1: Wrong section
2: I guess you didn't even look for your question on what apps to use in order to remove/freeze bloatware
3: Here's a list of what you can remove. If you posted this in the correct section, you would/should have seen this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/help/bloatware-list-removing-t3017459

1. Correct section
2. Useless link. If you remove everything on that list your phone won't work.... Edit, post two is what you are referring to I see. Doesn't really answer the question though. Since it's a blocking tut instead of removal.
3. Pointless forum policing. Not your job.

Actually I had posted in the General forum which was incorrect, this thread was moved.
2. Yes that's a good start but I think that list is overly aggressive. I'm looking for a guide that will remove all the real bloatware that no really every uses.
Thanks!

This was a suggested list of apks to remove. It doesn't tell you what they are, making it half useless for most of the uninitiated. What one person wishes to remove, another may not, and the names of many of these apks is not clear.
I too am fumbling around with this process right now because there still isn't a list of what things are. I'm not whining nor expecting anyone to magically come up with one, but that's the reason OP was asking and you didn't help him much (and came across quite aggressively in doing so).

"Bloatware removal" can result in many negative things.
The easiest would be - if you don't use Facebook, disable everything for it. If you don't use Twitter - disable everything for it. If you don't use Sony accounts - disable everything for them. And let the rest be.
"Removing bloatware" is 99% pointless - you don't save a thing, neither app space nor RAM, compared to plain and simple disabling.

[FAQ] Answers for Noobs who like to ask questions. READ THIS BEFORE ASKING ANYTHING.

Ok. I don't know if this will get stickied or not, I hope it will. Mods can feel free to change the title of the post if need be. Here's a stab at answering a few questions which are asked repeatedly.
First and foremost:
CLICK THE SEARCH BUTTON BEFORE ASKING ANYTHING WHATSOEVER.
Secondly:
IF YOU HAVE ROOTED YOUR PHONE, MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE...THEN SAVE A COPY OF IT TO YOUR DESKTOP
Don't even bother asking for help if you've screwed up a ROM install and don't have a backup. The only advice you'll get is to use the RUU (which can be found here).
Having gotten that out of the way here are some of the typical questions and answers.
#1. What's the fastest/best/most interesting/etc ROM out there.
Answer: Try them all and see. If you read the first page of each ROM thread the bugs/fixes are posted. If you see a thread without the bugs/fixes, READ THE THREAD FOR THAT ROM AND ASK YOUR QUESTIONS IN IT. Do not create a new thread to ask questions like: Does everything work in <INSERT ROMNAME HERE> rom?
#2. How do I...?
Answer: The answer to your question is probably http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=CDMA%20Hero%20Guides. If it's not there, it's almost definitely under search. Stop asking. Stop creating new threads. It just makes people mad and clutters up the forums.
#3. I think I bricked/broke/messed up my phone
Answer: Did you flash a GSM radio on top of a CDMA phone (or vice versa)? Then probably not. Pull your battery, restore from the NANDROID BACKUP I'm certain you made when you first rooted your phone and try again. Almost all bad ROM flashes can be fixed by wiping and reinstalling your ROM. Check your battery level. Never flash a ROM if the level is below 30%.
#4. I'm getting an error after using the RUU (110, etc)
Answer: Check the wiki guides above. There is a thread which tells you how to recover. If you are too lazy to read through the fixes, here is the thread.
#5. The Sprint 2.x upgrade is coming soon! I have pr00f!
Answer: No, you don't. Stop posting new threads to draw attention to yourself. The ROM upgrade will be out when it's out and not before Sprint is ready to release. Any release date you might have heard is tentative at best and flat out wrong in most cases. Stop creating threads about it, we don't care where you got your information.
#6. Audio doesn't work in my custom 2.x ROM
Answer: Try here. There are two fixes in this thread for it.
#7. I just flashed <INSERT ROMNAME HERE> ROM and everything's all screwed up.
Answer: Wipe everything and start over. In your nandroid recovery, select 'Wipe Data/Factory Reset'. When that's done wipe 'Dalvik-Cache'. Then when that's done (if you have installed a2sd (apps2sd)) wipe SD:EXT. Then reflash the ROM. 9 times out of 10 this will fix it. The 10th time, ask in the ROM thread, do NOT create a new thread for your issue.
#8. My battery life sucks. Or: What's the battery life on this ROM?
Answer:
Search. There are a lot of threads about battery life already. If your answer's not there, ask in the ROM thread (after searching that thread of course).
Android Terms:
a2sd/apps2sd: The process of moving user installed applications from internal storage to the SD card
Rosie: Typically used as a term describing certain graphical characteristics of the Android operating system, primarily the 'bottom bar' of the phone. Example: Stock Rosie is curved, espresso Rosie is not, with rounded edges.
Also:
"For the record, with 2.1 we CAN NOT just alter the rosie launcher or the taskbar or the HTC lockbar. The files are all tied up together. This means that, if you have installed someones taskbar mods, and then later you decide you want a different rosie, when you flash the new rosie it WILL undo some of the taskbar mods....UNLESS you have a themer do a custom just for you and provide them a link to the taskbar that you are using. I cannot stress the part about providing them a link enough. That is just common courtesy. There are plenty of folks out here willing to help you. Many will even help you learn to do it yourself. Just ask nice and be patient. This is a hobby for us, too, and we often have our own projects that we are working on." - tejasrichard
There is a way to do both, however:
"And a little correction about changing only the rosie or taskbar, you can if you use metamorph [/QUOTE]
You can find metamorph in the Android Market." -danaff37
JIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalvik_virtual_machine Also see the following URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just-in-time_compilation.
LWP: Live Wallpapers. Animated wallpapers that run on your home screen. Until recently, not available in the HTC Sense UI.
MNS: Mobile Network Sharing. The act of using your cell phone as a USB or WIFI connected internet router. Example: Connecting your desktop/latop to the internet via your cell phone's mobile internet.
AOSP: Android Open Source Project http://source.android.com/
PRI: Profile of your phone. Used by your carrier to set up your network/internet settings.
PRL: Preferred Roaming List. List of cell towers close to your present location. This allows the phone to roam more easily since it has a built-in database of towers, rather than having to search for one.
This is getting too long, so I'm going to summarize:
No one likes reading the same questions over and over. If you can't be bothered to at least search for the answers, do us all a favor and don't say anything.
Stop saying things like 'I didn't feel like reading 300 pages of <INSERT ROMNAME HERE>'s thread. How do I?'...USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION TO SEARCH THAT THREAD.
If you don't read the guides, and instruction posts, then screw up your phone, don't whine about it. It's your own fault. It's not the fault of the ROM dev, or the ROM, or anything else. It's YOUR FAULT. Accept responsibility.
Did someone at the Sprint Store piss you off by not accepting your water damaged phone for replacement? Are you mad because they gave you a refurb instead of a brand new phone? We don't care. This is a DEVELOPMENT FORUM. It's for development of roms/themes/etc and discussions of roms/themes/etc. It's not a place to whine that you're being treated badly by Sprint. Post about it on Sprint's forums.
I think that covers the basics. If you're new here, do us all a favor and read this post, follow what's inside it. If you're not new and are a chronic whiner, read this post, follow what's inside it. Just stop cluttering the forums and making it impossible to find any information in it at all.

What terms specifically? I'll add them to the OP.
Edit: Added the two you listed.
Nothing specifically, at this very moment but, I come across new ones all the time when reading different posts. If it's cool, I'll just keep posting them here as I come to them and, if you think they should be in the op you can add them there or, if not, maybe just reply back down in the thread.
BTW. I know that I can google most terms and find them, and I have no problem whatsoever doing that, it's just nice when someone coming here to learn can expedite the process a lil with the help of some of the seniors.

Not helpful. The point here is not to create a thread full of *****ing, but to create a SINGLE thread so that we don't have 15000000 posts of the same thing. So if you can't help, stfu.

[Q] Remove "cell standby" and camera files from CM 7.1 stable??

When I check my battery usage in CM 7.1 stable, "Cell standby" is listed. I've also noticed a Camera app and Phone app. How can I remove these items, to save space and power? Also, is there more to remove for the Camera than just the Camera app itself? (While keeping the Gallery intact)
Thanks!
This has been discussed so much it isn't funny. Removing them will do you nothing. No battery improvement at all. It might even have negative effects as some apps require these apps and services.

Thanks. Though I would be interested in finding out whether or not having or not having them truly affects battery life, and also, what apps are dependent on them.

No, you showed me that you're.. something I can't write here in pleasant company. If this is supposedly so, I want scientific evidence, as in establish 2 controls, one with the services, one without, run both through an identical test sequence, and report results.
Surely this is better than saying "It might cause issues"?

koopakid08 is right, this topic has been discussed ad nauseum. try using the search function before making new threads
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=95324108
is just a beginning. Enjoy your research
---------------edit--------------------------
also, the same search repeated in the dev forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=95324678
This one includes a script to remove cell standby(with 23 pages worth of commentary), which showed no battery increase for the people who tried it.
Seriously, use the search function. please? All I did was type in "cell standby" in the lovely little box in the top right that says "search this forum"
I have been reading these forums since I got my NC 24 hours ago, and am still digesting info on it. It will probably be several days until I have finished reading everything of note.
Do you *really* think I haven't already run a forum search on this topic? People yell about resurrecting old threads, and they yell to search. Of course I searched first, because I wanted an answer as quickly as possible. Idiot.
I'm done with this thread, because obviously people are fans of being idiotic. As soon as I can find the "delete thread" option, I'll use it, because people who have answered this thread obviously have no scientific evidence (not hearsay) to back up their assumptions.
Edit: Could not find a "delete thread" option, so I suppose unsubscribing from it will just have to do.

Wow... Chill. You have links to threads with the evidence you want. If they are not scientific enough for you do tests yourself. No one is stopping you. Calling people names isn't going to help anything.

Even removing these doesn't do any good for battery life, but still I have no problem removing some of default apks from cm7 and NC runs fine, that include camera/phone/sms/voice recorder/theme.

It will not effect battery life one bit. But it will give you extra memory. That's a benefit many overlook and forget. Bloatware on any android device..be it phone or tablet..should be removed. To remove...delete the apks in system/app and data/app with root explorer.

You are correct regarding battery life and and there IS a benefit of removing bloatware (if for nothing else than to unclog* your app drawer) but please, don't remove the apk's - just freeze them with TB or rename them. Some updates in Android look for the presence of all the apk's in a given ROM before allowing an update. At I know from my own experience this is true for Acer Iconia tabs.
* this is a scientific term meaning that if you are a klutz like me, freezing keeps me from inadvertent presses on an icon!

[Q] "Bloatware" on the KFHD 7"

Now that I've finally achieved root, was wondering if any of the pre-installed crud like OfficeSuite can/should be removed. Read in another thread that it might be safer to freeze them instead of remove them. Any apps that will take care of this? Which should I attempt to remove or do they take up enough space/resources to even bother with? Thanks for anyone's help.

Braves1995,
This is a great question, we will answer it to the best of our ability. We are in the middle of creating a new thread, the topic will be how to make the Kindle Fast and lightweight. This will include what to remove, what to keep and what to replace. This is a fairly involved topic, so the question is not very simple to answer.
To have a happy Kindle you need to:
1. Replace the Launcher
2. Replace the Browser
3. REMOVE several programs
4. Replace several programs
5. Disable OTA
6. Install Google Play Store
Disabling OTA alone shuts down 14 active processes. We will post this how to before the end of the Week. You see, as we said above, this is not a quick answer since we do not know what you use and what you do not use.
Give us until Friday at the latest.
Note: Out of the box much of what is in /data/app is Bloatware.
That's a great idea Chris. An all in one thread that consolidates all the progress into one post. Should be stickied.
So, any updates on this? Sorry, not trying to be pushy, just making sure I didn't miss a new thread somewhere.

[Q] some general q's that search did not help

totally stock no root etc.
Trying to find a couple things that frustrate me.
1. how to keep screen on when charging? it is not in the developer options (where most phones have it) so where is it?
2. how to arrange apps - I cannot see where you can arrange apps alphabetically. the random order is killing me trying to find stuff.
I have no idea how to do the first one (but would like to know as well). To arrange your apps alphabetically just go to the top of your app drawer and drag down. Then just click Custom and a drop down list will come down with Alphabetically being one of your choices.

With respect, when I read through the q/a forum, it appeared to be solely for questions about rooted devices, how to root, which ROM does what, etc. There were no general Q's about stock devices, hence I put my Q in the general section since it appeared it would apply to a more general audience.
My apologies.

1. You can use an app like Screebl. It works very well.
2. When you scroll all the way to the top of the app drawer and then scroll up some more for it to refresh it will give you a drop down menu that you can use to choose the sort order. Alphabetical is one of the options.

Can anyone POSSIBLY give any advice to me. Lost here..

I've had the note8 for about 3 months-ish. It's been great, only thing is I am getting SICK of having no control over which apps are doing what in background, (stock stuff spying/sending data home etc).
I was just pushed the oreo update from my carrier and it looks like its slightly slower now, guess this is all part of the planned obsolescence to get us to buy new phones.
The questions for the experts here :
-How difficult/dangerous is it to root note8 with knox, and have it come out successful?
-How do you possibly find a trustworthy rom that wont be loaded with viruses/rootkits
-Is there a gold standard guide out there for security on rooted note8's (how to setup firewalls/ iptables. with knox in the equation)
I dont want to overload this post with stuff when I'm the one holding my hat out here for advice. I've googled for weeks, can't seem to find any straight answer. No one seems to have any solid hands on experience with this (rooting/knox/security). I just know that the note8 with all the knox parts makes it different from any other phone ive had.
THANK YOU.
I suppose I should also mention that I am looking for something that will be the most secure/offer the most flexibility in maintaining privacy.
Ideally I would love something that just has a homescreen that shows all network data events/history. Probably doesnt exist, but thats my mindset about all this.
If you want security and the ability to stop stuff running in the background (slowing down your phone and using your battery), you don't want to root.
Just install one of these apps:
1. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pdp.singleplay
or
2. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kunkunsoft.packagedisabler
They allow you to disable apps you don't want or use (e.g. facebook). I use the first one. I know they are paid apps but they are worth the money.

Yea, I have heard of those. But I guess whenever I see a solution that involves me paying some person I dont know for them to put code on my phone, I always prefer to go the learn it myself route. Which is why I guess I am asking for some advice on rooting, I can handle doing it myself, I'm not entirely un-tech savvy. Just had a few general questions about rom/knox issues.
Also thank you!

It's pretty straightforward to root, just read through the root threads and make sure you're familiar with all the steps.
I have never downloaded a rom from here with viruses and rootkits. Look at user feedback and install a virus scanner on your phone if concerned. For official firmware, try SamFirm or Sammobile.
You can use apps like AFWall+ from the Play Store but root is required for it to work. I don't know what you mean by "with Knox in the equation" though. Knox is something else entirely.

It's something else entirely.

Yep, pretty familiar with finding roms/installing them (still weary of anything free, rootkits can be hidden anywhere these days). Only reason I specifically made a thread this time around is due to the knox security portion of the note8. I've heard it can complicate things when rooting note8, and I was unable to find much info from people on it (especially with recent version releases)
but thank you!

What model do you have? Rooting on Exynos with custom recovery will trip Knox counter and stop samsung pay/secure pass from working ever again. Most Snapdragon models have locked bootloaders though, and their root method doesn't affect Knox if I recall correctly (see SamFail thread though for that last one).

Do what you're happy doing.
Just one thing. Your logic is fatally flawed. You say you won't pay someone to provide a solution unless you have researched it first but you will however sacrifice security by rooting for free but you haven't researched it.
Your questions are all answered in this forum, you just need to use the search function. No need to create another 'how do I root and what are the advantages/disadvantages' thread.
Good luck.

Thanks for your reply, however practice makes perfect - can't get good at anything until you try.
As for searching this forum, maybe I should have been more specific when i said I googled. That meant I searched everywhere I knew of (including here) for any specific knox related rooting guides for the current note8 OS release. And since it just rolled out few days prior, I haven't found many first hand accounts/spoken to anyone who has attempted it. I will also add that i was hoping to hear some opinions about something that is specifically tailored to security/privacy. I guess I thought that was unique enough/not previously posted to warrant my own thread. But as you stated, perhaps my thinking is flawed.
Thank you!
The thing is, if you are so concerned about security issues, do not use ANY google related service/software, there you voluntarily give tons of pieces of info, but that includes amdroid itself, as it relies on google play services, as I see it, your best option for not having anything suspicious installed in your device is a plain feature phone, and a computer with the best protection you can buy/get

Yes, you couldn't be more right about that.
Unfortunately google and my work have not fully separated and probably wont anytime soon. Main reason i was wanting to root was to have some sort of control over my firewall/setup some iptables to limit the amount of trackers/bugs phoning home.
Rooting is the exact opposite to safety, that is why unbranded/generic/fake/etc are sold with root access out of the box, no restrictions whatsoever for anything

I'm not sure what you mean by "Knox-related rooting guides". That may be part of the confusion and why you can't find what you're looking for. You root the phone/OS, not Knox.

Yea, it is confusing I know. Apparently I have heard that the knox feature can cause issues , especially if you already updated .
Botched this thread pretty good lmao, everyone is totally lost. (me included)
meh, don worry about it. ill just let the thread hang, see if anyone can see what im trying to explain somewhat terribly

Well, I would somewhat agree with you there. But, I guess Im just sick of having no way to set my own firewall rules/ have control over my ports.
