Touch screen defect - map Back key to hardware keyboard? - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

My trusty Milestone's touch screen stopped working (defect ribbon cable maybe - it wasn't exposed to anything unusual).
Since I'm only using it as a bluetooth hotspot I don't need the touch screen that badly since it's possible to navigate most menus using the D-Pad.
BUT it's not possible to go back or to the home screen (or I haven't found out how) so here's what I would like to do:
Map the Back (and Home key maybe) to the hardware keyboard.
I tried mapping Back to the physical search key in /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl
Code:
key 217 BACK WAKE_DROPPED
But it shows no effect :crying:
Can anyone provide help?

How to disable my ENTER key?

Hi guys,
My X1 has developed a really annoying fault. It seems the enter key (the optical joystick button) is getting randomly pressed, which totally messes up my texting (it creates a new line) and my calls (it puts the phone in and out of hold).
This is not fixed by using the "disable optical joystick" option, which just stops the joystick functionality, and not the actual press Enter functionality.
Is there some way i can fiddle with the registry etc, perhaps with Total commander, and stop this key doing anything at all? it really is life or death for the phone.
Thanks for any help you can give.
John
If it actually is a hardware problem that produces that input you could use an application like AEButton Plus to make that key only press enter when you press it three times in a row, or long, and to do nothing otherwise. That way you could actually still use the key.

[Q] Hardware buttons as mouse

So my digitizer broke and I need to replace it, but it will take about a week. I remember long ago, there was a program that allowed hardware d-pad buttons control a mouse. Like up would move and onscreen mouse up down would move it down, etc. To click on something, the center button would be pressed. Does anyone remember what that program is and whether it could be mapped to the diamond's 4 buttons plus volume or something? I would like to be able to still use my phone while I wait for my replacement digitizer. Or does anyone have any suggestions for other solutions besides just waiting?

[SOLVED] Make the physical home button only wake the device not go home?

So I'm making it so I can only use the software buttons that I've enabled and so far I've got the capacative buttons disabled but what I want is so that the home button can wake the device but that's it. I don't want it to take the device home, I've been changing values in both sec_key.kl and gpio-keys.kl and so far i've either got it completely disabled, acting as a power button or making it work normally (goes home as well as wake). Any ideas? I'm running SuperNexus ROM.
EDIT:
So I've found what seems to be a solution. In gpio-keys.kl change "key 102 HOME WAKE" to "key 102 SOFT_RIGHT WAKE". Seems to not do anything other than wake the phone.

Navigate Setup Screens by OTG USB Keyboard

I just picked up a dirt cheap ME176C on eBay with allegedly a broken digitiser [The screen works, but doesn't respond to touch]. Naturally the previous owner has done a factory reset, so it's stuck on the first setup screen [Choose Language]. Before I decide whether or not it's worth buying a new digitiser for the MemoPad, I want to try and get USB debugging turned on so I can ADB Shell in and have a poke around at the various sensor logs and see if everything else looks OK.
So, the challenge is to navigate through the setup screens without using the touchscreen.
I've got a USB OTG lead, so I've tried plugging a mouse in, but no joy [no cursor appeared]. Then I tried with a USB keyboard and found that, by hitting the Return key, I can pop-up the Language selection menu and then select a language using the keyboard arrow keys. However, I can't find a key [or key combo] that will then change focus to the arrow to take me to the next setup screen.
Does anyone even know if what I'm trying to do is possible? I was quite hopeful, when I hit the Return key on my USB keyboard and saw the Language selector menu pop-up, but there doesn't seem to be any way to move focus to the next UI element on that screen.
