I have a moto X with a shattered screen and broken digitizer that I'm about to send in to Motorola. Is there a way to backup sms and stuff from the phone via usb fastboot or adb? debugging was not enabled when the phone took a tumble, but it turns on and i can get pictures and stuff off the device. Trying to boot back to fastboot or recovery hasnt been working for me since I can only hold the power button until it shuts off and i dont know when to hold the buttons down to get it back on :/
Thanks for any help!

My white G1 is stuck on the G1 Tmobile screen I have not done anything different to the phone nor had it near water. Pulled the battery out and checked and circle is white ( no water damage ). What could be wrong I cannot even get into recovery mode by pressing Home & Power.
HELP PLEASE.
Can you get into bootloader? Cam + Power?
if not, you will have to call tmobile.
if your rooted and can access bootloader, you can restore your phones nandroid backups through fastboot
Evening folks..
I have a Nexus 6 that fell from pocket and screen cracked to include the digitizer. The screen flicks white light but mostly black screen. I want to turn phone in for repairs but i would like to back up all my data. USB Debugging option is not on. Is there another method to pull the data from the phone without having to use USB Debugging and/or screen touch?
Rooted - with [ROM][N6][6.0.1_r3][MMB29K] Chroma 12/10/2015 - but did not back up my phone
Any ideas?
Sorry for the late reply. i was recently in this same situation.
Heres what i did, you can do the same (assuming you have twrp and a computer with adb drivers)
Hold volume down and power, it should vibrate then let go of the keys.
wait 3 seconds and press the volume down key two times, then press the power button (this will put your phone in recovery)
wait a good 10 seconds then plug your phone to your computer, then using adb commands run "adb devices" make sure it sees your phone, then run "adb pull /sdcard"
my moto x 2014 display is broken ....it wont show anything just black screen but the phone still works ..i get messages ...since its on marshmellow
ill have to unlock it and change the usb options from charging only to media storage but display is broken and i cant do that however is there any way i could access the files through pc ..its not rooted but usb debugging is on and also its connected to the wifi ..i tried adb but it wont show any devices because the phone is on charging only mode ...is there anything i can do about this??? any help would be appriciated
Have you tried adb while the phone is at the bootloader? To get to the bootloader, turn off the phone, then press and hold the power button and the volume down button at the same time for about 5-7 seconds. Then release the power button, but continue to hold the volume down button for 3 more seconds. You should then be at the bootloader. I am not sure if adb will work then, but it's worth a shot.
Hello guys im kinda crazy about this
i have a moto x xt1058 and it had a bad camera so i bought the replacement and i open the phone carefully like the video and i did the replacement then when i started to reassemble it i connected the battery before connecting power and volume buttons to the phone so i connected them when my phone auto started and it booted well in android 5.1 stock when i put the battery, then i finish the reassembly but i realized that my buttons were not working so i connected my phone to adb and i put adb reboot then it boot normaly but only volume buttons were working, power button was not working. then i open it only to see the buttons flex and it was connected good and didnt damage it. so i rebooted again with adb and surpirse phone after logo shows a black screen, and only active display was showing, i connected to pc and didnt recognize nothing then the battery died and actually its charging. i cant boot to fastboot because i dont know why power button doesnt work
What Can i DO, please i cant take it to repair it is too expensive. it had all stock 5.1 with unlocked bootloader.
sorry for my english, isnt my first language.
I would let it die again or power it off as you can , remove the camera replacement, put buttons and then battery back, see if phone works again.

This is a hardware issue. Sounds like you damaged the cable to the power button even if you think you did not.

So the other day, I managed to hulk smash my Moto X 2014 Glass and LCD completely. Funnily enough, the phone works fine, minus the whole display part.
So my question now is, how can I extract the data from this 2014 Moto X given it's condition.
And is there a cheap option for replacing the Glass + LCD for this device and or the whole phone itself.
Looking forward to your suggestions :good:

If you were completely stock, you may be able to do an adb pull once the phone is booted up.
If you've got a custom recovery installed, you can just boot to recovery, then connect to the computer. Should give you access to everything other than system files.
Honestly, you may even be able to do the second one with the stock recovery, but I'm not sure. I think recovery is the second option at the bootloader screen. Even if you can't see, you just power device off. Then hold volume down and power. Sometimes I have to hold it for a long time and release before it goes to bootloader. I usually make sure the device is powered down. Press and hold volume down and power until I see a red light flash by the upper speaker grill. About 10-12 seconds. Then release both buttons. Wait for about 8 seconds after you release, then just volume down to highlight recovery, and volume up to select. Computer should recognize it as a storage device.

If I remember correctly, I had installed TWRP 3.0.0 and flashed a stock Marshmallow 6.0 ROM that was linked to in a guide here on XDA from late 2015.
Would the sequence for TWRP be similar as well?
Also are there any other potentially easier options for data extraction or is this the way?

If you flashed a ROM via TWRP, and never overwrote it, then it should still be there.
The only alternative I can think of, which may not work, is to connect the phone and boot it up. If you've enabled adb in settings already, and had the device share a key, then you could open up a command prompt in the folder with adb and fast boot. Then type adb reboot recovery. That should do it. If not, the way I mentioned is the only way I know, short of doing an adb pull /data I believe. Don't quote me on those last adb directions.
I guess to "close off" this thread, I ended up buying a used Moto X 2014 locally, since it was cheaper than the LCD kit.
I then followed the guide from JerryRigEverything
and proceeded to swap the motherboard from my broken phone into the working device.
I should note that I had to use a T3 screwdriver versus the T4 torx that is mentioned in the video, which are harder to find.
Also, dictionary, (not sure how to properly quote your username) I realized what you were talking about once the screen was working again. For this device however, I had to press and hold the volume down button. Then I press and hold the power button for a couple seconds then release it, while holding down the volume down button. This took me to the boot screen where I was able to scroll down to the recovery and load TWRP. From here, when connected to the computer, the contents of the phone were accessible via the Android File Transfer app.
