google for adaway. it will take you to a site where you will be able to download the application apk directly!
you can always download the apk from alternative store or from the dev website
please hit THANKS if I helped
sent from somewhere and somehow by the wonderful s3 mini
So true, Play is not the only store in the world and even if it was, there's always DEV's site/blog or XDA.
Anyway, AdAway is working great so I wuld opt for that. Great Dev and great variety of hosts.
Hello, Im having a big issue with a pop up ad. I searched for a similar thread in the forum and didn´t found one, sorry if there is one.
My problem is with this deal-deals-net website, I don´t know why or how but it opens up with chrome every 10-15 seconds. I have tried a lot of things but nothing helps. I tried an adblock but it only blocks chrome from redirecting me to that website but chrome opens anyway. Does anyone know whats happening. Thanks
From the sound of it it sounds like you have a not so friendly software installed on your phone :\ much like an adware on a computer. Would suggest trying to uninstall it, or reinstall your phone and install the softwares you use one by one to see which it is and then remove it (if possible, else reinstall phone again and skip that software).
Thanks for the reply, thats the thing though i havnt installed anything weird and when i go to manage applications I dont see any wird ones installed. But how do I install my phones again?
You can try the function on adaway called adware search.. you can find it by pressing the touch key menu

deal-deals.net Possible Solution
This is a track online advertising campaign, owned by Neverblue, you can visit their web page and leave some salutes. http://fbsvu.com/
Well, after cracking my head, trying to find a real solution before I reset my S3, got on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354533 who suggests this URL Ripper app., just downloaded and used, so far stops this unwanted url pop up... I´m going to keep trying this app.

I believe what this app did to help was preventing the internet browser to pop open by promting the action with the "complete action using" thing. Therefore the browser doesnt show the ad. Thats all I have experienced and I had to reset my phone to factory because the ad was getting my phone impossible to use, it opened up about every 6 seconds.

Many thanks for the prompt reply.
The problem isn't mine but someone elses. So are you saying URL Ripper was just a "sticking plaster" and you had to reset the phone to actually solve it?
Many thanks again.

Hey guys, I was wondering if somebody could give me a hand.
My chromecast ( bought yesterday ) just work with youtube and with the tab cast feature from chrome. I can't get it working with anything else because the cast icon don't appear on those apps, it's like it's not discoverable at all for those apps.
I've done several resets, no luck.
Maybe if I root it? I don't know.
Thanks.

Ok what device and ROM? (I ask about the rom because of your Sinless Sig)
Sounds like something is blocking the ports used to discover the units.
Either you have some security software blocking it, some network config disabled (UPnP, Multicast) or your device (and ROM) is messing with the works.
Can you see it on other devices? How about the Googlecast ext in Chrome?

Yes, I'm using GPE rom for the M7.
I can cast tabs from chrome without a problem.
I'll try to flash another, maybe a sense rom and see if that's the problem :/

I wouldn't go chasing roms as most would not change anything about the networking in most cases...Only a ROM overly obsessed with Privacy and Security would mess with those...
It is probably a networking issue or it could be that whatever your flashing does not have the latest Google Services installed that I believe is required for proper discovery...
But I would expect that to affect YouTube as well...

What make/model is your router?
Almost sounds like AP isolation is on, was it YouTube on phone/tablet, or YouTube in Chrome that worked?
FWIW, root won't change anything, and if you've been playing with it this long it's not rootable, and probably wasn't rootable to begin with anyway.
BubbleUPnP doesn't show a cast icon, you have to select the Chromecast as a renderer under the devices tab of the app.

Well I would notify the Devs that maintain the GPE ROM and let them know that they have a problem with their Networking most notably in regards to mDNS, UPnP or Port Blocking.
Explain what happened to you and see if they can reproduce it.
Well I've searched around this forum and found that there wasn't a thread about firewall apps.
My question is: Which app have you tried and found that it works perfectly for you?
My main goal here is to limit some apps from using up my mb's when I'm away from my wifi.
So which app do you guys recommend?
P.S. obviously this might require root which isn't a problem.
A firewall for a phone ? ? Seriously.... It's as useless like many fake antivirus for phones.... Just not install useless and strange apps from other sites, and don't clic on EV every link you receive

Umm...if it wasn't clear from the post, what I meant by firewall is an app that'll prevent installed apps from using up my internet data bundle.
A lot of cariers, including mine, don't offer cheap unlimited data bundles and, hence, I have a need to stop certain apps from accessing the internet when not on wifi.
My question has nothing to do with security.
FW
I'm using the FireWall Plus
And I'm quite happy with it... You can choose if you want block/allow Data/Wifi ... one or both :good:

Well I gave Firewall Plus a fair day's trial, for the most part, it works nicely.
But google now and google chrome seem to be blocked even though they are white listed in the app which is weird. Do I need to check something else for them to work?
Btw, I know the app was set up properly since other apps such as whatsapp to receive Internet while others like facebook don't.

You can choose if you want black list or white list...
Personally I use black list... so I check GSM or Wifi or both, click to "Save rules" in the top menu and it works... I never had any trouble with it
I might be something "deeper" of app networking... I would suggest to report it to coders of FP.
I would highly recommend DroidWall...best ever..
Quick question, I'm familiar with using ADB for various reasons, one thing I'm not sure is if ADB has root access, without the phone being rooted?
Specifically, could I pull the hosts file, copy in everything from my other devices host file that's updated regularly, and then push it back to the phone?
I've looked on Google and saw some guides saying you could do this, but I'm not convinced ADB has root access on a non rooted phone.
I can't try right now as I won't be home for several days and no PC, so just thought I'd ask.
It can't be done without root
Yup, can't be done without root. If you're looking for adblocking I'd recommend AdHell 3 been using it since launch and it's working great. Blockda is also a great alternative.

Yeah that's what I expected, thanks for the replies though.
Yes they're two apps I've been looking at as well, so will probably give them both a try, I've already debloated the phone massively, so if I can get a decent ad blocker working too then I hardly have need for root.
i recommend adhell3 as well, works very good, since the day i installed it i havent seen one single ad. it also has a built in app disabler which works very well (used it to disable facebook & bixby)

Got it working in chrome, just had to add com.android.chrome|*|53 in the blacklist. Might help someone else who needs it ?
