I lost symbols on keyboard. How do I get them back? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yesterday, I was messing with Xposed Installer to try get a "recovery" button in my power menu. I installed Wanam, but it seemed to have no effect, so I uninstalled it.
Today, I long-pressed the power button and saw the familiar advanced power menu that Wanam adds, even though Wanam was no longer there!
Just now, I noticed I have a regular keyboard without the long-press symbols I've had since the day I bought this phone. Running stock ROM, rooted. I don't know if Wanam is the culprit, but I suspect it might be related.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get symbols back? I installed SwiftKey but don't like it. I want my Samsung keyboard with symbols back.

Easy to do - install Xposed installer again then look for a mod called Samsung alt keyboard and install it. Activate and reboot the phone and you get your symbols back. Good luck

Happened to me on note 3... I now back up feature xml. Once I retire it symbols come back

It's under Wanam, system, check enable system symbol.

[Q] Lost Google Now from Home Button

I have a crazy problem I could use some help with. I was trying a few different kernels on the new TMOUS 4.3 update including various button mods and somehow I lost all Google Now actions from Home button. I tried reboots, swapping the Gestures options in Settings, Xposed Framework Mods, and even reflashing the stock Kernel. The button vibrates on long press but does nothing. Even remapping the button with the Sense 5 Toolbox does nothing. It's really bizarre. Has anyone seen this or knows a fix without reflashing my entire system partition from TWRP (I smartly made a backup)? I've done a lot of customizations I don't want to have to redo. Any help is greatly appreciated!
I am having the same problem with my home button. It does nothing on long press (doesn't even vibrate) even though it is set to Google Now. I've tried the same things you have but haven't been able to fix it. If anyone knows what the issue is please help! Thanks.
As a work around I have used the Xposed Frameworks and Sense Toolbox to add Google Now to a long press on the back button. It's a quick and dirty fix but the home button failure is troublesome. There has got to be a container that maps the function of long press to the apk. Maybe you should try the Xposed/Sense Tool box Mike and see if you can remap your Home to GNow (or trigger a reset to it). It didn't work for me but I at least get the vibrate confirmation that it wants to do something. Also did you notice all of the kernels (or one of them also perm effected this too) force the vibrate intensity to 2000 (too low for my comfort)? Even flashing stock didn't restore that. You can barely feel the motor and I had to install TrickDroid from the market to reset the value on boot. >_< Is that a build.prop mod or something?

[Q] Home button long press issues *FIXED*

So I am on a custom ROM (FireNote) and it changed my home button longpress to open up "Device options". I want to change it back to open my task manager/recent apps, just like it does on stock. I have installed several apps and I still cant get it to go back :/ I guess another thing to mention is that I am running NOVA launcher.
FIXED! In Wanam exposed under system you change long press home behavior to something else and then change it back to recent apps or whatever you want and reboot.

If you want to change/add more button functionality, you could try gravity box.
It has a navigation button section where you can change all the buttons.
I for example made the display turn off when long pressing menu button, which is pretty handy on a large device like the note 3

[SOLVED] Home Button and WAKE TO HOME SCREEN issue

Hi, everyone
Recently I started using the Cover Lockscreen on my samsung S Advance which is a great alternative to the stock lockscreen. However I got this annoying behavior when waking up my phone with the home button because systematically I get back to the home screen and then losing my last app position.
After searching in the forum I found that other users (Note2 and S3) are reporting the same behavior about the home button when waking the phone up with a lockscreen. And I tried the next advised solution:
First with R/W root permission, one should open the file /system/usr/keylayout/gpio-keys.kl
Then inside the gpio-keys.kl the last line must be edited to change from "key 172 HOME WAKE" to "key 172 HOME WAKE_DROPPED"
In theory this should fix the problem but in fact on my S Advance it doesn't work. Then I wanted to ask if anyone has a better solution or any clue to solve this frustrating behavior.
At the moment my single solution is to deactivate the home button while the screen is off. This can be done if the last line in the gpio-keys.kl doesn't include the "HOME" word. This means that I can only wake my phone with the Power button which it is still not very ergonomic to my taste.
INFO: I'm using a stock Jelly Bean ROM 4.1.2 (XXLQE), the Co-core 8.2 Kernel and LightJB.
I hope you can help to figure out how to fix it.
Thanks in advance
SOLUTION: Xposed Additions Module
The fix can be done using the Xposed Additions Module.
Actually it's pretty easy:
-Install / Enable the Adittions Module inside Xposed Framework and Reboot.
-Open Xposed Additions and go to the last menu option "Buttons"
-Remap [HOME] and choose the condition "Screen Off / One click Action / Power". Voila! you're done.
I thoughtI I had to live forever with that issue. Thanks and all the credit to the developer.

[Q] No keyboard after restart

Hey all,
My new m8 (AT&T, 4.4.2, rooted) is having some issues. After a restart, I went to type a text and got no keyboard popup or notification to select input. I assumed my Swype trial had expired, went and uninstalled the trial and tried to install the full version. On the second screen, it tells you to select the Swype + Dragon keyboard, but when I select it, nothing changes; it just goes back to the Swype app telling me to select the keyboard. I'm not even getting the stock Android keyboard anymore, and I can't bring up the input selection through anything other than the Swype app. (On a similar but potentially random side note, it also won't let me change my auto-rotate setting. If I enable it, it immediately disables itself when I change screens.) I downloaded SwiftKey and it gets stuck on the same screen, but when I select it, the keyboard will pop up in texts (it just has a notification that I need to finish installation.)
Just trying to avoid a fresh install...
EDIT: if I select the stock keyboard, I can also get that working (the notification to change input also comes back), so it's now just Swype.

May i suggest you to try Swiftkey instead of Swype? Swiftkey is a great keyboard, it does also have the "swype" feature and recently, full version of Swiftkey became free compared to Swype which cost around 5$ and it was also recently updated to support emoji.
Btw you have posted in the M7 forum, forum for the M8 is here

Have you tried a different keyboard?
How about getting rid of the soft keys all together?
I use "all in one gestures" from the play store.

Of course you'll have to hide/disable the navbar.
I use this xposed module:

Thank you very much for your response, yes, I've tried 3rd party keyboard like google keyboard or SwiftKey, but it just same, I'm just wondering is it a software issues or hardware, because the softkey back to normal when the keyboard is close,
Sent from my LG-H959 using XDA Free mobile app
I'd certainly give my solution a try, at least. Nothing to lose but some time.
And yes, it sounds like a software glitch to me.

Soft Keys and Keyboards
Hey, I have the LG G Flex USA T-Mobile version, and it has the same problem. I think I know what caused the issue, but I don't know how to fix it. Everything was fine with my phone until I went into the settings to hide the soft keys while certain apps are open (kind of like full screen mode). Well, I checked the boxes next to all apps including the keyboards, and this is when it started.
It's my opinion (I could be right or I could be wrong) that this has occurred because of a coding glitch when hiding the soft keys when a keyboard is present. Disabling this option for keyboards is broken in that the soft keys become visible again, but the actionable view of them is still hidden.
My phone isn't rooted (there's no root option once updating to 4.4.2 except KingRoot which I'm suspicious of it being spyware due to unwarranted activities with it installed), so I can't install a different ROM; however, I did do a manufacturer reset a few days ago and the problem still remains.

So I went ahead and applied King Root just to try this fix and I am very impressed with this set up! It feels so much better to be able to swipe the screen to perform these actions rather than press a button at the bottom. Opens up more screen realty and provides an overall better UI feeling since those button icons were outdated anyways! Thanks for this response!
