Sprint HTC One M8 HK edition vs regular Sprint M8 - Sprint HTC One (M8)

Hi Guys, I just switched from t mobile one m8 to Sprint one m8. There was a huge deal with HTC one m8 HK edition. The cost was only $350 or so. Regular Sprint One M8 was still 600+
Do you know why this phone was cheaper? Will all the custom roms work in this phone? Is there any hardware wise difference? I'm only interested in GPE ROM. Please let me guys. If there is already a topic for this then please help me in locating it. Thanks in advance.

The main difference is the headphones both same hardware just different software by a marginal bit, won't affect flashing gpe

So why is this going cheap, do you know?

No hard facts to support this theory but my guess is they weren't selling well. I didn't care for the color scheme so I was seriously looking at the "regular" One until I learned that the H/K version was available off contract for $315 or somewhere thereabouts direct from Sprint at Christmas time. I jumped on it at that time and am quite happy with my decision. It's a great device.

More options more money plus you can "bundle" a hk with the onyx studio for sales. Mind you it's one of the best speakers I've used to date

[Q] Is it worth selling my Nexus?

I was very interested in selling my nexus and before I did I wanted go get my fellow nexus one user's opinion. Why should I keep this phone? I was looking into the evo by sprint. The screen size amazes me. If I was to sell my nexus one how much would I be able to sell it for? What are some good reasons to keeping my nexus one? I love this phone but I have it stuck in my head that there is something better out there. Please convince me not to sell it.

If you want to switch carriers that's one thing. But on GSM carriers there really is no worthy upgrade till the G2, but even then... A stock 4" phone is needed, the Galaxy S is is more of a side-grade IMO.
The dev level upgrades are one thing that would make me keep this phone for at least mid way through the next year. I like the fact that Google will upgrade this phones' software for a while at least and we don't have to wait for hacked roms or carrier OTA's.
Hold onto it until the Dell Thunder! I am.

On Ebay Canada, used Nexus ones (ATT) are going for $500-1100,
Looking to sell mine for $450, is that a good price?
Definately keeping mine forever. It's more than just a phone.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
There´s n better phone out there (for me )...just bigger screen phones, probably better screen, better multitouch...but that´s all just too little to convince me!
After my Nexus One, it has to be a step forward, like having 1.5 or 2 Ghz
A few points I'd like to share with you.
First, the Nexus One being what it is is reason enough not to get rid of it. It is a classic, it is the only HTC device available with vanilla Android and high end hardware, and everything else has some flavor of garbage depending on the manufacturer. It really is the modern day Google phone, their baby, and the device that gets all the updates before everything else.
I typically sell my old phones to pay for most of the cost of my new ones, but with the Nexus One, I'm pretty sure I'm going to use it until it dies and still keep it to remember how great it was after that.
As for switching to Sprint for the Evo, I would also wait until something truly worthy of replacing your Nexus One comes along (and on a better network). The added features of the Evo aren't worth the poor battery life and slower general operation when using it.
For my next upgrade, I'm going to wait for something with a higher-than-WVGA resolution screen, xenon flash, and something that can truly live up to the Nexus One's legacy.
^ Agree...Won't be selling my classic N1 for some time! And will never go to Sprint
if i buy a phone which is from att or tmobile will i be able to use it i m dubai (u.a.e)

[Q] Still worth buying the HTC One

I have been hooked on the way the HTC One looks and functions. I use to have Samsung Galaxy Nexus until I switched over to ios and have been eyeing this device for a while. Its already Q4 and I've heard rumors of the M8 next year. I've heard great reviews about this phone but now that my contract is done, an upgrade is due. I was wondering if its worth upgrading to the M7 now?
I mean do we really need anything more than a quad-core processor? Most of the apps don't even use that much & 2gb ram sounds great.
I'm just worried about future updates and falling behind on the devices since I'm getting it late. I have a problem when it comes to devices and this is my main crush.
Do you have any concerns about the future of this device? Would it be worth buying it now in November?
Shed some light on me! I can pick up the phone tomorrow if its still a yes 32 gb for $75 upgrade is a deal

Imo yes, you should go for it. This is the best android device I ever owned. Htc one will receive official 4.4 update so im not worried about future of updates. When HTC will no more support this device, there will be plenty of custom roms to bring those updates to us.

Yeah you are right but imo never get a new model at launch, they always have issue with hardware or build quality. I learned that lesson from my HTC one X I bought last year at day 1. Never again lol. so if you want to wait for the M8, I say wait a couple month after launch, that is something to consider imo.

Great thanks for your feedback. I have been exploring the forums for the device and things seem to be pretty good besides the camera tint issue. I love taking photos when I get the chance but Its not a complete deal breaker since the quality is still pretty good even with a 4mp.
I just want to confirm there isn't any lag because i pulled out my Samsung Galaxy Nexus to play with for a few days and I could not enjoy it at all.
I think i'll pick up this phone tomorrow ! now I have to decide either stealth black or metallic blue :good:
nice threads, I'm hooked up with One too, plan to buy soon, but should i wait M8 spec leak?
If true that M8 use snapdragon 800, then I'll buy M7.
I never buy a new model at launch, because I always check the XDA threads, looking for the developers, I love flashin' new ROM every day like my Sensation, until now, the dev's still make a new ROM.
What I'm getting worried is purple tint issue that One have it. I use android from the first till now with HTC Sense and now using the LG G2, I feel something is missing. That's why I want to replace G2 with HTC Devices.

no lag at all for me. I wasn't affected by the camera purp tint issue, maybe because I didn't bought an early device, idk. Also they nurfed boom sound a little bit after 1.28 bcause they had to many blown speakers to repair under warranty. so if you hear boom sound in store, keep in mind it will be less powerful after updating your phone. not an issue for me, its still loud enough with both facing speakers.

Imo don't wait for the snap 800. Believe me, 1.7 Ghz quad is already more than enough for all apps and games and I feel it will be powerful enough for at least 2-3 years to run everything you'll trow at it. Its like the megapixel war, at some point you don't notice any big upgrade in photo quality. imo it same for cpu, it will not make a big difference in everyday usage between snap 600 or 800 except maybe better or even worse battery consumption for higher freq. My One x died like 2 months ago and was powerful enough with its tegra 3.
When the M8 will be released it will probably cost between 600-700$ contract free. At this moment you can easily find a brand new unlocked M7 for under 500$ and spent that extra money for accessories or just keep it in your pocket. well that is my opinion

I believe the difference between snapdragon 600 & 800 not really big, and i agree with you, snapdragon 600 should be more that enough
nah... that's why i always look the XDA developer thread before I buy the phone, it's make me feel save for 1-2 year ahead which HTC software update not really good.
In my country, the HTC ONE cost around $700 just off about $60 after released. But the HTC One Dual Sim now release cost $760 and also HTC One Mini cost $570... hope next moth their price will going down thanks you once again to press my doubt to buy ONE.

today I decide to buy HTC One, but after looking 2 malls, there no one counter that sell HTC ONE, they sell the HTC ONE DUAL SIM GSM/CDMA no LTE version.
I'm confuse about the developers later, it's still support? I search that HTC ONE Dual Sim (M7_U maybe?) can flash the rom from HTC One M7_UL. Should i buy the dual sim or searching the origin HTC ONE?

Dual sim HTC One is a M7_d not a M7_U and I'm sure because I own a M7_U and this is not dual sim. Sure you can flash a M7_UL rom in a M7_U phone (as I did with mine) but it wont enable lte.

I see you decided to get the One then
It was definitely a good choice as the future of this phone is looking good, to be honest.
Before I got the One, I was a bit worried about future support as HTC haven't exactly had a great track record in the past and a lot of their previous phones have had some major issues. It was mainly the sleek that caught my attention and when I finally used one (on the day of release in the UK) my mind was made up.
The One was truly a "do or die" situation for HTC because if this phone hadn't sold well, it would have pretty much finished them off. Luckily for them, however, the phone is great and has been a brilliant seller. They've also done brilliantly with updates so far as have stuck to their word of releasing 4.4 when they said they would. That's why you don't have to worry about only getting the phone now as it will carry on getting better for quite a while yet

This is what I was also worried about when I got my One. I got it the day after release in the UK and figured I would have some issues with it, due to it being the very first build.
Luckily though I've had no issues whatsoever. The only defects I've got is a couple of dead pixels (which I don't notice most of the time anyway) and a slight lift on the top right corner of the phone. As those defects are really minor, and in no way cause for me to return the phone, I've not been bothered by them. The One is way too good for me to be put off by such minor blemishes

no it will not enable LTE as the M7_U use MDM8215 Dual-carrier HSPA+ modem and M7_UL MDM9215 Multi-Mode LTE modem
the main benefit of converting to M7_UL is faster ota update. I was stock on 4.1.2 with my M7_U
Sorry to dig out an old topic.
Planning to buy this for my sister who isn't a power user. Plus relatively small hands as I'll be wrapping it up with a Otterbox case. So it boils down to the fact that is it still worth buying for $200 less?
Thanks

Trade in M8 for S5

So, I am thinking about going to trade in my M8 for a S5 due to how horrible the radio is compared to my S4 on 3G, 4G and WiFi. I bought it at a Best Buy does anyone know would I have to exchange it there or can I do it at a Sprint store?
Also I am rooted with S-OFF I have a TWRP back up that is completely stock that I can flash. Will flashing that plus the modded hboot be enough for me to trade in without them voiding my warranty and not letting me trade?

You have to go through Best Buy being as it came from them, just as long as you're within 14 days of original purchase. As far as being rooted and everything else, they don't care! I've sold them back a few phones running custom ROMs. Pretty funny, last year I sold them an S3 running dazednconfused (awesome themer by the way) "Wicked Sensations" ROM. It said wicked sensations all over it, even the bootanimation, I figured they would have said something, but no! As long as it powers up they're good with it.Good luck
Have you seen the s5 yet? I'm here getting my m8 exchanged for hopefully one with a better working radio and they have the s5 here. I'm honestly not impressed with it at all. The m8 just feels so much more premium and touchwiz looks damn horrible . But to each his own
I debated trading mine in for the gs5, but I decided that I like the m8 better all around.

I went to best buy and tried to trade mine in for another M8 and they didn't have any so then I was like screw it I'll try the GS5. They didn't have any of those either and no other stores in my area do either. Right now I am screwed because I have until Friday to exchange or return. I could return and buy a new one when it comes in stock but then I will have to pay CA tax on it which is tax on the full MSRP of $799 I bought the one I got in SC for $216 after tax vs $264 in CA

Have you visited the gs5 forums? Believe me when I say the grass is definitely not greener on that side.
Yea, I've been there too. Each phone suffers from the same problems. Chalk it up to Sprint not having their network ready for tri-band phones, and Google disabling extsdcard write support.
Samsung has always had better radios than HTC, however my M8 has the best radio thus far over any of my other HTC phones. It still isn't as good as Samsung but it's decent. The only reason I would consider a GS5 would be for the camera. HTC needs to stop with the camera gimmiks and put one good sensor in the camera and be done with it. I think the GS5 is a nice phone, however anytime I have used a galaxy line phone I don't like it at all. It just feels cheap and I hate Touch Wiz. I actually really like HTC Sense. I have been using Sense since the windows mobile days. Samsung phones are by no means perfect, but I do think you will be happier with the radio & camera but that is about it. I don't think it's worth the trade off in my opinion. I have seen plenty of phones with hardware issues both HTC & Samsung are not perfect.

For a couple of years now the radios have been identical.. They're both using the built in qualcomm. Ever since the lte phones first started coming out. The exception would have been back when sprints 4g phones were wimax. And at that time, htc's were actually much much better then samsungs. Samsung was known for having bad radios.
Well I was finally able to find a store with an M8 to exchange mine for today (last M8 at a Best Buy within 50 miles). I haven't been able to do too much tests but my WiFi is 100% better so I am happy now. I guess I did have a defective phone.

I should say radio performance has always been better on Samsung. My m7 compared to a GS4 or Note 3 the Samsung usually would have a lower dBm where my m7 would cut out the Samsung would hold an LTE signal better. The m8 has been much better than my m7 but I have never preferred radio performance on an HTC device versus a Samsung. Not to say I don't prefer HTC over Samsung. I have never liked the Galaxy phones, not to say they are not a nice phone.

Keep in mind that the S5 has the same TriBand Qualcomm Chip and Radio as the M8 and probably very similar firmware as well.
I suspect a "Working" M8 will run very similar to an S5.
Granted some M8's are not working correctly.
It's also extremely painful to get an M8 swapped out if you are over 14 days.
I had an S5 in my hands and brought home but stupid BestBuy sales clerk sold me a Verizon. In that time span I decided I prefer stay with the Devil I Know and got another M8.
If you are under 14days and you are having Network issues on an M8. SWAP IT OUT IMMEDIATELY.
New M8 is night and day working better. But I am very worried long term how it will hold up.

M7 Replacement

I'm up for renewal and initially wanted to get the M9, but from what I've read I don't think it'll be worth the upgrade. I've been leaning toward the Nexus 6. Now that the M7 is two years old, what do you guys plan to switch to?

The M9 is the perfect upgrade from the M7. Don't believe all you read. I got my M9 on the 1st and I'm very happy with it.

The M7+M8=M9, Their is no doubt that the M9 is the best HTC One yet.

I was hoping for a bit larger screen size, such as 5.3" to 5.5", but the phone is already pretty large. How are you liking the camera?

[Q] Worth a Jump?

The power button on my M8 is getting closer to failure and I'm considering a jump to the M9 rather than deal with a badly reconditioned m8 from the warranty center. Question being, Is it worth the Jump? I have read that it has VoLTE which i very much missed coming from a Note 3 to HTC. Does Google Wallet work on the M9? Are you happy with the device overall? For those of you that came from an M8, do you regret getting the new one?
Thanks for your time.
Yes it has VoLTE, Google Wallet works great and performance is undoubtedly the best I've experienced on any device. (I've had the M7, M8 and now M9) I have zero regrets getting the M9 and just got S-OFF. Love it.
