Hi all guys!
I've searched into the whole forum and Internet but I cannot find an answer to my question.
After the FeaMod Recovery installation I know I can return to stock recovery by installing a stock ROM. This is a great thing.
But what about restoring stock recovery without installing the whole ROM?!?! Is it possible?!
Sorry if my question has an answer in the forum yet... I really can't find it.
Thank u very much!!!
If you extract original recovery from a stock rom you can dd it to your device. Or you take the stock recovery.img and modify the flashable cwm zip by replacing cwm recovery.img with stock recovery.img and flash that with cwm.

Hi. First of all TY for ur reply.
Then for this I need some help 'cause I've read hundreds of guides and wikies but I'm not really a master!
1) Ur first tip seems a little dangerous! Anyway how can I extract the recovery from stock ROM with dd?! Has to be the phone rooted?! Or adb it's enough?!
2) Ur second tip seems to be better! But where I can take the stock recovery.img?
And then, after replacing it in the CWM zip I've to do something else before flashing zip from sdcard?!
Really thank you for your tips!
The attached file should reflash the stock XXKPU recovery to your 9001. Tested and works with FeaMod 1.4.
Hi wintel.
Thanks for your reply.
Only last question, I promise!!!
May I use the file u posted with every ROM I've installed or it has to be used only with XXKPU ROM?!?!
Sorry, but I quiet new with Galaxy world!!!

the stock recovery is the same and should be ok for all roms.
this issue was already discussed in I9001 Q&A thread and in the Feamod thread, wintel made it easy for u and gave u a flashable zip,u could replace the recovery.img also through adb or terminal emulator with dd code.(assuming the recovery.img is in the root of internal sd). (keep this code somewhere in case u need it another time)
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p13
reboot
odin
just flash a stock rom

I met a problem which I can not get out my phone SGS i9001. I tried to do an upgrade to v4 android. when he stayed on the phone for almost an hour with the CyanogenMod logo and not do anything. Now when I turn my phone straight into recovery mode. and down the screen I write this: CMW-based Recovery v5.5.0.4 and E: can t mount / cache / recovery / command.
E: can t mount / eMMC. I mention that I can put it in download mode. but every time I tried to do something with odin I failed. please and hope you can help me. Thanks in advance.sorry for my English
Hi guys,
I am getting an error as you were getting when trying to install a custom ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S.
I am currently running on stock Gingerbread 2.3.3.
Baseband version : I9000DDJV5
Kernel Version: [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.DDJV9
I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick and installed ROM Manager on it. Then, I flashed ClockworkMod recovery using it. Now, I am trying to flash Cyanogenmod 7.2 on my device and have downloaded it and kept it in the root directory of the SDcard. Now, whether I go to recovery mode manually or using ROM Manager, I am getting the error as below:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (Invalid Argument)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Also, I get only four options in the recovery mode, viz, reboot, apply update from SDcard, wipe data, wipe cache partition.
I get the same error when I try to Backup my current ROM using ROM Manager.
I searched through threads and found that some people have had similar errors but there is no solution I could find which worked for me.
I have tried clearing my download cache. Also, the download is not corrupt as I am getting the same error when trying to create a back up..
Is there any way I can correct this? Or is there any other work around for flashing like using Odin? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, I can get into download mode..but how to proceed after that?
I am currently running on my stock rom JV9.. so, you mean to say that I should first upgrade to JVU using download mode and then proceed to upgrading it further?
Can you please also tell how to upgrade to JVU using download mode?
Thanks
SIMPLE WAY TO ROOT AND FLASH LATEST ICS
1. Flash by Odin (download Odin) Semaphore 1.2.0 kernel (as PDA, UNtick repartition, UNtick reboot).
2. Take out battery.
3. Go into recovery (vol up + home + power, release power after few secs)
4. In recovery mount internal SD (sdcard) and plug phone to PC. Delete all files from internal SD (if you don't have any important files). Copy latest CM9 and gapps to internal SD. Unmount internal SD.
5. In "mounts" menu use every (excluding internal and external SD card!!!) "format" option.
6. Go to flash ZIP menu and choose CM9 ZIP, then gapps.
7. Turn off recovery (phone).
8. Turn on phone and wait to boot.
Hope I helped.
Re:
Hi,
Problem here is that you didn't flash ClockworkMod recovery. If you only have four options it means you just have Recovery 3e - which is stock on most devices sold with GingerBread. I assume you are new to this so ClockworkMod recovery might be a little tricky to use.
I suggest you go to http://www.darkyrom.com/index.php?threads/darkyrom-v11-0-black-edition-android-4-0-4-ics.7941/ and follow the guide there.
I'm not saying that Darky has the best ROM there is but it does have a nice complete guide for flashing from stock.
Good luck

Hey.. I had flashed ClockworkMod Recovery using ROM Manager..It is also showing that my current recovery is : ClockworkMode 2.5.1.2
But you are right that when I boot into recovery mode, it shows Android System Recovery <3e> written at the top and gives only four options..
I went to the DarkyRom guide you mentioned..Here is the written guide
1-If you're coming from a Froyo (Android 2.2) or Gingerbread (2.3) ROM, follow these steps;
Have your phone rooted with CWM
Make a NANDROID backup & Titanium backup & backup anything you need or find important on a PC
Now, I don't understant what does the first step means exactly? How to go about rooting with CWM and make a NANDROID backup without ROM Manager?
Please help..Thanks
For an update..I found a guide to flash leaked version of 2.3.6 XWJW1 using Odin.. and I have been able to apply that successfully on my phone..I have rooted my phone again using Odin this time.. But now too, if I am trying to backup using ROM Manager, it is giving me the same error.. Is there a way or a guide that tells how to upgrade to cyanogenmod 9 or 7.2 using Odin..instead of doing it through the recovery mode..?
No. CM7 or CM9 you can only flash from custom recovery (CWM).
And one important thing: do NOT use ROM Manager, don't ask why
Just use my tutorial. But be aware that you have to delete anything from phone.

The semaphore you have is for ics.
Only ICS roms will do such as cm9.
CM7 is Gingerbread.
No service, Baseband unknown
The no service problem is still not gone.. I tried installing a modem but it has not helped.. I checked my phone details and found that it is showing baseband version as unknown. I have rolled back to 2.3.6 now but still it is not in service and not showing any baseband either.. Please advice what should I do!! Thanks for the help
You probably have damaged IMEI. If your IMEI in phone status starts with 000... you have damaged IMEI. Now you have to flash stock ROM by Odin with repartition (or 1st with Clear EFS option, 2nd without this option), backup EFS (Google!), use my guide again, and after that restore EFS.
After restarting phone, you'll get right IMEI and you should have network signal.
Hope I helped.
BTW, there's no explanation for damaging IMEI.
Hi, sorry if i'm not posting in the correct section it's just that i can't find a section for the galaxy ace gt-5839i so this was the closest thing. The other day i rooted the gt-5839i and then decided i would be an idiot and atempted to install cwm4 and now the phone is stuck on the screen that displays the model number. I can boot into recovery but doing a data reset/wipe or wiping the cache or trying to install a new rom is not working at all, all it says is E:failed to mount /system (Invalid argument) so i'm guessing i probably need to reflash an appropriate stock recovery (2.3.6) to fix this it's just that i can't find one and don't know which i should try if anyone could help me out on this one i would be extremely greatful as at the moment the phone useless, thanks.
first, download your stock firmware from samfirmware.com
then download odin, and learn how to use that

When i flash the stock rom using odin, the stock recovery works. but then, when i update the CWM to any version, the recovery stops working.
It stops on the samsung galaxy ace screen which is the 2nd screen, with a small yellow dot on top left. i am not able to flash any rom. i have even tried using d CWM app, but it stops at d same screen.
pls help.
Note: the download mode and the stock rom works perfectly.

This problem is caused by updating recovery to 6.0 by Shaan.
Noticed that this problem is not just for me. It's widespread now. Next try would be to flash recovery gamma tar from odin.

Flashing through odin deletes every single file on your phone. So there is no chance that CWM 6 causes this. Also i don't think the problem is widespread!
If you can get me a logcat and dmesg i might be able to help..

Sorry if my post ever offended you. It's just because the whole issue started after flashing cwm6. Im glad you are happy to help. During which process do i need to get a logcat? While booting into recovery?(haven't tried getting a logcat of a boot process before)
Yes. Flash the recovery. Boot to recovery and grab a logcat as well as a dmesg.
Pastebin both. And don't worry. I don't get offended easily!

Its not possible to delete files directly inside a .tar file.
i have to extract the recovery.img and then change it to .tar file.
i flashed that file using odin but it stopped suddenly giving me a yellow triangle error because of which i had to reflash again.
now i have the stock recovery working again.
I am facing a similar issue. Please do post your solution here if anything at all works
That wasn't the right way to do it. Download total commander and then remove other files from stock rom.tar file WITHOUT EXTRACTING. Did u renamed the recovery.img to recovery.tar and then flashed as one file in Odin???
Another way is to push recovery.img through adb.

Could you please elaborate the problem you face and how it all started in the first place?
Since we were facing constant reboot into recovery problem, we flashed stock Rom entirely through Odin to get back stock recovery. However flashing any version of cwm would make the problem resurface. The only cwm recovery that works is cwm6 by shaan. Confused why??

Since the CWM 6 by shaan is working, i tried to install a zip through it. the zip was successfully.
but on switching on the phone, it gets stuck on cynogenmod screen(not the samsung screen)
The reason is that i cannot wipe data/cache.
on doing a factory reset, the log is something like:
Error mounting /data!
Skipping format...
Error mounting /cache!
Skipping format...
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs fa(the next thing is out of the screen) ...block/mmcblk0p2
formatting /sdcard/ .android_secure (something-something)
Data wipe complete
So this means that there is some problem with the cache, data mounting..
I also tried to mount cache and data using mounts and storage but it shows cannot mount cache and data respectively.
P.S.: Every time i get into recovery or flash something an error like this comes at the bottom:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log...(can't see the next part)
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log...(can't see the next part)
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/las...(can't see the next part)
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/las...(can't see the next part)
So there is some recovery file in the /cache folder which is causing some problem
(recovery working is a progress. thanks adityabhagat95.)

Flashing a STOCK Rom from Odin must not cause a bootloop. Reflash the stock Rom from recovery (again )and then reboot into STOCK recovery to wipe data ( factory reset or whatever its addressed as).
Yes I can reboot into recovery, but I dont think the problem is solved or else the other recoveries would also work (its just a progress)
I tried to format data, cache, system but all of them failed as it was unable to "mount" the respective folders.
I did not try d format sd-ext, as I thought it was not required...
There is surely some problem with d cache, data or system files...

Dear Community, greetings.
I have a problem as wrote in the title: I can't boot into cwm recovery. I am gonna try to summarize the main points that lead me here.
Assumption
I used to install custom ROMS flawlessy, following always the instruction etc...
Last rom I've installed was CM7.2 Apocalypse, Project Silk and Link2SD
I needed to restore stock rom
I searched with Google and came across the following solutions
I searched on XDA and came across the following solutions
What I have done...
I flashed using odin 4.38 -> GB 2.3.6 2012 October 2.3.6 S5830XWKTS S5830ITVKT2 downloaded from sammobile.com
I rooted the phone with upd_1.zip (that is attached to this thread)
I tried to install recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix.zip
...and trying to boot into recovery pushing POWER BT + HOME BT the phone stucks on the screen with "Galaxy GT-S5830" and the top-left corner was green
What I have done #2
I tried to use S5830XXKA6 but I dind't neither managed to boot properly (wiped data/factory and cache)
Tried to flash CWM directly with Odin using "One Package"
Could you kindly help me out?:fingers-crossed: I am also willing to give you further information as you ask.
Thanks everyone for your time.:good:
F.
---- PARTIAL FIX by myself ----
1. Format the sdcard in linux with GParted (you need to install android-tools-adb, android-tools-fastboot)
2. Flashed stock firmware S5830XWKTS S5830ITVKT2 with ODIN Multidownloader 4.38 (downloadeble from www.sammobile.com under ITALY)
3. Rooted with upd_1.apk and updated with Superuser 3.0 (attached)
4. Installed CWM 6.0.1.4
5. Restore an old backup of mine.
6. Rejoice

First of all, thank you very much for the reply. Then, the answer is yes and no. I flashed several firmwares. Some of them did work, others don't. Right now I managed to use the one I've mentioned before and
S5830XWKT7_S5830ITVKT1_ITV
S5830XWKP6_XWKPN
but trying S5830_XXKA6 it goes in bootloop also wiping data and cache.
Further information:
I noticed a problem with CSC. While booting in standard recovery an error message appeared saying something like "can't open /system/csc/XEU/system", so I've created the whole directory path and put the files that were in /system/csc inside. This issue is fixed. I am going to investigate and let you know if with other firmware I listed above I get the same behaviour.

Ok some little news:
I managed to flash CWM 6.0.1.8, tried to restore some of my old nand backup (also having mismatch and tricking it emptying the nandroid.md5) but had problems with linked partition sd-ext.
Obtained this error
make_extf4fs /block/mmcblk0p2

So tried to wipe/format, but after it stuck on boot.
Still waiting for the cwm 5.0.2.4. Can someone post it?
Thanks
So, thanks for your help . I managed to solve it by myself.
And here's how:
3. Rooted with upd_1.apk (attached)
4. Installed CWM 6.0.1.5
5. Restore an old backup of mine.
6. Rejoice

Try flashing this:
CWM 5.0.2.6. FIX
When your system reboot, wait until Android boot again, install TERMINAL EMULATOR's app and type this commands:
Code:
su
reboot recovery
After you've done it, your device'll reboot into recovery mode automatically
