What does it mean on GDX x device?
Most of the times I see green signal strength in the wifi icon but this morning I noticed that after trying to establish connection it went white. At that moment I could not surf anywhere.
This afternoon I wiped my device and on setting up I saw that white signal once again but I had no trouble connection this time. After a while it went green again.
What's the colour code telling us?
As far as I know the icon becomes green when your google account is being synced with google servers.
Hey guys/gals -
I got my Moto-X a few weeks ago, and have been using it without issue on AT&T. Unfortunately, I'm just wrapping up my first trip through Europe with this phone (left my iPhone 5 at home), and I've noticed a very odd thing over the last week.
For some reason, my phone will not re-establish a cellular data connection once it has connected to WiFi (and subsequently disconnected from WiFi). I have noticed this - consistently - in both Germany and Italy. In all cases, once WiFi is no longer connected, I can see that the cellular data network is available (the 4G or E logo shows up, grayed out, next to the cell bars) but it will not reestablish. The only way to obtain a cellular data connection is to restart the phone.
I've tried going into airplane mode; I've tried cycling cellular data. Nothing I can think to try causes the cellular network icon ("4G" or "E") to cycle from gray to white...I simply cannot get back online without a full restart. But once I've restarted it works fine - so long as I don't jump on WiFi.
The phone isn't unlocked; it's an AT&T device, with no APN tweaks.
Anyone have any idea what could cause this behavior? Unfortunately, it's going to be another four or five weeks before I'm back here to test any ideas...but I figured I'd reach out while the issue is fresh.
Cheers.
Just to chime in, I've also seen this issue on mine, but it only happens with certain WiFi access points. After using the Cisco ones at work the problem occurs, but my Asus N66U doesn't seem to upset it.
When I enter my home, my Moto X 2014 automatically connects to my Wifi. However the wifi connection then is marked with an exclamation mark, no internet access is possible. After rebooting the Moto X the wifi connection works fine. I am running Android 5.0. Is this a known problem? Any hints on this? Thanks!
It's a known lollipop bug as far as I know.
I have a similar problem, when I come home I also have an exclamation mark on the WiFi symbol but still have connection to the Internet, but can't connect to my chromecast.
The fastest solution for me is deleting my rooter, and reconnecting. (It's faster then rebooting.)
A bug similar to this one happens to me at work, where we need to authenticate to the wifi network once per day, via browser. I get to work, the wifi icon shows at the status bar with the exclamation mark next to it, and the authentication page doesn't open in the browser until I go to settings and forget the connection, then connect to it again, when I open the browser after that the authentication page opens normally.
I'm having a really strange problem on my Moto G 2nd Gen. (2014, Dual SIM, XT1068) with Lollipop 5.0.2.
When the phone hasn't been used for a while (approx. 30 minutes) I can't receive calls anymore. Every call goes straight to mailbox. When I press the power button there are exclamation marks beside the WiFi and both networks. A few seconds after "wakeup" everything is OK, WiFi and networks are working, full bars on everything.
For me it seems that the phone goes into some "extremely deep" sleep that it turns off all antennas (even though the battery is full!).
Did anybody experience something similar?
I mean what is the purpose of a mobile phone if I can't receive calls anymore??? This is sooo frustrating.

Are you using Stock or a Custom Rom? 4.4.4 or 5.0.2?

I'm using stock 5.0.2, but it's rooted (for the Sixaxis controller).
It would appear that your phone is entering in airplane mode automatically.
My suggestion, do a factory reset and test. That's what I would do.
You can check the battery stats to see if in fact all radios get turned off after 30 minutes of no use.

Hi,
nope, not airplane mode (the little airplane should be there in the notification bar, but it isn't).
Meanwhile I read up on the exclamation mark and (this was new information for me) it seems, that Lollipop puts an exclamation mark on the networks if I have data disabled (which is true) and there is no WiFi connection.
So, basically I misinterpreted the symbols. Now a rant follows: who the f*** thought that it is a good idea to put up an exclamation mark on the NETWORK meter when there is no data connection? Searching on Google this confused many people and left them scared thinking, that they have no network. Instead I see this just as a scare tactic to have people constantly online so every move they make can be followed. Sounds paranoid? Why yes, it is!

Its on the network meter because your data connection and your phone network connection are one and the same thing. Your data comes in from your network. They have always been the same icon on any android phone you have ever owned. the little flashing up and down arrows on your network meter means there is data currently being transferred, the little E 3G or H symbols on it tells you what speed of network you are connected to. The only difference is that now they have added a new symbol telling that you have no data connection. I don't see what the problem is here? If you weren't able to receive calls and your cell radio was switched off your network meter would have been empty, not full with an exclamation.
And by the way, they don't need you to have your data enabled to track you, they can do that with cell tower triangulation even if your phone is off

My problem is mainly with the exclamation mark, used as a symbol = it usually means something bad or that something is wrong. Turned off data is not bad or not wrong. It's simply off.
Android < 5 did it much better in my opinion. If data was not enabled it was simply off. No up/down arrows, no E, 3G, H or H+ ... and most of all: no exclamation mark to "scare" you into thinking that there is something wrong with your network. (I usually have data off on my Moto G, because my company pays for my mobile data on my Galaxy S4).

OK, I see where you are coming from, but I disagree. The very definition of an exclamation mark is to draw attention to something, whether it be good or bad. Smartphone functionality for the most part relies on some form of internet access, so if you have no internet access on the phone many of the device functions will not work. This is something that should probably be drawn attention to. I find the feature useful actually. Sometimes I turn my data off and forget to turn it back on when I need it and at least with the exclamation I can see straight away that it is off.
Has anyone been having Wi-Fi problems with their phone as I always get an exclamation mark on the Wi-Fi icon but other devices to my Wi-Fi is perfectly fine. Any idea if it's related to the new firmware?
That happens when I connect to a WiFi network but the exclamation marks disappears after a couple of seconds. Does this happen with other WiFi networks other than your own?
I have this issue ever since oreo. Worked fine on 7.0 but I get this exclamation mark when it's been connected for a while.
Strange, if I go back to 7.0 it's fine so definitely a software issue

I had exactly the same problem. Even without the exclamation mark my wifi were super slow
Solution
Change the security of your modem, if is "AES" or "TPIK" change to accept both, "TPIK/AES" and that's it.
Hope it helps
