My G2 was made in 2014 I guess and it comes with VS98026a. Some people say stumproot works but I'm not taking any risks. What would be the best and safest way to go about rooting this phone?
Thanks in advance

You're not really risking anything. Either stump root works for you, or it does not. You will have to use brute force mode.
If it doesn't work for you, then you will have to .kdz or .tot your way back to 24A, and root 24A with ioroot. After that, just go to system settings, and do a system upgrade all the way up to 27A.

So if the root method fails my phone won't mess up or anything?
I'll keep the downgrade as a last resort because it looks really confusing.
Thanks!

No, it won't mess up your phone. It will just fail at rooting your phone is all.

It says towelroot is only meant for the g3 but people reported success on the g2. Is it a good idea to try?

We were talking about towel root on 26A, not 10B.
Yes I am aware of that just providing my results for op's consideration.
Stump root did the trick for me, and autorec for the recovery. G2 has so many easy ways to do stuff
Thanks guys for the confirmations

If you ever .kdz to 27A, stump root will work, but don't use AutoRec. You'll get a video call error every time at boot up, and you'll get random reboots, and weird phone behavior.
There are other things you can do to get around that.

I didn't KDZ to anything
Autorec worked, went straight to CloudyG2 2.2
All in 1 hour
I love the G2

Do a .kdz or .tot flash. Search within the forums, or Google search. Either way will get you back to stock, and you can root from there.
Thank you, I saw info referring to both .kdz and .tot but could not find anything explicit that I could follow.

Don't know the entire situation, but if you have a custom recovery, then need to revert to stock. If stock recovery and just root, then update, root should be held over update. After update, then install custom recovery.

If it's the update to go from 24a to 26a, then do the update. Root should persist (it has for me, I've done it twice now). I haven't seen anything in the way of performance improvement, but the persistent "update now" pop-up is annoying.

That' the problem, I can't do the update, I get an error 0X1117008. And everything I had read so far, hasn't been helpful, and I really don't want to tell Verizon I rooted it. I am sure they will shoo me away.

The only possible way to fix that at all is in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-flex/general/fyi-taking-ota-rooted-twrp-t2999344
In the new update all one click rooting apps and download mode are now unusable.

Since you asked for it...
1.64 Gb, is that correct? Seems small. The last time I downloaded a kdz it was at least 2 Gb.
That does seem small. Maybe it's a mistake or a bad upload. I'll take a look.
Here is a mirror on my server in case its ever needed
VS98039A_05.kdz - 1676.2 Mb
Btw this kdz works great.I used it last night to great effect.I'm not sure why it's so much smaller.

Depends how you flash it. There's one of two ways - wipes everything or only overwrites the actual system files w/o deleting storage files/settings.
Getting an error saying phone has been disconnected...? Anyone else get that?
Did the update OTA. But now can't root because it fails on the download mode step. Port is open and loads, but just sits there after the sh command. Figure it's related to kdz flash fail. Anyone have any suggestions?

Here it is:

Also, if you get bricked, pm one of those devs and I'm pretty sure they can help you.
Anybody tried different kernel settings and found better performance or battery life? Let's discuss why you wanted root so badly.
Don't forget to press thanks if I helped you with anything!
Looks like the current carrier updates can still be applied and this root method works. I haven't taken ZV5 yet but wouldn't mind seeing if it helps the touch screen of we can still get root. Of course, we will need root for Sprint first.

One thing I can't complain about is battery life. Mine is so good I'm almost afraid to update anything that might effect it lol.

ZV5 does improve a lot. We will have to have 2 system dumps tho? Zv5 and zv4. 2 different root versions?
