Carrier Unlock without alternate SIM? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've gotten the unlock code from AT&T but the instructions tell me to insert a SIM card from another carrier in order to get the prompt to enter it. I don't have any other SIM cards at the moment to do this. Is there another way to get the prompt?
Thanks!
I'm also going to give Swappa a try for the first time for this sale rather than eBay. Figured people would be more hip to a carrier unlocked, s-off, GPE custom rom M7 there!

No

just go to another carrier and ask them you wanna test if your phone can connect to their network because you are considering switching to their network. They will try with one of their sim card, enter the code and voila.

How can I unlock my phone to work with prepaid SIM card?

I honestly tried to find the answer to this everywhere before posting. I already have the unlock code from HTC and Tmobile. I simply need to figure out how to unlock the phone.
The instructions I received with the unlock code said that the phone would notify me that the SIM is unregistered and I would put in my unlock code at that point. I assume this is only the case on a vanilla version of Android or whatever the current official release is.
As you may have guessed, I have my phone rooted and have been running CM for a while. When the prepaid SIM is in the phone CM does seem to realize that its there and there is a SIM tool app but it does nothing. I have flashed to a couple different customer ROMS including dwang and a couple older version of CM.
Is there any way that I can actually unlock my phone without having to unroot and go back to the official android release from tmobile?
Thank you to anybody that can help me.

Is it The AT&T Prepaid sim card. If it is then i don't think it would work. i have an unlocked g1 with an AT&T sim card and i unlocked it before rooting. So guess u have to do the same. hope i helped
Right now I am trying with a TracFone SIM card but I could try with an AT&T card from a friend in a couple of days. I don't even really need to get the service to work at this point.
The two things I really want are just to be able to unlock my phone and backup my contacts onto a secondary SIM card and I am having no luck doing either.

AT&T HTC One on Vodaphone in NZ

I'm from the US and am in New Zealand for a month. I own an HTC One which I purchased from AT&T and have been using on their network in the States. I've unlocked the phone, and also have S-Off. I've purchased a prepaid SIM card from Vodaphone in New Zealand. When I insert the SIM card, the phone asks me for the 8 digit SIM unlock code, so I entered the 8 digit PUK code provided by Vodaphone with the SIM. The phone tells me this code is invalid. I'm not quite sure why this isn't working - is it possible I need to load a different firmware to use the phone in New Zealand?
Kernel is 3.4.10-g31f7883
Firmware looks like 3.62.401.1
I'm currently using ViperOne ROM.
Certainly appreciate any input on this issue.
Thanks,
Josh
Well, I did not realize that bootloader unlock and SIM unlock are two different things. That's a bit confusing. Wish I had figured that out prior to flying here.

If I remember correctly (this is all from memory), for the unlock code to work, you need
1) correct (original) CID and MID
2) stock ROM (some were able to do it on custom ROMs, but not sure if all work or only certain ones)
3) stock firmware for above ROM
4) stock recovery
5) LOCKED or RELOCKED bootloader
6) S-Off won't matter, and that will be your ticket to unlock again
you can search the forum here for SIM UNLOCK, there are quite a few similar cases, which got solved by a combination of points 1 through 5.
If anyone stumbles onto this thread in the future...
Turns out I needed a code from AT&T, as I needed to carrier unlock the phone before being able to use the Vodaphone SIM. I tried contacting AT&T to get the code, but they won't give it to you unless you are out of contract.
I was able to get an unlock code using option 5 in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2242473
I loaded a stock ROM, but left the bootloader and my custom recovery on there, and the unlock code worked just fine.

SIM Unlock

Is there anyway to unlock a HTC One (M7) without have a non-network sim? Such as cmd line etc. I have my unlock code just not a sim, I'm using AIO and the sim works but would like to unlock the sim tray still. Any ideas?

Look, if there is no SIM, then it is already unlocked. Contact your network provider to help you in the process. A command line unlocks the bootloader, not the SIM

I had the same situation with a couple of phones, just go to the nearest phone store/dealer and ask to borrow a sim card, I have not been denied and I don't know any of the employees, and you don't even have to be their customer.
Or just use a friend's/colleague's/etc.

When you don't understand or know the answer, it is best to just not comment lest you make yourself appear less-than-smart. :silly:

OP is asking how to sim-unlock a sim-locked phone if he doesn't have a different sim card other than the one provided by its carrier where the phone was purchased

He is not talking about unlocking bootloader but about sim-unlocking the phone.
@sapplegater
Like suggested above, ask a friend to borrow his sim card, put it in your phone and you'll get prompted to enter your sim-unlock code. Or like said I'm sure you can ask any carrier to borrow a sim card in store, just make them believe you'll take a line with them if your able to sim-unlock your phone.

help! my M8 didn't ask me about the unlock code

I try to unlock my Sprint M8,I tried T-mobile and AT&T sim card.
But my phone didn't likes youtube video, My phone didn't ask me about the unlock code. It just simply tell me the sim card is Invalid.
I have tried to use the unlock helper to unlock it, but it just unlock the internation lock.
I still want to unlock the domestic carrier lock.
Is it the ROM problem?
My phone use the Android 4.4.3,and it is S-OFF.
Please help me!
If you're trying to unlock your phone to use it on another domestic carrier, you're not going to be able to do that. SIM unlocking will work for international use.

If you already have your unlock code thats a good thing. Now to use it, you must shut your phone down, insert a foreign sim card (from a different carrier than AT&T, borrow a friend's sim card if necessary), boot it up and you should get prompted to enter the sim unlock code. Once done your phone is sim-unlocked and will accept any carrier sim card. Your phone must be running the stock rom btw (or a stock-ish rom, will not work on Cyanogenmod for example but should work on ARHD).
