One of my sons deleted the other's profile in the Magic Timer app (Oral B/Disney). Is there a way to recovery the data without root? I might even consider with root, but I'm a little nervous, being on Republic Wireless rooting my X2.
I'm really tempted to root my phone since it seems many of the recovery programs seen to require it, but I'm not sure if they'll actually do what I need to have done.

Sometimes the app keeps data of users on the own carpets the app creates when you install it. To access that carpets you need root.

I subscribed to the forum of Moto X 2014 and I can see all the topics as a list. But you need to see the post in a PC because you will need to download some files and flash it via fast boot.... Long story short, you can't root your phone via some app or something look me that.

I'm still rooted with kingo. Until they find something definitively wrong with it I don't feel like going through the hassle of wiping my phone and starting from scratch.
I had already rooted using it. As soon as they come out with an actual reason to not use it I'll unroot immediately. Until then I'm fine with a working root .

nope not after what happened with me
i think there is something up with kingo. i had some weird issues with it when i tried it. for one i couldnt get the custom icon off the screen no matter what i did with kingo root. kingo root kept stuff running in the back ground which i didnt like at all. all my firewall and antivirus software went crazy and flagged, blocked, and deleted it right away. i went back to the first root method with root de la vega and after the first try my custom icon is gone and nothing is flagged or suspicious
I'm still using it. It's working perfectly and flawlessly for me. Until I see hard evidence I don't see a point in switching especially since I do not want to wipe. If I get bored and decide to re flash for the hell of it I'll use de la Vega obviously but as of now I'm content.

I am still using it, as soon as the Kingo thread got locked I contacted Kingo on their website and emailed back and forth a few times about security and XDA concerns. I was more than satisfied with their openness and response. BTW this thread will probably be locked since there have been about 10 Kingo threads in the past few days.

You honestly think that if they are up to something like planning some crazy malware attack that they would just up and tell you and not lie about it and be super friendly? That said. I'm still rooted with it. I won't recommend anyone to use it until everything Is situated though just to possibly save someone in the future.

Kingo devs immediately contacted XDA admins and are already working on a new version of the app that conforms to XDA standards (see the last modpost here). They also responded immediately to my concerns with exactly what information was collected and what it was used for. In my opinion, they are not "planning some crazy malware attack". I mean there is always a chance, but there is a chance in anything custom you do to your phone, you just have to gather all the information and weigh your options. Then make your own decision on it.

You misunderstand the purpose of asking them for an explanation. It was not done in the expectation of a confession if the software had indeed been malicious. Rather, it was done to find out if a plausible, benign reason for the IMEI behavior exists. And their reply does offer such a reason. In fact, it's difficult to think of a plausible HARMFUL use of the IMEI.

Understood and agreed. I'm just going by the thoughts of how evil everyone thinks they are. Yes it's shady they were collecting data but oh well. And like you said, what could they possibly do with that data anyway.

I was using it for a quick minute but have since moved on..
I'm still using it and it appears to be running great. I've not received any hard evidence that it is anything but good rooting software.
Dose the kingo install any apps on the phone beside the su and the supersu?
If it collect the IMEI what is the point from formatting/unrooting or flashing the phone? It already done!!

Try the root cloak module in xposed, but Barclays looks for root in system so it cant be hidden

Its a potential security risk as root means you can see sensitive data within the app, or personal data
Its to protect the customer

That makes sense, seems a bit overkill but if it's for the customers benefit then it's all good. I'm with TSB sadly, but their app works on rooted handsets.

How often does the app check for root? What if the app was installed on stock and then you rooted? Could the app be modded from that point? Or a previous version be used instead?

Lol its about as safe as using a desktop. Root is like administration rights on Windows app. Besides all other banking apps don't have the same restrictions why only Barclay's?
There is no perfect justification for what they are doing.
Besides using Barclays on desktop regardless of platform is more dangerous that root on phone. On your phone atleast you know what app is doing what and you can stop it. On desktop you don't know what app you've installed and what's it doing.
yup owns Z1 and stuff.
Can I root my note and tether more than 5gb? If so I'd wanna do a stock root.
If you have an unlimited plan you can Tether unlimited but only then. I believe there is even a way to do it without root not sure though

If you don't want to pay for an app, then at least give the devs enough respect to look through the ROMs currently available to find one that works for you. There are several in the forum that have the feature you want already baked in.

Nothing posted in the DEV section yet because we don't have root, and as far as I know there hasn't been a VZW Dev edition released yet (and I'm doubting there will be with the production issues they've had getting the regular GS6E's out).
Trust me, we all (or mostly all?) want root, but we have to be patient - i'd be blown away if we got a root solution before the Note 4.
What I thought of course. But there should at least be a post or two saying: hey, I'm so and so dev. Im working on root. Will post back in a few days when completed. Lol
When you root your device, the integrity gets breached, which is necessary for important and sensitive features like mobile payments. :good:

Well if those so called "caring" companies would give us customers a little bit more control of our phones to get rid of some of their crapware, etc., then I would be all for it but they keep the lock on too tight as far as I'm concerned.

I came off a RAZR HD MAXX, and have always had Moto phones (this is my first non-moto phone), but I read in at least 2 places that root cannot be had on this phone because verizon and AT&T have locked bootloaders. Now, Im not sure what the boot loader has to do with getting root, because with my Motos I always rooted before unlocking the BL (on the phones I had that UL the BL was an option), but it just doesnt sound right.
I dont think I want to use custom ROMs any longer, I just want to use root apps. Really hoping someone finds an exploit for it.

I believe it is for all kernels up to May 2015.
It has been tested on the S6, and should work for any phone with a vulnerable kernel.
It should result in a root tool similar to towelroot.

It can't be done automatically. The quickest way I've found is to use the two-finger swipe from the top to get to the quick settings menu then hit the cell signal icon. If anyone finds a way to do it automatically, please don't hesitate to say something! I get horrible reception at work so I now have to manually tell it to turn off mobile data every day. Kinda sucks.
Drew, I'm In the same position. Weak 4g signal that's why I have always used Tasker, paid version, to control it.
