Hi guys,
I've recently purchased a Lumia 635 from Vodafone (UK) as I was interested on giving the WP platform a try.
I've been using Android since the HTC Magic was released, and I'm fairly competent at rooting and flashing devices on that OS.
I've got a few teething problems with my 635 which are mostly app related, but my main gripe is that I can't seem to change the default search provider to Google in Internet Explorer.
I've had a look on the web, and it appears on some devices that going to 'settings' > 'advanced settings' has an option to change from Bing to Google.
I don't have that option, and was wondering if it was due to carrier restrictions? The phone is branded with a Vodafone splash screen, and I've had experience with them making OS level changes on other android devices.
TL/DR:
Basically, I was wondering if flashing a stock (non-branded) firmware would restore the option to change the search provider in IE, or is the restriction implemented across all versions of the OS now?
I can confirm that my German unlocked device has this option.

Maybe flashing could help? Maybe someone with more experience than me can help. I'm quite new to windows phone. ? sorry.

Change from Bing to Google
Hello,
To make default search provider Google, you should go to settings->region and Country/Region option change to Uzbekistan. I have done this trick with both WP8.1 Lumia 925 and 928.

hi,
can someone please clarify for me as to which of these HTC models have in-built GPS ?
my web searches (at Gsmarena.com & Pdadb.net)
indicate that the S730 does have GPS chip, but that the Atmos/Wings does not,
yet many adverts on ebay etc state HTC S730 aka Atmos !
thanks,
Kevin
hi,
just bumping this as I'm surprised that in over 90 viewings,
no-one has been able to offer a quick answer.
kevin
some apps recognize a gps integrated
but it DOES NOT WORK (on my wings)
there are some oldie threads about the gps and the possibility to activate it.. search for them...
FYI
wings, as the HTC specs says do not have GPS (only eralyer promo model have it)
specifications on HTC page
Comparison Table [4] | SoftBank X03HT | O2 XDA Atmos | HTC S730 US | HTC S730 on PDADB
many thanks for that - I will avoid s730 models then ....
I actually had tried to search the 'wings' forum on the phrase 'GPS'
and, believe it or not, get no hits ! .... even though my own posting includes it.
regards,
Kevin

Ccwav, please, if you're going to do your ROM in English, as a tester of it I suggest the following changes by priority:
1. Bluetooth Manager
2. The folder with the Tweaks of Menu etc... I somehow changed some options and my home screen is not the same, is kinda ugly now
Thnx in advance.
Hello everyone,
a while ago carrier IQ was detected as a huge privacy problem in lots of Android distributions. Thanks to many developers there are methods to detect it quite easily.
checks with e.g. the voodoo carrier IQ detector say that the Samsung Galaxy Note isn't affected.
However as I detected with the "Androids secret" app (currently on the front page of XDA), there are classes on the device suggesting that carrier IQ is on the Note.
So is the software just not active or is it active and the detector apps are just not able to detect them? Attached is a screenshot of the app "Android secrets" showing the presence of carrier IQ classes on the SGN.

Does anyone know more about this?
bump for good question. where did you source your note?
I should add: it's stock ROM LB1 DBT, no carrier restriction.
Depending on the model it may or may not have the OTA installed. It might have the firmware installed at the chip level just not the OTA agent, so it doesn't show up wit the detectors. Of course the carrier could simply push an update to install the OTA at any time. They could also remove an agent as well like Sprint did. Great PR move on their part, but putting the agent back is just as easy.
@sanchanim: Thanks for your reply.
Since this is an original Stock ROM without any carrier restriction it is Samsung who put Carrier IQ onto the device. The question is: Is the software just a relict of old times or is it indeed active?
If that's the case, a lot of people are affected (again)..
Hi I bought the s20 Fe(SM-G781U1) from the United States through a friend as I wanted the Snapdragon variant of the phone. I currently reside in India and I'm having network issues with my local sim provider not to mention the lack of call recording features the Indian s20 fe enjoys. Recently samsung has launched 5G Snapdragon varaint in India as well. I was hoping get some guidance and help from the forum on how to switch the ROM to the Indian Snapdragon variant. Thank you!
You can't flash a different ROM on your phone. Get rooted with Magisk, install edxposed, there's modules that can enable call recording features. Info is out there in the forums here. Use search.
he bought an American version of the phone so (currently) he'd need to pay someone running a bootloader unlock service before he could root it.
it might be worth contacting Samsung about your problem if you can prove the sale with a receipt. they might take mercy on you and arrange for it to be flashed to Indian firmware, no guarantees but worth trying. find out from your network which frequencies you need with them. I've never tried it but back in the day there was some method thru which you could activate frequencies

copied from Quora "you can try *#*#4636#*#* dial this and go to phone settings(phone info or 1st option ) then select on three dot at right upper corner there you will find find radio frequency option select on it and choose any.may be it work because smartphone itself decide better frequency you can choose it"
Hello there! New to this forum! So, here's the thing - I live in Europe, Poland, and about 2 or so years ago, I have bought a P30 Pro phone from one of our local stores - I highly doubt that it is a Chinese version of the device, but I might be wrong. Either way, I have recently installed Google Contacts app from Play Store, as I have wanted to make it a default on my device - I am wanting to use it with cooperation with the official People app from Microsoft on my Windows 10 PC, so that I can easily message my family or friends from my computer - But since to do that I would need to have Google's app manage my contacts, rather than the preinstalled dialer on my phone, I decided I would be willing to adapt and change my habits over to the new app. All would be nice and easy, if my phone actually detected Google's app I have installed and let me change it to default contacts app in settings, which it doesn't. Any idea why that might be happening?

Thank you, that worked. I was kinda surprised that it needed to be the Google's dialer app but glad it worked.
UPDATE: looks like this android should have Google services and i just needed to update.
I made the mistake to buy a Huawei not knowing the Google services have been removed (totally my fault). I was a gift for my mom and now I am trying to figure out a fast way to be able to install some services like whats app and messenger (which she uses often).
I had a look online and everything is a little complicated (i can get my head around it if i spend some time on it i am a little technical just not in the mobile field).
The reason for this post is i need to help to determine the best way to achieve my goal (have some apps such as whats app):
1. Do i install apps that will allow me to add google services in the current device&software?
2. Do i remove everything and install a new ROM?
3. Do i take it to a professional? (Not sure if there is such a service and its costs, i am in UK)
4. Sell it? not sure anyone would want a Huawei and not sure if this being a prototype has a higher or lower value
Huawei P20 Pro Twilight CLT-AL00 8.1.0.123(C00) (i guess is worth noting that this seems to be a prototype version and in the back where the Huawei logo is supposed to be it says "Shirley", the guy who worked for Huawei). It also has 6 dots which seem like sensors down right corner which i cant seem to see on images of this device.
Any help is much appreciated!
Thank you
