So I'm on the latest software on my LG G Flex d959. (d95920s), and i want to put a custom recovery on it with Freedom Flex, but I'm scared. I was able to root using brute force on Stump Root, but i want a custom recovery. Just 2 days ago i was messing around with stock APK's in my phone, attempting to make my phone look like a G3, and i ended up getting in a bootloop. Im guessing i didnt have the permissions set right on one of the APK's i had put in my system/priv-app. Luckily i was still under warranty and was able to get it replaced. Anyways, Will Freedom Flex work on the d95920s? I want to put CWM on it and manually install DFUSE's stock rooted KK from the recovery.
Hopefully i can get some help with this!

Yeah it does and you could have fixed that boot looped flex pretty easily. Always remember rule number one.
1. Always make a backup before modding, flashing, changing, or installing anything you need root access to do.

New Revo won't work with A I O, can't stand the bloat someone tell me please. Is anyone working on a root for this POS update.
oh im sure
im sure MT is on the job, but im sure a lil donatin to him would motivate him a lil.... but yeah anyway the thread "keep root through zv8" or whatever is still the only way that the general public knows about... but im sure u already knew that.
I figured as much about MT, (your the man) but i ask because my old revo worked fine with his AIO and maintain root method, but the new one i got that came pre-loaded with Zv8 wont, even after flashing several times back to zv7 and so on.
If you're readin this MT i am to poor to donate money but im willing to be a guinea pig. lol

There is something you aren't doing right even if on ZV8.. You can downgrade to ZV7, then Root only with the original AIO, then create the local.prop file then download the update, then use the 2nd AIO to maintain root, install CWM, then Broken Out.
I'm inclined to believe you because aio worked the first time but then zv8 would fail to regain root and install cwm it would say failed to find path, then flashing back with .tot to zv7 and even doin a factory reset back to stock and trying again now aio won't even root zv7 it just says failed to find path and runs through real quick, if you have any suggestions I would appreciate them.
And by the first time I mean I flashed back to zv7 rooted, flashed maintain root then ota updated then zv8 aio would fail
I have tried many processes over and over again and can recall once the first all in one wouldn't root my phone. I just did a factory reset then after reboot ran the lg-setup then flashed the v7.tot again then was able to root only after that reboot.
If that doesn't work, I don't know what will but good luck
Yah tried that, no luck, well see what mt comes up with. This is a new recertified phone and it has some wierd usb issues, everytime I reflash I have to reboot to be able to use change usb connection, plus now when flash tots I dont lose phone settings like I used to,
i have money!!!!

Money is something I have, root, I do not. It sounds like MT is the man when it comes to rooting. I would be glad to make a sizeable donation thru pay pal if I knew it would go directly to helping me game root access for my lg revolution running zv8.
See I would do the downgrading option everyone is talking about but those methods are only for pc ( I mean those download files ). I run a mac.
But seriously, I would love to have root. I used to use an iphone and was always jailbreaking. I love having that type of access so any help would be awesome!!

That means nothing. I flash TOT's all the time and never loose settings or apps.
As for MT developing a root process for this phone, while I appreciate all the work he has put into this phone and his skill set, what he does and what root exploiters do are two entirely different things. MT is just gracious enough to create easy to use AIO scripts for everyone to use. I do not see a new root process coming unless another exploit is found and works on this phone.
If I am incorrect about this then MT can feel free to correct me.

+1 For root all I have found is the exploit for keeping root through the update. As for writing a fresh exploit, there are a couple of guys that specialize in it. Jcase and djrbliss are 2 of the best around. The only problem I see is that zv8 has 0 access to the data partition without root, and so what other partitions are blocked. That is why the spectrum version does not work right off of the bat.

nevermind, just had to push cwm through adb still don't know why aio zv8 failed oh well im good now, and mt thanks for debloating and debingin. lovin broken out
Well I THINK I have found WHY I cant OTA ZV8
OK. I have found somthing interesting. I have 2 Revos. BOTH are now in test mode for reasons I am to embarrased to go into. (dang Noob screwups)
ANYWAY I was playing around in LGNPST last night and discovered the Warranty Date (assuming Expiration) on one phone was 4/4/12 Ironicly the same day I unbricked it using the Phonebook emergency recovery. (what puts the the phone in test mode. )
BOTH phones are flagged in my Verizon account (VZW online) as NON VZW Phones. (even though they originally were)
I am starting to think that when you do an emergency recovery you flag not only test mode but the warranty date & some Verizon flag as well. So while the phone is functional ALL Verizon support goes Bye Bye (I.E. OTA updates) EVEN if you flash back to Stock. I know that none of my old Not so smart phones will update past the Warranty date, I suspect this might be somthing similar.
Can anyone VERIFY this? I can SEE the potential problem but my skills stop there. (for now.) Can anyone tell me how I might be able to dig deeper?
I'd be happy with a rooted ZV8, let alone broken out, at this time.
I dont think anyone has figured a way around test mode yet except flashing back to zv4.
If it doesn't boot after flashing .tot:
1. Pull Battery and replace
2. push power and down until you get option to wipe
3. press power to confirm and reboot.
you will be stuck in zv4 and any flashing forward after that will put you back in test mode but at least you will be able to use your phone like normal until someone figures this out, but from what I read it appears improbable.
Yeah not looking good. Test mode I can live with it's the other issues thats killing me.

If you downgrade to Zv7 so you can root install cwm and eventually get to rooted Zv8 you will not lose anything on your phone if you do it correctly.
Just Flash the Zv7 Tot and use mt's AIO method, (stopping short of broken out)
if done correctly you will lose nothing.

Finally got a new phone and after a couple of years of flashing ROMs on my previous one, and I'm lost. Got too used to rooted ROMs!
In the near future, will there be any easier way to root 4.4? I have a T-Mobile Moto X and I know there are other ways at the moment to gain root, but I don't know if it's worth the risk of messing up my phone right now. I don't want to revert back to stock as I hear it is a pain.. (or is it) and I actually love me some Kitkat 4.4, but I'm stumped because I miss many rooted apps that I use to use on my old phone.
What do you guys think? Worth waiting it out? Or is this sort of thing far fetched at this point?

Seeing as though the T-Mo version can be unlocked, just unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery, and flash SU from recovery and you're rooted. Aside from one-clicks, it doesn't get much easier than that.

So I have an LG G Flex on 4.2.2. I rooted it a couple days ago, and everything was working perfectly. I got the "can't establish reliable connection" error on my phone, so I went in and put the "#" next to the second IP Address, fixed it. But then I saw the KitKat had finally come to the T-Mobile G Flex, so I wanted to remove the root. I used Kingo Android Root and it went through the unrooting process and failed, I was very confused because my root checker said I didn't have my root anymore. But I started to get the connection error again. I read that I should just restore my phone, it was around 4AM and I was tired so I just decided to do it. So I have nothing on my phone anymore, I thought it would've fixed it. But when I was setting up my Google account again, it said, like before, that it couldn't establish a stable connection. I tried to download ES File Explorer via the Chrome Browser, but it said I already had it on my phone. So I just had to download the .apk from a website. I tried to delete the "#" that I put, save it, then re type it, and see if it worked, but it wouldn't even let me save the file the first time. So now I'm kind of at a loss. Can anyone help me out?

I am holding off on rooting the phone until TOT or KDZ is available. I am not too worried about the rooting process causing problems. It's more a concern that I will not be able to keep myself from messing around with the system files and get into a phone not booting or boot loop situation with no custom recovery, nandroid backup or restore file to recover with.
Damn, I wish I never followed the directions for rooting the G4. Now I know there are no backup files in case of problems.... Great

Nope, and it seems like a lot of people are having boot loops with this phone. We'll just have to wait.
Sprint G4 here (LS991)
I rooted my phone successfully, but being that this is my first LG phone I stupidly uninstalled key apps that brings up the "Security Error" boot loop.
Been looking for a KDZ or TOT file, anything that would help me restore my phone back to stock. Looks like Verizon and TMobile have their stock firmwares out already, but Sprint is always the last to get any significant software.
I have been (and will continue) to follow hyelton's page with the released KDZ files : http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/guide-lg-g4-stock-firmware-to-stock-kdz-t3107848
I will follow up as soon as Sprint's KDZ/TOT file is released.
If there is anything I could do to help the devs get this through, I would gladly help. I just want my G4 back

Welcome to the bootloop ship, its just a waiting game at this point. But as soon as someone has it, it will be posted ASAP!
1. Did you guys not follow the directions when rooting to create a backup of the initial, non-rooted system.img?
2. What about re-flashing the rooted system.img?
Assuming you can reflash either original or rooted system.img, would booting into factory recovery and doing a factory reset work?

Pardon my ignorance, but it looks like there is a .kdz file for the G4. Will that not work? I honestly have no clue how .kdz or .tot files work, but I trying to figure out the difference.
Somehow messed up my phone using google cardboard of all things... well at least that is what I was using when it rebooted and went into a boot loop. I rooted it days ago and the phone has rebooted since I did it with no problems. I have not done anything with root yet on the phone but for some reason cardboard sent it into a boot loop. I tried reflashing the rooted system image but that didn't work. My phone is now pretty much bricked. There is no tot file and it is impossible to transfer a file onto the phone or sd card(can't mount sdcard) to try another system image.
This is a disaster for me as I bought this through best buy. I'm hoping I can get LG to re-flash the phone and give me the same exact phone back. Why? The plan I signed was for a leased phone. I worry that if I use the warranty and get a new imei number phone that I will void my lease and I have to purchase the broken phone out-right. But I guess if I get another phone I would just be where I would be 2 years down the road anyways.
Only problem is I was double stupid and did the wireless charging mod so I now wonder if LG would even look at the phone let alone getting warranty to replace it.... however, the warranty place probably wouldn't even notice the sticker was changed.
So I have no clue what route to take. On top of all this since I am on this stupid Best Buy plan I can't re-activate my old phone. Only Best Buy can do that. Now I am phone-less to boot. I wonder if Best Buy will even activate the old phone for me.... I guess I will find out tomorrow. If not I will have to pay $5 more a month to change my plan to the official Sprint plan.
If this all turns to crap I might just eat the lease cost, warranty the phone, re-sell and get something else. I am done with this phone.

Would the tar.gz file or underlying system.img from here work? When I rooted my phone with that image my camera would get errors where the camera has stopped or the device would freeze up and restart a lot.
I'm guessing we need a fresh nonrooted img or tot file. We just need a fresh img or tot file. Can't wait to revert back to complete stock/make a backup/rerun root

I guess it would be better to use a clean non-rooted system.img
But if someone that is rooted and has no trouble with any app can pull their sys.img that would work for you.
Remember the way this restores is exclusively for GFLEX2 so I always suggest you should contact @Sj12345 for guidance, He´s the man.
I just saw y´all had a similar problem to ATT GFLEX2 users no TOT/KDZ.

Even after a year on Android, I'm quite the novice, so please bear with me. So, I rooted my Moto X '14 using CF Autoroot because it was so easy. But, I had no idea how to unroot. So I googled some stuff and I attempted to flash back to total stock rooted rom and recovery. Foolishly, I picked the option to not wipe. So, when it rebooted, it went to the boot screen and crashed.
After trying everything, I realized I had no choice and did an external reset. So, hello 2014 because I'm back on KitKat but still was rooted. After looking around, I realized I can 'unroot' by pressing the option on SuperSU. But, I think all I did was revoke root access because on the bootloader, it still says modified.
I tried to go back to lolipop, but every time I take the OTA, the install crashes, but my phone works fine. So, what I wanna know is how I can go back to stock. Is it easy as flashing as flashing a 5.0 factory image? Or is there more I have to do?

Just flash system and the root will be gone. Also, if you have other mods like TWRP or different modem the OTA won't install, so in order to get the latest update just flash all the files
