Question for all rom cookers - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im trying to fix my phone out of a what it looks like a write protected or freezed state, you can watch more here http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/help/phone-write-protected-freezed-t3030812 , and wonder if its posible to modify an original rom such as Blur_Version.21.11.17.titan_retuaws.retuaws.en.US to just look for watever i had instaled on my phone and ignore it and keep on going with the installation instead of aborting it?
Because most roms i try to install via original recovery via sideload , the either give me the fingerprint error expecting the phone to have another system installed, or they just simply abort the instalation.
This is for a xt1063.
And by modify an original i mean to modify it and repack it again to be able to use it on the original recovery, not on twrp or philz or fastboot, as i have tried that several times.
Thanks for your time and posible help

I dont know if a OTA.zip can be modified but, say it can and we get it to attempt to flash- 1) have you any idea what is wrong / corrupt in 1st place and if like you/me/others believe its corrupted / write protected as a OTA zip flashes along same way as ADB and TWRP - it will most likely fail
Also you misunderstand that a OTA.zip is only a update and not full firmware..... it merges with older firmware - it does not replace / wipe it just updates apps / files to newer versions .
So you need to do a full firmware flash with wipe but you say this fails??
if you tell me what firmware you have on or want to go back - i will try to download and make a easy installer for you.
but i'm thinking corrupt partition needed linux to fix / wip or format

thanks for your reply, then will close this and continue with help on my other topic, thanks again.

[Q] Couldnt Update to Lollipop, LF USA XT1063 Mirror

First of all I just bought Global Moto G 2014 (XT1063) from US Amazon and that was KXH21.85-23 (not updatable to Lollipop via shared OTA.)
So I did manage to unlocked the bootloader and flashed KXH21.85-17 and tried to flash the "Blur_Version.21.11.17.titan_retuglb.retuglb.en.US" which supposed to flash the Lollipop.
Unfortunately at first it failed to update me because "Printspooler.apk" mismatch the hash check. After attempt to flash (yes, I ignore the abort message and redo the process, It passed.... I don't know why) and stuck at some "xxx.apk" mismatch the hash again. After redo the process and bypass (for unknown reason that redo bypass the mismatch) I stuck at "velvet.apk" mismatch and this time It won't let me bypass and keep going on update to lollipop.
In my theory, Is it possible that I flash KXH21.85-17 from other country? Yes, any XT1063 (latin american, whereever on earth) supposed to flashable, but maybe the different country has slightly different apk. So that's why I failed the hash check.
Can anyone give me a URL or mirror to USA XT1063 for KXH21.85-17 that confirmed updatable to Lollipop? Since SBF-Dev and MotoFirmware is now down I couldn't find any.
I know what I'm saying is sound ridiculous, but I have no other theory that support my conspiracy anymore.
Hi @bankkung, I was facing similar problems. First you'd want to get back to stock kitkat which is up-gradable to Lollipop, so I would suggest downloading this file, http://180upload.com/bzl3ah1wov5g, which is 21.85-17, you can flash this file with fastboot by following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/index-guide-update-to-lollipop-android-t2941340. Next you'd want to download both Lollipop files, the first and second one. (The second one is the newest update that fixes memory management). First file: https://mega.co.nz/#!UoQ02KLQ!22OUNBctGLoAUOMd_frTRT9jgbB3tRPUa4pPqfesGho.. Second file: https://mega.co.nz/#!s8ZSVJDA!SqUWPZODvM4-GYuXo6MC2JWTmpE9_jdyqlH-ycWi78I. Download both of those files and put them somewhere accessible (like your SD card) so you can flash these in stock recovery, so after you downgrade to kitkat you can flash the first one, then boot up and then go back into stock recovery and flash the second file. I'd recommend factory resetting your phone after this to smoothen everything out.
If all else fails you can flash TWRP recovery using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/recovery-twrp-2-8-0-1-moto-g-2014-t2896165, and then download this TWRP backup of the latest Lollipop, and place it in /data/media/0/TWRP/backups/(your device name here). All of that can be done right in TWRP recovery using the file manager (no need to root your phone). https://mega.co.nz/#!59AAiQaR!cPUsNpI5j-ZaIMX10uiS93EJqpLxua-iwKHj30InX1U
I would really recommend the first option tho, just in case any other updates come you can easily upgrade your phone.
Hope I helped!

I'm thinking about getting some Nandroid backup (never used TWRP before but I think this methond you gave is the same thing as I think) to get straight from Custom Recovery to Lollipop.
So what I need to do in the 2nd method is
a
flash TWRP
Place TWRP Backup of XT1063 Lollipop
restore
reflash Stock Recovery + Locked recovery
Is this sound corrected?

Yes once you place the backup on your SD card, flash TWRP, reboot into recovery and go to advanced then go to file manager, then finish following the instructions above. Once you place it in the right place then you restore it. As of the stock recovery issue, it wouldn't make much sense to do that unless you followed the first option, where the stock recovery would actually be needed. But if you find a recovery image then yeah. If you do the second method you won't be able to receive updates nor update it manually unless doing the first method.. But the TWRP backup is the latest lollipop so enjoy!
If you still need help you can just flash TWRP recovery, and download this and flash it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...-stock-rom-t2970427/post57438355#post57438355

thats correct these are via ADB mfastboot (which ignores OTA fingerprint check) as flashes full firmware, not the ota.zip which is only a smaller (not full firmware) update
ota.zip is NOT full firmware, so will not fix a corrupted / altered or non stock firmware
but you say you've flashed many roms.... you need to be on correct rom and matching recovery and also un-rooted to flash a OTA.zip as it checks Recovery version and the build fingerprint inside /system folder of original stock rom. if any of these mismatch it will fail.
also (apologies if wrong) but dont you believe your phone to be corrupted or read only hence why you cant flash images?

Phone wont boot, its gets to the point where a blue m apears the goes to a blank screen, when flahing a rom via fasboot, all seems to get right but after restart is like nothing happened, i go back to the same state, same thing happens with twrp or philz, if you want to help, we can continue here but your more then wellcome to read this (nevermind i see you allready did)
So let me make a backup of twrp and see if i can post results, thanks allot, iveen waiting to fix this for so many days now.
A bit of background, i consider myself an advance user, someone that can google problems and fix stuff with it, ivee flashed alot of cellphones in the past ,many xt1064 and other models, just like everybody ealse, easy and no problems, but this one i just cant figure out. Seems like its on read only mode or freezed as a deepfreezed computer, dont mater how many roms i flash and the way i do, everything comes back to the same state, even if i reforma partitions, eeven if i delete pictures or folders, they come back once i reboot.
Its going to take 5hrs to upload my backup

ok ii'm thinking corrupted partitions too.... but if you are willing to try i've made a xt1063 easy installer script for you to try now normally i work on xt1068 and would test on my xt1068 - so have NO xt1063 its UNTESTED - use at own risk.....
just stock firmware / drivers / adb and mfastboot ( same as my xt1068 script) I see no reason it should not be compatible.
download to pc / unzip to folder / read instruction inside
https://mega.co.nz/#!Tok2DJ6T!ggMoQDfAzuA7cmQQjbGCbXolWZTnx_567vG02CiURVsxt1063 4.4.4 easy installer
I repeat it YOUR choice - if it works- great - if runs ok but rom remains same would suggest somethings corrupt - if it doesnt work at all back to square 1....
now im presuming your boot loader is unlocked, as will fail if locked or relocked - if you use and get error please report what they are, i would have done 5.0.2 but its only 50% downloaded with a 1 hr+ to still go, estimate 2 hrs from time of this post until I can post a link
im uploading the backup, in the mean time i dont know if this is of any use ,its the recovery log zipped...

just to let you know TWRP is now 2.5.8.0 fixes some bugs cause older versions know to break permissions in Lollipop!!
https://mega.co.nz/#!Dx03wTbD!3sDFubGomhegQqdoGzNb1RWnQwApzyaTlVq69uX1TqkFlash-able version (unzip to pc and flash from there) 2.5.8.0

will look but cant promise
I tried your easy install tool, brand new drivers, diferent usb port, all went smooth but after restart, im at the same situation. Funny thing, and ivee done this multiple times, after reflashing a new rom, most of them never give errors, then after nothing happens , i flash twrp and boot it, and all the files (the original ones , not the just flashed ones) are there intact, even pictures and music.

ok have you tried mfastboot erase userdata and mfastboot erase cache? from a command window?
i.m interested in the I flash twrp and boot..... does this mean you are able to replace recovery with a custom recovery ON phone
rather than temporary booting into it?

Yeah i tried those erase commands many many times and same result, i cant replace recovery at all, only boot of it, so when i do " mfastbooot flash recovery twrprecovery.img " then try to boot of recovery, i boot into factory recovery not, twrp, but if i do, "mfasboot boot twrprecovery.img" i can see the recovery img gets flashed and the phone boots of twrp. Weird behavior. So when i notice that i tried to flash a rom with mfastboot, and at the end i gave the command mfasboot boot recovery.img (the original rom recovery) then it gets flashed, and phone reboots, but i gets stuck at the motorola logo. This phone its playing hard to get....
heres, my backup https://mega.co.nz/#!md0AwbLR!uWe9PLklIugOziPLV6O_plbU-Zz9EXbqRvUVpYxECk0 hope you can find something.
Im going to take this phone to a shop to see if they can fix it as i have lost all hope, thanks refuuge for your help.

So you're typing a little erratic.
Can you get to eRecovery? This is your best option..
If not then you'll need to reflash all the parts of the OS back to the phone manually..
Beyond that you'll need a recovery method, not sure if it's a device of a program but it can usually help, depends on what is borked.

I get into Erecovery if i press download latest version and recovery after some times when i put the wifi pass says error. Error i got also on HIsUite when i tried to format from there and download the latest versio. So we go manually but HOW? i tried almost everything
i tried this https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p20/how-to/how-to-how-to-unbrick-clt-l29c432-t3878714
success all command went trhough the phone
the problem is i cannot flash twrp
my phone has unlocked bl
well i did a lot of search if you ask me i download 5-7 different programs that can flash stock firmware. ONE seems to be legit for 9.0 RE-flash 9.0 which has commands on its script like this guy says and he helped me too
https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p20/how-to/how-to-how-to-unbrick-clt-l29c432-t3878714
also if someone cant boot into twrp after the frist steps and see the erecovery just format everything from erecovery and then it will boot to twrp.
also now says installing update.
i hope imeis serial numbers etc wont lost..
Thats the script i found i dont remeber where
http://prntscr.com/mitvum
but i can upload somewhere the files
if you run FLASH.bat and says MISSING ZIPS then remove the update."zip" {ZIP PREFIX FROM THE NAME OF THE FILES ONLY} and run again the bat
the procedure may take 10-30 mins
What about the otg method?
Also I would never use a tool like this.

[GUIDE] Back to stock ROM howto / Downgrade howto

There maybe a number of reasons to go back to the stock ROM. We do not discuss them here
But what to do if you flashed something, wanting to go back to stock, and did not brick your Realme X2 yet? Here is super quick howto guide. There are other possible ways and sequences to perform the task, but the one listed below is tested.
The same procedure applys for a case when you want to downgrade you phone (when its bootloader unlocked). Say, current custom ROMs are based on ColorOS 6.1/Android 9 vendor contents but you have realmeUI/Android 10 already. In order to try one of those custom ROMs you should downgrade to the latest Android 9 stock firmware first.
The essential part of the customized phone is custom recovery. Currently Realme OZIP file does not contain stock recovery inside. It is being generated as explained below, in the post #2, see EDIT3. It means you need to find somewere PROPER stock recovery corresponding to your ROM to put it back. See Realme X2 stock recovery links below, post #2, EDIT4.
Which stock recovery to use? The one for your model and which version is not newer than the ROM version you are flashing. For example, you need A.17 stock ROM for CN model (RMX1991). Then any recovery of A.12, A.14, A.16, A.17 for RMX1991 will work for you.
Download and unzip the stock recovery partition image from the next post, this will be a file like rmx1991-sde20-stock_recovery.img.
Download stock ROM ozip file (for example, from here). Put it to a SD card with a filesystem which supports files more than 2GB (ext4 works fine. Stock recovery, but not ColorOS, supports it). Put the SD card into the phone.
Start (reboot) phone into fastboot mode
From a computer perform fastboot flash recovery rmx1991-sde20-stock_recovery.img
From the fastboot mode by means of volume buttons select 'Recovery mode' and push Power button
From the stock recovery select language needed (there are three only), then 'Install from storage device', then 'From SD card', tap the OZIP file with your ROM
When the update process is done, phone reboots. Most likely, it will not be able to boot normally because you need to wipe out data. Either help the phone with keeping Vol Down button pressed during reboot, or it will boot recovery by itself. Now wipe data (confirm by entering random 4-digit code), select 'Format data'. Phone will reboot
Here it is. Enjoy (or sell your Realme X2 with its shiny stock experience...
If you want to lock bootloader after all above mentioned steps (you have to make them all unless you wanna get a brick ), boot fastboot mode, perform fastboot flashing lock. This will wipe your data again. Then optionally lock 'OEM Unlock' option in 'Developer Options'. Even further, you can install In-DepthTest.apk and sign out from In-Depth Test program.
2022-12-25 EDIT: For downgrade from Android 11 to 10 read this post
I have found out that in fact stock recovery does not exist as a prebuilt file It is being created by the script /system/bin/install-recovery.sh on a basis of stock boot partition and a patch file /system/recovery-from-boot.p
It means in theory you can recreate stock recovery having only Realme ozip file.
EDIT1 The command to do it in Linux shell is
Code:
bspatch boot.img selfmade_stock_recovery.img recovery-from-boot.p
Cool! Tested.
EDIT2. For the current moment when unlocked bootloader breaks fingerprint sensor: as soon as the bootloader is locked again, fingerprint starts functioning as it should.
EDIT3 Becomes clear that each ROM release has its own stock recovery which is generated automatically on the basis of boot.img and recovery-from-boot.p . Not only boot.img is being changed each release, but recovery-from-boot.p is changing as well. If the wrong stock recovery is installed, you might not be able to decrypt data and connect to WiFi from within recovery. Seemingly it may bring you serious problems if locking back bootloader (thus bricking the device). Good thing (as I understood, but not checked yet) is that after flashing stock ROM with a help of a stock recovery next reboot should replace your stock recovery with an up-to-date version of it. So to be on a safe side make sure that you rebooted to system and that your recovery reflashed by the system before you lock bootloader.
EDIT4 In order to combine everything in one place:
Stock recoveries for RMX1991 (China version): here
Stock recoveries for RMX1992 (India version): here
Stock recoveries for RMX1993 (Euro version): here
EDIT5 In later ROM releases patch and script files are relocated into vendor partition, they are /bin/oppo-install-recovery.sh and /recovery-from-boot.p there.
EDIT6 Please note that the method above is working with officially downloaded ROMs from realme support site (read here why).
So this method works if you brick your phone trying to install a global rom to china variant..
Hi,
does only works with SDcard insert.
Because the internal storage is decrypted.
And it does not work on X2.
But why?
Installation failed?
This method will bring back my FP working again right?
Can you please confirm this method https://boycracked.com/2019/10/26/official-realme-x2-rmx1991-stock-rom/

The site provides generalized instructions for everything
As for Realme X2, there are two methods claimed, one is for ozip file, another for ofp file; last one is not yet publicly available somewhere (the link is replaced by the Coming soon promise).
If you find there something certain regarding ozip procedure for Realme X2, give me the link, please. I couldn't

Read the post #2 in this thread, it contains ample info needed for this. If you are requesting ready-to-flash stock recovery file, you should tell the version of the ROM you are going to flash and powerful word please to it

I am not 100% sure I understand you right. If you are about some stock apps missing after wiping the userdata partition, this is true: some of the apps were preinstalled onto data space (some of them are Weather app, One-Tap Lockscreen). I could find only some of them in a form of apk files.

Thanks a lot for the attention. I tryed to recreate the recovery but with no success because i dont know the proper method, it's a bit over my android skills as i can only root unlock bl and do some minor stuff and GSI is a new thing for me. AS for the version it is the a17 of the 1993ex(eu).

For the moment I have one for the EU A.16 version only, look here. Eventually A.17 will be added there too.

How to reset firmware

so i've tried a few roms, and couldn't get gpay working. im going to try a few things mentioned in other threads, but before i start that. i want to properly/fully reset my phone to the stock, to hopefully make sure i don't mess anything up in the future.
my first issue was installing twrp, i tried to `fastboot flash` the recovery, but nothing worked until i followed these steps: https://www.getdroidtips.com/download-and-install-twrp-recovery-for-redmi-k20-pro-latest/
im worried about what might be in the misc.bin in that zip. cuz i couldn't reboot into twrp recovery until i flashed that. does anyone know what that is? i think i just want to flash/reset? everything on my phone back to miui, make sure i update to the latest firmware etc. but, tbh, i find navigating xda difficult and can't seem to find the official firmware anywhere, or steps on how to reset the phone...
thanks for any help
Um, i think ur in the wrong category

The misc.bin file is basically just a script that tells the Device to directly boot into TWRP, because Xiaomi Devices / MIUI are configured to overwrite TWRP after a reboot. If you still feel uncomfortable having to flash the misc file, try "fastboot *BOOT* TWRP.img" instead of "fastboot *FLASH* TWRP.img".
If you wish to keep MIUI installed instead of an Custom ROM make sure to flash Magisk, as it patches the DM-Verity stuff that causes the Device to either get stuck in a Bootloop or replace TWRP with the Stock Recovery.
If you're planning to run an Custom ROM like LineageOS, AOSiP etc. you don't have to flash Magisk as long as your Device isn't encrypted. Rebooting from TWRP to System without flashing Magisk on an encrypted Device will encrypt your Data Partition and you'll have to format Data to be able to access the Internal Storage again. (Flashing Magisk in that case will prevent your Device from encrypting all your Data again after an ROM Flash.)

k thanks for the info. what's the difference b/w the boot v flash for twrp?
is the misc.bin from that link i posted safe then? where did it come from? is there a thread here where files like that are posted/talked about?
i definitely plan to stick with either lineage or Pixel experience. i just want to get google pay going. so i think my next attempt will be to relflash magisk and look into that sql fix everyone mentions

If you're planning to go back to stock MIUI and locked bootloader, I highly recommend using Mi Flash and flashing the original fastboot MIUI ROM which can be found here https://www.xda-developers.com/download-miui-11-xiaomi-redmi-note-7-pro-poco-f1/amp/. All you gotta to do is extract the ROM file which is .tgz to any folder, and in Mi Flash select that folder click on "clean all and lock" in the bottom right corner, and click flash. This should theoretically make your device "out of the box".
Keep in mind that this method requires a PC with all ADB and fastboot drivers, they can be downloaded from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979 .

BOOT will just let the Device temporarily boot into the Recovery (without making changes to the Recovery Partition) FLASH will write the Recovery Image to the Recovery Partition so you can boot to it whenever you want / need to.
I don't know if there's any kind of threads where certain files are talked about sorry, but I could be wrong though.
I don't know much about G Pay, I was gonna try it too but my Bank doesn't support it. I've seen quite a few people reporting success in getting it to work / making payments with it in local stores with the mentioned SQL Fix so if you're lucky it'll work for you too
