I'm still rooted with kingo. Until they find something definitively wrong with it I don't feel like going through the hassle of wiping my phone and starting from scratch.
I had already rooted using it. As soon as they come out with an actual reason to not use it I'll unroot immediately. Until then I'm fine with a working root .

nope not after what happened with me
i think there is something up with kingo. i had some weird issues with it when i tried it. for one i couldnt get the custom icon off the screen no matter what i did with kingo root. kingo root kept stuff running in the back ground which i didnt like at all. all my firewall and antivirus software went crazy and flagged, blocked, and deleted it right away. i went back to the first root method with root de la vega and after the first try my custom icon is gone and nothing is flagged or suspicious
I'm still using it. It's working perfectly and flawlessly for me. Until I see hard evidence I don't see a point in switching especially since I do not want to wipe. If I get bored and decide to re flash for the hell of it I'll use de la Vega obviously but as of now I'm content.

I am still using it, as soon as the Kingo thread got locked I contacted Kingo on their website and emailed back and forth a few times about security and XDA concerns. I was more than satisfied with their openness and response. BTW this thread will probably be locked since there have been about 10 Kingo threads in the past few days.

You honestly think that if they are up to something like planning some crazy malware attack that they would just up and tell you and not lie about it and be super friendly? That said. I'm still rooted with it. I won't recommend anyone to use it until everything Is situated though just to possibly save someone in the future.

Kingo devs immediately contacted XDA admins and are already working on a new version of the app that conforms to XDA standards (see the last modpost here). They also responded immediately to my concerns with exactly what information was collected and what it was used for. In my opinion, they are not "planning some crazy malware attack". I mean there is always a chance, but there is a chance in anything custom you do to your phone, you just have to gather all the information and weigh your options. Then make your own decision on it.

You misunderstand the purpose of asking them for an explanation. It was not done in the expectation of a confession if the software had indeed been malicious. Rather, it was done to find out if a plausible, benign reason for the IMEI behavior exists. And their reply does offer such a reason. In fact, it's difficult to think of a plausible HARMFUL use of the IMEI.

Understood and agreed. I'm just going by the thoughts of how evil everyone thinks they are. Yes it's shady they were collecting data but oh well. And like you said, what could they possibly do with that data anyway.

same here, sticking with it, and used their app to root my LG G Pad 8.3 (literally just released) and it's running great.
I was using it for a quick minute but have since moved on..
I'm still using it and it appears to be running great. I've not received any hard evidence that it is anything but good rooting software.
Dose the kingo install any apps on the phone beside the su and the supersu?
If it collect the IMEI what is the point from formatting/unrooting or flashing the phone? It already done!!

trust me i didnt do anything, is there a way to check to see how it was rooted?
I could maybe possibly see a spontaneous bug rooting your phone, but it could not have possibly been a bug that installed superuser and the terminal emulator. Possibilities I can see:
1. You used to have a rooted phone and synced the backup with your bionic, thus reinstalling superuser.
2. someone else rooted it for you without telling you
3. You bought the phone used and it was already rooted

Here it is enjoy. Also you need to reboot and turn it on and off a few times as described in the guide.
Also may need to change the starting ip. I had to do that on a few of them. But I can confirm it does work.

I have a feeling you downloaded an app or a 3rd party app. A while vback there was a scare where an app actually rooted your phone without you knowing. Its far fetch but not impossible. Seen it happened before.
That's why its so important to check permissions on all apps and especially funky dev names.

Here you may ask all of your questions concerning designgears' Root process, provided it wasn't addressed in his second post in the main thread.
I'll start with a bit of help for the most common issue I've seen.
Titanium Backup users: DO NOT restore data and DO NOT batch restore. If you do, expect problems and assume that you caused them. Nobody else is responsible for fixing errors you knowingly created. I restored only my necessary apps from my Note 1 without data and didn't even need the TB Fixer.
DG is making great strides for us. Let's not piss him off, mkay? Search. If you can't find answers, your questions go in Q&A.
Thanks!
Edit: Just to clarify, I have absolutely nothing to do with Root de la Vega. I am just a power user who would like to see the development thread remain clean and relevant. All props go to chainfire and designgears. It just gets difficult to sift through the nonsense sometimes.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I've never rooted a phone before, but I'm tech savvy and know my way around most things technological. Two questions:
Is there a set of general (not specific to DG'S method) concepts I should be familiar with before attempting this, and, if so, can you link me to any kind of "quick start" where the necessary information has been assembled?
Once rooted, is there a (hopefully somewhat straightforward) way to get back to factory-condition setup from this particular root such that AT&T can't tell any changes had been made? (This may be a stupid question, I know, but we've all got to start somewhere and I suspect fretting about this keeps a lot of us from taking the leap.)
Thanks for making this thread, btw.

And thanks for following along. Being a Samsung device, you should familiarize yourself with ODIN One-Click and ODIN3, though the instructions are pretty straight forward. He also posted a One-Click to get back to stock and a method for unbricking should it occur. Just stick to the OP and you should be great. I'm ROOTING for you.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The way I learned was watching Connexion2005's youtube tutorials for the Captivate. From there, you learn the rest by reading the development and Q&A threads and largely by screwing up and recovering. Samsung is good for a first phone. Odin can save you from most situations. It's actually quite hard to fully brick one.

I have no experience with Helium, but Titanium CAN be used. I just wouldn't restore app data or system data. Bad idea, coming from a different base. I'm guessing the same would be true for Helium.

I exchanged my N3 for another one today b/c of poor reception (new one is great) and I rooted today. I would highly recommend trying to avoid TiBu, but I actually had better luck, at least with games, redownloading from the Play Store, then restoring data from TiBu. It worked for Cut the Rope, Monopoly, Uno, and Jet Car Stunts. However, most of my other programs I just needed to re-add login info.
Just a note, I was confused at first about which files to put on the phone, but after you unzip it the first time, you'll need to unzip the smaller of the zip files and that will contain the folder and .sh file you need to put on the phone.

Ok. I don't use TitBU but thanks for the advice. Ad removal programs and xposed framework is mostly what I want root for. Can't wait for a custom bootloader and kernel. I wonder how far this bad boy will be able to overclock. I imagine the 800 is capable of 2.6 easy maybe even 2.8 for short bursts. I guess for now I'll try and enjoy stock for a while until all the dust settles and things get in order, or until a mod comes out that tempts me into rooting.

Hey I know it's really not my place to say this as I had nothing to do with this thread or DG's thread (I'm a big supporter of devs in general and XDA), but in addition to the OP, when you ask a question about something that's wrong, don't title it "Root de la Vega broke something" like that guy did in the Q&A. So disrespectful to somebody that probably worked all his waking hours over the weekend on this. That guy that did post it, turns out he skipped a step in the rooting process and that's why his WiFi didn't work.

Internal Storage Space?
I'm aware of external storage (ie, as SD card). There's the 32 gigs of internal storage. There's also 3 gigs of ram.
I thought that programs went to this 3 gig area & shared it with the running operating system.
..so why when I install a program am I getting a toast saying I have "1.7 MB of Internal Storage" ? For the fun, I installed a couple large programs and got it to go down to "1.12" Internal...?
Is there another limit somewhere I'm not aware of?
Edit - I need to re-install something, I forget if it was "Internal" or "External", but either way the 1.12 MB is confusing.

I was just curious if anyone out there has Rooted their T-mo or Other carrier G Flex. I love aspects of Rooted devices (Vibrant, Sensation, Galaxy 2,3 various other devices) however I have found that with a lot of the newer devices that are coming out, I haven't really felt the need to root. Are there any real advantages to rooting my G Flex, or if Im happy with it should I just leave it be?
More specifically however, has anyone used the VROOT method?

Not yet, I guess given that the phone was just recently released I want to wait until there is (or isn't) significant developer support for this phone. If not, then I won't do any modifications with it and dump it in 6 months and use a JUMP from Tmo.
Since I rooted, is my Jump nullified meaning I can't use it now?
Sent from my LG-D959 using Tapatalk
Tmobile does NOT care if your phone is rooted when you go to use a Jump..
I have the T-Mobile flex and i rooted with ioroot. So that i can use xposed +gravity for pie and expanded

I'll probably root once there is a working TWRP recovery..until then, I can wait, cause this phone is so sweet is so many ways right out of the box..
I have Tmobile flex. I rooted to get rid of bloat and so I can use titanium backups. I have to say, there are some similarities between LG UI and touchwiz but I think LG has this a little better organized. Haven't played with exposed on here yet but I will.

I haven't rooted yet; just got this thing on Thursday, and want to make sure I am keeping it before I do.
Plus, I might wait a bit and see if by some miracle, kitkat gets pushed out for this guy, in the next week or 2,and I dont want to have to unroot it, in order to get that.
I know the chances aren't good for that, but, I like to learn about a new phone for a week or 2, then decide what I want to do with it, so I am not in a big hurry to root; there is no custom recovery yet, and of course, no roms, so I can be patient.
Thanks everyone for the insight, seeing as this thread has brought more to the table than just tmo answers and users I'll leave it be. I have, with some regret, opted to swap my phone for a Note 3. I had an issue where I would get temporary screen burns (lasting no more than a few seconds). Seeing as these are high end devices, I expected better from lg. The screen burn a side, the flex really is a great phone.

Sorry, I thought that was the fix! ...but I saw now it was dropped...all 3 methods are broken..
I'd be very interested to know why they don't allow root users use of the app. Anyone any ideas?

Its a potential security risk as root means you can see sensitive data within the app, or personal data
Its to protect the customer

That makes sense, seems a bit overkill but if it's for the customers benefit then it's all good. I'm with TSB sadly, but their app works on rooted handsets.

How often does the app check for root? What if the app was installed on stock and then you rooted? Could the app be modded from that point? Or a previous version be used instead?

Lol its about as safe as using a desktop. Root is like administration rights on Windows app. Besides all other banking apps don't have the same restrictions why only Barclay's?
There is no perfect justification for what they are doing.
Besides using Barclays on desktop regardless of platform is more dangerous that root on phone. On your phone atleast you know what app is doing what and you can stop it. On desktop you don't know what app you've installed and what's it doing.
yup owns Z1 and stuff.
