[Q] if your rooted cab you tether more than 5gb? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can I root my note and tether more than 5gb? If so I'd wanna do a stock root.

If you have an unlimited plan you can Tether unlimited but only then. I believe there is even a way to do it without root not sure though

Yes i have unlimited but on the tethering app it tracks and only allows 5gb

Sure can, here's the guide bud.

Ok Thanks but I'd rather a recommended rom w that feature. I'm honestly not paying for an app If I don't have to.

If you don't want to pay for an app, then at least give the devs enough respect to look through the ROMs currently available to find one that works for you. There are several in the forum that have the feature you want already baked in.

Consider editing your thread to "[Q] If you're rooted, can you tether more than 5GB?".
I don't mean to sound mean, but when you don't pay attention to what you write, you end up confusing people.

Wireless tether is basically stealing. Full props to verizon for finally blocking it. And gnesoid was taken down by he developer it is not being blocked by verizon.

Explain this to me. How is this stealing?
Is using Google Navigator stealing because VZW has VZ Navigator which they charge a monthly fee to use?
We pay $30+ for our data package, we shouldn't have to pay additional fees to use that same data.

Sigh. They [verizon] never blocked it, the developer pulled it on request of sega. Verizon might piss you off at times, but they don't care about a video game emulator to a 20+ year old system, lol. However...the former console company that hasn't really done much since they retired the said system might want to complain...
So why was Gensoid taken down? According to the developer, it was at the request of Sega. They must have contacted Google and gotten the emulator taken off the market. What exactly Sega claimed in order to take it down isn't know as Google usually isn't forthcoming with details, just general overviews, when asked. The next question is, why now?

It's also obvious if you search the market on your computer (not your phone). Wireless tether is still there if you use a browser, gensoid is not.

Stealing
Charging customer more money to tether to another device is stealing. Way I look at it, we already pay for 5gb of data (some unlimited). Wireless carriers should let us tether to any device we want to our data limit. I pay for my data plan and should be able to use any way I want to up to the carriers limit.
Barnacle Wifi Tether is still in there at least, i always liked that better anyways.
Just put your phone in airplane mode and turn wifi on and go to the market you will then be able to see all tether apps.

+ 1 I am suffering the same situation. I rooted my phone but can't find what app I can install and use so att doesn't make any more treats of changing my plan. Any suggestions?
Doesn't work don't wast your time and effort, there is no way around rooting your phone to get free tethering.
What about using PDAnet and uninstalling Carrier IQ (CIQ)? Anyone have some solid information on that?

UK Barclays and Root

Does anyone in the UK use any temp unroot app, so they can use Barclays app's.
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It doesn't work.
Try the root cloak module in xposed, but Barclays looks for root in system so it cant be hidden
Just type Barclay's Mobile Banking Root Fix on XDA, that thread will help you a bit, I think.

does that work?... They must be a new update since I last looked, but thanks,
hoping for a root cloak for sky go as well.....
EDIT
As I thought, that wont work...its been patched in a way that will be EXTREMELY difficult to fix

Its a potential security risk as root means you can see sensitive data within the app, or personal data
Its to protect the customer

That makes sense, seems a bit overkill but if it's for the customers benefit then it's all good. I'm with TSB sadly, but their app works on rooted handsets.
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
How often does the app check for root? What if the app was installed on stock and then you rooted? Could the app be modded from that point? Or a previous version be used instead?

Lol its about as safe as using a desktop. Root is like administration rights on Windows app. Besides all other banking apps don't have the same restrictions why only Barclay's?
There is no perfect justification for what they are doing.
Besides using Barclays on desktop regardless of platform is more dangerous that root on phone. On your phone atleast you know what app is doing what and you can stop it. On desktop you don't know what app you've installed and what's it doing.
yup owns Z1 and stuff.

[Q] App Data recovery w/o root?

One of my sons deleted the other's profile in the Magic Timer app (Oral B/Disney). Is there a way to recovery the data without root? I might even consider with root, but I'm a little nervous, being on Republic Wireless rooting my X2.
I'm really tempted to root my phone since it seems many of the recovery programs seen to require it, but I'm not sure if they'll actually do what I need to have done.

Sometimes the app keeps data of users on the own carpets the app creates when you install it. To access that carpets you need root.

I subscribed to the forum of Moto X 2014 and I can see all the topics as a list. But you need to see the post in a PC because you will need to download some files and flash it via fast boot.... Long story short, you can't root your phone via some app or something look me that.

Just use the phones native tethering.
It should be in your settings. No need to do anything else special.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
I have always used Foxfi to tether on custom roms on AT&T phones and have not been detected as long as I only tethered an android tablet. They could detect a Windows PC unless I used a VPN.
I cannot use Foxfi on 5.1.1 roms on the N910T since it gets an error. I can run native tethering and it works fine, but have only done it a little bit since I am kind of wary about being detected - I have already been warned twice already a couple years ago. I, too, wanted to make sure it was undetectable by AT&T if I used the native tethering instead of Foxfi with its proxy.
I unlock my Samsung Note 4 T-Mobile with sim-unlock code, but I've heard that I cannot use this phone with internet 3G, 4G or LTE i'm outside US. And also I need another code to unlock this feature. I cannot check if I can use 3G Internet or not. Somebody knows that for sure?
