Screen burn-in: software or hardware related? - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since some times I have serious burn-in problems. They occur in TWRP/CWM and every ROM.
I know of some apps trying to fix it but the burn-in is recreated every time. As the pic shows it's bad.
Does anyone has experienced the same, stumbled upon a fix for this and/or can tell me if it's hardware related.
Is it, for instance, possible that a faulty kernel can trigger this?
The only thing I can think of that maybe triggered this is the fact that it once (overnight) got very hot while making a nandroid backup.
Thanks for any input on this!

Um... correct me if I'm wrong - but your attached picture shows only a homogeneous green image...
The term "burn-in" describes a PERMANENT damage to the display caused by displaying the same image over a long time. You notice that kind of damage as a ghost image or shadow of the originally displayed content. You're sure that's what you've got? I'd be seriously impressed if any app can "fix" that...

Well...obvious when I take a screenshot it doesn't show the burn in correct?
Everything/ every app/image that stays on my screen for a while will leave a burn right now....Top bar/ip cam software etc. Will soon try to take photo of my screen with other camera to show this.

This topic can be closed...I ended up RMA-ing my device and I got a new S4A-device today! #problemsolved

[Q] for those of you with screen problems..

we're the problems present from day one? or did they take awhile to appear? if so, how long?
They were present since the day one, but you take a while to notice them, at the beginning you are just happy but after using it for a long time you start to see the various issues.
I don't think I have any real hardware screen problem (I hope), just that probably the Note screen display limited colors or the software is not able to correctly dither and/or display the colors correctly to prevent banding and such. Since I do see banding and incorrect reproduction of certain grey, but I took a screen shot and view in my own PC IPS monitor which shows the screenshot matched with what's shown in the Note screen, so I can only assume what I experience is software problem only.
I had 3 bad ones in a row...all had dead pixels on first boot

[Q] messed up colors, help :(

My stock Touchpad has a weird color problem. Anytime there is some shading/gradient type effect, red/green/blue hues appear. Solid colors seem fine but when I try to watch something like a movie...every person looks like Obama's HOPE poster. Even the normal grey backgrounds of the UI/Cards look like they are running in some 8bit mode or something.
HP live chat previously ASSURED me it is not a hardware problem but rather a software problem. I have done all the updates/factory reset/etc. Nothing has improved. Has anyone seen this type of problem? Is there a 8bit color switch somewhere? Thanks for reading/any help!
I attached a tiny low res pic of the problem. The problem is pretty obvious
Does it work correctly in WebOS? That would tell us if it is a cm problem or a hardware problem. Boot over to WebOS and try watching a movie. I haven't heard of this being a cm problem.

It doesn't even have CM on it. I'm actually wondering if I flash android on it...it'll get fixed. Will give it a try when I have more time but might just try to call warranty on it. My warranty has passed 1 year but hopefully my credit card company should cover it. I'm thinking I should try that first before wasting time on flashing.
Such a weird problem that has stopped me from using/enjoying my TP
Its hard to even tell what the problem is in your picture. But is your screen discolored in that one spot or is the whole screen discolored? I've never heard of a software issue causing that. And if it was a software issue, running the webOS doctor should have fixed it. So if its still under warranty, i'd go that route first.

The issue is the entire screen. The picture is supposed to be mainly dark grey/grey/white. The blue/green tints pretty much appear wherever there is slight color gradients. Its quite obvious on non-solid colored UI and skin. It looks like basically watching a person while on acid.
Anyone know if its possible to have a faulty GPU or something on it and still boot up? The TP does feel sluggish in other aspects as well...open up just a few cards and it becomes pretty damn sluggish. Doesn't even have to be a web browser card...something simple like calculator can sometimes cause problems...

If its your whole screen, it could be that your screen is messed up. If you have the warranty still, I'd see if you can get it replaced.

[Q] Strange discoloration on my screen

Dear note users,
Recently I encountered the second discoloration of colors on my screen, for example the center of the chrome icon and everything blue turns purple, this problem occurs in the entire os. I have also made a screenshot and after the phone magically restored the colors; it turned the screen off, because I wasn't using the phone and when I turned it back on the colors on the screen were back to normal; and the colors on the screenshot were also normal. So apparently the os sees the colors properly....
So what do you think is this a hardware failure (I am thinking it is), also if it is, does it fall under guarantee? And finally my screen is ok, for most of the time, but sometimes this error does occur. How can I possibly tell the guys of the Samsung service center something is wrong with the screen? I did take a phone with my point to shoot, but they could say it's photoshop or something and the photo is a bit blurry. Since I cannot force the phone into this situation I can't also make new photos....
I am using alliancerom v3 and speedmod k3, I also don't think the error was due to the rom and kernel, because both weren't developed when the previous discoloration occured....

Take a video
Try changing ROMs, full wiping etc...
R: [Q] Strange discoloration on my screen
I also had this issue, two times to be exact... I was worried that gpu was going to break. Do you have the gpu's voltages decreased?
Ps: I'm not saying it's a gpu problem (it's a simple thought) , so don't worry
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Same issue
I got the same problem too. i thought im the only one...I agree with hom.hom.. it the hardware problem, FYI warfareonly, i tried to change ROM, full wipe and everything...the problem still occurred..as what hom.hom said it hardware issue..
some picture taken from webcam..
Yeah, with me it looks just the same; I suppose the problem is that you can't reproduce this issue. So the Samsung repair center probably won't repair your phone. After your phone went to sleep or you reboot the issue disappeared for me. Is this the same case for you, and have you checked at a repair center of they fix this issue for you?

Htc one m7 screen or display problem (scratched or blurred) image problem

I have been noticing that this has been happening since i updated to 5.0.2.
I also noticed that nobody else has ever reported that they have this kind of problem. My problem is that wherever an image or a picture appear, the screen seem to blur or it becomes scratchy. When i open the camera app and try to take a picture, the same happens. This has to be a software issue in the phone. Or maybe a hardware issue. But what surprises me is that when i upload the picture i just took from my phone to facebook or anywhere else, other people can see it clearly without any scratches or blur. So it seems that the image is only seen blured in my phone. I guess it is a problem with mu display as the picture or image file seems perfect when others see from their phones. I have googled many places but nobody else has this problem. I would be very hally if anyome could fix this problem asap.
thank you.

Question Help diagnosing a issue

My S21 Ultra has been suffering a minor screen glitch mainly on the lockscreen but sometimes appearing in applications.
I thought it was a hardware issue but after a screen replacement it is still happening.
Hopefully some S21 Ultra owners can help me diagnose the issue.
How to reproduce the issue:-
Make sure dark mode is enabled
Make sure color pallet is enabled
Make sure QHD resolution is enabled
Make sure lock screen is stock live wallpaper
Now when phone is locked, press lock button on & off 10 times one after the other.
Do you see glitch lines across the time on lock screen?
Thanks in advance guys!
not sure what you mean, I don't see anything.
share the device model number and the software version it's on please.
also, i suggest you submit error report to samsung members app > get help > error report after reproducing the issue (would be best if you take video recording or a screenshot of the issue when submitting ticket).
Attached a video for better understanding of the issue.

Just my guess, so don't take my word for it since I might be wrong... but I'm guessing it's due to how the display powering on is programmed, which area is supposed to light up first and the animation of how the screen powers on is causing that 'glitch'.
I also don't think it's a hardware issue but rather something more software related that needs to be modified.
One other possibility is the charge buildup/flow within the hardware wirings that end-up resulting temporary spiking in LED lighting up to the area that lights up first. (again, I am very much speaking hypothetically. By no means am I an expert in this area)

Had Samsung take a look at it, phone passed software diagnostic after a reflash from themselves, then they done a full hardware replacement, motherboard, screen, battery, the whole phone basically, issue still persisted, they deemed it a OneUi 4 issue as the display phones on OneUi 3 didn't have the same issue, guess I'll just wait for a OTA.
