just want to try it out first just lift the USB port on the gear vr and sneak your phone under it - a little loose, but works.
Ace that's great thank you. I have a package disabler already that I use to stop the game stuff running as the picture is crap!! Thank you ever so much. I know what I'll be doing tonight ?
I use MilkVR to watch all 3D movies. If you dont live in the US dl it though a proxyserver.
so milk vr is like oculus cinema cause i try to see my own movies and the oculus video said to put through the camera, i dont know if oculus put it up from the sd card of sg7?

New, free and easy way to run any VR app or game on Gear VR-prevent Oculus auto-start

I found a new way to prevent Oculus app from starting automatically on your phone when plugged into new Gear VR allowing you to run your desired VR app or game and enjoy it on Gear VR!
Here's how: http://androaddyct.blogspot.in/
There is a guidance and working video too! Check it out.
Please hit Thanks if this method worked for you.
Thanks! Of course, we can do it.
But how can we use the Touchpad and Buttons of Samsung Gear VR when running Cardboard apps?
You still need a tool Play Cardboard or this FREE TOOL
Either that or Bluetooth Gamepad works equally well.
