you cant downgrade your HBOOT whilst s-on, so you need to get s-off first, the only way to s-off HBOOT 1.57 is to use sunshine and will cost $25. http://theroot.ninja/

yes as far as I know it works on 1.60, sunshine will check your phone first though before you pay so no need to worry, if it cant s-off your phone then you don't pay, if it can then you pay and it continues.

flash the latest TWRP recovery, enter recovery, exit recovery and say yes when it says would you like to root, when the phone reboots, open SuperSU and update the binary, very easy, don't know who told you it was hard but ive never had a problem.

[Q] need help getting back to stock on hk version

hey yall I been searching and reading all forums on going back to stock. theres only regular sprint htc m8 version and nothing on the hk edition so I can get the new ota and remain on stock. ive lost my back up file when I upload a custom rom. ive tried a bunch of things like using ruu and that but kept getting an error like a 32 and a 99. I cant get the s-on to turn off to get more. idk if im doing something wrong or what but im hoping someone can shine some light this way and help me out. yes I tired the sunshine apk but it pops up need based rom etc. so.........
You have to relock to use an RUU when you're still S-ON, and you must make sure that you're using an HK RUU.

not to seem stupid but this is a learning process for me coming from iphone to android. so when u say relock u mean bootloader? n do I need to have original recovery. and when I do the ruu im using fastboot it wont cuz me to have an error again right?

Yes, relock the bootloader (fastboot oem lock). That'll prevent the error 92 or whichever it was. It doesn't matter what recovery is on there, as the RUU will overwrite it with stock.

Did you review the instructions on how to flash it? I believe you extract the 0P6BIMG.zip from the larger zip file, and put it on your external SD.

You can try Firewater, but most likely you'll need to use SunShine.

S-OFF Situation with last Firmware & H-BOOT 1.57

Hey guys,
i'm sending my One to htc at the moment and i think i'll get it back in a couple of days with new camera module and a firmware update .
At the moment my HBOOT is 1.4x, the phone was S-OFF via revone and i reversed it back to stock yesterday.
Are there any safe possiblities to S-OFF a 1.57 HBOOT device WITHOUT using htcdev?
From what i've read recently
- Revone isn't supported with HBOOT 1.57
- Firewater can maybe S-OFF but needs HTCDEV unlock and maybe the Bootloader is TAMPERED after that
- Sunshine costs 25 USD !?
So is the conclusion correct that an unlock via htcdev is absolutely necessary to S-OFF atm?
Is it also correct that i can't get rid of the TAMPERED flag when Firewater fails?
Thanks
Once S-Off you can revert the BL back to locked and remove the tampered flag anyway.
That's right but from what i heard some devices can't be S-OFFed with Firewater. Then the device is TAMPERED and you can't get rid of that because S-OFF doesn't work!?

you cant get rid of the tampered flag full stop without s-off
sunshine does not require the bootloader to be unlocked, it does everything for you but like you said costs $25 however, it is a one off payment, after that you don't need to pay again to s-off the same device again.
all other s-off tools require the bootloader to be unlocked via HTC Dev.
if you are on HBOOT 1.56 or 1.57 and firewater fails then sunshine is the only way.

Okay, thank you very much for that!
Sorry for the question but can i install TWRP and flash ROMs via Recovery when just htcdev unlocked and S-ON? On the One X it was necessary to flash the boot.img from a pc. On the One this isn't necessary right?

yes you can flash custom rom's whilst s-on as long as the bootloader is unlocked and also correct, no need to flash the boot.img separately.
Does someone know what devices will fail with firewater? Is it a change in the hardware maybe? My One is from May 2013 so i hope it may work.
There has to be a change between the devices with 1.57 that fail and the devices that work!?

if you sent your phone back to HTC to get the camera repaired, they will probably replace the motherboard, if they do then firewater probably wont work, all you can do is try.
Okay, i'll wait and report
Dunno if it's different but when I s-offed and unlocked and rooted my HTC one max I used firewater and used temp root method which in turn s-offed and unlocked bootloader which can be done on our highest hboot. I don't no if it's different for you guys but it might not be such a major problem but when I sent my HTC one m7 back for repair when I had it I reverted back to stock and left s-off present they said nothing about it.

if you request them to don't update software they don't do that
If it's camera problem they don't tends to update they don't waste their time if your phone motherboard s off once it can be easily again

[Q] I can't find updated info on getting this phone S-OFF + Rooted anywhere?

I unlocked my bootloader and flashed TWRP and rooted through that, and now i am wanting to flash a rom, but firewater is gone. How do i go about flashing Viper/Slim? Can i do it without S-Off, is there a way to achieve S-Off? EDIT: Im on sprint!

you have to flash superuser to get root then flash a rom, you don't need s-off, depending on what rom you flash, if it won't boot after flashing just flash the boot.img from the rom zip and you're good to go.

not completely.
I feel your pain. It seems that the newer ROMs almost require S-Off now for ease of installation, mainly due to the need of having updated firmware. I've never understood where the line is drawn between ROMs being 'based' off certain firmware, compared to the firmware actually installed on the phone (visible in Bootloader). Apparently they can be mixed-and-matched to a point? With Firewater now discontinued, it is getting very difficult to obtain S-Off, especially if (like me) you are on HBoot 1.57. I don't really care about being S-Off as long as I can update the firmware some other way like fastboot flashing an img file, but I don't know (a) if it would work, and (b) if it would it fubar my existing ROM?
What do you mean by firewater is gone?So you are s-on.Twrp.Rooted right?Which hboot are you on?1.57?There is a way
According to the website, Firewater has been discontinued, and the download is no longer available. Yes, I am personally unlocked, rooted, s-on, hboot 1.57, TWRP.

I feel you on this one. I am in the same situation as you. I can't flash a kernel nor Rom (w/out getting Bricked or Bootloops). Its like we have a useless rooted device. It was a pain just trying to get AdAway to work on this device bc even after rooting it ... the SD is protected. So now it seems as if we pretty much need to have S-Off as the norm now.
So have you solved this or did you just get it done through sunshine? if so, did sunshine get it off for you?

I sucked it up and paid the $25 for Sunshine. It was my Xmas present to myself. It worked perfectly, and worth the time it saved...actually, I didn't have any other options.

[Q] Problems with SunShine: what stock kernel to flash?

Hello,
I wanted to S-OFF my HTC One M7 and it looks like my last hope is use SunShine in the end.
Since I receive the following message when SunShine runs on my phone, I would like to receive some help to figure out what is the stock kernel I have to flash in order to run SunShine.
At the moment I use Elemental X kernel, as shown in the signature below, but I have not been able to find a kernel to meet the requirements. By the way, I have a rooted and unlocked phone, and I wouldn't like to come back to stock if possible.
Thanks

Hi!
Thanks a lot for your hint!
And what about doing as explained here instead? I mean where it says about "Step-by-step procedure before attempting to S-OFF (with the universal Rumrunner version for international variants)".
It doen't say anything about the hboot version. That should work I guess, without wiping anything by the way.

nope, you cant back flash your HBOOT at all unless you are already s-off, I see in your signature your on 1.57, sunshine is the only way to s-off your device, really the only way - (people still ask after saying this if there is another way), you also need as close to stock as possible to use sunshine.
I succeeded using Sunshine in the end, flashing a stock kernel (boot.img) extacted by a stock ROM.

Kindly Guide Me

I have one HTC One M8 Sprint (Non HK version). presently it has android 4.4, S-ON, sim unlocked, rooted, twrp.
i want to install lolipop rom on it. kindly guide me how to proceed with all requirements step by step. and which lolipop rom is good for daily use.
thanks
We can't. Sunshine doesn't seem to work anymore to gain s-off do we are screwed until someone that doesn't support a paywall figures out how to be able to gain s-off so we can flash the RUU.
I hate this damn phone and I wish I knew how to develop myself.

Plenty of other people have successfully RUU'd their phones while S-on. It does require an extra step but it can be done. Also, as far as S-off with Sunshine, I believe the latest version (3.0) is compatible with Lollipop.
To the OP: Hit the second link in my sig. Scroll down to the RUU section and take a read. A link to OMJ's RUU thread can be found at the bottom of the first post of my thread. Download the latest applicable RUU (4.25.651.14 for NON-HK or 4.25.654.14 for the HK version). Follow my instructions in my thread to run the RUU on your device.

External sd method = needs s-off so won't work for s-on users.
Fastboot method = most RUU's are exe files so most likely won't work via fastboot method.
Changed my CID = cannot be done unless you are s-off.

Are you by chance using a computer, not to be a ****, but like what are some of the results and we can try to help you with using the RUU... Sometimes they are touchy and need to be done in an exact way...and patience is key
