Hey all,
I have replaced the charge port once already on my vivid, as it would no longer connect to a computer, and while the replacement worked wonderful, I noticed that after a couple months it got looser (cord wasn't anchored in as well) like the one I replaced, until one of the pins bent inward. I attempted to pull it back out but that just broke it off.
Are there any charge ports I can get that are more... Life proof or me-proof? More so than the original one.
Also, my audio port is being very picky about when it thinks there is a cord in it, making playing music in my car a hassle. Is Is his happening happening anyone else? Is there a way to fix it? Are there replacement audio jacks, or do I need to replace the whole case?
Thanks for whoever can point me in the right direction!

Lesson learned by me...
Spend at least $12 on your port...
I replaced 2 cuz I bought a $5 one and it lasted about 2 months...
The $12 one I bought lasted till the phone no longer took a charge... Got another year by buying that charge port and a $15 3500mah battery at the same time
Thank you, I've since bought another ~$15 port and it's doing fine so far. I also got my 3.5mm audio port working just fine again! I cleaned it out using a paperclip and got loads of dust and rubbish out of it, and now it's fine. Unfortunately the touchscreen doesn't work properly in a few areas, and reseating the flex cable did not resolve that issue, so I'm thinking I may upgrade to an Asus Zenfone 2 (still can't believe it's running an intel chip). Still gonna grab a new digitizer and repair, but my poor Vivid is getting pretty sluggish with my usage, and its age doesn't make it an appealing device to develop for, so the PAC rom is the newest we're gonna get for an OS.
Definitely gonna figure out a way to use it as a security cam though

Hey Guys,
so i bought my phone in december online and it worked great. I love the phone and think its an unbelievable investment. But just last week, I tried to plug in my mini-usb upside down and I cracked the small chip that the miniusb plugs into.
The phone does not charge, and seems pretty much ruined. I tested alternate batteries and went to the at&t store and they said that because its cracked it wont charge.
Does anyone know of any reasonably priced repair centers? Or has anyone ever had experience just shipping it back to them and getting a new one?
I called them and said it would cost $300 to repair, cost me $250 to buy....
Thanks a lot,
Greg
Search -- there's a place in the US that will repair it for about $80
The same thing happend to my tilt. I would recomend you try charging it using the adapter. It seems the adapter aligns the pins on the mini USB port.
Hope this helps.
There is always the option of getting a second batter and a cradle to charge it I have one just so i can take the spare battery on the go
Here is a good example of what to look for
Its not a fixed USB port but this should get you back in business. Also, If you have Hard-SPL , you dont need the USB port to flash or mod another rom. Just use the Micro-SD card. Its faster and easier anyway
Hope this helps
Excellent repair work from: www.ppctechs.com
I've had two tilts repaired.
Recently a bad charger accident fried my nexus one. On investigation it was found that the mid chassis has been damaged and if i get a replacement for the same the phone should work fine. Since am in India, this phone is not covered under warranty nor are the part available. Can somebody help me by pointing me to site wherein i can buy the spares for the phone. I found this site in China but they are not selling it as of now.

The part shown is the one that has been damaged.
Great find thanks

I stopped using my home charger because a few days ago, I'd plug it in, it would show it was charging but I'd wake up and it would be almost dead. Next night, same thing. I plugged it in one day, watched it, and it was LOSING power pretty quickly.
I think my charger has a short as well.
I think im having a problem with my charger as well, If i use the A/C charger when I wake up the phone is extremely hot so I play it safe and use usb and a blackberry charger
Arg.
So my otherwise adorable 1 year old somehow got his hands on my Captivate this weekend. When we finally caught him, he was chewing and slobbering on it pretty much right where the USB port is. After getting the phone back out of his grubby little hands, my wife and I took it completely apart and have had the whole works soaking in rice for a day or so.
When I put it back together, it booted just fine, and everything seems to be in working order. Except...when I plug a cable into the USB port, it doesn't charge, and it doesn't connect to my computer for storage mounting/flashing. This would be a bit of a problem.
I've checked for obstructions in the port itself and there don't seem to be any. I can get by for now without charging because my wife and I have the same phone (so we can periodically swap batteries...), but she's leaving town for two weeks at the end of this week. I really don't want to have to buy a new phone...so any ideas on fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

Once the USB port is gone its gone, you would need to get an external wall charger for it and a wifi file browser.
there might be some moister in it yet, but generally the captivates had issues with the USB port just flaking out like that. Its a common problem for this phone, and also has happened to mine.
Or you can just pay ~35$ to get it fixed, look in my sig. They are good!

Hmm...I didn't even realize that was an option. I'll be looking into that. Thanks!
They fixed mine and it works great. I would also order a new cable from them for like 7 bucks. It is all well worth it!
interesting, didnt know about that one either
Update:
It's apparently not *quite* as dead as I thought. It's still not recognizing my computer or telling me that it's charging...but apparently it is actually charging my battery. I plugged it into my computer just to see and left it. It never said that the phone is charging, but when I came back a few minutes later the battery meter had gone up, and it's still doing that fairly consistently.
That's at least good news for now. Even if the USB transfer is dead, I'm still OK as long as I can charge. As long as I don't have to use download mode...
That sounds like a bad cable, just buy one of those first, cheaper and easier to check!

It's nothing to do with the cable. We have four USB cables and two different car chargers. It's the same thing with all of them, and they all work perfectly on my wife's phone.

My first Captivate had a USB port go bad.. I tried 10 different cables and decided for some reason it was a ROM issue and got into download mode.. well let's just say I was buying another Captivate the next day.. lol
I did resurrect it by buying a Captivate with a broken screen on Ebay cheap. Combined the two and it's actually a later production and the GPS works good compared to hardly at all before. M yold screen and new guts.. Now I have a spare phone to try new Roms on without messing up my daily driver.. (Dark Knight 4 atm)
I see broke screen Captivates for $40-80 on Ebay regularly..
My wife also has a captivate with a dead USB port. So I went on amazon and searched for captivate batteries and external charger and found a package that came with 2 extended life batteries and the wall charger that charges one separatly from the phone while you use the other in the phine . Its made by Laza wireless and both batteries and charger was 15.99 and shipped free. Got it in two days and works great and was a whole lot cheaper than a phone.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread but, I have had the same problem for months also caused by a toddler sucking on the phone and cables. I swap batteries daily. stock/1800/2430 mah. I am curious if anyone knows of a wireless charging option. I know my wii batteries are inductive and it is just the new battery and charger on a stock remote. is there an inductive charger and battery available for cappy? is wireless charging dangerous to the phone if it wasnt designed with it in mind? for that matter is anything available for anyother phones besides the lumia 920 and maybe nexus I think?
cheapest, best option is to get the USB port repaired by mobiletechvideos.com, imho.
I know of no induction solution for captivate that works without a good usb port.
I figured and also thought the Cappy wouldn't be a device supported by a new battery developer when there is so many newer ones out.
Thx

Wow, I feel like McGuyver.
My Incredible S stopped charging when I was fiddling around with a car charger. Also USB-data connection to the computer did not work anymore.
I suspected that there was a fault in the car electric and a chip was blown by too high voltage.
I still have had a torx driver since I changed the screen on my former Wildfire. So I wanted to see if there was a little chance to repair it.
When I opened the device I could not see anything burnt or so inside. The USB-Port was connected with a flex cable to the main board. I removed it. Then I connected the port to an USB-Port of my computer and tried to measure if there was any voltage. Of course I "managed" to create a shortcut while measuring and my computer shut down immediately. Anyway, I had the impression that there was no voltage at the end of the flex cable. I did a little Google search and found out that there were some offerings for an "USB Flex Board" for the Incredible S. So I decided to spend the 25€ on this little piece of nothing.
Today I replaced the old USB - et voila - it works!
I found some articles on the net from people with similar problems but no solution. So I hope this might help. Perhaps the flex cable blows easily or the solder joints between port and flex cable get broken after a while. Somebody offers the USB-socket without flex cable. This is completely useless because the socket won't broke and you won't be able to solder it on the little flex cable.
If you want to try it on your own. I highly recommend to watch the YT-Video on how to open the Incredible. You should have the torx driver and a very small watchmaker driver for these two very little screws on the main board.

Same to me before it fully stopped working. I suspect the soldering joints are breaking after a while.
Mine is broken too.
Thank you for that. I've ordered a new one and hope it will work again
I've got to admit that's dedication. If that happened to my phone id just buy a new one lol. So well done!

Thank you for sharing. I'm undecided whether I should repair for myself and really void the guarantee or if I should send it to HTC for repair.
Why did you not use guarantee? HTC provides 24 months?
Don't you trust "Arvato Services Solution GmbH"?
Have you been afraid of being rejected because of S-OFF?
It seems that one can buy the USB connector also at ebay:
Search for "USB Power Charger Charging Connector Port Flex Cable HTC Incredible S S710e G11" or similar.

My warranty was void anyway through heavy ROM-Flashing and I thought I cooked a chip inside at first. If you still have warranty you should send it in of course.
But you have to wait for a while and you won't feel like McGuyver
Thanks for the info and for posting the info!
Firstly, I would apologize for replying to a year old thread.
@tricki, thanks for your post. You gave me the courage to replace my damaged USB port. For my fellow Inc S users who have a damaged USB port, you can find all the required replacement parts in ebay. The replacement takes 15 to 20 minutes (Okay, 30 min. for a first timer). Make sure you purchase a kapton tape just in case your old tape inside the phone refuses to stick again (like mine!). To remove the two tiny screws on the motherboard, you need a #0 philips screw driver (I did not have this at hand the first time I opened the device, so I had to order one and wait for it to arrive). Be gentle while flipping the mother board..It is not that hard anyway.
I posted this because I wanted to share my experience with you guys. My phone is now charging normally and the most important part is.... my computer detects my phone properly!
I also changed my usb port. It's really easy to do it. So, do not waste yours money and just do it.
Incredibly Tapatalked!
Hi,
My IncS has started playing up over the past week or so.
Every night now, when I get up in the morning I have to remove the battery from the phone and power it back up as it has totally frozen.
Another weird thing is the battery is normally really drained once I have it powered back up. Doesn't have any problems during the day at all, never freezes or anything but overnight when it is plugged in to charge,it dies.
I've tried replacing the battery (I had a spare) as it only happens when mains charging and, like I said, when it is turned back on the battery is substantially lower then when it was plugged in but that didn't help.
I tried totally wiping the phone and installing a new ROM (szeszo's lovely new cyanogen with his Tesco kernal) and it is still happening...
Anyone else experienced this? Any idea what's caused it? And finally, does anyone know a way I can do so kind of logs about what is going on?
Thanks...
I had the same issue too. Was USB connector related. Had to sent my device to htc repair

Unfortunately it didn't turn out to be the USB port or cable. Thanks for the suggestions though.
It started freezing when it wasn't plugged in at all and it was doing my nut in...
Yesterday I bought a Note 2 and it gets delivered today. I know, it's huge and I'll probably end up selling it on when I get fed up of having to carry it round in a wheel barrow
It is such a damn shame to be putting the IncS to sleep at last. It's been a damn good phone for a long time (probably the longest I've ever used 1 phone for!). Somehow I can't imaging the Note being as well made as this was. The moment HTC do a Nexus phone I'll be selling whatever I have and buying up cos that will be awesome.
Anyway, guess I'll be off to the Note forums now.
Later guys, and thanks...
